“The PM said that he thought that the President was really concerned about what happened to her when her present term ended. The Ambassador said he believed that was correct, but that there was an additional factor. From his conversations with the President, he said, he believed the underlying motivation for her actions was to send a message that she would not be treated in the last two years of her Presidency as she was in the preceding two years. PM accepted this, but said that if she wanted Ministers to treat her with respect, she also had to treat them properly.” the US Embassy Colombo informed Washington.
The Colombo Telegraph found the related leaked cable from the WikiLeaks database. The classified diplomatic cable details a meeting the US ambassador had with then Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The “Confidential” is cable signed by the US Ambassador to Colombo Jeffrey J. Lunstead on January 12, 2004.

Chandrika as come back kid MUST be the next president of Sri Lanka – Hopefully she’ll be a wiser and better prez than last time around!
After all, she’s all we’ve got – not because she’s so great but the alternatives are far worse – Ranil or Jarpassa or the moron Sajith over my dead body!.
Hope CBK is wiser this time around, restore the Jarapassa guttered democratic institutions and ensure reconcilliation and peace with justice for the minorities. She is the only one who can turn Lanka around at this time, and the best to do so and this time – and leave a worthwhile legacy.

You cant wonders coming into the reality even if she would get back to the power. Right at the moment, they the bunch in power have made the country a debtor for the eternity. Change of their rule is mandatory. In that efforts, she can play a great role. But RW should be the next leader of the nation. CBK can help him. There, she is the only person to defeat the oligarchy of Rajapakshe clan. Sobitha thero will have to lead the nation making them clear about the need of the change from a highly corrupted administration to a rule where law and order will have to be the top of the nature. All criminals, shenanigans worked for MR admin should be brought before the courts and punished them according to the prevailing laws and new reforms of the laws.

To get respect, one has to give respect to others. One can not demand respect. RW practices what he preaches. The only Non-Confrontational Politician. That is why, his fiercest of critics do not hurl abuse at RW as they do to CBK and MR. He is no rogue and a murderer as others are famous for. Once when some one complained that he has been compared to the tail of the dog, RW pacified the complainant that if he was the tail, RW should be the Dog and not to take such insults seriously.

Gamini, agree with you on your other observations about RW excepting that he ‘not being a murderer’. Have you forgotten the Batalanda Slaughter House headed by Douglas Pieris?
/
Pandukabaya / December 30, 2013
Batalanda was only an allegation.
RW would never commit such carnage.
If batalanda was true Chandrika with JVP then and Mara with Gothaya now, would have done their best see that RW is no more.
Ranil must be the next President.
Chandrika could join Ranil but certainly not as President.
Bankrupt SLFP must be dismantled.
When Mara falls his name must be permanantly erased from every thing and rename every state owned properties.
Rest rest of the goond should be locked behind bars till they vanish like Slobadan Mlasovic along with Pacha peries and Sarath Nondi Silva.

Pandu, Where had you been ?
Long time no see.
I think the way it is moving is not nice for the Rulers.

Lanka Muslim,
All of us know the country went through a turbulent period where the so called innocent JVP massacred Politicians and so many civilians in the country. So naturally, Law and Order had to be maintained and counter measures had to be adopted for the violence unleashed on the society. I do not doubt for a moment that RW had personal agendas to murder any, as some of the other UNP stalwarts. Besides RW was not in charge of Defence. So to heap blame and accuse him of being in charge of Torture Chambers, is a little too far fetched for a personality as RW. Why, do you see RW as such a character? If RW has that kind of violence in him, believe me, he would have by now toppled MR.
There is a Sinhala proverb, ‘ Kiyanna kesey kiuwath, asanna sihibuddhiyen asiya uthui’. No matter how the narrator makes it colourful the listner should be mindful in believing.

Demise of CBK was a great thing for Sri Lanka. Many people were relieved when she left after two terms.
CBK & her family had been riding a wave of power, luxury & corruption. All based on her Dad’s name. She could have never achieved nothing on her own merits. Only thanks to dumb & stupid Sri Lankan electorate.
Unfortunately CBK was replaced by the largest ever family clan in Sri Lanka’s history. The Rajapassa clan.
Sri Lanka is truly cursed with these people.

CBK´s was thousand times better than rule of current thugs.
By 2005, CBK´s govts had purchased all high tech weapons to fight the war that the born murderers later made use of elemination the LTTErs from the country. Circumstances were totally different then than it is for the people and country today. It was not magics of MR that liberated the nation from terror; to that point in time, LTTE per se was paralized by loosing their political power; their Balasingam and other leaders had become very weakened; Lanken regime in power had succeeded get LTTE banned almost every powerful soils- we should be indebted to late Kadirgamar for the mamooth service that his minitry rendered in that great effort. Apart from that- econimists (not me or any other simple simons) compare the facts and figures of the economy of her regimes with those of MR. Srilanken alone has made billions of debts. External politics under her was not the best, but multiple times better than those of today- this proved how the ICs donated the Tsunami hit nation in the first quarter of 2005. The US govts had reiterated all these – telling that world that CBK´s foreign policy was instrumental lankens to get that much of funds. But current rulers even embazzeled those funds for their own sakes, in the same time spreading all abusive untruths about CBK. Victor iwan is gone to dumb to this day – even if his sharp critics polarised among the nation MR to consolidate power in thier abusive nature. I think – the level of corruption that we experience in the country today – under the lead of MR is seen no times in the past. He is a good actor – and very IRC type- even worst than Premada senior. All these should be wisely focused by general public if they ever want to see nations to raise their head.

If people of this country – I mean average ones – should respect MR and the rulers to the manner – we got to see Mandela was honoured, if MR ´s genuine efforts solely led the country be free from terror.
In a radio program, by which they the moderators enquired about what the average has to say about their national heros: None of the callers to the live program came with the view-Rajapskshe should be given all credit as a war hero – until just one caller who was in the opinion that the soldiers should be our heros – but no body else for the freedom that the folks enjoy today, none of the callers mentioned any others.
This live session could be considered as a neutral outcome of an opinion poll across the nation. – That gives us hint that PEOPLE in General have no faith in rulers as the state media deliberately make efforts to paint that picture in favour of them.

Can you please imagine his situation inthe country today ? Why to play with words deliberately putting him down ?- why not you try to be introspective or thoughtful about the avalanche of the problems that the nation due to the ill administration of MR clan face today ? He must not act as a ACTOR – kissing and cuddling small babies of the poor, but his politics will pave the way for them to raise their head ; latter he will make for sure.
Why should everyone of you put the blame on RW for all the destiny that his party experienced in the course of last two decades ?. How many of the potential leaders died by being caught to terror acts during the last two-three decades inthe country (Gamini disanayaka, Lalith Athu, Premadasa, Ranajan Wije and many others) ? If one would expect RW to be perfect by his nature, in the same time, why the very same fraction would not see the brutal failures made and being made by MR clan right at the moment ? Is that at all fair to judge inthis way ?
RW could leave the party and the country long back now if he wanted to run a luxury life being on the west, how people defarmate him for all mistakes done by the party politicians incl murderous politics played by Premadasa senior is that at all fair ? Did not he prove his clean politics within the short period given to him under CBK ? Those who feel Premadasa Junior to take up the lead should raise the question what the guy proved sofar ? Political maturity is a must to lead the nation – how would Premadasa junior bring that in case he would be given the chance ?
I truly believe RW is the last troika that deserves to be the next leader of the nation by abolishing the EP and bringing a nation friendly, peoples friendly locally made new consititution. His knowledge and maturity in lanken politics will succeed his agenda. People out should learn to respect him for alone for his accountablity and transparency issues. And fact that he would never be promoting the nepatism – that has infected to the core in the country today. If one would listen to him the way how he would solve economic problems int eh coutnry today – is comprehesiblle to any thinkable person.

Chandrika had already missed the greatest opportunity when she was elected President. It is useless for her to expect when Ranil wanted the ethnic problem to be solved peacefully after the signing of the bogus CFA. She hailed to realize that the signing of the CFA was a diplomatic move. Give Ranil a chance.
