Why Not Finish Wimal Weerawansa?

There is much speculation amongst the public, who voted in droves, to change the ugly and downward spiralling political dynasty of former numero uno Mahinda Rajapaksa as to the delay in bringing the plunderers to Court. The longer it takes to do so, the greater is the chance of obfuscating the issue with patriotism or some such nonsense.

Weerwansa

Here are some of the theories that abound. President Maithripala Sirisena is being pilloried by the SLFP MP’s who want him to run for President the next time. Their fortunes lay in forming an SLFP led government on the back of a Maithripala victory at the next Presidential elections.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe wishes to be the President himself and therefore will not want the Presidency abolished. For the incumbent Prime Minister to be President he would want the SLFP divided. To keep the SLFP divided the Rajapaksa’s have to be free and politicking.

If this is the simple logic Sri Lanka has no chance in hell of ever giving her people a better and brighter future. It tantamount to treason. 6.2 millions of people voted on the facts presented to them at the last Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

The civil society that rallied around the call for Good Governance must be relentless in holding on to what was promised.

The Attorney General’s Department is under fire. So is the FCID and the CID. Purely due to the delay in bringing the murderers and plunderers to book. Many a reason is thrust upon a gullible public given a penchant for amnesiac behaviour.

Consider two such open and shut cases. That loud mouthed Wimal Weerawansa and his wife were accused of altering their dates of birth in obtaining two passports. The news media was awash with these allegations sometime ago. What is the fate of these two cases?

To us laymen it’s a simple investigation. Obtain the two Passport applications. Ascertain the hand writing and signatures. Confiscate the two Passports in question. Check if they have been used. Record their statements. File action for tendering as genuine a forged document. End of case. Even such a simple investigation has not been concluded.

It is no small wonder that people, who are sovereign or supposed to be so in this thrice blessed land are agitated. It is no small wonder that the AG’s Department and the varying arms of the Police are under fire. It is no small wonder that there is suspicion that someone or more are vacillating. Who? Is it President Sirisena or Premier Wickremesinghe? It has to be one of the two or both. No one else will gain by this.

We challenge the civil society to push the Government to conclude the Wimal Weerawansa and wife’s cases. Ravi Karunanayake had to step down as the heat got intense in the kitchen. Stoke the embers to finish these simple cases. Civil Society, Media….where art thou?

Let’s get this out of the way. The rest will be like dominoes. (Minnell Goonawardane)

Going after small fry like WW and spouse is not what is important right now . The big fish of the last regime , and the even bigger fish of this one need to be charged . Nice attempt to divert attention , but please remember we voted this lot in , to bring about transparency and honesty , and they have failed miserably on both counts.

Let them lock up WW for a start! They should have enough evidence to put him away for at least a good 30 years by now…

But yes only going after WW is not enough…

We want them to put all the Rajapaksas away too. Surely they must have enough evidence to put them away for life!?

If not invite #INTERPOL to come find the required evidence and help build up the cases against them and put them away for life…

Surely #INTERPOL can get evidence from organizations like the #NSA and European equivalents too if they need to.

Even if that youngster died becuse of taking viagra when he already had some heart ailments , even then the autopsy results and the investigations should have been public. the reason is WW is a legislator. IF not, everybody understand, WW beat him. so the youngster died. Fake autopsy report and investigation covered it up.

“We want them to put all the Rajapaksas away too.”

          Who are we?

Tamil Diaspora; USA; UK; India; Sinhala Christians; Wellala Politicians; UNP stooges ….

Ordinary folks in Sri Lanka do not want to put Rajapakses away. Most of the Sinhala people who voted against Mahinda Rajapakse regret for their decision. President Rajapakse changed this country which was a hell for nearly three decades to a peace full place. This Yamapalakayo is dragging the country to an economic hell.

If a robber come with a gun and rob a bank, Police run after to catch the thief. When ‘Gentlemen’ who wear suit and tie rob a bank without using guns., no police action to catch the thieves. Only commissions that do not yield any result. For two years MY3 did not do anything except shouting ‘Rakapakse Hora, Thakkadiya, Minee Maruwa’ and eventually found out who he thought ‘Mr. Clean’ and his Buddies are the biggest ‘Horu’.

It looks Civil society or some one is upset, that One thief from the horaplanaya had to quit. Ranil Wickramsinghe is not worried about getting rid of thieves. Instead, he is spending public money in order to erase his putird image. what wimal Weerawansha did almost every politician in the parliament has done. Why civil society has to come and fight to to get rid of WW. Some other group is worried about wijayadasa Rajapakse. There should be something cooking behind.,

Corruption, yes. It was right that Ravi K had to step down. What about bigger blunderers of the last regime? Millions were horded in foreign banks, why not bring them to justice?
It doesn’t matter who, all those involved in corruption, money laundering and murders must be punished, impunity will breed more. No one should be allowed to get away with criminal acts.

The way this Government is handling these Rajapaksas Criminal Network cases and failing to take meaningful action against them might end up in a situation like what happened to Muammar Gaddafi where his own people beat him to death on the road in his own country.

Looking at the news you can see people losing confidence in this Government as they are failing to punish the corrupt politicians and anger and frustration seems to be building up…

The Government must act fast and take meaningful action against the Rajapaksas Criminals and maintain peace and stability in our country…

Wimal was already in remand prison for 3 months for no apparent reason. It is time for the civil society to push the government to send their own rogues starting from the Prime Minister, Ravi, Mahendran and Aloysius to prison with many others in tow, based on concrete evidence emanating from PCoI findings.

Perpetual Treasuries have made a fortune at the expense of state institutions. The loss to the government is in trillions according to one of their own Ministers.

A Special Corruption Court should be established to investigate corrupt government Ministers to find how much they made during the past 2 1/2 years and as to how. A similar investigation should also be carried out about the previous government. That is called good governance, I guess.

“If this is the simple logic Sri Lanka has no chance in hell “
Your correct in this observation. If you read everything written above this it is all about politicians and what is good for them, nothing to do with the voter or rule of law.

“The Attorney General’s Department is under fire. So is the FCID and the CID.”

AG is rightfully under fire for its incompetence but FCID and CID cannot be blamed when 100’s of files are gathering dust in the AG dept.

Again this comes back to politicians as the AG is appointed by the president. We are not talking about minor delays but zero action of major high profile cases.

These guys are a disgrace to the legal profession.

I predict RW winning. UNP has a base Sinhala vote of about 39%. He gets that plus 99% of Tamil and Muslim votes. Sirisena and MR faction will be holding the goo-baaldiya aka shit pot aka chamber pot. If MR floats GR instead of the crooked brother GR will come in 2nd and Sirisena 3rd. That simple. RW benefits immensely from keeping MR afloat; brilliant strategist like JRJ. So again I say to Sinhala chauvinists here and MR ambattayas, RW will win the Presidential election. Only hope for the MR crowd is in fact to support constitutional reform to replace the Executive Presidency.

However & how much we complain, this government or rather the two VVIP’s are not going to do anything needed urgently until the whole thing crashes down. The fact is, these two doesn’t know what to do next or how to correct the situation.
These two are just busy undercutting each other & their respective opposition party. They think they will loose the political power or loose in the next election if they did anything considered “right”.
The burning issue of the so called ‘reconciliation’ is just getting dragged even after eight years and no one is serious about doing anything about it, but continuing to block everything possible. Thus making things difficult for all. How can the country prosper with these kind of useless and unfit politicians ?
It’s the biggest curse for the nation. What have we achieved in the last 70 years after independence and see how well India is marching forward against all the odds !
If these people cannot take any simple action against Wimal Weeravansa what else can do about MR, GR and all the rest of the crooks and day light murderers ?!

Given all of above and more, this country will be in EXACTLY the same mess, 60 years from now, with every country around us, making considerable headway.

If these theories have even a modicum of truth in them, the Prime Minister will be seen through history as one of Sri Lanka’s greatest political disappointments, given his pedigree and background.

There is only one way to deal with politics as with everything else. It is the RIGHT way.

It is my view that this so-called simple Passport cases of Mr- & Mrs. Wimal are being tactically
delayed as a verdict will (say a fine) will only make him bolder in his patriotic stand against
the two leaders activities. Further delaying these case until a time when Elections are around
would keep the accused out of the electioneering. This applies to MR/GR cases too – the
delay and timing it to electioneering is important to the present Leaders. MS will give into
RW, as his MS) votes will remain split to the end.

What about the 10,000+ Tiger terrorists Rajapaksa released ? Shouldn’t Rajapaksa be tried for that? Any investigation into crimes of the previous regime should begin with rearresting of the terrorists followed by the fake passport of Mrs Weerawansa. Then there is the need to investigate the political wing of the LTTE. There are issues of Rajapaksa waisting trillions of loan money on road network in the NE which was alleged as “structural genocide” of the Tamil Homeland. Then there are “tyre pyer s” of 1989. Sometimes you make sense. Indeed we must go back to 5th April 1971 and arrest/rearrest all those who committed crime against humanity and violation of human rights and those who organised riots and benefited from such riots (you in particular and your racist extended family and friends, rent a mob) from 1956, and those who participated in armed violence and terrorism from 1971 to date. How do you propose to punish those who burnt down Jaffna library and stole books and ola manuscripts from the building?

After the last presidential election only it came to light that the back ground campaign director was none other than Sir (my foot) Lynton Crosby – the dirty Australian now living in the UK. He is very well known for running dirty campaigns for right wing parties worldwide. Be it Canada, the UK and even Sri Lanka. He very shrewdly found out that the only way to topple MR was by calling him a thief. Except for Ranil, Malik and Ravi and possibly Mangala nobody else knew about this. Even Sirisena didn’t know. He just read from a script prepared by someone when he claimed MR’s 6 helicopters and Golden horses. (I have to confess that even I believed MR imported at least one helicopter as at that time I didn’t know this dirty bugger Crosby’s involvement.) That’s why many people including Sira are very worried about this situation and blame FCID or AG’s dept, Sagala, Wijedasa etc. To avoid the pressure from the top FCID officers must be passing the files to the AG’s office. But no Pulbic prosecutor with self-respect will bring a case to court unless he has at least a 50% chance of getting a conviction. Otherwise he would be crucified by the defense attorneys and rediculed by the judges
Most of these cases either based on no evidence or very flimsy evidence. By no means I am claiming MR crowd is 100 clean. As the popular saying goes everybody must be having a little lime in their killotas. But whatever they are they can be contained in their killotas. (if you can remember the size of a killota.) Not lime mountains like Ranil’s Central Bank daylight robbery which was seen from every corner of the world. Surprisingly or not surprisingly the Western friends (who promised Mangala to find MR’S 18 billion) are very silent. If it was MR, he would have been skinned alive by now.
My dear people, All this is that Dirty Crosby’s FICTION.

The saying ‘all are equal but some are more equal than others’ appears to be a reality today when considering the alleged passport frauds of MP Wimal Weerawansa and his wife Shashi Weerawansa.
The husband and wife duo are accused of using fraudulent travel documents, but questions have been raised as to why the law enforcement authorities have not taken swift action against these two law-breakers and brought them to book. Would this inaction apply to ordinary citizens of this country as well?
According to Assistant Controller (Legal), Department of Immigration and Emigration, Lakshan de Soyza, using an inactive passport to travel overseas is an offence but the department does not usually take action against the passport holder as such cases are considered oversights. However De Soyza said obtaining a passport by producing forged documents is an offence and those guilty of this would face imprisonment of not less than two years and not more than five years. “In case of an attempt to travel abroad with an inactive passport, we ask the passport holder to bring the legal travel document. But if a person continues to do so, he or she will be dealt with severely,” De Soyza said.
Wimal Weerawansa was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in October last year for using an inactive travel document (passport) to leave the country. He was later given bail by the Additional Magistrate, Negombo.

Wimal’s wife’s case is personal to her, about which I have no interest at all as it has no impact on Sri Lankan politics. —-

Wimal’s situation is different. It is pure political witch-hunt to suppress his voice as he is the only Sinhalese political leader in the Opposition who has no secret dealings whatsoever with Yahapalanaya. He is the only Parliamentarian who have the backbone to go against this government and the only politician whom Sinhalese can trust as a true patriot who will never betray the country for position, personal gain or wealth. —-

About his cases again: His passport case at the airport has nothing to do with his integrity. I blame for his staff for their stupidity for not checking the expiry date of the passport prior to Wimal’s departure. They seem to have checked only visas which were valid. Wimal made a scene at the airport when the system rejected his passport thinking that he was blocked by the government. It was a misunderstanding. As any sensible person can see, it was a genuine mistake on Wimal’s part. Who would use an expired passport to visit several European countries, knowingly? After that he obtained a new passport using his right as a Member of Parliament and rescheduled his visit. —-

About his vehicle case: There is no allegation against him misusing vehicles. He was charged, actually not charged, he was arrested and produced before courts for “aiding and abetting” to misuse vehicles when he was a Minister, pending investigations under the “Public Property Act” under which even Ranil, Ravi, Mahendran, Aloysius, Mahinda S, Malik, Amunugama and many others could also be charged, arrested and imprisoned. Even the current President, former President, their Cabinet Ministers, now and then all could be charged under “Public Property Act”.

      Contd’………

      Continuation2…

Back to Wimal’s case: There are no charges against Wimal for misusing vehicles. He was charged for “aiding and abetting some others to misuse vehicles” where there are no documentary evidence that he had given any orders to that effect. The hilarious thing was the failure of the FCID to charge those who actually gave orders to use vehicles and those who actually used vehicles. —-

Even though there are documentary evidence that Wimal’s predecessor Rajitha had given direct orders to use the same or a higher number of vehicles for his personal staff, he was not charged. As a rookie Minister, Wimal has used veteran Minister Rajitha’s orders as a precedent to guide Ministry staff which the had been followed by the Ministry without any legal or procedural ramifications. —-

Even another veteran Minister Lakshman Kiriella, while holding the post of Leader of the House set another ‘fine’ example by hiring 61 new Advisors to his Ministry, directly and knowingly misusing public funds to pay salaries, other perks, vehicles, fuel, communication facilities, etc, who was not charged so far. I can give a long list of people whom the Karmic FCID missed in this government and previous government. —-

Ravi Karunanayake also resigned without facing charges. He is now accompanied by the President, PM to every event, even to pay audience to Chief Prelates of Asgiriya and Malwatte Chapters, like a saint who had not done any wrongdoing. Not only in Bond scam, he has misused his finance ministerial portfolio to release containers without paying duties or due inspection. —-

Ranil (the Creator), Mahendran (the Preserver) and Aloysius (the Destroyer), the Trimurthi of the Central Bank Bond heist (the most powerful trio – local Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) are also enjoying position, freedom, wealth and hospitality without any problem.

      Continued …… 3

      Continuation3…

Ranil has two dominant political forces, the President and Wimal. Although he could pass President at times, Wimal’s persistent fortitude and perseverance is something that Ranil can never break. Wimal is an irresistible politician who uses his political acumen only to the best interest of the country, not for cheap political gain or greediness. That is the reason for his ability to rally people at a drop of a hat irrespective of party or colour. —-

Ranil seems to be contemplating to use the same forces that he used in 2015 January, the NGOO cohorts, LTTE diaspora, US, India, may be UK’s Opposition, China (new), TNA and Muslim politicians, to win 2020 election. That is the reason for his eagerness to pass the Federal Constitution, ICPPED, IDP voting rights, establishing a War Crimes Tribunal, OMP, Truth Commission, selling national assets, all three ports and even fishing harbours, airports, government lands, etc. Without that he has no political future after 2020 (anyway, we will make sure not to have him again in Sri Lankan politics.) —-

All the local/international forces who are hell bent on achieving the above will influence Ranil. Therefore, Ranil is compelled to suppress Wimal while finding ways to undermine President’s influence by having deals with JO and his usual other cohorts as any action of suppression and resultant protests can be portrayed to the world, as a rising of the public against the President. Rajapaksa clan/JO who supported RTI, Hambantota-deal, Federal Constitution and OMP in the Parliament, will gladly support Ranil to jail Wimal as they can use Wimal’s popularity to garner ‘voluntary’ public support to themselves. —-

Needless to say, Sinhalese should come forward to protect Wimal, as there is nobody else as strong and formidable as Wimal to protect the country!!!

Glad at least some people realize this is wrong. Isn’t this the same story with the constitution and Buddhism? All religions are equal but Buddhism is more equal than others.

Considering the constitution is the supreme document of the land can we conclude that the land is standing on a load f crap.

If the corruption allegations of politicians & their cronies in the past 10 years are to be investigated, it will be like opening a can of worms. The Bribery Commission, FCID, IRS, etc. etc. will not have the resources to investigate them all or totally out of depth with the investigations. The best we can hope for is some toothless investigative commission when the accused will finally ‘honorably’ resign (albeit kicking & screaming) from holding a high office but since we have short memories, it will not be long before the accused is reinstated & everything is back to the status quo.

The day any of these thieving yobs are brought to justice, we can expect pigs to fly. As for naming & shaming, SL politicians have thick hides & since everyone in their circles are crooks, it will be a good laugh over expensive single malt as to how they got away with it. It just improves their status in their social circles.

This story reminds me of King Kekle’s verdict (Kekule rajaruvange nadu thiinduwa).
    *
A thief during an act of burgling was killed by a falling wall. His accomplice pleaded with Kekule to sentence the owner of the house to death because he was liable for the collapse of the wall.
The owner pointed to his builder who in turn pointed to the potter who then pointed to a pretty woman who distracted him. She shifted the blame to a goldsmith who had no excuse to offer.
The goldsmith pleaded guilty but argued that it will hurt the king’s tusker who will be used to knock off his head because he was so small made and the tusker may miss him and fracture his tusk in the process, which will in turn be a slur on the king.
The goldsmith suggested to the baffled king that his neighbour was much fatter than him, and could be executed instead; and the king obliged.

Minell, its all in the hands of Civil Society. C.S must meet from every electoral district and form a District Committee. This Committee must agree and assign a RULING COMMISSION with two persons with the most authority. Involve people from the Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and Muslim COMMUNITIES. Then apply to the Elections Commissioner for recognition. He will give it to you within moments. Then, CONTEST, and give your message to the masses. The message should be:

    1) Only 18 Ministers will be appointed.
    2) Name those Ministers prior to elections.
    3) No motor vehicles will be allowed for Ministers, and no one, not the Directors, doctors etc etc and Parliamentarians will get “DUTY FREE” vehicles. ALL will pay duty.
    4) No rent allowance. Live in your own house or in a hostel.
    5) Pay ONLY a salary.
    6) The salary should be based on the Dollar/Rupee value and may be between US$ 4000/ to 5000/ That is ALL they get. No other allowance. No secretarial allowances, no “co-ordinating secs” and all those goons!
    7) Impose a total of ten years or two terms. After that, “Disce Aut”
    8) Announce these and any other STRICT terms before the elections.
    9) Ministers and State Employees may receive a good Bonus at the end of the year, IF the ministry/corporation is profitable.

How to cure of corruption, power abuse and all that is wrong with our soceity, is the question. Whatever way is chosen the witch hunting called upon by mediocre journalists who often do not even bother to check the facts is definitely not the way to go.

Talking of mediocre journalists – what they write most often is nothing but rumours and do more harm than a million Weeravamsas or Rajapaksas can do. These journalists condition the minds and psyche of the society into a mood of witch hunt, sometimes culminating in isolated episodes of violence against the assumed enemy or witch, and more seriously in riots and pogroms, as our country has sadly experienced. A sick news media which uncritically publish anything and with journalists who do not care what they write, but spread rumours as if they are the absolute truth, is a sickness of its own. I am tempted to call this kind of writing, corrupt, because they really do more harm, and serve no purpose at all.

This piece of journalistic masterpiece has a heading which sends shivers. The writer is asking “Why not finish…” a named person, then goes on to say “Here are some of the theories that abound” !! Seriously!! Theories that abound in other words is nothing but rumours, and these “theories” could really exist or the writer could just make them up too. The masterpiece ends with a fantasy of “The rest will be like dominoes ” if we get this out of the way . Does the writer really think it is as simple as that? A simplistic and cheap witch hunt is called for, to solve a very complex problem. Again displaying how people who write pieces like this, with no substance at all suffer from, and alarmingly it also displays how far we are from solving the problems our society is suffering from.

    “Why Not Finish Wimal Weerawansa?”
How about quoting one of his friends blurting , “I have an unblemished record of hatchet job for MR and his gang. MR will not allow anyone to touch me”. Some JOBS:
Lead role in impeachment of 43rd CJSL Mrs Shirani Bandaranayake.
Arranged a colleague to go to France, meet with Prageeth and report to parliament
Explained away the Lasantha furore as self-inflicted.
Kept quiet when skeletons of comrades were unearthed in Matale.
    The list is voluminous.
To “finish” Wimal, we must “disappear” the Lankan icon “Lemon Puff”.

I don’t see any reason for not questioning Rajapaksa clan and bringing them to courts if they were involved in plundering the country same as Ranil and the UNP gang, or involved any murders, torture or abductions.

No one should be above the law and saviours of the country mantra or defeaters of LTTE mantra are not something their cohorts can chant anymore to protect them from being questioned because their behaviour in the parliament has proved that they are not as patriotic as people envisaged.

Rajapaksa led JO supported RTI, OMP, Hambantota deal, Federal Constitution, and if presented ICPPED, they would even support that too. This is ample proof that Rajapaksa clan do not love the country but their only aim is coming back to power by hook or crook. Their support for Federal Constitution and OMP proves that they want to seek TNA’s support at the next election to come back to power even at the expense of the country. Their time is over. They have shown their true colours to the country already. It is time Sinhalese Buddhists realize this truth.
