Who Is The Mastermind Behind The Easter Sunday Massacre?

By Latheef Farook

Latheef Farook

Who is the mastermind behind the Easter Sunday massacre? Why carnage was not prevented despite prior information?

The Horrifying / Inhuman April 21st attacks should not be seen merely attack on a specific religion at this time. Rather the attack is on the very heart of the county’s plural, multi-ethnic social fabric. There has been no history of violent animosity between Muslims and Christians. However, over a period of time both communities have been targeted by few radical Buddhists on multiple occasions. They were both victims of the violence but never responded. Had the bombers targeted state institutions, places of entertainment, Buddhist temples or even Hindu kovils, it would have made sense in terms of vengeance for a real or imagined wrong.

Sri Lanka’s Muslim community which suffered immense during the three decades of ethnic conflict and help save the unity of the country is deeply disturbed in view of the   involvement of an insignificant Muslim group in the devastating April 21 attacks.

The alleged involvement of National Thowheeth Jama’ath (NTJ) and the media coverage started causing serious concern among Muslims who were already under attack by racist mercenaries.  Without any provocations Muslims were attacked, looted and their properties including mosques were burnt causing billions of rupees of lost depriving their livelihood during attacks in Central hills in March 2018.

These attacks remain fresh in their minds though the perpetrators were yet to be tried and brought to book. One of leaders of this carnage was released when former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was sworn in as prime minister. This is the state of affairs in the country where Muslims feel ignored and discriminated by the pro-western Maithri-Ranil government.

There are clearly external interests working in collusion with local political actors in order to divide, distract, rule and advance external geo-strategic interests in this strategically located country at this time. External parties have geopolitical interests in Sri Lanka to divide, distract, loot and set up military bases in the island as there is a cold war and increasing militarization of the Indian Ocean.  RSS and BBS emerged in the post-war period, the former a Hindu organization and the latter a Buddhist outfit in the predominantly Tamil northeast and Sinhala Buddhist South, seemingly also targeting Muslims and Christians.

Meanwhile questions were also asked why the bombers who bombed leading the hotels starting from Cinnamon Grand to Kingsbury did not bomb the Indian owned Taj Samudra hotel. On the other hand how come the Indian media and even Indian politicians knew more about bombings than the local media and local authorities? Furthermore, the intelligence shared by Indian RAW with the Sri Lankan authorities about possible attacks almost two weeks before the incident / release of identities of the Suspects and their ideologies gives credence to the suspected role of Indians deep state . It is also noticeable that if the attackers successfully targeted renowned Catholic Churches why they did not attack Indian High Commission which was also target of the terrorists.

This reprehensible crime cannot be done by handful of undesirables from Dematagoda or Sarikamulla as it proved a very well coordinated sophisticated crime meticulously planned and executed within 20 minutes. The authorities have pinned the blame for the attack on an obscure group “National Thowheed Jamaath (NTJ). The group has multiple links to foreign countries. The links to foreign countries appears to hold the key to determining who is really behind the attacks. Therefore, due to NTJ’s foreign links, it is highly likely that a foreign entity, most likely a foreign state or state intelligence agency was behind the attacks and that the men on the ground who have been captured are merely pawns in a much larger and even more dangerous game.

Questions were also raised why the government failed to act promptly and to stop the attacks thus could have saved innocent lives. That is the first thing that any responsible government would do as innocent peoples’ lives were involved.

President Sirisena was to appoint a special investigating panel to ascertain information on this carnage while Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe   said investigations would be launched to ascertain why a prior warning about the attack had been ignored.

Shameful state of affairs was such that Minister Harin Fernando tweeted the image of an internal memo and report by the police intelligence of a terror attack to be carried out by so called NTJ.

“Some intelligence officers were aware of this incidence. Therefore there was a delay in action. What my father heard was also from an intelligence officer. Serious action need to be taken as to why this warning was ignored. I was in Badulla last night,” the minister tweeted.

The letter signed by the DIG, dated on April 11 was addressed to a number of key officials in the security services including the Directors of the Ministerial Security Division (MSD), Former Presidents’ Security Division and the Ambassadors Security Division.

The letter titled “Information of an alleged plan attack” said the state intelligence services had received information from a foreign intelligence service to the effect that National Thawheed Jamath Leader Mohammed Zahran was about to launch a suicide bomb attack in Sri Lanka targeting famous catholic churches and the Indian High Commission.

In the letter, the DIG requested the concerned authorities to pay attention to the information and to beef up the security provided to VIP personnel and to the locations.

Government spokesman Rajitha Senaratne told reporters that there had been “several warnings from foreign intelligence agencies about the impending attacks”.

Now the question is what the use of special investigation panel and investigations after the damage was done and innocent lives were lost.

Such a calamity was not something unexpected. About eight months ago in October last year I highlighted a potential threat to communal harmony   in an article. This is what I predicted;

“The island’s growing ties with Israel have become cause for serious concern among the discriminated Muslim community which always feared that this may spell disaster for communal harmony in view of Israel’s centuries old vicious hostility towards Islam and Muslims. This fear emanates from Israel’s long record of hostility towards Muslims and its crucial role in the United States led western global campaign demonising Islam and Muslims under the guise of fighting a war on terrorism. Today it is common knowledge that Israel and India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP’ / RSS, operate hand in glove against  Muslims in India and the region as well.

Knowledgeable people were aware that Israel was behind all attacks in Europe during the past three decades and the western media, part of US-European-Israeli war machine, put the blame on Muslims only to be proved months later that they were the work of Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad. In the same way RSS has been responsible for thousands of violent attacks on Muslims since Indian independent burning Muslim villages and cities, killing Muslims and raping Muslim women.

Israel and India fully backed by US and Europe has lot to benefit by destabilising the island which has established closer ties with china especially in the context of US –China rivalry in the Indian Ocean region. From the very first hour western media began their traditional role of accusing Muslims of committing this crime.

Muslim community of the Island has vehemently condemned this massacre and issued a statement signed by prominent Muslims. Following is the statement;

“We convey our deepest and heartfelt sympathies to the families of all the victims of the heinous terrorist act which took place on Easter Sunday. We also convey our utmost disgust, revulsion and sorrow at the unexpected and totally unnecessary and unacceptable loss of life and injury to our fellow Sri Lankans and visitors to Sri Lanka, several of who were engaged in prayer.

We are aghast and saddened by the fact these acts were carried out by an insignificant group of misguided Sri Lankan Muslims. The actions of these misguided   Muslims in no way represent or reflect the beliefs, concerns and expectations of the Sri Lankan Muslim community which has integrated well into Sri Lankan society over the centuries and contributed to our Motherland. We identify ourselves truly as Sri Lankans and are proud of our Sri Lankan identity.

This heinous incident is a challenge to all Sri Lankans who are dedicated to maintaining our pluralistic values and our common resolve to prevent any cycle of religious and ethnic violence. We Sri Lankan Muslims are equally obligated to infuse our whole community with the true Islamic values of peace and brotherhood. We reiterate our condemnation of this inhuman and despicable act of terror in the strongest possible terms.

We appeal to all our fellow Sri Lankans to act with restraint and desist from taking the law into their own hands. Let us stand united as otherwise we would be yielding to the terrorists. We also call upon all state agencies to effectively investigate these criminal acts and bring the offenders to justice swiftly and effectively”. Ha…ha…………ha…………ha… Latheef Farook You should have named your essay as Varadunu Kurumanama or Target missed. Now we all know ISIS in middle east loosing grounds. Nowhere to go. East Indies or Indonesia may be only hope. But need transits point. Lanken south east may be best transits point. In 1983 just after communal disturbances LTTE had very Isolated area for their activities. Almost like a separate state as almost all the Tamils lived in south went to Jaffna & Wanni region. Same way Muslims Diaspora want Isolated unit to house existing displaced ISIS carders & new recruitment base. If same kind of thing happen like 1983 ISIS Diaspora’s dream could have been fulfilled. As such we can expect more & more attacks on Buddhists & Hindu religion site in next few weeks. Almost all Muslims community live here may be plotters to have safe heaven for displaced carders in the middle east and have another try to create caliphate base on east Indies or Indonesia. All Muslims diaspora live in Lanka know it very well. but trying hard to divert attentions of authorities giving false calculations on attacks took place here in Lanka. This writer must be one of main culprit I suppose. .

Even after the 09/11 twin tower attacks some moslems were going around claiming it was carried out by the Israelis. In fact a majority of Moslems believe that is what happened. This is what is being trotted out in the mosques by Mullahs. To neutralise the enemy with sweet talk while plotting their destruction seems to be the strategy.

      I agree Dingiri.

The Muslims’ latest diversion tactics are as follows:

      1. Blame it only on ISIS.

      2. Instill a fear psychosis that American troops will land in SL any moment.

      3. Give Blood. Keep this in mind and think of Reggie Perera as the original author of this saying “Giving Blood is the last resort of the scoundrel”.

      4. Attend funerals and light candles and thereby wear a cloak of fake empathy.

      5. Write articles mildly condemning “a small minority of muslims”.

Don’t fall for any of these tactics. We are already dead at least stay smart until we are buried.

A simple question sir , who was behind the srilankan civil war and how many lives were lost ??
After every tactic used against the terrorists srilankan govt was hapless .
Who was funding / behind those Tamil Tigers , that massacred thousands of innocent people ?

Last but not the least , who came to your help and eliminate the decades old enemy of the state ?
The Tamil Tigers were ruling on your islands , your govt , armed forces and intelligence were completely destroyed by a terrorist group .
And what did you do , blame the Muslims for that ??
        Excellent , easy target .
Imagine , if the war continued , what would have been the situation in Sri Lanka .
If you were really in army , you should understand these facts better than most of the civilians .
But if you choose to be ignorent and trust media and don’t want to use your own brain then it indicates only one thing , …..
I feel sorry for you and like-minded people.

By the way I am from Europe and I am impartial .
But facts are facts , whether you believe or not.

Government is only arresting minor players, while doing nothing to major ones. These Islamic terrorists are supported by Muslim politicians, businessmen and professionals. Two notable politicians who should be taken into custody are Hisbullah and Rishard Badurdeen. The land in which bomb explosion was tested in Palamunai belongs to Hisbullah. For him to say that he is ignorant of what was going on there is unacceptable. The land in Vannathivillu where training took place was used by Rishard Badurdeen to settle Muslims not only from other parts of Sri Lanka, but also Muslims from foreign countries on false citizenship papers. Why is the government hesitating to do it. Who is the Muslim politician who interfered and got the suicide bomber released when he was arrested for beheading Buddha statues in Mawanella.

    Latheef Farook & Fathima,
How are you going to account for the role played by the National Thowheet Jamath the headquarters of which is in Kathankudy, a fort of Hisbullah. Surely Hisbullah should have been aware of the activities of NTJ. Was NTJ involved in the Mawanella incident. What was the role played by Moulavi Zaharan? Was he preaching Quran or hate speech? It cannot be accepted that majority of the Muslims are at a distant from this NTJ because Hisbullah had links with NTJ as there are news that Hisbullah was seen discussing with NTJ. Moreover, why did Hisbullah took immediate steps to replace all heads of Department and lecturers as Muslims in the Eastern Province. Remember every Muslim organizations have links with each other & are well co-ordinated. If any Muslim deny this, why have they failed to inform the Security Forces about the dangerous that were to happen. Moreover, when Hisbullah was requested to call the people to observe a day of mourning, he twisted it & called for Hartal which again raises suspicion about his role in this tragedy perpetrated by the NTJ. Moreover, there is suspicion as to has funded this terrorist organization which also includes former President as a prominent member of NTJ was seen with him. There are much to be said. Country awaits an impartial inquiry. Can any one deny the participation of Sri Lankan Muslims in the ISIS & two of them had died in Syria. What was surprising as to why Maithiripala Sirisena go out of the country after having the Security Ministry.

I had downloaded ,printed and bound an article about the ISIS, A FEW YEARS AGO BUT NEVER GOT TO READ IT IN FULL. Since Sunday this article was my reading material.
I would earnestly urge CT readership to type….
Islamic State Group: The full story.
    By Jim Muir
    BBC News.

Its quite a long read; But worth the trouble; I had commented earlier that Srilanka is on the Tip of an Iceberg.
But now I think we are on the top of a Volcano, which will spew ash ,boulders and lava intermittently……

I am sorry but I believe that peace should have a price: the Muslim Community of Sri Lanka should voluntarily sacrifice the lives of 350 Sri Lankan Muslims. they can use whatever means they want, blow them up. run them down with trucks, throw them from the top of the Shangri la hotel- it is immaterial to me . The sacrificed can be Muslim men, women or children of any age or any profession. To me this is the price of peace. They took away part of my family on Sunday and no amount of money can bring them back so I am asking for an eye for an eye and this is something Muslims follow and understand.

      Pujith Fernando

Well I know the country is rapidly going back to the dark ages. Your typing confirms my fear.
The country has sacrificed many life using the same kind of logic.

Please find useful and creative tips in the following article:
THE HISTORY OF TORTURE IN ANCIENT SRI LANKA

      You can’t go wrong.

      Dear suffering Pujith Fernando,

I can only begin to imagine the painful and angry state you must be in after losing your loved ones in this terrible massacre of innocents. Far be it from me to condemn your demand for retribution, your need to hit out at the perpetrators of this enormous crime. Your life will never be the same again. You will cry out for justice, but even if your terrible plea is answered, do you really think the slaughter of others, just as innocent as those who died on Sunday, will heal your wounds?

Seek out and punish the guilty, we must. And eradicate as far as possible the roots of their acts. But this country has seen far too much hate and violence, far too much death and suffering. It is time to break the pattern and pull ourselves back from the abyss.

I beg you, dear Pujith, in the name of your Jesus’s opposition to the Mosaic law of an eye for an eye, listen to/read statements put out by some of your brethren (e.g. one by Jaffna Christians cited by Ratnjeevan Hoole in an article here) which oppose the call for retribution. Try to gather strength by coming together with those who are active in searching for other means of dealing with the tragedy and its political fall out.

Dear Pujith, please accept my heartfelt sympathies for your terrible loss, and my wishes for strength and courage to face the future.

It is quite difficult to forget the ones who are lost and pain of losing is huge. It is also important to punish the criminals. But the more important is to go deep to assess the planners, assess the people and powers behind & expose them especially the foreign powers who provided the logistics and support system and above all purpose for doing this. It certainly is not the work of 10-30 people so the most important is to take stock of Sri-lankan country interests. I hope the Government of the country learns from New Zealand and serves its interests well. Don’t forget who created LTTE & who equipped them and how Sri-lanka came out of it and I hope rather than targeting innocent minorities, effective focus shall be to nip the bud of conspiracy at the bottom.

I was shocked to read the article in a website which has a reputation transcending border. According to this author bombing is not the handiwork of local terrorist rather indian role should be investigated. First thing lankan government has to do is to arrest this person so that communal harmony is maintained

Did not expect any different from this hate monger. Taj attacker fled because his Islamic Bomb did not detonate. He went to Dehiwela.

Attacks on innocent Muslims was wrong. But these rich(very rich) Islamic terrorists. Predictably this hate monger has once again spewed his venom and blame the USA and Jews. Then Muslims must be really stupid. Please CT, do not let this man print venom here.

They ARE Muslims. They are WAHABI Salafist Saudi indoctrinated porcine excrement terrorists. If you do not have the balls to directly condemn them, you lose any moral authority to write here. Blame everyone else except the savage killers. What did the Catholics do to your people? Nothing.

Where was it “proven” the attacks in Europe were carried out by MOSSAD? you have a sick demented racist mind. You are trying to link attacks in India on this. The muslim terrorist who was assigned to blow up Taj fled because his Muslim bomb did not detonate. They had tried to attack the Indian HC on April 4th. These are brainwashed people. Again let me ask you WHAT THE FUCK did Catholics do to you? They are all like you in appearance and DNA. What did they do to you? Blame Mossad? Please except the racist few like you NO ONE will believe this shit you print here. This is dangerously close to justifying terrorism. You are a demented hate monger

How can CID or anyone question Muslim politicians because they are important for Sinhala politicians to come to power and also they helped them to win the war against LTTE? They fund these guys, import drugs for these guys, get help from Pakistan to involve Golden Crescent in its drug economy and hundreds of desperate women going to ME to wash their toilets and that is the biggest foreign exchange earner for these guys to have a top life and frequent 5 star travels and also to visit Indian Hindu temples to seek blessings and favours. Muslims are not fools and they know how to play the game accordingly. They use any adverse situation to their utmost advantage and one cannot blame them because they know how to play the ball. LTTE was a god sent gift and they got so much while tamils were slaughtered by the Sinhala military. Even these Muslims, especially in the east, joined and killed tamils as Home Guards, etc. Now some of them will go on marches, prayers etc for the dead victims and life goes on. Sinhala modayas will be back to square one. They have no time even to sort out their venom and back stabbing. Who knows now JVP or such curse may lift its head to continue the good work in Dukka Deepa.

Why was Sri Lanka seated as the target for bombings by ISIS I would list to following reasons
    1. Continuing crisis within the government between President and PM
    2., Repeated Muslim Singhala riots
    3. The fight to grab power
    4. Easy to buy people because of poverty’
    5. Easy to put the blame on LTTE
6, Inefficient defense due to political interference
    7. No proper system to follow up information received from different countries
    8. Inefficient President
9 Economically prosperous in Eastern province supported by the governor
    10. Easy to spared rumors through gossips

‘Handful of undesirables,’ ‘obscure group,’ ‘merely pawns,’ ‘misguided youth’…Classic use of euphemisms to shirk accountability. Instead ‘Name’ them. Make them accountable. The suicide bombers were not innocent babes. They were terrorists and they killed 359 people. Now those dead are the innocents.

    Latheef Farook,

It is the Muslim community”s turn to face the onslaught of the Sinhala Lankas Armed forces which have now been unleashed on the entire Muslim Community. But the blame lies with the Majority who have brutalised the minorities for the last 70 years. Even the Queen and the British Government apologised for the failings during the British Rule. But in Sri Lanka no one from the Majority Community is prepared to show Remorse. The future is bleak already and will get even bleaker under MR if he is relected. The loss of revenue for the Tourist Industry is put at $1.5 Billion. But China will be happy to lend it bringing Sri Lanka under its sphere of influence and India will do likewise so Sri Lankas Sovereignty will be further erroded.
Whose fault is it The answer is 22 Million Racists have brought it upon themselves . No getting away from it.

Instead of blaming Majority Buddist people of this great land why don’t you look within your community to see what is going on.Tell me one thing that the the state does not provide minorities that Sinhala Buddist enjoy.on the other hand minority’s always demanding more and more .Muslim population explosion is beyond control and a drain on the country’s resources,Also family values cultural values should be instilled in younger generation by the parents and not let Mullas take over.It is a well known fact Buddism is the most tolerant religion in the world and within Sri Lanka terrorism has taken root due to this very reason. It is high time all Sri Lankan Citizens put religion. Race, colour a side work towards betterment of humanity.and denounce all forms of hatred and violence that brings suffering to to all .There is one life .live it honorably .No person has arisen from death and come back to say wether they are haven or in hell.

We all see Mithree was severely irresponsible and hide the information. As a result 350 killed.. Yet he is vague. Even today he is with all the powers. I consider it as the first risk to all of us. Please closely study his performance It is questionable. In this situation what ever he does no one raise the voice. No one in this country could play fool with 300 lives. All the citizens get together be strong. How could such a person give all the powers while our lives are at risk. I do not see he feels that. Give this information to all. Today we all are at risk and no leader who feels us.

From many of the comments here, it seems that Israel already has a big foothold in Sri Lanka. It has been proven beyond a shadow of doubt that the MOSAD is responsible for 911. It has always been the goal of Zionists to divide people in a way that will be deadly to Muslims. Despite military sanctions on Myanmar, Israel still sells weapons to the Buddha government to kill Muslims. Israel, India and Saudi Arabia have joined hands, so it doesn’t surprise me that Israel is making an attempt to to do the same in Sri Lanka. I hope and I pray that the Sri Lankans will not allow this to happen. There has been enough bloodshed during the civil war. Muslims love Sri Lanka the same as the Christians and Buddhists , so stay united and keep an open mind. Look for the outsiders who did this dastardly deed.

A very neutral Sri Lankan speaking here, i can’t say i disagree with Latheef’s point of view, except in the case of Mossad and such as i have no known evidence to back it up.
As for @CaliphateCyst, Wahabism and Salafism is majorly followed in Saudi Arabia, which i would like to remind you all, DOES NOT, in any capacity, REPRESENT ISLAM.
The Saudi Arabian ruling family is known for its unislamic and inhumane practices.
Saudi Arabia is Only The Land of Islam, this doesnt necessarily mean its high seaters in particular follow the doctrines of Islam.
And, on top of preaching your empathy towards the unfortunate victims of the Easter Sunday Attacks, while blaming Latheef and fellow Muslims of being racist, you have the AUDACITY to label the entire Muslim Community as”indoctrinated porcine excrement”. This shows your stand as a human and i would personally, regard YOU as a racist low-life.
I have to mention here that the Muslim Community is aware of the atrocities committed on the Tamils in the North by the Lankan Forces and have utmost regard and sympathies for the Northern Community. (Muslims also live in the North FYI)
As for ministers being involved in the atrocious acts of Easter Sunday is not up to me and id like to leave it to the authorities.
If you have no evidence, please don’t trash around, spreading your unwanted garbage. After studying the Quran and Islamic teachings, I can fixedly say that there is no such thing as killing innocents in any Islamic book upto my knowledge. Islam was created to be a religion of peace and its teachings clearly state that war should not be initiated until and unless there is a threat to the community and FYI, committing sucide or murdering is HARAM(strictly not allowed) in Islam.
