Rajapaksa ‘prince’ Yoshitha has made a request to be appointed as a member of the security team assigned to his father.
State Minister for Defence has stated that Yoshitha Rajapaksa has submitted a request to the Defence Ministry for him to be made part of the security team of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
However, he has taken three months leave of absence and an issue has raised on this matter by the JVP as an investigation is currently ongoing concerning his recruitment to the Navy and the scholarships that had been granted to him during the Rajapaska regime.
Ruwan Wijewardene had told media that a probe is being conducted into Yoshitha in collaboration with the Navy Commander on how he was relieved of duty and on how and why he was granted leave of absence without even being subjected to the inquiry that is continuing against him.

Hello Ben. The Defense Schools in the UK has a practice where they offer the children of Heads of States and Service Commanders scholarships to attend their programs. Yoshitha was one it’s beneficiaries.
Similarly, The then Army Commanders Gen Hamilton Wanasinghe’s son too was invited to Sandhurst.

My Question is how he got leave without MOD approval. His application should have go through Navy HQ to the MOD. this mean All including Navy commander and Sec to MOD is responsible for his Leave. Mr. Junior Minister: Please don’t “CON” us throwing wool over eyes, in saying that an investigation is being carried out as regards Mr. Yoshith’s “Recruitment” to the Navy and subsequent “scholarship” granted to him. There need not be any “INVESTIGATION” and if you say so, you are not equally qualified to hold that position in the Government. This is a simple matter that can be solved within a matter of “FEW HOURS” if not a “DAY”. Please do the following:
1. Write a “Ministerial Memo” to the Commander of the Navy and ask him to submit a report within “Twenty Four Hours” explaining:
(a) The Recruitment Procedure of the Navy. This will be readily available in print form and the Commander can attach that to his report.
2. Did Mr. Yoshitha comply or qualify in terms of the laid down entry qualifications? If NOT, “Why” and “Who” made the decision to recruit him?
3. What is the laid down criteria established. That too will be available in their “Manual of Procedures” and a copy of that can be attached to his reply.
4. Did Mr. Yoshitha qualify to enroll in that scholarship programme? If not “Why” and “Who” decided to enroll him in that programme?
5. As the Commander do you agree that this “RECRUITMENT” and “SELECTION” were in compliance with the policy of the Navy?
6. Who decided to relieve him of his duties and is it in keeping with the established rules?
7. Who and why he was granted to leave the country while there is a pending “inquiry”? Is it in keeping with the “Policy” of the Navy?
Do you, Mr. Junior Minister, think that there must be an “INVESTIGATION” to ascertain the above “FACTS”. I say again, please DO NOT, “CON” us. I know with experience, that matters of this nature could be and must be finalized within a “Few Hours”, if not a “Day” It is time for BOTH of you as the “Minister In-charge” and the Commander to get out of that “BOX” of “RED TAPES” and “PRIORITIZE” the work in hand. The people are getting impatient and a feeling that many of you are merely “CON ARTISTS” has begun to develop. Time is running out fast.
