Acquisition Notices: Militarization Through Grabbing Of Tamil Lands

1474 Tamils of the Northern Peninsula have filed writ application No. CA (Writ) 125/2013, pleading for relief from the Appeal Court, against steps by the ruling Rajapaksa regime to grab an area of approximately 25.8 square kilometres (6381 acres), including their traditional homes.

The Colombo Telegraph reliably learns that hundreds more are to follow suit in desperation.

The petitioners state that the so called land acquisition is flawed in several ways, and point out that proper procedures have not been followed, and that there is no proper public purpose to be served for which their land is to be taken over, as set out in the petition.

Read the purpose of acquisition in the documents below;

Yes this is what the LTTE did to the Sinhala,Muslim and the Tamils when they were in control.

So, if Prabaharan’s LTTE is called terrorists, we can call Rajapakse’s Sri Lankan government by the same name!!

Lands of Sinhalese and Muslims in Colombo are also being acquired in Colombo for development purposes and other reasons. Tamils howl that they’re not being treated equally want to be treated like other citizens. Then they should put up with their lands being acquired also.

Another apologist. Here’s a little hint on how to be more credible: when you make this ‘realist’ kinda comments, it might help if you understand the actual issue that you’re talking about. When you don’t, you come across as the village idiot.

That said, I must now point out that the govt. hasn’t promised to anyone that they’re ‘resettling’ sinhalese and muslim people in the south. They have, however, given many an assurance that the tamil people in former warzones WILL be allowed to resettle on the lands they own. There’s a difference. Not only that, they have denied that they’re doing any sort of mass land acquisition in the first place- something which these documents disprove, once again showing their duplicity. And finally, land in Colombo isnt being acquired for the military by the military- acquiring land is usually done for the common good of the residents of the area, not as a blatantly selfish move to mollify one side. Maybe you should brush up on your understanding of basic law and put up with reality instead of howling like a moron trying to justify this.

You brainwashed bigots think you know everything and have an excuse or explanation for everything regardless of what the topic is. Suggest you try to understand the issue before commenting and exposing your ignorance and one-track minds. You wouldn’t know the solution even if it bit you in the ass thats how dumb you morons are. Just because you have a long banal explanation and keep repeating it like a mantra does not mean its right… all its portrays is your ability to spread bullshit which would be natural consequence considering your brains were substituted for cowdung. Imbeciles like you will never have a future because you tend to dwell in the past.

so… no real reply to the valid points that i made, instead a long exposition of just how much filth you know. *yawn* no wonder this govt. likes your kind.

“Just because you have a long banal explanation and keep repeating it like a mantra does not mean its right” So what exactly are you looking for, as opposed to a ‘long’ and ‘banal’ explanation? A short, exciting one? This country is where it is now becaause fools on all sides took shortcuts instead of doing the right thing. And you have the nerve to call ME “brainwashed”. “Bigot”? Im not the one with the “let the tamils go to hell attitude”- irony, much?

kp, you seem like a bloody dick-head know-it-all who knows nothing. You have an opposite opinion about everything everyone says regardless about what the topic is. Your long explanations are boring akin to empty vessel making loud noises. Let others air their views even if its contradictory to yours….its still their opinion and their entitled to it. Keep your idiotic comments to yourself because even though it impresses your small mind no one else is interested.

no, i have an opposing opinion to what people of his thinking say, not what everybody says.

“Your long explanations are boring akin to empty vessel making loud noises” If you want excitement, i recommend watching Fast and Furious 6- Vin Diesel is pretty good in it. Leave the boring political discussions to those more suited to it.

“Let others air their views even if its contradictory to yours….its still their opinion and their entitled to it” Did i tell him not to express his views? That’s Mahinda’s and Gota’s job, not mine.

kp…Disagreeing is fine because each has different opinions. Debating an opinion is also fine because it opens new views.
What is not acceptable is insulting another because of a difference of views. That only exposes and confirms a person’s lack of class, breed and lack of intelligence or ability to make a point without resorting to insults and name- calling.

My people never demanded your type of greed driven development (in fact destruction). Why the hell is the Sinhala/Buddhist state continuously grabbing our land?

Remember the island never belonged to the Kallthonies in the first place.

        Your stupidity/hypocrisy knows no bound.

now the govt.’s response will be to say this has been produced by “forces seeking to destabilize Sri Lanka’s democracy, working for the LTTE diaspora with NGO funding, to further the anti-Buddhist cause of the minorities, and infringe on Sri Lanka’s sovereignty.”

Leela and the other boot-lickers will claim “So what? This is what we must do as patriotic citizens! Don’t hate on MR! You are victimizing us! Stop! Go away!” with their characteristic whinyness.

Rajeeva Wickremesinghe will then give us a long list of bureaucratic nonsense and justifications, further proving that a once-esteemed man is always up to plumb the depth of how far down a man can go.

At the end of the day, no one will say anything, the proof will mount, and nothing will happen. Asia’s Wonder.

    1) 1 acre 2) 11 acres
    3) 3.5 acres 4) 0.5 acre
    5) 2 acres 6) 10 acres
    7) 30 acres 8) 6 acres
    9) 7.3 acres (8 claimants)
    11) 5 acres 12) 526 acres (List of Claimants, Bordering Nandiaka Lagoon)
    13) 24 acres 14) 12 acres
    15) 12 acres 16) 5 acres

The biggest is 526 acres with a list of claimants bordering the Nandikal lagoon. The list of claimants (or number) not on CT.
The next largest is 7.6 acres with 8 claimants. That averages to about a little less than an acre per claimant.
If you are loosing land it is not nice. What is happening based on govt power of Eminent Domain/compulsory purchase etc prevalent in the US/UK/Australia/Canada
The article appears to indicate this targeted at Tamils etc in North and East. It is not case. Land is being acquired for various project all over the country.

In the south (Weeraketiya, Rajapakse home town) I have a friend whose 20 acre house and coconut estate (and neighbors house/land) has been earmarked for acquisition for extension of the Southern expressway. This is not a Colombo dweller, its inherited ancestral house and sole source of income.

Is anyone under the impression the land for expressways, toll booths, service areas are being built on State land.

Among other reasons is given ‘to establish a holiday resort’. When the Govt has enough and more state lands available it is crime that the choose to evict and deny people possesion of their properties to establish such army establishments.

Rs 290 Bn of the countries budget is being spent for such purposes while displaced people are living in tin shacks. Is this the result of the so called ‘Humanitarian Operation’?

Sri Lankan govt has no authority over lands in Sri Lanka because Tamils are more powerful and their need to create a Tamil land in Sri Lanka is paramount.

    That will no work.

oi oi don’t talk a load of bollocks. sinhalas came to the north to bake bread and muslims came to sell halal meat. i can’t see any rewritten history there. sinhalas are trying to distort and rewrite history. at the end of the day history is history. reality is north is 100% tamil owned. sinhalas and muslims can just piss off.

from anuradhapura to their forcibly taken lands?also take efforts to
return their assets in south and west?Have any efforts made to contact
above landowners. In most of the instances the land owners were threatned to hand over the land forcibly.is happen in south? people like you who
support the atrocities were the cause of past destruction of this country

Dear Colombo Telegraph, please explain what “Tamil lands” are.

Are there different types of “lands” in Sri Lanka – Sinhala lands, Tamil lands, Christian lands, Moslem lands, atheist lands, agnostic lands, Veddah lands, etc. Can people tell what type of land it is just by looking at it? Are these different types of land a different colour from each other? Does Tamil land smell differently from the other types of land? Does it grow only crops which the other types of land don’t grow? Will people from one group die if they walk on the lands of another group?

Dear Colombo Telegraph, are you part of the problem or do you aspire to be part of the solution?

    * Read the acquisition Notices, you will notice that these lands belongs to Tamils. – CT

With respect “these lands belong to Tamils” means something completely different to “Tamil lands”. Tamil lands implies that you believe Tamil people collectively have some sort of ownership rights to the land which people from other ethnic groups do not have. When one considers that there are over 60 million people in Tamil Nadu and several more million people around the world all claiming to be Tamils, that claim has troublesome implications.

The same argument would apply if CT had cited Sinhalese or Moslem lands or whatever. I and others will be happy to hear that CT is not claiming some sort of collective Tamil ethnic ownership for the lands in question.

oi thicko , don’t talk a load of rubbish here. tamil land is tamil land. what do you want to know about tamil land. tamil land is where tamil people have been living for thousands of years. if i own a house , i do call it my house. is that wrong. when tamil people were living in their own land , sinhalas were swinging on trees in southern jungles and sucking dry fish.

there was this one time one of my dad’s uncles were trying to sell some land down in kalutara or somewhere, and he was having difficulty selling it because of a pretty poorly-made access road. I was a kid back then, and i remember them talking about it with my folks when they came over, and the issue at hand was that a tamil businessman from moratuwa had made an offer. The uncle was not willing to sell the land however, saying “mewa ape sinhala idang, me minissunta nikang deela daanna baane. thawa tikak indala balanawa- wena kaatahari denna balanna ona”.

I dont mean to say that this reflects the views of all sinhalese people, but most of them do think this way of lands in the south. see the point im trying to make?

      • 0
        0

        kp,

I think that has more to do with price (“nikang”).

I know of estates in Kiriella/Ratnapura owned by Tamils.
A fancy hotel was built on the beach in Rathgama.

And as you probably know most of the desirable properties down south are owned by Westerners

        Money talks.
