Women In Sweden Wear Headscarves After Muslim Woman Is Assaulted

Swedish women have been posting photos of themselves in traditional Muslim headscarves in solidarity with a woman attacked apparently for wearing a veil.

The attacker reportedly tore off the pregnant woman’s hijab and hit her head against a car. The victim’s friends told local media that the assailant also shouted racist insults at her.

The victim told the police she believes it was a faith-based hate crime.

The “hijab outcry” campaigners urged the government to “ensure that Swedish Muslim women are guaranteed the right to… religious freedom”

Many posted pictures of themselves in headscarves using the hashtag #hijabuppropet (hijab outcry) after a Muslim woman was the victim of an alleged hate crime.

      Sweden,

Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland are civilized Egalitarian countries, even though there are a few bad apples. They are nominally Lutheran, but only a few go to Church on Sundays.

This shows their Egalitarianism and Freedom. Signs of a civilized society.

Sri Lanka lost it’s opportunity to an Egalitarian and Civilized country, because of Sinhala Buddhism and Racism, Tamil Hinduism and Racism of Caste Systems. The presence of Christians and Muslims did not matter much. The riots and the 30 year civil war was primarily and almost exclusively between the the Sinhala Buddhist Racists and Monk Hegemony and the Hindu Tamil Racists.

There were two Egalitarian Sri Lanka Parties, Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP) and the Communist Party (CP). Unfortunately they sold out their Egalitarianism for Sinhala Buddhist Racism in 1970′, for ministerial portfolios,. There was nowhere to go for the Tamil Egalitarians other than for separation. This was recognized by the JVP and attacked these RACIST OPPORTUNISTS.

you can criticize middle east when you stop begging them for foreign aid or after getting back 200,000 sinhalese who work as servants in that region . till them your point has no valid. there are more than 52 muslim countries in the world. and majority of them have no war. that alone proves islam is indead the religion of peace. country such as malaysia turkey , oman , UAE for example experiencing economic boom. do you know the most of the countries in the middle east have far less crime , rape per person compare to any western country ? if islam is not the religion of peace then why islam is the fastest growing religion in the western world by conversion of white people who give up their luxury life? why not go do some research on the net rather than being a BS keyboard worrior? funny you mentioned about egyptians killing each other coz not long ago it’s the case in your so called Buddhist contry where people killed each other during JVP /LTTE war.

Lester the Lunatic :) :) :) in the garb of a woman, understandably so cos his ideas presented under numerous previous avatars have invoked neither violence nor hatred against Muslims.

He then tried under the pseudo name ” I am no Muslim” that too hasn’t worked.

In desperation he thinks a woman’s name might get him a wee bit of attention.

Women are smarter than you think, and are usually very accommodating. Give up Lester and rise up as the true pantheon of racism

Firstly, the 30 year war was not about Sinhala Buddhists and Tamil Hindus. There were Sinhala Christians in the army and Christian Tamils in the LTTE. The LTTE did not give importance to any religion. LTTE leader V. Prabhakaran was himself considered a Methodist Christian and his focus was on a perceived liberation of Tamils (not Hindus). What about egalitarianism, freedom and civilization in Islamic countries. There is not even a semblance of tolerance in these countries that we find in Sri Lanka. The Muslims and Christians are existent in this country in large numbers because of this tolerance. You cannot say the same of Islamic countries. Thankfully, the Christian Western countries have now become egalitarian. History shows us the extent to which Christians and Muslims have treated other faiths. There are bad apples in Sri Lanka as well.

        Hay Boru Amaraya,
This man doesn’t know that there is no egalitarianism and freedom in Viking countries. There is no separation of Church and State in those countries. Evangelican Lutheran Bishops are not just nominated by Monarch, their salaries and pensions are regulated by law.

Article 2 of Norway’s constitution says: The Evangelical-Lutheran religion shall remain the official religion of the State. But nowhere in Sri Lanka constitution say Buddhism is the official religion.

They say “The Evangelical Lutheran religion will no longer be the state’s official religion,” from 15th June 2012. However, it stressed that “the Norwegian Church will continue to have a special basis in the constitution and the state will be built upon ‘our Christian and humanistic heritage’.”

But Article 92 can now be used subdue minorities. Which says,
“To senior official posts in the State may be appointed only Norwegian citizens, men or women, who speak the language of the Country”

Article 4 says Norway’s King shall at all times profess the Evangelical-Lutheran religion, and uphold and protect the same. But nowhere in Sri Lanka constitution say the President have to profess Buddhism.

Amaraya should get his brain washed to lean the truth.

          I am no Muslim, Buddhist,

Amarasiri’s brain is not full of Myths, is being constantly updated, and there is no need to flood with unproven Myths

Amrarasiri did not do individual research on each Scandinavian country. Assumed, your research on Norway is true. If so, there is no true Separation of Church and State for Norway, unlike for USA, France and Turkey.

Can you do your research for Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland as well? Other EU countries?

Then can start a movement to make constitutions religious dogma free.

Amarasiri will continue to point out the myths of the religions. Buddhism, Christianity Islam Hinduism etc. Do you have proof for any of them myths of the above?

Just painting Children’s books at the Daham Pasela, Sunday School Madrassa etc., will not cut it.

      Yehiya and Other Muslims,

You need to know what the Quran and Islam says about the Hijab. Asks women to Draw their veils over their Bosoms only(24:31). Discard what the so-called Scholars have been promoting for their own self interest and tribal hegemony in the Hadith and other writings.

Excerpts from “No God but God by Reza Aslan” Chapter 8.( ISBN 978-0-385-73975-7)

“Muhammad. completely upended the social order for Muslim women’s i inheritance and divorce rights that their European and Christian counterparts could not enjoy for another thousand years. But perhaps the greatest change he made to the status of women was in curtailing the practice of polygamy”

” Unfortunately, not long after Muhhamad’s death, many of the radical advances in women’s rights that he had spent his life and ministry advocating were systematically undermined by his own followers”

Absolutely, Amerasiri. Islam, does not say cover your head.

However, how a women dresses/covers herself is between her and her God.

          Point of View,

“However, how a women dresses/covers herself is between her and her God.:

          And her God.

The extremists, the Wahhabis, Salafis, the Deobandis and the Muslim Brotherhood have interpreted her God as being them and their Scholars.

That is where the problem lies.

The same problem Sinhala Buddhism has with BBS.

Most Muslims apart from the Labels attached believe in their Islamic creed (Akeedah). One of the beauties of Islam is the diverse views of the Islamic scholars as long as they keep to the core values of the Noble Quran and the Authentic Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH).

The answer to Hijab lies in one of the verses in the Qur’an pertaining to this topic is found in Chapter 33, verse 59, where believing women are instructed to cover: ‘O Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful. (The Noble Qu’ran 33:59)’

‘That they will be recognised.’ Not inconspicuous, not hidden, certainly not silent. Known. Hijab, to Muslim women, is a uniform. Perhaps not in the school-uniform sense (shudder), but in the professional sense: an outfit or style of dress worn to identify members according to their role. The role on this earth is as a servant of God and the hijab should tell you that. It should also tell us that when the Muslim women put it on, is a statement, and a reminder of who they are and what they stand for and what they are here to do.

              Maghribi,

“That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful. (The Noble Qu’ran 33:59”

Abdullah Yusuf Ali notes on the Verse 33:59

Foot Note 3764: “They, women, were asked to cover themselves with outer garments when walking.”

Foot Note 3765: “Jilbab, plural Jilabib, an outer garment” a long gown covering the whole body, or a cloak covering the nrxk and bosom” – Would a Saree with a jacket qualify? The saree qualified for a 1,000 years in South Asia. Is it the Arab cultural imperialism that is at play here?

Foot Note 3766: “The object was not to restrict the liberty of women but to protect them harm and molestation”

However, these days, the one needs very good rape proof chastity belts.

This sentence is only for selected women- wives of prophet etc. At that time they were harassed because they were Prophet’s wives etc. So they were advised to wear the abaya to protect them. Now it is the reversal. If you wear the Abaya ( and nikab) you are harrassed, so do you think that at the moment Muslim women should be asked not to wear hijab/abaya and nikab

Therawada Buddhist has one Tripitaka and it has only one interpretation. It is explained very clearly in the likes of 1500 year old Visuddhimagga and many other ancient books. Yes, it is good to call a spade, a spade.

              1. Not,Theravada Buddhists, ONLY Sinhala Buddhists? Monks?

              2. Not Mahyana Buddhists, ONLY Sinhala Buddhists? Monks?

              3. Not,Christian Sinhala, ONLY Sinhala Buddhists? Monks?

              4. Not,Tamil Buddhists, ONLY Sinhala Buddhists? Monks?

              5. Not Indian Buddhists, ONLY Sinhala Buddhists? Monks?

              6. Not Karave Buddhists, ONLY Govigama Sinhala Buddhists? Govigama Monks?

So, Sinhala Buddhism is not a religion, is not a philosophy, it is Sinhala Racism, painted with a thing layer of Theravada Buddhism?

Logic and reason points to the above conclusion, and the core cause of the separatist war, and Sinhala Buddhist Monk Hegemony.

Do you know the Enlightened Buddhas teachings?

“BBS and the likes only look after the interests of Sinhala Buddhist.”

Whether Amaraya, WOGS, Colombians and the likes like it or not, monks in Sri Lanka will look after interests of the Sinhala Buddhists. That’s the way it has been for over two thousand years since start of Mahavihara. There are no Karawa etc; once you are in mahavihara into tradition you become one of them. Its like french legioneers. Show us rift if you can.

They all sit together for Dhamma and other discussions without even harangue. But, you can have your imaginations. There had been people like you through out history. Don Juan is just one of them. It is to face people like you Mahawamsa was written and the like of BBS is arisen.

No Wahabism or Salafists in Sri Lanka, nor are individuals or groups influenced by it, largely it is a myth promoted by anti-Islamic countries and some communities that follow deviant and un-Islamic ideologies in Sri Lanka and elsewhere. Those who have lived and worked in Saudi Arabia would know better.

Amaraya is teaching the Wahhabis the Koran. Only a stupid like Amaraya doesn’t know that the Wahhabis interpretation of the Koran insist all women cover themselves like a gonibilla and they walk with a chaperon. We all know that on going Muslim against Muslim fight is for the establishment of interpretations of the Koran.

            I am no muslim-Buddhist,

Amarasiri is challenging the Wahhabis to reason that ONLY their interpretation of Quran is correct.

This is a debate. Need to come up with citations and credible references from the Quran and data supporting the Wahhabi arguments.

Wahhabi Fatuwas will not cut with Amarasiri.

BBS Mara shit will also not cut it. Need credible references from the Tipitaka or credible Jataka Kathas.

            WOMEN IN BUDDHISM
I asked several Sinhala Buddhists about Kamma and the storage of Kamma. Both Kamma and Rebirth are interrelated, fundamental doctrines in Buddhism.

I was told that when a man accumulated Bad Kamma, he goes to a lower level, and can be reborn as a women or even a lower animal.

Will the current BBS monks who are accumulating Bad Kamma, be reborn as women, and in turn be molested by the new set of BBS and Sinhala Ravya Monks? Will they be reborn with chastity belts?

Just curious. The Tipitaka is too large to read.

Quran does not speak about covering the head. It is only covering the bosom. Why is this over emphasise of the Abaya and Hijab

        • 0
          0

          Salmaj,

“Why is this over emphasise of the Abaya and Hijab?”

          Reasonable Answers:

          1. Mullah, Ulema, Cleric, and Tribal Hegemony.

          2. Going back to the tribal traditions,

          3. Removing the Egalitarian reforms of prophet Mohamed.

In fact the Ulema and religious scholars went so far as to downgrade Natural Philosophy, investigation and reason below, revelation as interpreted by the Ulama, leading to the decline of Islamic Science.

Did any Islamic Ulema earn a Nobel Price? Madras and Religious Universities that memorized the Quran and Hadith all day long, that can be down loaded to a flash drive will not cut it.

      Yehya,

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madrasa

      Madrassa and Women

Madrasa (Arabic: مدرسة‎, madrasah pl. مدارس, madāris) is the Arabic word (of Semitic origin; viz Hebrew midrash) for any type of educational institution, whether secular or religious (of any religion). It is variously transliterated as madrasah, madarasaa, medresa, madrassa, madraza, madarsa, medrese, etc. In English the word normally specifically means any type of religious school or college for the study of the Islamic religion, though this may not be the only subject studied. Today, 20,000 Madrassas educate over 1.5 million students per year.[1]

Women played an important role in the foundations of many Islamic educational institutions, such as Fatima al-Fihri’s founding of the University of Al Karaouine in 859. This continued through to the Ayyubid dynasty in the 12th and 13th centuries, when 160 mosques and madrasas were established in Damascus, 26 of which were funded by women through the Waqf (charitable trust) system. Half of all the royal patrons for these institutions were also women.[66]

According to the Sunni scholar Ibn ʻAsākir in the 12th century, there were opportunities for female education in the medieval Islamic world, writing that women could study, earn ijazahs (academic degrees), and qualify as scholars and teachers. This was especially the case for learned and scholarly families, who wanted to ensure the highest possible education for both their sons and daughters.[67] Ibn ʻAsakir had himself studied under 80 different female teachers in his time. Female education in the Islamic world was inspired by Muhammad’s wives, such as Khadijah, a successful businesswoman. According to a hadith attributed to Muhammad, he praised the women of Medina because of their desire for religious knowledge:[68]

“How splendid were the women of the ansar; shame did not prevent them from becoming learned in the faith.”

To the spineless Swede who obviously has Sinha ley. It is difficult for people who live in the jungle to understand that the civilized world stands for the principle than the individual.

Whatever Swedish women think of Islam is not at issue here. It is about the right to choose. The French too have learned the hard way that the banning of the Hijab has made most Muslim women defiant and they have started wearing as a mark of protest

In other words, Sri Lanka is a land where we don’t know right from wrong and left from right, where every-thought is seen through a racist prism, this kind of collective action where people stand up for the right of one individual is incomprehensible to the local yakos. So Buddhists obviously cannot be expected to understand this concept of standing up for rights.

      Benjamin,

Still, in Islam you need to go by the Quaran, not Scholars and TV interpreters. Quran requires modesty, not covering from head to toe and be locked up. In Quran women have a life to live too, but not according to the Mullahs and Ulemas tribal interpretation.

You need to know what the Quran and Islam says about the Hijab. Asks women to Draw their veils over their Bosoms only(24:31). Discard what the so-called Scholars have been promoting for their own self interest and tribal hegemony in the Hadith and other writings.

“Koran 52:17-20, 22 says”, there is nothing there .Is your reference correct, or do do have a different Koran with different chapters?

This women treatment comes from Judaism and Christianity to Islam, but it is my understanding prophet Mohammed tried to correct it along with the tribal traditions that were very bad for women. Later on the tribal customers took over and pushed aside Prophet Mohammed’s Egalitarian reforms.

The same with Hinduism and Buddhism. Women are the property of man. Buddha despised the women.Wanted the monks to have nothing to do with the women. (Except the BBS and some other Sinhala Buddhist Monks)

What does Buddhism and Buddha say about women?pages 154-160. Excerpts

          1. Master, asks Ananda from Buddha, “how shall we behave before women?”-You should shun their gaze, Ananda.

2.”But if we see them. master, what then are we to do?”- Not speak to them, Ananda”

          3. “But if we do speak to them, what then?”-Then, you watch over yourselves, Ananda”

          Women were abhorred in Buddhism.

I have a hard copy of the first edition of ‘The Buddha and his Teachings’ by Narada. What is exactly written in page 147 of that book is; “How are we to conduct ourselves, Lord, with regard to womankind?”

You have rewritten that phrase as “how shall we behave before women?” Needless to say, there is a vast difference in the meaning of the correct phrase and what you have rewritten. I say, you wrote it in such a way that you can give your own meaning to Buddha’s words.

Authentic first edition says, “Be watchful” And you have added your own words to it to give the meaning you want. “… Then, you watch over yourselves, Ananda”

Most importantly, you have missed to include the context that Ven Narada had immediately added after that. Ven Narada wrote in page 148 that it is a general exhortation given to monks so that they may constantly be watchful in their dealings with women. Shame on you Amaraya.

What does Buddhism and Buddha say about women?pages 154-160. Excerpts are from Coommeraswamy.

              Ananda K Coommaraswamy, Printed Feb , 1916.

Amarasiri has the New Edition 2012 by NARADA , but it says 14th July, 2522, 1980, Vajirarma, Colombo 5.

Amarasiri quoted Coommaraswamy, because it was printed in 1916, and was bought from a Buddhist Bookshop. So, the assumption is that it was less tainted by the Sinhala Buddhist Racism and Chauvinism in Sri Lanka over the past 95 years, and because the Author was a well recognized Indian philosophy and religion “Expert”.

What errors were introduced during 400 years of oral transmissions before writing it is unknown. However, that is what is there and has to be taken at face value.

However, the fact remains, the Buddhists and Buddhas Teaching consider women to be of low grade, below men. Men will become women when they accumulate bad Kamma and even become animals in the next birth.

With regards to the educated class of women in particular in our country..I strongly believe it is they who will teach the lesson our spineless men have failed to teach our bigots, like the Balu Bala crowd, Nanasaras, and other saffron clad toddy thugs and their Vithanage type scoundrels.

Look at how much Hon. Rosy Senanayake has attempted to do.. Se was sidelined by the speaker etc..but we need more women in the game! They are our only hope, while our men have gone to the adulterated bottles.

You know anything about solidarity? This is what it is. Mow Sweden will show openly the strength of the Muslim population. They is a show of defiance against racism. The same thing is what The BBS will do to the Sri Lanka Muslim women. Never will this be possible through lectures and teachings. It takes just one racist and look at the outcome.

      Sahana,

The story there is the Military attacking the democratically elected Muslim Brotherhood, who were trying to be dictatorial and positioning themselves for power and turn into a theocracy, which the people did not vote for.

The vast majority of secular Muslims and the Copt Christians do not want that.

So the Brotherhood is attacking all their enemies, the Military, the police, the secular opponents and of course the Copt Christians.

Had the Christians supported the Brotherhood, they would have kissed them.

While in no way downplaying the terrible events of the holocaust, such a massacre does not compare to the severity to the torture and murder that took place under Papal authority during the 605 years of the Inquisition. From the beginning of the Papacy, until the present time, it is estimated by credible historians that more than 50,000,000, men and women have been slaughtered for the crime of heresy charged against them by Papal Rome. In which John Green teaches you about European Imperialism in the 19th century. European powers started to create colonial empires way back in the 16th century, but businesses really took off in the 19th century, especially in Asia and Africa. During the 1800s, European powers carved out spheres of influence in China, India, and pretty much all of Africa. While all of the major (and some minor) powers in Europe participated in this new imperialism, England was by far the most dominant, once able to claim that the “sun never set on the British Empire.” Also, they went to war for the right to continue to sell opium to the people of China. Twice. John will teach you how these empires managed to leverage the advances of the Industrial Revolution to build vast, wealth-generating empires. As it turns out, improved medicine, steam engines, and better guns were crucial in the 19th century conquests. Also, the willingness to exploit and abuse the people and resources of so-called “primitive” nations was very helpful in the whole enterprise.

West is a bastian of democracy, free speech, freedom of sexual orientation, freedom to dress, freedom to practice religon etc So why not an innocuous head scarf or hijab? After all public nudity is allowed in Sweden. So is it a crime to cover ones hair? So it is very good that a section of Swedish Society have come forward to defend their muslim brothers and sisters.

Islamophobia is a hate crime directed against Muslims and Islam. The phsychology of hate is the subject of much research and discussion. Hate is a mental sickness afflicting our minds. If we can realise that we are sick then we will be able find the cure. The islamophobe and the extremist are both suffering from the same disease.

“THE ROLE OF COGNITION IN HATRED
When we consider the amount of violence between family members, the tragedy of the two World Wars and themany local ones, terrorist attacks or the genocides we have seen happen, we become aware that the harm that humans can do to each other represents a serious threat to us. Theorists from Freud to the present day have faced the difficult task of understanding the reason for hatred and violence(Post, 2005). In recent decades, the cognitive-behavioural perspective has provided a useful explanation, and the hope that it may lead to strategies for prevention and intervention.

    ………………..

“Hatred is related to other psychological constructs. It may be motivated by feelings of envy, or jealousy. Intelligent people are not excluded from feeling hatred, despite it being a useless feeling, and harming the very person who hates.

Stalin and Milosevic certainly were smart people, despite unleashing planned and conscious massacres. It does not seem compatible with wisdom, because this always involves a balance between personal and interpersonal interests, serves the common good and transcends individual interests. People involved in feelings of hatred that cause harm to others intentionally, are not able to experience those feelings
of inter and intra personal appreciation..”

Way to go! Wonderful, wonderful, Swedish women! Even I am not 100% in support of veiling (for a no. of reasons that i wont elaborate on now), but the enforcement of a ban of this nature is calculated to provoke resentment in the Muslim community.

I shudder at total veiling. Have often wanted to ask a woman who is covered from head to toe, wearing gloves, with only a net for vision, would she prefer to at least have her face uncovered, & doesnt she think it unfair that in a country like Saudi Arabia, she wd be forced to wear hot, heat absorbing BLACK, while men swan around, elegant & cool in heat-reflecting white.

But 2 days ago an almost totally black-veiled woman, in front of me,
in a heavenly cake shop, ws trying to attract the very unhelpful female assistant’s attention. Guessing at her her despair I went fwd & demanded attention for her. She turned to me & at that moment I ws quite overwhelmed. “What beautiful eyes you have!” I said to her. And she smiled, & I saw her long, natural eye lashes flicker.

She was STUNNING! Just enough of her was revealed in that “window” to show her eyes & a border of a fine complexioned skin around them.

I guess if I had eyes like that, I wd be quite happy, if it werent too hot, to throw a hijab over my untidy houseworking clothes to dash out on an errand, knowing I STILL might rate a few admiring glances & courteous help from some admiring male. Little wonder if her EYES are so mesmerising, her men folk prefer her to be veiled when she goes out alone!

about 50 years ago someone gave me a wonderful full skirted gown up to the neck, worn by Arab women. I wound a scarf around my head and neck & accompanied 2 men friends to a small arty cinema. Everyone thought we were 3 gays & I had to decline a couple of invitations! That was before the GLF (Gay Lib Front) was launched in England, tho when it was, its main mover (an undergrad at LSE) came to live in my flat as he couldnt get accomodation easily elsewhere…another kind of intolerance. A delightful, quiet, no aggressive person, tragically he was murdered some years later when he surprised someone in the middle of burgling his flat late at night, somewhere in middle Europe,.

At the risk of CT cutting me out for going on too long–writing this has made me think about acquiring a hijab for myself! If not too costly. Just the thing to throw over when dashing out for a moment. Damn good idea! I once went out here a few years ago in a short one from Afghanistan. It has a net for the face — terrible. Put it on in the car as we were going along…my driver nearly crashed into the car in front.

The pool childtrens bains are satitated with the quran and hadeith and no room lefy for invrstigation and reason.

This has been going on for 1,200 years.

        How to stop it?

        1. Put a limit. They can brainwash only 10% of the time. So, 1 hour per day brainwash with the Quran and Hadith, 9 hrs per day in Science, Natural philosophy, math etc etc.

        Until then, no hope.

Have the anti Govt, anti Sinhala Buddhist brigades here resorted to Homosexual bashing too?.

Here is what one such commentator said. ” Ponna Men of the CT defending violence and racism”…..

Ponnaya is a derogatory term for men with homosexual tendencies,

It is the equivalent of the term Poofter which the Diaspora readers here must be familiar with.

Prestige capitals in the West such as Paris down to down under Christch have legalised marriage between same sex.

London has or is going to join them too.

Which is great news for a lot of people including our Srilankans who have taken refuge in these Western countries.

A lot of mainstream TV media such as BBC, ABC, SBS and even some Private channels have well know personalities who live as same sex couples

Some top entertainers are gay people too.

And our avowed, Human Right protectors , who want nothing but all good for our inhabitants , call them Ponnayas.

    Hi Amarasiri,

When did you become a (Singhala) Mullah to tell Muslims what the Quran tells about Hijab and/or dress code for women? What pathetic situation for Muslims to listen to Singkala Mullah?

    • 0
      0

      Ahmed Nadavi,

“When did you become a (Singhala) Mullah to tell Muslims what the Quran tells about Hijab and/or dress code for women? “

The same argument given by the Church 500 years ago, when Martin Luther translated the Bible to German. Just discuss the issue at hand, instead of clouding it and saying that person is a Shia, Sunni, Wahhabi, Buddhist or Christian. Does the Sun go around the Earth or the Earth around the Sun?

      1. So, you must be a Mullah, Ulama, or Cleric becoming very concerned about your exclusive right to interpret the Quran and Hadith monopoly. In this day and age, Amarasiri and others have access to more or less the same materials the current Mullahs have access to who wants to keep their Hegemony. Same with Buddhist Monks and Christian Priests attempts to maintain their hegemony.

      2. In this internet age, the scriptures and their translations are widely available, and the Ulema and Mullahs have no place to hide.

Let me quote from No God but God from Reza Aslan, page 139.
      Three major Developments.

      1. The First, the unprecedented rate at which the Quran has been translated over the last half-century. Large numbers of Muslim Laity and others, especially women, are increasingly brushing aside centuries of traditionalist, male-dominated, and often misogynistic clerical interpretation in favor of individualized and gender-neutral reading of the Quran. All over the world, Muslims are stripping away centuries of accumulated clerical interpretation in favor of a return to the original founding texts of Islam.

      2. The Second, the rapid influx of Muslim immigrants into Europe and North America.

      3. The Third, and perhaps most important, development is, of course, the invention of the internet, which has made it possible for Muslims to draw upon the opinions not only of their own clerical leaders, but also of a host of Muslim activists, academics, and even lay leaders who are propounding fresh and innovative interpretations of Islam, some with messages of peace, others with messages of violence.

Want to what happened 800 years ago, when only the Mullahs interpreted Islam, and downgraded Investigation and Reason below Revelation interpretation by Mullahs. Decline of Islamic Science.

        Amarasiri, the Egalitarian,

I have been observing your blogs and arguments with different mind set people. A small question to you. ‘If you happen to live during Lord Budda’s time or Jesus Christ’s time or Mohamed’s time or Lord Krishna’s time, what would have been your Perceptions ? These people were talking about many mythical things that (suppose)going to happen. You are an Egalitarian, who doesn’t believe mythical unproven theories. Will you follow these religious leaders or rebel against them at that time?

        Give clear answer.

          Kayal,

“Will you follow these religious leaders or rebel against them at that time?”

This is very good question, if Amarasiri happened to live 1,500 to 3,000 years ago, he would have been versed in the Early Greek and Islamiv Philosophies.

Amarasiri would have looked at investigation, reason, and data to sort it out, and would have remained agnostic, until proven correct. If Amarasiri had been born 3,000 years ago, he would still be waiting for data and proof of Nirvana,Nibbana, Sansara, Rebirth, Heaven, Limbo and Purgatory, Original sin etc.

Still waiting… In the meantime, the Earth moves around the Sun and rotates on its own axis.

          1.Ancient Greek philosophy

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Greek_philosophy

Many philosophers today concede that Greek philosophy has influenced much of Western thought since its inception. Alfred North Whitehead once noted: “The safest general characterization of the European philosophical tradition is that it consists of a series of footnotes to Plato.”[1] Clear, unbroken lines of influence lead from ancient Greek and Hellenistic philosophers to Early Islamic philosophy, the European Renaissance and the Age of Enlightenment.

          2.Early Islamic philosophy

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_Islamic_philosophy

Early Islamic philosophy or classical Islamic philosophy is a period of intense philosophical development beginning in the 2nd century AH of the Islamic calendar (early 9th century CE) and lasting until the 6th century AH (late 12th century CE). The period is known as the Islamic Golden Age, and the achievements of this period had a crucial influence in the development of modern philosophy and science; for Renaissance Europe, the influence represented “one of the largest technology transfers in world history.”.[1] This period starts with al-Kindi in the 9th century and ends with Averroes (Ibn Rushd) at the end of 12th century. The death of Averroes effectively marks the end of a particular discipline of Islamic philosophy usually called the Peripatetic Arabic School, and philosophical activity declined significantly in Western Islamic countries, namely in Islamic Spain and North Africa, though it persisted for much longer in the Eastern countries, in particular Persia and India where several schools of philosophy continued to flourish: Avicennism, Illuminationist philosophy, Mystical philosophy, and Transcendent theosophy.

Some of the significant achievements of early Muslim philosophers included the development of a strict science of citation, the isnad or “backing”; the development of a method of open inquiry to disprove claims, the ijtihad, which could be generally applied to many types of questions (although which to apply it to is an ethical question); the willingness to both accept and challenge authority within the same process; recognition that science and philosophy are both subordinate to morality, and that moral choices are prior to any investigation or concern with either; the separation of theology (kalam) and law (shariah) during the early Abbasid period, a precursor to secularism;[2] the distinction between religion and philosophy, marking the beginning of secular thought; the beginning of a peer review process; early ideas on evolution; the beginnings of the scientific method, an important contribution to the philosophy of science; the introduction of temporal modal logic and inductive logic; the beginning of social philosophy, including the formulation of theories on social cohesion and social conflict; the beginning of the philosophy of history; the development of the philosophical novel and the concepts of empiricism and tabula rasa; and distinguishing between essence and existence.

            Amarasiri,

We know you are a good researcher in the net and you love to search things in Wikipedia and other sources in the net.

But, you have not answered my question. Almost all religious leaders said many things that are going happen during their time. The followers accepted all sayings as true and lived and died. They did not have this modern sources like Wikipedia to verify the (mythical) theories of their teachers. Neither they have scientific proofs like what you have of the present age.

You say “if Amarasiri happened to live 1,500 to 3,000 years ago, he would have been versed in the Early Greek and Islamiv Philosophies” and Amarasiri would have looked at investigation, reason, and data to sort it out, and would have remained agnostic, until proven correct.

            STRANGE !

The manner you are answering is like, If you were to live during the time of Jesus Christ, as he told that he will come back again to save this world, will you believe and follow him as other disciples or not. According to your argument, you will not follow until proven correct. Then you will die as a non-believer of Christianity, since it was not supposed to be verified at that time.

Similarly, Islam is a religion (not a philosophy as you said). Mohamed told what is going to happen in the future. If you were supposed to live at time, you would not had the luxury of verifying the mythical theories at that time. Believing or not is up to you. Quran says,(for an example) “there is a barrier between two sections of a sea. One section will not overlaps the other”. As an egalitarian, you would not had believed during Mohamed’s time. But, now science says, it is correct. There is a barrier and tastes of the sea water differs these two sides.

Amarasiri, you are talking about the developments of later part of different religious civilizations. This is not the subject here. Your need to come with proper argument! All religions have contributed immensely for the advancement of Science. But Amarasiri sees everything vice-versa!

he gave life to dead bodies and cured blindness by miracles, how you would verify this. There was no scientific evidence or Wikipedia to support at that time. What is the purpose of investigating greek, hebrew

Then will you use your egalitarian mind to reason to search in non-existing wikipedia. Doesnot make sense.

Let me give you a small piece of advice as a more mature person in age than most of you all ,I believe so ,please permit me to state two examples & after that I want My Muslim brothers & sisters & the none Muslims who are free of prejudice to reflect upon it.

The notorious Francis “Two Gun” Crowley was an American murderer , The NYPD had a shoot out with him for nearly two hours somewhere in 1930’s, he was hiding in his girlfriend’s apartment, at last the NYPD got him,and as his blood flowed , and after the many murders he committed & just the day before he died, he was having a necking session in his car with his GF , when a unsuspecting young police officer walked up to the parked car and ask him to show his licence ,& guess what,Crowley just reached for his hand gun & shot the officer point blank without feeling any remorse & this cold blooded murderer at his last breathe too never felt regrets nor condemned himself, instead he wrote with his blood on a white sheet of paper , , “Under my coat is a weary heart, but a kind one — one that would do nobody any harm.”

Then there is another story where a famous author & his friend was an authority on Shakespeare’s work were invited by a famous man for a party , while seated and in a conversation a man suddenly quoted something & refereed it as a quote of Shakespeare , immediately the man who is an expert on Shakespeare’s work confronted the man and rejected it saying it is not of Shakespeare’s ,but here was a man stubborn ,arrogant & petty minded refuse to accept it & stood stupidly by his claim that he was correct, meanwhile as tension was mounting & a party where people have gathered to enjoy was almost going to be ruined & the host was about to be insulted, quickly the wise author, kicked his friend’s leg below the table & said to his friend ,oh you have got things mixed up ,indeed it is Shakespeare’s quote ,his friend was disappointed & upset, but remained silent & while a calm & peaceful atmosphere prevailed, the ignorant giddy headed fool, was so proud of himself , went about holding his stupid head high above ,& on the way back home the person who was an expert on Shakespeare’s work told his friend am disappointed in you ,you knew very well it was not Shakespeare’s quote & why did you admit & supported him, his reply was ,yes not only I knew it was not Shakespeare’s quote & you were right ,but most importantly, I also knew the depth of the man’s idiocy & ignorance & prejudice, I did not want to spoil our kind host’s party & the rest of the people’s good fun they were enjoying, for he is a fool who have made up his mind to live the rest of his life in ignorance till death over take him.

we come in contact everyday with people who are similar , the ones who have made up thier minds ,fools who will not admit thier mistakes, who will even walk a mile more to fabricate if they can to discredit you more, so ask your selves is it worth burning your energy , your precious time & of cause your money on the bandwidth to end up looking like a a emotional psycho ( matter of speaking)to a stubborn ignorant fool ,who will never in his life time till death will ever know he was a the pathetic ignorant fool?

Sure Sri Lanka is going to make it with such venomous fools around.

so simple when you see a stupid hate comment which you are fully aware is not true ignore it, like the famous idiotic monk who was screaming his head off stating that the Quran commands that Muslims should spit into food before they offer it to None Muslims, can you imagine, some of the people in our country, some who are even highly educated professionals worship such idiots? all it would take even a child to find out if it is true or
not is two minutes of google-

but no- there are a segment of the majority of this country whoz minds are made up, they can hear but are deaf, they can see but they are blind , so think about it..

Please share & Wear a و شاح الرأس(Head–و شاح (werasher-head including hair- isai scaff or covering ) also Khimar ul shar or Hijab ul shar)
    -)
Scarf- commonly known as Hijab) -traditional
    Muslim headscarves in solidarity ========================================
Please note it is not a Divine command ,but traditional, even though people should be respected & entitled to any form of dress & modest dressing should rather be encouraged & adopted,as much as most of us have adopted western clothing which is not akin to our culture. besides, it is now stylish & will protect your hair from pollution & a more practical way to cover your early graying, and even for some who have hair loss problem -it is better than taking those steroids-

    ———————————–
I sincerely hope some of our Sri Lankan sisters of all faiths will wear it just for a few hours & take some pictures and post it on thier FB to support the men &women of Sweden’s solidarity & send a message not just attack on Muslim women , but any sort of attack on any women will not be tolerated anywhere in the world,
Pls stand up f or justice on a common ground including men in reverence to the wombs that bore you..

        He can’t.

He is with 72 virgins. Besides modern day Muslim girls reject Arabs. They prefer Jews, Hispanics, Caucasians and African Americans.

        I am no muslim, Buddhist,

Women were abhorred in Buddhism. May be because they were Sakyas and Koliyas women. Didn’t the Master abandon Princes Yasodhara and son Rahula?

The question is, if Princes Yasodhara was as pretty as the hijab wearing women in the picture, even Prince Siddhattha may not have abandoned her, and the Master would have treated women differently.

What about Moses, Jesus, in addition to Prophet Mohammed? At least they they loved women.

        Ananda K Coommaraswamy, Printed Feb , 1916.
        http://www.amazon.com/Buddha-Gospel-Buddhism-Ananda-Coomaraswamy/dp/0766176304

What does Buddhism and Buddha say about women?pages 154-160. Excerpts. Women were abhorred in Buddhism.

        Women were abhorred in Buddhism.

      crazyoldmansl –

“if our sinhala buddhists had shown such solidarity with the tamils, we would not be in this mess today.”

It was Buddhism and Buddhist Monk Hegemony that messed things up in preventing Sri Lanka being an Egalitarian Society.

      1. Sri Lanka was Jain and Hindu Country before Buddhism.

      2. Bali Indonesia is 94% Hindu and peaceful. No Buddist Monk Hegemony.

      3. In Buddhism, they have the Triple Gems, the Trpitaka the Buddhist Laymen are supposed to worship.

Sri Lanka State needs to do their Job. Take care of Law and Order and deal with the yellow robed Buddhist Monk terrorists that has nothing to do with the Buddhism. They are exploiting Buddhism.

The Triple Gem? Make it Double Gem.

      1. Buddha OK he is was the founder

      2. Dhamma- the Teachings- OK Those are the teachings.

      3. Sangha. NOT OK. For the Sangha it is about Monk Hegemony- Monk Terrorism. Why the Hell do you need such Terrorist and Racist Sangha and pollute pristine Buddhist Teachings?

The Sangha like leaches are hanging on to Buddhism, and making laymen prostrate to them, the terrorists and criminals.

Would any of you can think of prostrating to the BBS yellow robed terrorists?

The Triple Gem? Make it Double Gem.

      1. Buddha. Period.

      2. Dhamma. Period.
