Wicky Is Running Siri To The Ground: Intellectuals & Scholars Join Mahinda

By H. L. D. Mahindapala

MahindapalaThe unfolding events, one more telling than the other, defines the emerging political trends which, in the foreseeable future, seem to be irreversible. The polarization of the contending forces into Left and Right camps has also fallen into two clear cut political domains. On the Right is the Siri-Wicky regime with Chandrika Bandaranaike as the Third Party in the troika, leaning heavily towards the West. On the Left is Mahinda Rajapaksa, with stalwarts like Dinesh Gunawardena, forging forward with the inherited spirit of the rejuvenated Boralugoda Lion, with Wimal Weerawansa firing his deadly verbal artillery on Siri-Wicky targets, and with no-nonsense Vasudeva Nanayakkara ripping into the Wickremesinghe-led Right.

All of them are marching hand-in-hand to regain the interrupted regnum of the people. Collectively their alliance has given the New Left a reinvigorated meaning to rise against the Right-wing forces, both internationally and nationally. Collectively they have gathered an unexpected political momentum from a wide range of grass root forces. Simultaneously, the Right is witnessing (though they will not admit it) the fizz of the Siri-Wicky regime which bubbled on January 8, 2015 evaporating under their delusional eyes. The last bubbles fizzled out even before the abracadabra of their “100 days” ended. The disillusionment creeping up has come to stay. Theirs is an uphill task to recapture the rapture that took them to their peak on January 8. From day one the Siri-Wicky regime has been going downhill. What the Right is losing is gained daily by the New Left.

It began as an over-sized trickle at Nugegoda. Political commentators agree that it has now turned into an unstoppable wave sweeping across the landmass in the south. And this is happening at various people-to-people levels. The Siri-Wicky Right has no effective answer to combat the New Left. What is noteworthy now is the momentum created by the Nugegoda Man has gone through the ceiling and penetrated the upper levels Initially it was confined to daring and perceptive intellectuals like Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Dr. Gunadasa Amerasekera and Dr. Nalin de Silva who exposed the hollow shell of the Yahapalanaya with their x-ray analyses. They were with the first wave that rose with the Nugegoda Man – the new political man. They were joined by public intellectuals like the former Chief Justice, Sarath N. Silva, who came out swinging with both hands to pummel the illegally constituted regime. Before long (i.e., within the 100 days) the sangha, trade unionists, artists, and some journalists who have the capacity to assess the new realities critically, joined the Nugegoda Man.

In the meantime, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was meeting various delegations at the Abeyrama Temple in Narahenpita for “discussions” (ceremonial Dækum, says Professor Emeritus. Gerald Peiris) almost on a daily basis. The rush to meet him, whether in Hambantota or in Nugegoda, is an unprecedented political phenomenon which reflects the underlying nature of the political crisis threatening the future of the nation. The rush to meet Mahinda Rajapaksa is not to hero-worship him but to save the nation form the perils hanging over its head like the Damocles Sword. They have nowhere to go except to him. They accept him as the only leader available in the political landscape who could lead the nation in this time of crisis to save the nation, once again, and reinforce the power of all that was gained at Nandikadal.

At the same time, the fire lit by the Nugegoda Man sparked off even larger fires in the other provincial cities. The “Bring Back Mahinda” campaign was creating a political sensation never experienced in the post-independent era. The closest that I can think of is the spontaneous mourning crowds that queued up to pay homage to Dudley Senanayake when his body was lying in state in the old Parliament. But that was a tribute paid to a dead leader. The people flocking to meet Mahinda Rajapaksa is a tribute to a living icon. Never had a leader – a defeated one at that – received a spontaneous response from the people as in the case of Mahinda Rajapakse. In both cases people have flocked to pay back their debt of gratitude for services rendered to the nation.

The message was coming loud and clear. The failure of the Siri-Wicky regime to live up to its promises was obvious even to the backbenchers who are putting up a brave front for public consumption. Oddly enough, just at the time when the forces around the Siri-Wicky regime began to fall apart they were hit by their close friends and political allies. The first big blow came from the NGOs. Radhika Coomaraswamy, Jehan Perera, “Paki” Saravanamuttu, J. C. Weliamuna et al, realized that Wickremesinghe, who was running the show, had cut the ground under the feet of Sirisena. As stated by the NGOs the Siri-Wicky regime was meandering “aimlessly”.

Even Rathana Thero of the JHU is now calling for another regime change. Champika Ranawaka, who was crowing that he launched the war in Mavil Aru, that he saved the nation, and that he was the prime mover behind all the victories, including the regime change and “the revolution” of January 8th, 2015, has suddenly ceased to claim fatherhood for the Siri-Wicky regime. JVP too is now insisting that the Yahapalana-yakos should pack up and go home. Even the lumpen Marxist School of the Peradeniya Campus blasted the Siri-Wicky regime.

At the end of 100 days the ground swell of “Bring back Mahinda” movement has grown too big to ignore, or write off as a passing road show. The latest political move coming from the re-awakened Peradeniya University confirms beyond any doubt that there is a distinct trend developing against the Yahapalana-yakos even at the highest levels. Almost overnight the leading lights of the Campus formed the Association of Intellectuals, Scholars and Professionals in Kandy to back President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the coming elections. The opening lines of the communiqué, written and issued by Prof. Gerald H. Peiris, one of the brilliant scholars of our time, says it all : “In the context of the intensifying crisis of governance in Sri Lanka witnessed over the past three or four months we have inaugurated an organisation consisting of certain members of the academic staff of the University of Peradeniya (past and present) and other leading professionals in the city of Kandy and its suburbs for the purpose of promoting the prospects of the political group led by the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa at the forthcoming parliamentary elections. Our membership is united and unanimous in its conviction that Sri Lanka’s interests and aspirations – in particular, safeguarding sovereignty, ensuring political stability, and pursuing rapid and sustained socio-economic progress – would be best served if the post-election regime would be one in which the former president could perform the key leadership role. Accordingly, our association expects to engage in a “pro-MR” campaign targeted mainly at the educated middle-class in our area of operation which we believe is critically significant to the overall outcome of the forthcoming parliamentary polls, and explain to those in that layer of society through a series of seminars and discussions the reasons upon which our convictions and objectives are based.”

This critical and perceptive response coming from our concerned intellectual and scholars indicate the depths of feelings and the sense of crisis threatening and overwhelming the nation. This reveals that the disillusionment with the Yahapalana-yakos is complete, from top to bottom in the south. The “Bring Back Mahinda” has gathered a momentum which cannot be reversed. There is, of course, the question of how all this will translate into votes in the coming election. But the prospects are that it will grow from strength to strength because of the failures of the Siri – Wicky regime. There are no signs of the Yahapalana-yakos recognizing the new realities that are dragging them into a grave dug by their pseudo-intellectual, Wickremesinghe.

He is at his best in kuth-thu-fying behind-the scenes and wrecking his own party and the nation. The Siri-Wicky-CBK troika was good at plotting with 50 other groups – i.e., 47 minor local political groupings, plus CIA, RAW and NGOs – to overthrow the Mahinda Rajapakse regime. But they have failed to replace it with the political nirvana they promised on January 8, 2015. Let alone the “ideal society” they promised in their manifesto, they have failed even to deliver the promised “difference” (when-a-suck), which was their prime slogan in the last presidential campaign. They were, of course, euphoric when they dismantled the old regime but they were pathetic in their failure to create a substitute. Greatness is in creating something valuable and viable, just not in breaking what had been there. Breaking is easy. Rebuilding a new world is difficult as seen in the “Arab Spring.”. It becomes impossible when the task of creating the new order is handed over to abject failures. President Sirisena’s biggest mistake was in handing over the powers of running the country to the two biggest failures in modern history : Ranil Wickremesinghe and Chandrika Bandaranaike. Their track record is abysmal.

Neither of them are figures that can inspire confidence in the future because their past history has been the worst ever on record since Don Juan Dharmapala, the turn coat, sold the nation to the Portuguese. Following in his footsteps Wickremesinghe even invited the Portuguese Prime Minister to celebrate 500th anniversary of the invasion of the first Western imperialists who destroyed every brick of Buddhist and Hindu sacred sites they could. Sadly, it is this pseudo-intellectual that is hailed as the hero by the half-literates in the UNP backbenches.

The response of the scholars, professionals and intellectuals to the new barbarism of the Siri-Wicky regime comes as a redeeming beacon of light to the nation floundering in the dark, choppy seas. A formidable band of intellectuals and scholars is leading this new front.

The Committee of Advisors consists of :
· Ven. Dr. Medagama Dhammananda (Secretary of the Asgiriya Chapter of Siyam Nikaya)
· Dr. Asoka Amaratunga, Professor Emeritus, and former Dean of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya
· Mr. M. D. Sirisoma, retired public servant (former Secretary of the Central Provincial Council)
· G. H. Peiris, Professor Emeritus, University of Peradeniya

The following office-bearers too are drawn from various disciplines: President: Dr. Ariyaratne Herath, Senior Lecturer in Economics at Peradeniya, Secretary: Mr. Nimal Premawansa (school teacher and former member of Parliament from Nuwara Eliya District), Convener of Meetings and Treasurer: Mr. Sumedha Weerawardena, Senior Lecturer, Department of Philosophy, University of Peradeniya. There are, in addition, 6 Committee members, five of whom are persons from outside the university.

This Association of Intellectuals, Scholars, and Professional has come at the right time to fill a great void. They constitute the needle of the compass which points to the new directions.

Highlighting the first meeting Prof. Peiris wrote : “A seminar of the Vidvath Vrutheeyavēdīngē Sansadaya (Association of Scholars and Professionals) on the ‘Post-January 8th Political Milieu’ was held at the Pushpadhāna Hall in Kandy with the participation of about 200 invitees (seating capacity of the venue was 220). It reached a level of success which I myself did not expect – 2 O’clock on a sweltering afternoon at a place about 1km from the car park of the excessively crowded city would have been a formidable disincentive to the motorised invitees sympathetic to our cause.

“Of the three main speakers Mr. Mohan Samaranayake (a reputed journalist at the peak of his career who had served at various times as Director of the UN Information Centre, Chairman of the Rupavahini Corporation and the Media Spokesman of the President’s Office) was extraordinarily brilliant. On the basis of what I observed from the Chair I felt that he really held the audience spellbound, not so much with his obvious oratorical skills, but with the content of his presentation. Professor Shantha Hennayake, the present Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Peradeniya and an ardent Mahinda Rajapaksa supporter, was also very impressive, especially in the submissions he made in order to show that the Muslims and Tamils have no reason whatever to be prejudiced against the former president. Dr. Wasantha Bandara, the Secretary of the ‘Patriotic National Movement’ headed by Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara (doyen of the community of the Sinhala creative writers) was, as usual, persuasive in his demonstration of how ominously our nation is being imperilled by those who hold the reins of political power at present.

“My impression on the seminar participants,” added Prof. Peiris, “is that the majority were from the educated ‘middle-class’ (but not of its highest stratum) – a segment of the electorate from which Mahinda Rajapaksa did not have substantial support at the presidential polls, especially in urbanised electoral districts of mixed ethnicity. Our seminar, targeted specifically as it was at that layer of society, was also intended to contribute to ‘post-war’ inter-group harmony. We did not invite elected political leaders – national or local. The success of the seminar was made evident further by the requests we have had for conducting similar meetings in several other towns by persons who pledged to undertake some of the related organisational functions.”

The Peradeniya campus has been dormant for decades. Once the home of the best and the brightest of the nation it went into hibernation for reasons that have yet to be explained. It is heartening to note that it has once again re-emerged to give leadership to the nation that has lost its way under the misguided leadership of pseudo-intellectuals who have no sense history (our past) or direction (our future)..

““My impression on the seminar participants,” added Prof. Peiris, “is that the majority were from the educated ‘middle-class’ (but not of its highest stratum) – a segment of the electorate from which Mahinda Rajapaksa did not have substantial support at the presidential polls, especially in urbanised electoral districts of mixed ethnicity. Would you consider one of your spokesmen, Wimal Weerawansa an intellectual?
        He says 2/2 =0.

The Average IQ of those who voted for Mahinda Rajapaksa is 65. Those “Tntelelctuals” who attended that meeting ae not much different.. They all are dogs of Mahinda Rajapakda.

What role with the Mahinda Rajapakda regime play during the last 10 years in the decline of Perdeniya university and the decline of the IQ of the “Intellectuals”

You have no shame to promote an Actor. a Liar,, a Crook, a Criminal and and a deceptive one at that , getting a bunch of Idiots, to promote Medamulana Mahinda Rajapaksa again to Modayas, Mootals ans Fools.

We need to forgive Dayan but not Modapala.

Why Dayan: in 2009 he was somewhat vociferous in UNHRC session though the bugger s arguments were not held respected. His is idiosyncratic – nobody can help him.Simply the characteristics of a syndrome (suffering from Mama thamai miniha complex= I am the knowall feeling). We should however forgive the man since his father was a great Journo.

RE: Wicky Is Running Siri To The Ground: Intellectuals & Scholars Join Mahinda

The so-called “Intellectuals” , 200 of them you are referring to, are Shills who were paid by Mahinda Rajapaksa from the finds stolen from the people and from the loans by gutting the country in debt. The Shills and Intellectuals are not much different from Wimal Modawansa, 2/2 =0 Fame. The words Intellectuals do not fit them. A more appropriate word can be selected from among the words, Modayas, Mootals, Fools, Idiots, Morons, Imbecile, Shills and “MaRa Dogs”.

(Statement by the United Front Of The Peradeniya University Lectueres And Alumni) when Mahinda Rajapaksa was in Power.

Friends, time has come to educate one another about the massive corruption that happens in Sri Lanka under the Present (Mahinda Rajapaksa) Regime. The Executive has taken the lead in this process resulting in massive debt, virtually mortgaging our mother land to foreign countries. Each individual and even the unborn in Sri Lanka owes close to Rs 400,000.00 as debt to China and other lending agencies. Country is in the threshold of bankruptcy.

Today more than 50% parliament members have not even passed the O/L examination. Present regime has no respect for education. Country’s development could be achieved only by educating people. We emphasise that more than 6% of the GDP need to be allocated for education, which the emerging new leadership has promised. Hence we strongly feel that the present regime should be removed for a more thoughtful, compassionate and considerate leadership to take reins to spearhead this beautiful nation to be a DEVELOPED NATION devoid of corruption, family favouritism and protected independent Judiciary.

        This Government ………

        1. Promised that the presidential system will be repealed, in the “Mahinda Chinthanaya”, instead extended the number of times a president could contest from two times to unlimited.

        2. Robbed around 95 Million LKR from the “Tsunami” fund ( Helping Hambantota ) donated by the Japanese government. This was his first political robbery apart from what he made as the Minister of Fisheries.

        3. Let all the ministers of his cabinet to rob at their will, hence he could blackmail them. He turned a blind eye when his Prime Minister imported Drugs and few members of his cabinet importing illegal ethanol and drugs.

        4. Alienated the country towards China resulting in India developing bitterness with Sri Lanka.

        5. Obtained loans from China at rates higher than Libor (London Interbank Offered Rate) to earn commissions. These commissions in billions were routed to Swiss bank accounts via Seychelles, where MR opened a branch of Bank of Ceylon and also an Embassy in a country where only 92000 thousand people live. Sri Lankan airline flies to Seychelles.

        6. Built a port where no ships come. Air Port where no Airplanes land. He made billions of commissions doing these projects.

        7. Made money building Roads : The cost per km of the Outer Circular Highway from Kadawatha to Kerawalapitiya financed by China is US$ 56 m(Rs.7.3billion) This cost is three times higher than the Kottawa Kaduwela extension of the Southern Highway financed by Japan ,which is Rs.2.4 billion per km.

        8. The cost per km of Extension of the Southern Highway from Mattala to Hambantota will cost Rs.2.14billion, whereas per km cost of the Southern Highway cost only Rs.975m

        9. Bid price of A9 road was Rs.140 m per km when the departmental estimate for an A class road was Rs. 20m.

        10. Construction of the Norochchole Coal Power Project was awarded to a well- established Chinese contractor at US$280.00M in 2005 by the previous regime. Soon after present regime came into power it cancelled the contract and awarded it to another inexperienced Chinese firm at US$520 million-almost double the previous price. Plant is inoperative even after 2years of completion.

        11. On a dispute between Essential Services Commissioner and Asset Maritime (Pvt) Ltd arbitrator-a retired High Court Judge awarded Rs.600,000.00 as compensation to the company. A Committee appointed by the President on the intervention of the First Lady awarded Rs.180 million to this company owned by Dhammika Perera and Nishantha Wickramasinghe- latter being a brother of First Lady.

        12. Due to the ill-conceived Hedging deal of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation headed by Asantha de Mel (a person connected to the political establishment) lost Rs. 230 billion in2007. No one has been held accountable for huge loss of public funds.

        13. Failed to initiate investigations on 29 journalists murdered or disappeared. Lasantha W, Pradeep Eknaligoda

        14. Failed to initiate investigations into the deaths of Members of Parliament 1. Raviraj and one other.

        15. Appointed 38 numbers of the Presidents family and extended family, to diplomatic missions.

        16. Turned a blind eye on losses at Mihin Air to the tune of 6-8 Billion, made by his closest buddy Sajin vas Gunawardane who had been criminally charged previously. He appointed his brother in Law Nishantha Wickramasinghe to Sri Lankan Airlines who has no formal education and made losses to the tune of Rs 70 billion to date.

        17. Influenced the judiciary to President’s benefit. Impeached the 43rd Chief Justice for no reason. Makes judicial appointments to his benefit.

        18. Allows Presidents children to play (Car races) on the streets of Colombo at their will by closing roads. He over ruled Mahanayake Theroes to hold car races for his children in Kandy town.

        19. Failed to nominate Election, Police, Public Service and Judicial services commissions.

        20. Udayanga Weeratunga – Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia. Cousin of President Rajapakse. Accused of involving in a shady deal to purchase MIG Fighters for the Sri Lankan Air force.

        21. Paid 700.00Million rupees to Prabhakaran to purchase weapons to kill innocent Sinhalese using Karuna Amman who is now a deputy Minister and a Vice President of the SLFP. He uses Kumar Pathmanathan alias LTTE arms dealer to his personal benefit.

        22. How Karuna was sent to London “ On August 30, 2007 the Department of Immigration and Emigration issued a diplomatic passport number D1944260 in the name of “Kokila Dushmantha Gunawardena” whose occupation on the passport was given as Director General of Wildlife Conservation. The photograph on the passport was that of Karuna Amman. The Department of Immigration, it is pertinent to note, comes under the Ministry of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order of which Gotabaya Rajapakse is Secretary and President Rajapakse the Minister”.

        23. Failed to conduct an impartial inquiry into killing of around 43 prisoners at the Welikada Prison.

        24. Did nothing to improve the economy and failed to introduce workers charter. Economy in shambles.

        25. Arranged for his son to sit for the Law exams in an isolated air-conditioned room, away from the other candidates. 26. Killed protesters in Rathupaswala (8), Free Trade Zone (1) and Chilaw (4). He used maximum force on all protestors.” Lets be happy that a rising Dictator was “killed” on 08-01-2015

the difference between MS brother as a SLT chairman and the cousin of MR who was the former Ambasador to the US is sky earth difference. If you have brain the size that of a buruwa – U should have noticed that long back. Current president would never allow idiots to represent the country – that he has proved during the last 6 months and even before that. But Meeharaka Rajapakshe has only appointed stinky men to represent the country regardless of the areas. For him, if his astrologer (iliterate man from Galle) asked him to appoint MR s mother as the representative the country outside, he would do so. That is the greater difference between the two leaders. Be honest, can MR at all represent the country ? Even if the half of the nation is proved to be dumb and deaf – there are still another half would work die hard to achieve the civilized status… Gone are the days meeharaka destroyed both country and the nation, but the years to come … MY3 togethre with pro democratic educated guys will shape the nation and country.. Regardless of the ethnic background, Mr President would react – for sure, that he has proved.. he is not abusive .. not even 1% abusive compared to the bugger Rajapakshe. Latter should be inejcted to the folk – if the country should ever be saved from these idiots.

All these Donkeys are expecting wonders from Yahapalanaya after the country has been under the Jackboot of MR megalomaniac for over ten years. It was only that MR was removed but yet the Corrupt Judiciary remains along with the corrupt Public Service with MR supporters and the corrupt Police Officers. Therefore it will take a while after a General Election to purge the lot to have a system of Good Governance.

Wonder whether MR has given an assurance to this Pala as given to Tissa Witharana that MR will refrain committing Fraud and Murder if he is returned back to Power? What naive Idiots these are?

A few days ago, Mr Mademulana was reported to have been worried of his coconut pluckers – meaning – even them to have turned to go against him.
I have the feeling – those coconut pluckers are on the right way becoming interllectuals of real category – that need to support rather MY3-Ranil and justice supportive groups. This is a good sign even if the blind frogs like M pala and Dayan Jayathilaka would act for any kind of low agendas of the MahaRaja. Maharaja btw is now fallen to the levels that none of us ever thought would have been to this day.

Why the most disgusting buddy of Mnpala is forced to be silent these days ?

Perhahps DJ may have sensed something as some former Pro MR guys have shown the signs sofar.

Just because the MR s term put the stop to the CIVIL war means know that he is given a licence to abuse this nation. But donkeys making up half of the populations are misguided to do so – so only better awareness programs can bring them to healthy mental states.

Yes it will take a while. But it did not take a while for Maithri to appoint his brother SLT Chairman did it? It was done in two weeks! And it didn’t take a while for Ranil to present the Weliamuna report to parliament did it? It took a hell of a long while – in fact he still hasn’t presented it. And it has taken a remarkably long time for the Yahapalanaya to convict a single Rajapakse despite all the evidence against them.

When HLDM says intellectuals and scholars he must be meaning chaps like Rajpal Abeynayake,Duminda Silva,K A Sumanasekera et al

Poor HLDM is dreaming and dreaming of bringing MR back as President

I think HLDM refers intellectuals and Scholars to the follwing:
Weerawanse: Expert on Illegal passport and identity card supply
Karuna amman: Abduction, murder, Ransom and Rape.
Douglas: 10%-15% Commision, Abduction, murder, Brothels.
      Vasudeva: Vulger Speech
      Dayan: Racism expert,
Gotapaya: Murder Unit, Illegal Arm export, White Van production.
      HLDP: Vellala caste Psycho
BBS: Expert on demolition of Mosks,

“Intellectuals & Scholars Join Mahinda”- This process will complete only until after Dr Marvyn Silva joins the fold. Maybe Pala refers to Prof Rajiva Wejesinga, but people of SL knew he would not have left the new Govt if he was given a full portfolio ministry, for him a state ministry would not do.

The rest…. most of them do not join now, there were with him but kept a low key; I refer Dr Rohitha; Lawyer Namal; Prof Pieris; Prof Tissa; Dr Dayan; Lawyer Vasu ; all have good qualifications but what they say in recent times make me to wonder a lot

One famously questioned the women if a option given would they marry Ranil or Mahinda

Other had set a precedent putting up a display of what kind of debate they do and what kind of language they use in parliament while students were in presence in the gallery. He will be remembered for Paka.., for ever. He was a big hit on the U-tube.

A week ago next one came this new torpedo saying he was assured by Mahinda that all corruption would be stopped if he were to be elected.

Then our loving GL Pieris went on to send congratulatory message when Crimea was liberated by pro Russian rebels and faced the ire of even Mahinda, his response then was he prepared a message on the request of Shenuka and Sanjiin.

Only DR Mervyn Silva are to join; Maithiripala- his qualm is whether the queen should hand shake with or without glove with our President, such was his focus.

I was blinking at times if all these people have been working for or against Mahinda. So are SL people I guess?.

Intellectuals following MR? How would this payed scribbler know intellectuals? He is not referring to the people mentioned in his PR-piece, is he? What a daydreaming joker this Mahindapala is. Only question is: why is he so fond of crooks, croonies & criminals? Birds of a feather…

Mt…pala is back with his usual story running down Ranil W and praising MR. He says Scholars And Intellectuals Are Joining MR. I do not know what he means by that. All the guys who are corrupt and against whom legal action will be forthcoming sooner or later gathering behind MR to cover themselves by trying hard to bring back MR to the saddle. They all know what is in store if and when a UNP majority government is formed and are therefore desperate to bring some cover.
These Guys Like Mt…pala living in Australia hiding under the bed are in an imaginary world of their own at the ripe old age. Sometimes he must be having day dreams as well.
Under the present the country is showing good progress in foreign relations and recognition.
In the economic front they are cleaning up the damage done by previous regime without any proper cash flow planning. With the Relationship built with western countries there is bout y of be large investments (not crooked ones as done during last few years)and economy is set to grow rapidly creating a lot of opportunities for our people as a whole and not for a particular family as on the previous regime.

Rani Wichremasinghe and UNP would be happy these kind of people are not with them and happy they support MR as they would give him the real ‘D’ ropes. GOOD LUCK.

Intellectuals and Scholars joining Mahinda…..MY FOOT.

It is only rogues of your calibre who are joining MARA THE TSUNAMI HORA, MURDERER AND THE STATE PLUNDERER.

It is the real intelligentsia and clean men who are behind MY3 and Ranil. I am sure you rogues will have no place in the society, if they prevail and that is the single most reason why you idiots are trying to bring ALI BABA BACK, so that you can cling on to his sataka for protection.

Who else can give protection to all above characters except for MARA THE TSUNAMI HORA & MURDERER.

It is a very simple choice for the electorates, do you need a decent Sri Lanka under rule of law or hand over the reins to MURDERERS,PLUNDERERS, RAPISTS, DRUG BARONS, EXTORTIONISTS, WHITE VAN GOD FATHERS AND PURE RACISTS, that includes you, you idiotic intellectual, not to mention Dayan the D….. too.

Hope saner counsel prevails over idiocy.

What a [Edited out]. I thought it was Rajapal who stooped to that level but with Mahindapala around, he comes a close second. Any association with the despicable lot, Dinesh, Weerawansa, Vasudeva, & other Rajapakse ‘yakkos’ (a term used by Mahindapala) is it self a reason to stay clear of this corrupt & racist bunch. Either Mahindapala is living in a make believe world or just another dumb, gutless crony, grateful for any scraps from the table of his lord & master, MR.

Just getting Dr. in front of your name doesn’t qualify any one as an intellect its the people whom they work with honour them by bestowing merit on them for the services rended by him or her in their sphere of knowledge.

Mahindala’s [Edited out] is getting better and better. The Boralugoda lion is using his dong to titillate the tissues of the rectal orifice of Buruwansa, lubricated by the salivating tongues of Dayan Silva, Sarath Silva, Gunadasa Amarasekera, Nalin Silva et al. G.L.Peiris is tantalizingly swinging his naked white posterior with the narrow black amude band, to the “Bring Back Mahinda” chorus of Rawatana Thero and other Saffrons from the Temples.

The chanting is gathering momentum. Mahinda is savouring the visual and the audio, he is pummeling with both hands, working up his dong to a crescendo. It will soon explode and shoot all over his face. And as expected Pakaya Vasideva will lap it all up. By the time the elections are around the corner, the orgasm will be over and they will all fall in a heap, exhausted.

The fact is MR is seeking these Sinhala Intellectuals for tips to save himself from
the hangmans rope come Sept. 2015 verdict as he did not reach them earlier under his
    “governance”.
Instead of reading jokes, the heading of this writer is todays best joke! MR could
have approached all Universities in sri Lanka and addressed them of the GREAT things
he did in 9 years of governance, instead of visiting hapless villagers at Temples and
dropping politicalcomments now and then over which the media exists these days.

Does the writer consider Peradeniya University Lecturers as intellectuals?- if so here
    what they said:

The intellectuals at Peradeniya University mentioned in Mahindapala’s article? Are they intellectuals? G.H. Peiris is too old and he does not know what he says. Shantha Hennayake- Mr. Mahindapala, please check his credibility at Peradeniya before you write rubbish to misguide people. Everyone at Peradeniya and around knows what his conduct is at this old age. Please don’t insult MR by naming these rogues as intellectuals. You have forgotton how Hennayake became Deputy Vice Chancellor and Atula Senaratne became Vice Chancellor under the MR regime under huge protest from real intellectuals at Peradeniya. In a way, you are correct that UNP with their rogues at Peradeniya are now ruining the University!

I fully expected Mr. Wicramasinghe to be our new President, in 2017. There of course would be none to replace MR as he would have lost sufficient popularity by then (and the crossovers would have happened, not to mentioned the possibility of West supported demonstrations against our Mubarak-Like dictatorship as they would have called it. Sri Lankan Spring, or “isspring” Or Vasanthaya
would have sprung, 2001 and 2011 style.)

The utterance of “President Ranil Wickramasinghe” rolls grandiosely off the tongue like distant thunder. The man is impressive in stature ( i have seen him in person’ and the only man who handled the LTTE successfully, indeed recent Wikileaks revealed that he never expected them to agree to peace talks so he had another strategy.

Whenever I suggested that Ranil run for president I was always told, “Ranil cant win” Ranil this and that. The irony is that I would have expected him to replace MR. He narrowly escaped winning in 2004, perhaps he did not offer the Separatists enough in terms of cold cash or other non monetary incentives, or he was proving too tough an opponent.

The political alliance between MS and RW and their supporting factions was an uncomfortable one to deal with. However the true reasons for the failure of the 100 day programs main promised initiatives – doing away with the Presidency, independent commissions, dissolving parliament etc in the spirit of the letter in which they were written, may never be known. At least dissolve parliament. The President can do this in the blink of an eye. This alone, on April 23rd, would have been good for the country. It has not been done. Why?

It is therefore all the more telling that I think that it is perhaps right to call a new parliamentary election and call for a new Prime Minister or at least the same PM with a different Parliament. President Sirisena has gone on public record to say that he has not promised the premiership to anybody. I think the country will benefit from his rule, “Maithripalanaya”, he has shown signs of true leadership either from the SLFP genes that he inherited or from the high pressure mold that we call the Sri Lankan Executive Presidency. We need a new parliament, even if we have to bring back a retired civil servant as PM if it comes to that.

Most of those named as “Intellectuals” and “Scholars” were supporters of Mr.MR during his “reign” for the most important era from 2010 t0 2014. You pay an ever lasting tribute to Prof.Peiris and Prof. Samaranayke among others who occupied those 200 seats in the meeting hall. How do you account for what went “Terribly Wrong” during that period of four years. So do you meant to say with the presence of these “Intellectuals” and “Scholars” encircling Mr. MR acted very correctly on their advice and led this country down the “PALLAM”- (precipice)? As we saw what happened during that period of four years, you cannot say NO, but agree. I have purposely avoided writing comments on any of your articles, because I consider you to be one among those “Intellectuals” and “Scholars” who led Mr. MR to commit this country to virtual collapse with corruption and mismanagement of Government affairs. Still you have failed to with overwhelming information, to make a “sound judgement” and “assessment” of the wrong doings during Mr. MR’s regime and talk unceasingly of the virtues of bringing back the “once tyrant” to life to run the Government. That makes me to QUESTION the CREDIBILITY and the QUALITY of those “Intellectuals” and “Scholars” that you mention to be “joining Mahinda”. I think we would be better without them.

I say Mahindapala, please consult a good psychiatrist in Australia for your RW phobia. First of all check your facts before overevaluating the bring back Mahinda clan. Mahinda is a political beggar and his set of promoters are political orphans who have nowhere to go if they don’t grip Alibaba’s Satakaya. Please check with Colombo University whether they conferred Emeritus Professorship to award winning pole vaulter Gerald Lakshman Pieris. [Edited out]

I think you may be confusing G.H.Peiris with G.L.Peiris.
The latter, once a law professor and dean at Univ. of Colombo, is a pole-vaulter without any principles. The former was a Geography professor at Peradeniya and I remember he was consistent in his anti-Tamil racism, so his promotion of the MR faction is hardly surprising.

Mr. Mahindapala & other “Intellectuals & Scholars”: I forgot to tell you that Mr. MR, your “Hero” publicly stated that even the man (a domestic)cutting “Kurumba” (young coconut) at his house has gone against him. Are you guys “below” that level to understand the reality? Mr. Mahindapala, perhaps you are more “qualified” to replace that domestic or you can get some one of your “intellectuals” or “scholars” to fill that vacancy, so that you all are more closer to him and can do a greater service than on this “remote control” mode. Please think about my suggestion. Thank you.

What a stupid article. Intellectuals joining MR is the joke of the year. [Edited out]pala is in the last stages of dementia. Please CT, do not allow your website to be contaminated with garbage like this from the pala. Another professor with the [Edited out] name just shows the level of low intellect that these so called professors have. Good for the low standards in Sri Lanka but in the international scene these professors are lightweights who get into academia because they know that they cannot be successful in the real world. Examples are GLP and RW who were able to bluff the young naive students with their so called knowledge but when sent out to bat get out first ball. Complete political failures who have to live off the crumbs dispensed by the despots.
