A pathetic Gotabaya Rajapaksa appeared before the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) on Wednesday and sold down the drain people who worked for him. He pleaded he was clean and not guilty of any offence.
The first part of the questioning, which went on for a total of six hours, was on the procurement of MiG-27 fighter jets for the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF). A nervous Rajapaksa, his hands shivering, said the purchases were done in a proper way. When subjected to deeper questioning he said the person responsible for all those matters was Air Marshal Roshan Gunatileke, who was the Air Force Commander at that time.
Gotabaya said that the former Air Force Commander was responsible “if there were financial irregularities.” He said he was not to be blamed for that. He said people should realize that the war was won because these fighters were there and there should not be any investigations into these matters. In the process Gothabaya forgot that as then functioning Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, he was the Chief Account Officer and was responsible for all financial transactions.
He was also questioned at length on manipulation of shares at Lanka Hospitals Limited, the former Apollo Hospital. There his close friend and front man Dilith Jayaweera had allegedly manipulated shares to go up from Rs 28 to Rs 64. It was thereafter that the shares were sold to an Indian company. Jayaweera had obtained inside information from another director of Lanka Hospitals, Nalaka Godahewa. Both Jayaweera and Godahewa were directors of George Steuarts Securities which were trading at the Colombo Stock Exchange. FCID will now question Godahewa.
When the questioning was over Gota was shivering with nervousness. He called one of his security officers and ordered that his vehicle should be reversed inside the FCID premises so he can avoid the television cameras and media. The men did so and the one time powerful and power hungry Gota, now left helpless and exposed for alleged corrupt activity, left without facing the media. If he is so clean as he claims, why did he not face the questioning and avoid the media asked an onlooker. The onlooker said Gota thinks he is still wielding power and trying to cover up matters. That is why he sought a Supreme Court order.

A detailed list of the children was handed over to the UNICEF Representative in Sri Lanka, Mr. Ted Chaiban, by Mr. S.P. Thamilchelvan, Head of the LTTE’s Political Wing, at a meeting held in Kilinochchi on 6th September 2002. Mr. Thamilchelvan told UNICEF that the children had been returned directly into the care of their parents and guardians.
UNICEF staff have interviewed over 20 of the children, confirming that they had indeed been with the LTTE and have now been returned to their families. The agency will continue this process of review and contact all the children on the list and their families.
UNICEF is currently developing an action plan for the social reintegration of these children, including assistance returning to school, access to vocational training, and other activities.
UNICEF and the LTTE have also agreed to work out procedures for monitoring and preventing child recruitment in the future, and the continued release of under-age recruits still reported to be with the LTTE.
UNICEF hopes to see a ‘child-recruit free’ Sri Lanka, and views this latest development as a positive step, and encourages the LTTE to take further steps to fulfill the rights of children as enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Somebody just reminded me that there was a war hero who was jailed by gota for not following tender procedures,though nothing was wrong with his military purchases and his years of experience won the`war for us.
I heard that he became hero to zero and hero again riding the swan in te merrygo round.Maybe it is gota’s turn now on the merrygo around hero to zero and then maybe hero again riding the donkey unless the elephant topples on him and crushes him to death.

Only Tamil TIger sympathisers and Politically opposed people or those who cannot see the woods for the trees, would support what is being written about Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapakse. He was a twice decorated war veteran – a hero in my books – who was the architect of the war victory over a blood thirsty and gruesome terrorist group. Our people have the memory of a squirrel in winter. Some even alleged that Gota kept a tank full of sharks in his backgarden and fed the abductees of white vans to them. This is the depths our people are stooping to. Anyone who knows anything about sharks would also know that only Bull Sharks and Great Whites have attacked humans and that too in their own environment. Obviously there are lunatics among us who would believe this drivel just as as some would believe that Gota was shaking throughout his grilling by the FCID. Gota is not a person to shake. Shame on those who say that he is capable of chickenery. We were lucky to have had such a man in the background of the war in later years and in the forefrunt of infrastructure development. The man did his duty with love for this country and now we are ready to trample him to the ground. I can’t speak for anyone else but certainly the Sinhalese should REMEMBER our past and where we were and what we went through. Ingatitude is the curse of humans. The Chinese saying – When you harvest the fields, remember who planted the seed. Allegations are not evidence and a man is innocent until proven guilty, so what is going on here? A witch hunt that surpasses even Halloween. It is also called looking up and spitting and making people like David Cameron, Ed Milliband, Callum McRae, Frances Harrison, the LTTE Diaspora and the TNA very happy. Nice work.

A: When I took over as the Defence Secretary in 2005, I declared my assets and when I came out from the Ministry in 2015, I had nothing new to declare about those assets.
I am saying with responsibility that I have not acquired any land, houses and extra money other than what I had, whatever interest I get from my legitimate accounts, my monthly salary and pension. Other than those, I don’t have secret accounts and I have not invested in any companies abroad. If I have a house in the US, anybody can go to the web and have a search. If anyone has doubts, they can do an investigation into my bank accounts. It is very unfair to accuse our family like this and also to put down the former President of this country to this level.
I have done honest, committed work and with all that I have to undergo all these inquires by these investigation agencies. For what? It is for doing an honest job. Whatever I have done so far, I have done with a good motive and in a transparent manner. I have not earned a single cent through corrupt means. These investigators can see this if they go through my accounts. I have no foreign accounts other than the accounts that belonged to my wife when we were living in the US. We sold our house in the US and deposited the money in her account in the US. Then, we sold my house built in Sri Lanka on a loan obtained from the State Mortgage Bank when I was in the Army. We invested that money in Treasury Bills in 2000 and we have never touched it.
I don’t have any desire to earn money through corrupt means. I am satisfied with what I have gained up to now. My son became the first in every class in every year throughout his junior high school and high school. He became a valedictorian student, which is given to bright students. He graduated from Duke University, which is among the best five universities. Immediately after his graduation he got a good job at Boeing. He did his Masters at the University of Southern California and graduated on last May. I couldn’t go there as my passport was impounded.
Though I am suffering and regretting the way this Government is treating us for committing ourselves to the country’s future, I still can stand tall and reject all the accusations as I have done nothing wrong.
People must understand we come from the village. I studied at Ananda College. From the day I was born my father was a Parliamentarian and we valued the humble village life. It is wrong to say that we are having very luxurious lifestyles. I didn’t use my post as the Secretary of Defence or my relationship as the President’s brother to do illegal things and earn through illegal means. I don’t see any difference in my lifestyle and that of others. I am living like a normal person. I don’t go to night clubs and I didn’t even have time for fun trips. All these allegations are unfair and unfounded. We are not rogues and criminals. We are patriotic and humble villagers.

For some reason Gota and many other people mixed up “Patriotic” feelings with “racism”.
Basically Gota is a hardcore racist.
Otherwise he is a religious Buddhist.
When he was in power, he wrongly thought that to preserve his race , heritage and religious believes, he should behave like a hardcore racist.
Other racist MR also have the same line of thoughts.
So when they got the power, they gave unconditional shield to all other corrupted people to do what ever they wanted to do to win the war.

Sorry, what happened in srilanka is not a war. War has to be between countries. What happened in srilanka was an internal freedom struggle named by many countries as terrorists. Agree. GG, Chelva encouraged Tamil racism, but the roots are deeper and, dates back to the evil brothers Ramanathan and Arunachalam. The latter was overt in his racism and the older fellow Ramanathan was covert in the way he operate;, acting like a friend of the Sinhalese. They were the pioneers who sowed the seeds of Tamil racism and hatred towards the Sinhalese. VP was created by all of them and hopefully that jouney ended with the fellow lying in that ditch, dead!. Thanks to Rajapakses there is hope for all; MY3 has an easier job than many of his predecessors!

That does not mean that they should take up arms against an elected government or fight for a separate state by using force against a sovereign state. These boys and girls were taken on a ride by your hero, Prabha and you know it. Your Sun God did NOTHING for the Tamils except blindfold them and take them back to almost the Stone Age. These boys and girls were not butchered – they were killed in combat because that is what they were trained to do when they were sent as fodder. Others were sent as suicide bombers – to cause death and mayhem in the rest of the country. Uneducated frogs are found in ponds, generally. GO and look for them in one near you. Today is the 25th Anniversary of the Kattankudy mosques massacre. What was that done for? For freedom of Tamils? You call that right? Gota is a war hero,from a Sri Lnakan’s point of view. I strongly think when commenting people have their nick name to reveal their community. Singhalese using Tamil names are very misleading.
