        Rajash I agree.

Buddhism in Sri Lanka needs another Cleansing. It happened years ago when Upali Thera from Thailand, came over at the invitation of the Sanghanayakes, and established the Pure system of Upasampadha, and the Siyam Nikaya was the result.

If the Sanganayakes of the Various Sects of Sri Lankan Buddhism, cannot maintain the Vinaya Disciplin among the Lower Orders, a similar Reorganisation has to take place.

These ‘Freeloading Thugs’ who are now Desecrating Buddhism and the Maha Sangha, will have to be eliminated. They can Freeload on Prison Fare and then be rehabilitated to take their place in the Work Force.

Stop calling them as monks…. they are just one another group of violent fraction of society, but being hidden in safron robes.

Gone were the days, there were real monks got to see in the country. Today, I stop kneeling down any monks – looking at the way many of them behave before us. Each time visiting the country, I become easily upset looking at the manner how these pseudo monks behave…. most of them according my info deny DANA if they dont consist of fish or Meat. They have now become like ordering their meals from the dumb adherents.

Hey guys, if the buddhism they practise is against non-violences, how come these red robed men to become this way aggressive ? That is my first question. And this means nothing like that they should taken aside when the society is deteriorating – but definitely not the proper way them to take the law to their hands. Today we hear about investigations, taking alleged to the custody, many of them being questions, setting some of them free on bails, putting some into long term jail sessions, why all these were not seen during the days of Rajapakshe, instead extra vaganza of Dansal, night car races, unknown openings telling somethig else. Why why why …

RE: All Buddhist Monks Surrendered Were Remanded

All members of the third Gem of the Triple Gem Remanded?

Why? They qre no longer Gems of triple Gems?

      • 2
        0

Unfortunately the ‘Thunuruvan’ has been translated into English, as ‘THE TRIPLE GEM’.
We have been imitating the Christian idea of The ‘Three in One and One in Three’ i.e. The Father, The Son, and the Holy Ghost.

        This is a mis-translation;
Thunuruvan means Three Gems, or Three Jewels; not something TRIPLE, which we venerate as One!

The Buddha, The Dhamma, and The Sangha are three different Concepts.

The Buddha is the Enlightened One.
The Dhamma is the Buddha’s Teaching.
The Sangha is the Community of Beings, who have undertaken to Follow the Buddha’s Teaching, in order to attain the Highest Possible Level for an Human – an Arahat!

Does anyone believe that this Photograph depicts those on the Way to Arahantship???

Their heads must be applied with tar and disrobed and each one held in isolation, and sent home when finished their term as a lesson for other would be hooligans. But the big question is will that ever happen? Absolutely not. Why? No one has the guts to stand up to these guys. Instead they will be pampered, mollycoddled and then worshiped as heroes. They know they have strength when they are in numbers, and this how they will run in circles to defy and challenge justice. Remember what Gandha Sarah said, every school will need to be converted to a prison to house them, and every coconut tree to a hanging post.

If ones would work hard and earn their living- nothing would go that far to the levels seen in the picture. These men in red robes are pinbath uras abusing the intoxications of blind buddhists of the nation. This is the reason why I THOUGHT to do anything and everything if we can – to strengthen the hands of ones running homes for aged and homes for children rather than giving any ct for nothing to the kind of Pinbath uras that seem to have no the least gratefulness.
Some would continue saying it is the CHEEWARAYA we have to respect, then better to so, aparting chevaraya (sanga costume) separately, that can then calm those adherents. Lanken sort of buddhism have reached to the leavels that these red robbed men fully abuse those intoxicated, conditioned buddhist masses in the country. Going back to my youth, recalling Abiththyas daily visit my ancestral house to collect SALAKA DANA, I felt how kindly my great mother prepared the meals for the sanga. Almost every monther a day was numbered to offer food and other items to the sanga that way.

    My God

Look at the saffron wearing Sadhus. They are showing their muscles for physical confrontation.

What are they saying. Buddang Saranang Gachchami…… or Bodu Bala Sena Gachchami?

Catch them all and hold them in the middle of the ocean in the condemned Lanka Kalyani for a year. They should be made to catch deep water fish for food and made to chant peace songs every hour.

They are not Buddhists. They are street gangsters, drug kings, Kaivarukarayos etc., and must be severely dealt with. If possible, send them to the Arctic with their saffron robes.

There will be no shortage up and down the country with giving Danas, Bhodi Pujas , Piriths , and cracking coconuts for these Hooligans in the name of Lord Buddha.
What a Religion ? What a country where nut cases lives to worship these corrupted crooks.

Only the Mahasangha can answer this.
Good for nothing clowns keep on deceiving the idiots.

And that Maha Sangha should be disbanded for allowing the Buddha’s teachings to be perverted by all these thugs and criminals.

But the greatest tragedy is that most of the(so-called) Buddhists of this nation continue to respect these morons and continue with worshiping these frauds and doing their ritual poojas, wasting coconuts and partaking in idiotic rituals that the Buddha never ever prescribed.

This is all Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran’s fault since he became a big humbug.
Will you be able to put some sense into his thinking?

“Catch them all and hold them in the middle of the ocean in the condemned Lanka Kalyani for a year. They should be made to catch deep water fish for food and made to chant peace songs every hour.”

One is innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

      Native Vedda

Can’t you see with your own eyes what the menacing Former Justice Sarath De Silve and Former Justice C V Wigneswaran are doing? If they have judicious mindset they would have kept away from the Legislative and Executive functions.

These top former Judges are dictating their terms for the political life of Sri Lanka. It will be foolhardy to accept your noble idiom.

Is justice better than injustice? When Justices are unjust, rudimentary law must prevail to provide justice to these incorrigible criminals in saffron robes. There is black and white evidence they are downright criminals. Arbitrary justice must be the precursor when judiciary is malfunctioning.

Do you know I was told by a very reliable source that a High Court Judge in the South of Sri Lanka was taking bribes to deliver judgement during Rajapakse rule.

These thugs have prevailed for too long and what they need is snap shot response to change the political culture of Sri Lanka.

Why there is no political will to deal with these saffron robed criminals when they history shows JVP and LTTE were wiped out violently by the state. Premadasa went further to pin-down the street gangsters but he too did not have the guts to deal with the robed gangsters.

Minister Kiriella will have to find a new App to give On Line Pansakula ( last rites ) to our Dalits in the South directly from Malwatta,.

At this rate the Bikku stock in our Dalit Temples will be completely depleted.

Wonder what happened to that drunk Monk, whom Dr Harsha was hugging at the back of the Tip Truck?.

Does Dr Harsh still claim to be a Sinhala Buddhist and swear to protect the Sinha Le from Tamil Terrorism and Foreign interference?.

One may ask why I tag Dr Harsha.

It is because now I never hear of the the rightful Sinhala Buddhist Faction which Keselwatta Kid and Uncle Karu used to run.

Which once even flexed the muscles to try and finish off the Christian Faction Leader.

Sorry to say this to all those Sinhala and Sinha-Le Buddhists who still believe that these are monks and worthy of worship and need to be fattened with endless ‘dana’, that you are wrong. The day Ghanasara was arrested, they behaved even worst.

These men are called so called gentle buddhist monks made in srilanka ?

They do all kind of frauds being in robes. That they have proved not the last incident only, but also many of the brutal incidents got to see sofar. They have a big voice – this voice was grown by the dana given by so called blind buddhists – is but forgotten from them.

These guys surrendered know the case was coming-up tomorrow and they could get bail. The judge should look at these monks independently and deny bail and put the case off at least by one month as there are other cases to deal with and the police needs more time to identify all criminals.

Here we go again..blame everyone except look at the broken mirror at home.

Who sustained Ranil Wickremesinghe during his drought? You think it was his confidence in himself? Who made Maithripala from a nobody to a somebody? Who gave Chandrika B Kumaratunge the chance that she thought has another innings to play, after having been convicted and fined for abetting fraud? Everyone else we mention in the same breath as those mentioned above, are there in the limelight today because of “API”. WE make all this mess possible.

It is so easy to blame the Rajapakses for everyone’s sins. Yes, they were a bunch of villagers who were given the keys to the country’s Gold. They did not take it…we gave it to them on a platter. WE called them Kings and Royalty and the majority of us just smiled when the pandang karayas erected pandals and Dansalas with stolen money.

Today WE have the audacity to criticize Ranil and Sirisena for NOT DOING ENOUGH? Ranil has his bag of snakes to handle and, Maithri has his group of crooks to deal with. Between them, despite all the speculation going on in the clueless media, they appear to have the horizon in sight.

The fact that the crooks from the last regime are still running around shouting “catch me if you can” should be a tribute to the rule of law. Yes, we might not like the appearance of connivance or even duplicity. Imagine for a moment the consequences of Yoshitha Rajapakse being acquitted of the charge of money laundering? His uncles will be turning somersaults for all to see in Galle Face claiming they are also going to be acquitted.

If any of these characters are going to be acquitted in the future, it will not be because there was no crime committed. Rather, because the evidence to convict was not available.Because, none of the facilitators stepped up with a piece of paper to help prove the crime. Why? Because they don’t want to give up their panguwa of ill-gotten gains.

Remember, for all this criminality to have prevailed, there were willing accomplices in many levels. Be they directors, clerks or drivers, all of them took maximum benefit of their proximity to the so-called crooks. Today, they are behaving like they are purer than mother’s milk.

Religious bodies should focus primarily to ensure the ethical dimension of political structure and educate public to demand humanistic, ethically complied policies and practices.

Today all the religious bodies interested to do politics as they are being energized by government funding and in Sri Lanka the biggest institution hold land right is religious bodies precisely Buddhist Temples.

When religious bodies out of context and away from value based ethical take within, coming to politics is a face serving step and Maha’ Sanga is not an exception to this.

“Buddhist monks did their part whenever the race, country and buddhism is in danger.”

The majority in the country are “Buddhists”. At least the current constitution has made it an obligation of the state to protect it. So who or what is Buddhism in danger from? The way I see it these so called monks are the ones putting Buddhism in danger.

” yamapalanaya is jailing monks “
No yahapalanaya is jailing criminals in yellow garb. Only thing that I can find fault is that they are not throwing the key away.

“bathudeen was the main culprit in stoning mannar court house”
Even if this was true are you that stupid to think one crime justifies another?

“buddhist monks are jailed because ekneligoda terrorists were scolded.”

Yamapalanaya is trying to send a message to buddhist monks that if you raise your voice against our yamapalana activities, you will be jailed.

How do you define ” whenever here ” ?

Had they been this much a pain at the times war was at its high killing and abducting the innocence people specially at border villages ?

I think today, Ghanasara the most violent of their kind – is said to be 40 years.

We fought the war for 30 years. That was not born in 2005 with the election of Rajapakshe.

At least10 years ago, Ghanasaras name was not even heard in lanken press.

      Why was that ?

He was then a timid female ?

Where had the other so called monks been, except the few I really respect who belong to the educated group (Dr. Dambare AMila THERO, Most sacred late Rev. Sobitha thero and the few) ?

Balloh, please dont disgrace my mops. who is intelligent than you are.
No men, if you go back to the past, Mr Abusive s electon to the office – at the begining, the man had no agenda how to win the war against LTTErs. To that time, CFA was active which was brought by RW govt. That really stopped KLLINGs inthe north. But with the election of MR – civil society groups were made clear aboutthe need of going against the radical LTTERs… there Ven. Dr Dambara thero and most sacred Sobitha ( I write his name in gold in my lanken history)did a greater service by strengthening the moral of the nation. moral of the army. Then only MR who was earlier behaved as if a dog hiddinghis tail behind – to come forward. We must not forget the past and the truths. So, to that time, all the setbacks were experienced by LTTE in europe and other continents – with their political leader and few front men of their organisaton being dead and paralized. So the turning point for lanken army was the best if go for a millitary win. I though spent my days in Europe, I followed all these well than any average lived in the country. Political decisions were to be made there MR regime played a crucial role – no doubt, but collective forces did the job to the end. SO the cake should be offered to SF led army other two forces not forgetting CIVIL society groups.

it should be called, all thugs should be brought to justice, even if they wear yellow robes. The major problem is that these thugs have a privileged legal status than any other citizen due ti to they being buddhist monks. This again is due to the racial political orders maintained by the consequent regimes for their own advancement. Any person from a relegious order can be respected but not privilaged. But our politicians have no balls to impliment that.

I would like to ask the Mahanayakes of Sri Lanka, The Self Proclaimed Guardians of the Buddha’s Dhamma, why there is no Provision in the Sri Lankan Vinaya to have a Supreme Council of Mahanayakes, to maintain Discipline among so-called Members of the Sangha.

Thailand has one, the ‘Mahatherasamakom’ (the supreme Monks’ Council of Thailand), which has the Power to Discipline and/or Excommunicate Monks who do not Practise the established Rules of the Vinaya.

As it is, Sri Lankan Thugs in Saffron Robes have the ‘Freedom of the Wild Ass’ to carry on as they wish, without any Guidance from the Top!

This is why the Government and its Lawmakers and Police, have no option, but to step in and Act, on behalf of the Law-abiding Citizens of the Country.

I remember as a child being told by my mother to kneel and worship monks in robes who visited our home with the bowl – she said that they were “thuravis” (those who had forsaken worldly life and posessions) like the hindu “swamis” who too visited, for alms.
They chanted when we worshipped and she gave them rice & vegetables.

Later, in the seventies, I saw villagers in the deep south prostrating themselves on the roadside in front of buddhist monks.

This new ‘breed’ of monks are not real disciples of the Lord Buddha.

They appear to be a political breed and pursue worldly activities – involved in litigation, practising even ‘medicine’, owning property, leading mobs in pursuit of land for settlement and to build dagobas.

Demonstrating at premises of a court of law ia a new phenomenon, so far not done by even by laymen.
Their ‘hate’ speeches against other religions is unwanted in a democracy.

The proposal to enact legislation to define/control their behaviour is timely.

    • 2

The difference then monks and today s are – earlier they visited you and your family for alms, but today they visit you for ARMs…or to flirt your family ones…. they dont care at all how they have to get on with …. this is why I am into if the higher chapters would impose them ethical code of conduct for all monks. They are not at all gentle anymore…. they use all bad words to the manner Ghanasara does in public…. what is the diffierence lay people and the monks of the day ? they are more violent than average lay people. I would not give a cent to any wrong monks inthe country to please my relatives next time on. Instead I will work hard to help the aged and the children in need or animals in need. That I have planned since my mother is no longer there. I will send this message across the goodies – since majoratarian monks abuse us holding us for stupid. As few commentators added.

These goons are a disgrace to their religion and to their robes. These are common thugs who pretend they do the work of the Lord Buddha, and try to get away with it because of their robes. They violated our laws by interfering in our law courts, disturbing the peace, and behaving like brainless dolts. They, like that BBS thug had no place in those court proceedings.

Let them all rot in jail.

Buddhism and monks in Sri Lanka has come ridicule. The Maha Sangha should take most of their blame for not taking action and disrobing such thugs in robes.

It is the Maha Sangha entrusted with the sacred responsibility to ensure Lord Buddha’s teaching and following and they have let down Lord Buddha terribly bad. These Maha Sangha lead very comfortable lives, living in spacious and furnished accommodation, travel in luxurious cars and wield a lot of power, so much so the President Maithripala Sirisena had said he would always rule the country how Maha Sangha wanted and surrendered all the powers of the Government to them making the parliament redundant!

So the blame should really cascade through the leaders of the country corrupting the Maha Sangha and monks. But Maha Sangha has no excuse and is responsible because it is the body that is responsible to maintain proper disciplined among the monks and it failed it it duties.

monks enter the Buddhist clergy. All great religions, with the exception of Islam which is adamant in embracing its medieval ways, have changed with the times in history. Sri Lankan Buddhism should devise a system like the way the Catholics do. If a child wants to join the order with the permission of parents entry, this should be on the basis of minimum educational qualifications, family background and so on. From them on intensive studies in the teachings of the Dhamma should be made compulsory. Upward mobility in the Order should be on the basis of learning, behaviour, attitudes etc., Such a method will keep away trash like Gnanassara and the likes defiling the good name of Buddhism in general and the Lankan variety in particular.

Quote:’with the exception of Islam which is adamant in embracing its medieval ways’, what sort of strange statement is that?

Islam and Muslims have a different ideological basis: Muslims believe that they have a divine source of law (the Qur’an and Sunnah) that tells them how to behave and act under all circumstances. They believe this divine law has been well preserved and not tampered with (too much) by human intervention. Since it is divine, they believe that these laws are God made and universal (applicable to all times and to all places). The laws of Islam need no modification, improvements, corrections nor amendments to harmonize with modern times. It is time tested for both eternity and immortality, therefore will still exist in its pristine form even after we are long gone.

Divine laws are far superior to man made laws, and all Muslims in which ever part of the world they live, are happy to be associated and abide by it. It is not for others to demand a reformation for Islam.

Marwan, all divine or quasi-divine messages are good. But as you write……. ‘…divine law has been well preserved and not tampered with (too much) by human intervention.

Aye, there’s the rub; ‘not tampered with’. The problem is that too many Gandasara’s and too many mullah’s are busy tampering with the ‘word of God’ that we are screwed left, right and centre by evil bastards whose one ambition is to heap on us their chaotic mediaeval rule.

God must be resting, or couldn’t give a toss, so WE the People must be vigilant and ready to repel these evil people.

I recommend the young monk, who gets the cop with a thundering punch that could have sent the khakied cop to a counter close to 10, for
intensive training in Boxing in the Army. He looks a natural for fisticuffs and may bring us some overseas medals. There may be many others in the yellow hire-a-monk brigades of BBS, SU, JHU, Ravana??? who are better suited to boxing, wrestling and the martial arts than the more mentally demanding gentler features of the religion of tolerance, compassion and peace.
