The United Bhikku Front that mooted the UNP Leadership Council has called on its just appointed Chairman Karu Jayasuriya to quit his post immediately.
The UBF said Jayasuriya has broken faith with an agreement reached with Buddhist monks on Sunday at Kurunegala.
UBF National Organiser Ulapane Sumangala Thero said Sajith Premadasa had done the right thing by refusing to accept a position on the Council.
The Thero said UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had hoodwinked the Party and appointed his henchmen to the new Council.

A Living Fossil!
“The Thero said UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had hoodwinked the Party and appointed his henchmen to the new Council”
So, the fossil, RW, is still alive ans moving.

UNP is not suitable run a post Rajapassa Sri Lanka.
A pack of power hungry monkeys. Unable to govern a political party in a transparent way.
Why on earth should we entrust the governance of Sri Lanka to these people.
Cheers!

If the monks are deciding on the party’s leadership, it’s a party without a leadreship.

Why don’t the Centre for free and fair elections conduct a ‘referendem’ on the electronic media for a start and see how many votes Ranil will get and see how many votes Ranil will get!

Is this “Bikku Front” above the Party’a Constitution.

It is surprising that a ‘Bhikku Front’ is involved in guiding the UNP which is supposed to be a secular party. It is surprising that Sajith Premadasa seems to be hamstrung by the Bhikkus and they want to dictate terms to Karu as well. UNP is a rather desperate situation with RW on one side and now the Bhikku Front on the other.
Monks should return to their temples and monastaries and not involve in such worldly affairs. What do they know about running a country? Politicians have created this situation by putting them on the high pedestal. Hope that Karu and the leadership council will get their act together and move the party forward. Sajith should give up politics and become a monk if he cannot use his own brains.

The UNP and its leaderships died long time Back. What is left Now it is the Embalmed mummified Body that is left.Lets bury it and get on with our daily work.
More urgent thing now is to see we get our next meal. I presume that ensuring Food Shelter’ cloths and education too are Human right. This needs to be addressed very urgently.
The Sinhala Buddhist Monks Can Afford to attend to Politics. As they Live on Others and their needs are guaranteed, Like the needs of the Political Leaders. So let them do it.
senile and impotent cannot sire a child. But They are arrognent to cover their inability.
May God intervene to Save Sri Lanka from its present Madness. Let sanity prevail.

The Bikku front must be crazy to believe that Karu will quit.Karu is a lone ranger with selfish motives.I am sure that Fonseka will tell you more about him.

Karu must stand with UNP. Today highlighted the actual picture of Sajith.
I hope karu know the person behind Sajith. Ranil made the mistake is not sacked the sajith.Ranil must negotiate with Imthiyas & Monaragala member. They are true UNP.

“United National Party”
There is no unity. There is no national identity. Only “Party” is left and it will never split as long as members with capitalist ideals are left for partying. They will also leave because under Mahinda Chinthanaya, the UPFA government carrying out the capitalist agenda of the UNP. What the UNP started in 1977 with liberalization of economic policies, the UPFA is continuing with more liberalization and it has reached the stage of legalizing gambling, prostitution, gay rights and abortion.
Leftists in the UPFA have forgotten what socialism is and the leftists idling in the society at large do not know that there is something called socialism. All what they want is freedom of speech to criticize what the government in power is doing. In the absence of political ideologies alternative to capitalism and liberalism, people are compelled to embrace racism and religious fundamentalism and the manipulators use democracy to deceive people to promote nepotism to capture power to govern.
If this trend continues, Sri Lanka will be a country with a society of family clans.

Karu has made a very clever move. If he made a fuss (like Sajith) about nominees of Ranil, this council would never been a reality. He knows, you cant just throw away the old hands and appoint only those loyal to himself. Sajith sadly never learns. His aim was to get to leadership the shortest way.
Tell me who else except Karu, is suitable to lead this council. He can talk to people and get things done: this is sadly what is lacking in SL politics. We all want Chandiyas and thugs who talk loud, to lead our country. We have had authoritarian leaders all this time. This is a real change: a gentleman at the top of the council, for the first time in the history of SL.

Disagreed , as long as RW remains opposition leader nothing will be changed , if real reforms to be adopted RW must step a side, new set of young people ( Ajith C perera , Harsha , Eran W , Kabir H, Sujeewa S et al )need to come forward and rescue the grand all party .

There is no need for a chairman of the council. The impression on the voters will be that since there is a chairman there is a someone above the others in the leadership council and he is the leader of the opposition. The whole purpose of showing to the people that this is a leadership team that is going to run the country will be lost.
Also too many cooks spoil the soup and the council should consist of only 3 ranil, karu and sajith. After a year or so each nominating one can be considered if it is felt that will strengthen the council.
The softly softly step by step approach is better than rushing into a entirely new concept.See whether it is going smoothly and giving value in the form of votes first before expanding the council further.

As Anuruddha says Karu can talk to people
and get things done.
This is probably why he could not even get
elected when he contested Ranil W. This is
probably why he came last in Gampaha. This
is probably why he (and others) stood outside
the road at Siri Kotha and three stones to
cause damage to the building and scare the
UNP leadership.
And now, oohhh la laa!!! He is the man who
can talk to people and get things done. Wait
for a few weeks and months. MR will be no match
for all of them put together.
Now Karu can share half the blame and do half
the things that would follow. He can leave the
rest to RW.
