Two weeks before large angry mobs attacked the warehouse of the Fashion Bug clothing store in Pepiliyana on Thursday (28) night, the Bodu Bala Sena group launched a tirade of verbal abuse against the Muslim owned textile chain at a massive rally in Kandy.

Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary and vociferous hardline monk, Galabodaaththe Gnanasara accused the clothing chains Fashion Bug and No Limit of forcibly converting Sinhalese women working at their stories into Islam.
“We have all the proof and information about the Fashion Bug and No Limit outlets and what they are doing to your girl children! What harm have we done to the Muslims?” Gnanasara Thero said.
Reading from a list of names the BBS General Secretary said they were Sinhalese men and women who had gone to work at Fashion Bug and No Limit in Kandy and been converted to Islam.
“We ask the big bosses at Fashion Bug and No Limit, is this true or not? They claim it’s not true. Oh the poor little pussycats. We are not asking anyone to go and stone these places and attack them. Come and have discussions with us – let’s solve this through discussion,” the monk said angrily.
He charged that nine Sinhalese girls were recently sacked from the Fashion Bug outlet in Kandy because a Manager at the store had begun having a relationship one of them.
“Harems are being created. Are we to sit back and allow this to happen? This is not extremism. We have to discuss these issues,” he charged.
The monk urged the crowd to refrain from permitting their daughters from going to work at these shops.
“Hereafter we will only send our boys to work in these shops. They will no longer get our women!” the monk raged.
Gnanasara Thero accused the store owners of mistreatment of the Sinhalese men and women who are employed there.
“On Fridays to go to the mosque, they close their shops for two hours. They switch off the lights and the air conditioning. Like broiler chickens in a coop, our boys and girls are left inside while they go to pray – they will go for hell for this,” he said.
The monk called for these stores to be shut down on Poya Days to allow Buddhists working there to go to the temple too.
“This is not racism,” he said.
A mob numbering in the hundreds attacked the Fashion Bug warehouse on Thursday, causing extensive damage to property and personnel. The manager of the warehouse was hospitalized and journalists were attacked by the mob for filming the attack. Several monks were among the mob.

Looks like it is the turn of the Muslims to face the music. I hardly have any sympathy for what they are going through.
During the last Eastern Provincial Council (EPC) elections the SLMC duped the electorate by going independent of the SL regime. It was just an election ploy. Immediately after the elections, despite the pleas of Sampanthan with the SLMC to join hands with the Tamils to strengthen the interests and future of the minorities, Rauf Hakeem treacherously joined the SL regime. The Muslims are simply fools. All that Rauf Hakeem wants for himself, he got from the regime but the ordinary Muslim civilians have been left in the lurch. During the divi neguma bill debate, the Muslims (or the reps of the Muslims) voted for it despite knowing that ultimately it would be the minorities who would lose out but all that mattered was personal interests and greed. Sampanthan could have done the same thing as Rauf Hakeem and could have live out his life peacefully in Colombo but he did not. He even offered the CM’s post to the Muslims. Despite the fact that most of them talk Tamil, the SL Muslims align themselves as a different “race” though it is the “religion” that is different. If the Muslims think they would be praised on a pedestal for their support towards the Sinhala regime, they are finding out the truth, albeit belatedly. It is only about support by Islamic countries in the UNHRC. Otherwise there is no love lost towards them. The sooner they realise this, the better it is for them.

I am reminded of what the late Sir John Kotawala said “tar should be poured on the bald heads” as he would not tolerate this nonsense. Whatever the merits of the allegations against Fashion Bug, the Mob including so called Buddhist priests, (they are not real Buddhists) have broken the law in full view of the world.
The fact that the Police did not act to defend private property from an unruly mob breaking the law, is an indictment on the Force, and by implication the GOSL, and by extension the Defense Secretary.

Isn’t Buddhism a ‘Philosophy’?
Which mean that one are free to follow it without compulsion unlike a ‘Religion’!?
So why are these so called monks and followers of Buddhism creating such
chaos if you are free to choose your own path??
Sri Lankan Democracy seem to be based on the ‘Sri Lanka Buddhist’ philosophy (which completely contradicts the teachings of the lord Buddha)– Born with the right to choose but not permitted to so!
Anyone wanting to change his/her faith should be permitted to do so.
The Buddha chose his own path so why cant anyone else!
Its high time the president who spoke in tamil at the independence day celebrations proclaiming…

It is worth remembering this New York Times article published in 1938:
On Nov. 11, 1938, the New York Times front page: “Nazis Smash, Loot and Burn Jewish Shops and Temples.”

Yesterday, the police was watching the loot! none, not a single criminal was arrested on site. Why? Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the secretary of defense openly said that Bodu Bala Sena is a timely need, and straight policemen have been transfered for bring criminals associated with the Government before justice. In my view this failed defense secretary should be impeached for abetting terrorism against minority ethnic groups!

It is interesting what you have said. Funny enough, the victims of Nazism are now accused of doing exactly what was done to them – they have become occupiers to steal lands and control millions of civilians, now they loot the water, trees, natural resources, demolish homes, keep these civilians in open prisons, and has turned into the bully. Somehow they use the holocaust to get their way in the world.
As for the 1983 brutal attack on Tamils, I see an eerily similar pattern here. J.R. Jayawardene took days to react to the murder and mayhem of the poor Tamil people, now we see an obvious silence from the Rajapaksa’s, once again giving the mobs silent approval.
The police was behaving disgracefully, standing there totally disconnected and not lifting a finger to stop this.
Perhaps they had orders from the top to look the other way.

What is Gotha doing? This monk’s actions are in clear violation of the “Prevention of Terrorism Act”. He is instigating communal violence, why won’t the Government take action. This monk is making sure that in 2014 there would be an additional charge against Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights council. What a shame.

I am not surprised. It will also be interesting to find out who the hundreds of Sri Lankans were, that went as trainees to Israel, apparently to learn agriculture (it is strange our people need to learn agriculture in the desert), where these people are now, and what they do.

Dhaksha,the israelis have made a desert bloom.It is better to go and see how thay did that than to go to fertile india for example and learn from them.Similarly the singaporeans with just a 700 sq.km are having the highest standard of living while we with 65000 sq.km are having the lowest,so it is better for us to go and see how they are doing it than to go to say canada with nearly 10 million sq.km.The point is to learn from people who are doing well with scarce resources,than to copy those with abundant resources.

Land is not owned by humans.It was not created by humans and therefore humans can’t claim any ownership.They can go just like animals to anywhere they want and live.Just like animals marking their territory and attacking intruders we also can do it,but that does not mean we really own something we did not create in the first place.It is only the creator of the land who can decide ultimately who lives where.
I presume you are a muslim and I’am a hindu.I do not consider India as land owned by Hindu’s and that the muslims who invaded from Arabia,persia and central asia and settled in india are a alien race and don’t deserve to live there as equal citizens.That is why I’am happy that India is following a secular path.The superior being who created all this decided to settle the muslims in India and no Hindu has the right to decide otherwise.Same for the palestinians,who have to now decide to live in a 2 state solution with israel without thinking of trying to wipe it out of the map of the world.

A Maharagama Urban Council member is wanted in connection with the sexual abuse a 12-year-old girl with whose mother he had been allegedly having an illicit affair.
The child’s mother in her complaint to Aturugiriya police said she was away from home at the time of the incident and that her daughter was all alone in the house. Police said the suspect had gone missing after the incident they were looking out for him.
Meanwhile Mirihana police were also asked to keep a lookout for the suspect who is a resident of Mirihana. The victim was admitted to Homagama hospital for a medical examination.
