What a great move by MR to have the most ‘suitable candidate’ as his first choice to be the head of the judiciary which he plans to have absolute control over. Only now the true character of the whole impeachment process come to light.

This rogue withdrew 143 indictments against criminals when he was AG. What more qualification do you need?

Sri Lanka has very talented, brave men and women. Unfortunately, we also have an endless supply of political cronies such as Mohan Pieris. Time has come for decent people of Sri Lanka to stand up and fight. Take our country back.

Have you not still realised that the Corrupt appointed the Corrupt to continue with the corruption and when the appointed Corrupt realised that the ongoing corruption is too much and tried to be right the Corrupt is removing the reformed one. So can it be expected that the Corrupt will again not appoint another Corrupt so that corruption can be continued.

The right thing for the government is to appoint one of the present Supreme Court judges as the Chief Justice. Such an appointment will help dispel doubts that the government is trying to control the judiciary. At this juncture the former Attorney General Mohan Pieris is not the right choice. He will not be able to bring about the much needed raproachment with the legal profession.

In the meantime the sacked Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranaike should leave quietly without any further dramas. This will bring a peaceful end to the controversy. Parliament should review the constitutional provisions relating to the impeachment of judges and make necessary amendments to ensure obervation of natural justice in the impeachment procedures.

This was very much expected and I already knew this. Just wondering how virtuous this person is. Any idea?

Mohan Peiris was one of the draftsmen of the Impeachment Order. He left parliament at 3.20 a.m. on the day the Select Committee sat. He advise the Government on the imeapchment. He is the right hand of Gota and is a deal maker for arms. He is the best bet for the Rajapakse, who will show their true colours. May justice rest in peace!!!!

Rajapakse employed criminals to silence the voice of the people who demonstrate their dissent peacefully to the entire impeachment fiasco. Possible this may be the most potent monumental blunder committed by him. Yet, he and his criminal aliments would be helpless when things are taken up in the international arena. Whole world is fully understands that the removal of the incumbent CJ is a nullity. Whoever wishes to accept MR’s offer of the office of the CJ should realise that his or her days in the office would be numbered as Rajapakse would be forced to respect his constitutional obligation and as happened in Pakistan to restore the incumbent CJ. If there are allegations of misconduct then there is a way to deal with such charges and one cannot simply dump a person holding the high office of the CJ without affording the constitutional safeguards for a fair trial before a competent Court. Probably end result would be that the removal of the President for intentionally violating the Constitution. Who knows this may also trigger initiation of action on war Crimes against him and his brother Gotabaya not only with the backing of minority Tamil community but with the full support of the Sinhalese majority.

    Kiss Ar***e Sumane, Leela (Villager)

The hurrah boys and girls well done. We have legitimized daylight robbery. Now imagine this scenario when the habeas corpus application of Pradeep Ekneligoda comes up. The learned CJ would inform the applicant to go look in Europe where he is hiding.

Hearsay will be admissible as evidence and most cases dispensed pronto and we will have true Aashcharya, Medamulana style

Lets see what Ranil and Swaminathan are going to do as they are members of the Parliamentary Committee. This gives Ranil and UNP another chance to prove if they are part of the ruling party sitting on the opposite benches to support the ruling party or truly opposition.

Will there be a ceremonial sitting and will the lawyers attend to it or gather and leave once he sits at the ceremonial sitting. What will happen if the other judges ask the new CJ about their verdict and what if the present judges again give the verdict that the appointment is illegal and therefore do not like to sit with the new CJ. What about the next most senior judge in the Bench.

I think the ruling idiots/looters are making a very bitter pickle or a soup in Sri Lanka. It is going to be a mixture of Ganja, Coccaine, Bitter gourd, Rasa kinda, Wenivelgeta, Quinine, Aloes, Venom, Pathok juice and thorns, Biles, Merv urine and excreta, etc. etc. There was only one Honeycomb with full of sweet nectar of flowers in it to control the bitterness to some extent and now that is also removed. Sri Lankan citizens, now “beepulla” this “kasaaya” for bringing these rogues to rule our once beautiful and peaceful country with smiling people.

Ironically both Thilakawardena and Mohan Pieris who ( according to this report)are on the government’s short list for appointment as Chief Justice, are Christians – nominal Christians or committed we do not know. But one thing is clear. If either accepts such an appointment it would be a terrible betrayal of their Christian faith bringing shame on the church to which they belong. If such Christians have a conscience they must realise that in accepting such a politicised appointment they would be supporting an evil and unjust establishment under which the country has degenerated into a place where as described by the prophet Isaiah around 700 BC in the Bible :

” Justice is rebuffed and flouted
    While righteousness stands aloof;
    truth stumbles in the marketplace
and honesty is kept out of court,
so truth is lost to sight,
and whoever shuns evil is thought a madman

      Professor,

Mohan Pieris cannot be a true Christian because of track record as the attorney general. You and the nation know what that record was. Further, his response to the UNHRC regarding the Ekneligoda case shows what kind of a human being he is. The man is a sinner and is beyond redemption.

Shirani Tillekewardene is no saint either. She stabbed the CJ on her back while the wolves her at her door, possibly with the intention of getting her job. Here again she has not shown Christian charity, has she?

Prof. Ekanayake, your comment is very true and it applies not only to Christians but also to Buddhists, Muslims, Burghers, Moors and to all other Sri Lankans. In short, no one should accept as it will create chaos and constitutional blunders just to satisfy some looters.

The nation will applaud in unison the conduct of such people like Prof Ekanayake. It is such people who should have been advisors to the head of state.None should accept office and as S.L.Gunasekera said should be recognised until this criminal act which brought Sri Lanka to the level of Mugabe corrected.
As the SC and Appeal Court ruled the lady is still the CJ of this country not the verdict of the Kangaroo Court THAT WAS CREATED BY A MAN WHO HID BEHIND CURTAINS AND THEN PLACED HIS SIGNATURE.
She should be given a fair trial by an unbiased panel and if found guilty sacked.Iam not wrong if I say that was all that the nation Maha Nayakes and other religious chiefs asked

In those rare moments when despots raise their hands against the rule and function of the due process of law, it is the organised legal fraternity that must resist such dubious moves. Here we now have Wijedasa R meekly cowing down, as widely predicted, after breathing hell and high water until yesterday. One appreciates the Lawyers Collective offering some semblance of resistance. Sadly, JCW, Jayampathy W and company are 2nd leaguers and their admirable efforts will pan out. MR plans his moves with great precision as he did to
sideline the more fordmidable Sarath F. The former CJ is nothing compared to the country-wide anti-Rajapakse sentiments SF was able to produce, that stood strong for quite a while.

History bears many examples when shrewd manipulators subverted strong democratic societies under the guise of pseudo-racial religious patriotism – not excluding the great German Republic itself in the late 1930s. There we saw educated, long-standing, healthy institutions brought to their knees. But these eventually collapse but not before harming millions of people and turning the land topsy turvy.

Sri Lanka stews in its own juice.

Trust the school where Mohan Peiris was educated will not make arrangements to felicitate such a humbug, indecent, stupid, lousy, liar who has no decency to stoop to the low levels with robbers and looters of this nation. How can this junk of an idiot be a CJ when he made the biggest blunder that Ekneligoda was hiding somewhere in Europe and did not attend courts to answer querries raised on this murderous act. What can we say but birds of a feather flock together, lets see for how long when principles of natural justice will come upon all such smut who live in Sri Lanka at the suffering and agony imposed on all the citizens of this land.
This CJ is not fit to be a so called christian if he is not following the teachings of his creator.

Once again the cunning, street-wise MR check-mates them all. One speaks no more of morals, ethics, the Constitution, Natural justice, customs etc in governance. It is the old village truism of “henda athey nam, beda ganilla” (If the spoon/ladel is in your hand serve yourself to full measure) MR takes the entire legal fraternity single-handedly, including those senior lawyers/PCs that threatened to ignore his nominee for CJ, and, tells the country and the world if he (Mohan P) was good as A-G what’s wrong with him being CJ. Don’t even be surprised if he tells Mohan P he can continue to be Chairman/Seylon and all those other Santhosams from the Palace that came his way. Who cares for rules and regulations in the personal fiefdom?

And so the Rajapakses ride to the next storm – so long as the focus of the yakkos is kept away from the real issues – the unbearable CoL, health, education, transport, security and what not. The majority can also be fooled the Tiger is not dead and is getting ready to pounce –
a few grams of explosives, a gun or two introduced to the house of a Tamil MP – exaggerated by the Sinhala press and the extremists, lead by the JHU, will do the trick.

If Mohan P moves and makes the entire GKCCC depositors happy settling their dues – capital, interest and all quickly – the country that is notorious for the memory span of a goldfish (2 seconds) this PR coup will go out to mitigate some degree of dis-satisfaction of a section of the public that has earned the sympathy of the entire country.
That is probably why sibling BR is in the vanguard of that exercise.
