Mangala Samaraweera condemning calls by Asigiri Chief Prelate to stone Muslims, says the hateful words by the monk is a ‘Talibanization’ of Buddhism and that no Buddhist can condone a call to stone another human to death.
Publishing a tweet from his official Twitter account this morning, Mangala says now is the time for true Buddhists to unite against the religion from being tainted by violent extremism.
Mangala reminds the Buddhist community that it goes against all Buddhist principles and beliefs to condone a statement to stone another human being to death, even if it emanates from monks.
Below is his tweet:
True Buddhists must unite NOW against the Talibanization of our great philosophy of peace & love of all beings. No Buddhist can condone a statement to stone another human being to death, even if it emanates from the robed orders.
Mangala so far has been the only politician to issue a public rejection and condemnation of the Asgiri thera’s anti-Muslim speech made on Sunday, that blessed violence against Muslims.
Despite availability of video proof of the speech, Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana still remains immune to being charged with violating the ICCPR Act.

What is “Panasakuala” for? Have you ever heard Buddha or any of his disciples visiting funerals for Pansakula? According to the Buddhist theory, offering merits (pin) after death is an utterly meaningless practice. That is expressed in the Buddhist summary statement “Chethana’hang Bhikkhave’ Kammang Vaddami” meaning, only the mind of a living person can control that person’s destiny. I don’t know the history of the practice of Pansakula, but I’m certain that it wasn’t part of Buddhist activities during Buddha’s life time. As a matter of fact, none of the modern faith based practices didn’t exist then. It is said that, when monks asked what is to be used as the guidance after Buddha’s death, Buddha advised them to follow his teachings. It is important to see that Buddha never instructed to follow his own disciples (Sangha Sasana) probably b’cos he knew, by experience, how wrong their behavior could become! According to historians (The Wonder That Was India by A. L. Basham), the term “Sangha Ratnaya” entered into Buddhist lexicon only about three hundred years after Buddha’s death.
For these reasons, I have made NO PANSAKULA OR NO ANY OF THE REGULAR OFFERINGS (DANA) as one of the conditions in my last will!

the word ‘erect’ brings you lot of memory. How you earned lot of money trying to erect yours into the arses of tourists in the beaches. You not only stood with erection but also bend down and did oral jobs as well. BTW how is your mother doing now a days, she must be old enough to retire. The only point I find problematic is that the priest is supposed to have called for stoning, which happens to be the Islamic way of killing. He should have suggested a Buddhist way of killing – such as – er er ..Hey! there is no Buddhist way of killing whatsoever. That is probably why the Prelate had mentioned stoning. So let them be stoned ….

Edwin,why don’t you select one of these and introduce it for buddhism in sri lanka.Or send the entire list to mahanayake of asgiriya chapter and he can try it one by one on Dr.shafi first and then some of those other muslims arrested and see which gives the highest amount of pain.
ps.what about pain on oneself.Tibetan and vietnamese buddhist monks did that.Please do not give that idea to sinhala monks,we will have immolation after immolation non stop starting with the asgiriya mahanayake and gnanam.
