Call For Muslim Parliamentarians To Resign From The Government

By Latheef Farook

Latheef Farook

The speech of Ven. Galagodatte  Gnanasara Thera at a public meeting in Kandy on March 17 shamed the nation and sent shudders over the spines of the island’s Muslim community.

Addressing the gathering Bodu Bala Sena Secretary Ven. Galagodatte Gnanasara Thera  asked the Sinhalese to rise against the island’s Muslims, whom he described in very derogatory terms not worthy of a monk, besides accusing Muslims of converting Buddhists into Islam and treating Sinhalese girls and boys in their establishments as slaves.

Inciting them he also asked all Sinhalese girls working for Muslim owned establishments to leave. However he had conveniently forgotten to ask Sinhalese working in the Gulf to return home!

The manner in which he expressed his hatred in his drive to provoke the Sinhalese against Muslims made one to ask whether we are living in the medieval era or in the globalized era in 2013. The irony is that this hate campaign is taking place in a country where Buddhist civilization, known for its teaching of peace, harmony and tolerance, flourished for more than 2550 years.

The tragedy is that this fascism is unfolding four years after ending the thirty year ethnic carnage which was the direct outcome of the racist policies of misguided politicians of the two major communities- Sinhalese and Tamils. Although the Muslims were not direct parties to the conflict they too suffered as a result of the war which was the direct outcome of racist policies.

It was  against these very same  Muslims the Jathika Hela Uruma, Bodu Bala Sena, Sinhala Ravaya, JHU-BBS-SR BBS, combine started inciting Sinhalese not realizing the inherent dangers involved to the whole country.

The disgusting state of affairs was such that Muslims in and around Kandy remained in doors on March 17 and most of them observed a day long fast. Realizing the seriousness of this unwarranted provocation by a small but very well organized heavily funded and government backed group of few hundreds, large number of Sinhalese met their Muslim neighbors and friends in and around Kandy to assure them that they have nothing to do with the BBS. Some even said that “BBS which appeared from nowhere has become a source of embarrassment to Sinhalese”.

Today Muslims living in small numbers amidst predominantly Sinhalese areas spend sleepless nights fearing a July 1983 type attack on them. The deafening silence among the Sinhalese and the government’s refusal to bring these lawless elements to book is deeply disturbing and frightening.

All what the Muslims are asking the government is to stop this hooliganism and stop poisoning the minds of innocent people including children. However the government has been silent which was exploited by the JHU-BBS-SR combine to carry out  their destructive campaign.

Under such circumstance inevitably the mood among the Muslim community is that of gloom with many young families asking “where are we heading and what is the future of our children?

The JHU-BBS-SR threat remains the common topic of discussions at every Muslim gathering including funerals. With one voice they criticize Muslim politicians for their failure to raise this issue. Muslims now openly call their politicians to either stop this rising fascism which could set ablaze the nation or resign from the government.

Muslim community has lost  confidence in their parliamentarians long before the JHU-BBS SR hate Muslim campaign began in view of their failure to stand up to Muslim rights on many issues. However today the mood is nothing but anger.

Muslims fear that the present hate campaign is a conspiracy to provoke them to react to justify a violent attack on them to commemorate the centenary of 1915 Sinhala- Muslim riot perhaps also to please their suspected Israeli-Norwegian masters .

They are least bothered about the harm they are causing to the image of the Sinhala community and the destruction to their own country. As rightly pointed out by Ven Dhambara Amila Thero, Senior Lecturer at Sri Jayawardanapura University,” these people think that the world is inside Sri Lanka though Sri Lanka is part of the world

This fear is justified by the manner in which the JHU-BBS SR combine had taken the law into their hands and become a government within government committing actions in violation of the very same Buddhist principles which they claim to profess and protect.

They openly attack mosques, destroy shrines, go on street demonstrations with posters of pigs with the Arabic word Allah on its face, posters of Holy Ka’ba with a dog on it ,doctors trying to sterilize women who went for delivery, attacking girls wearing hijab and abaya and many more. Muslim minister of justice cannot ensure justice to his own community and the country has descended to such low ebb that a Muslim woman cannot walk freely without the fear of being attacked.

This hooliganism was perpetrated under the watchful eyes of the police which refuses to arrest them stating that THERE ARE “orders from the top not to interfere”.

In this dark hour the disturbed Muslim community was given a clear message by the government. The message was that they are not wanted when state patronage was given to the inaugural ceremony of a cultural center at Galle gifted to BBS by a German, alleged to be a Jew. Perhaps the Jewish methods of saying “thank you” to BBS for successfully pitting the Sinhalese against Muslims

This reminds the country of late President J.R.Jayawardene’s arrogant dismissal of Muslims   when he said “Muslim can stay or leave the government” when he brought the Israelis to fight the LTTE. However it didn’t take long for the country to realize that the very Israelis brought to fight LTTE trained the very same LTTE while training Sri Lankan soldiers too.

Perhaps no lessons learnt yet.

The outcome of Jayewardene’s arrogance was the emergence of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress which further divided the communities and contributed to where the country is today though the mistake was realized later and the National Unity Alliance was formed. Time alone will tell the political implications of the current government’s policy towards Israelis, turning blind eye to BBS hooliganism, overall Sinhalisation and the systematic sidelining of Muslims.

In fact the current unfolding disaster is not something unexpected especially with the presence of Israelis who, many suspect, have picked up the JHU-BBS-SR combine to do their dirty job of pitting Sinhalese against Muslims in Sri Lanka

Right now the Muslim community feels that it was abandoned by the government and betrayed by their own politicians. Their appeal to the government is to contain this ethno religious fascism to avert any potential disaster which the country can ill afford. Their appeal to Muslim parliamentarians is to leave the government and stop humiliating the Muslim community.

What the JHU-BBS-SR combine refuse to understand is that the world, especially Muslims worldwide, is watching us.

It is obvious Lester and Leela are Agents trying to paint a negative picture of Islam and are using the infamous ‘Wahabism bogey’ to fan their misinformed or fabricated propaganda. There is no established Wahabist camps in this country. If it was, then ACJU would be the first to know. That name ‘Wahabbism’ is being dandied arund quite liberally on all Muslims in the country, by mostly non-Muslims who know absolutely nothing on who is a Wahabi and what differences in belief makes a person Wahaby follower. BBS Agents call ACJU leaders Wahabis, some are talking of Wahabi claims to Kuragala, and many more other acts and deeds directly attributed to them Wahabis. Just like Halal and Haram was pandered on cement and wives.

The so called Muslim political party leaders never resign from the Govt.
All of them are traders who want to make money. They will definitely betray their community for their own benefit. MARA knows this. More and more leaders are looking for opportunities to ally with Mara to make money. It is a open true that the Muslim community has no real leaders who are really prepared to give up positions and posts for the interests of the Muslim people. Please look at the history and the present trend.Almost all the Muslim leaders are in the Government,as MPs,
Ministers,High officials. You may very clearly come to know the wealth of these people through a proper investigation. But we don’t have peoples tribunals or mechanisms to go in to this matter so this leaders will make every thing uninterruptedly,in the meme of the people.

    Marwan – Thank you!

Leela – do you know what is halal and haram in the first place. Halal means permissible. Haram therefore is the opposite. There is no need for us to impose halal on non Muslims. Halal simply governs all aspects of a Muslim. meaning – the way we dress, our business dealings, our behavior, our food etc etc., Yes we are concerned about Halal food – reason – as some food may contain ex. biscuits, jams etc carcasses of dead animals like animal oil (pig) horns, hoofs, gullet, animal etc as preservatives, or as flavor enhances, which even a strict Buddhist as yourself (as per your comments) may not mind. But we do. So before commenting about Islam and Islamic way of life – learn the truth :) Do you know what wahabinism is??? Leela why are you so afraid Sri Lanka will turn to a Muslim nation. Are you not sure of your faith. If you are what is your problem. I have great Buddhist buddies thank god they don’t think so narrowly like you.

Kukumber – Prophet Mohamed was a normal human like you and I but led a far honest beautiful life and the most misunderstood person on earth – http://www.newageislam.com/islamic-personalities/muhammad—the-most-misunderstood-man-in-the-world/d/9070

You are wasting time on some of these bigits. Leela is apologist for the BBS, and will not listen to reason. there are a few others who will only see evil in Muslims.

I have a good quote from Mathew 17.4 for them “
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own?”

I agree with you that there is not a single Wahhabist’s camp by name in Sri Lanka or anywhere for that matter. Ibn Abd al-Wahhab started ‘Wahabism’ when he made an alliance with the House of Saud in 18th century to propagate his salafism or monotheism or ‘One God’ following. They abide by the fundermentalist teachings of the Koran and follow Muhammad’s life example called Sunna in true sense.

As had Muhammad destroyed idols in 624 AD, the new Wahhabi have destroyed 15 centuries of Islamic heritage, including the desecration of the tombs of the wives and companions of Prophet Muhammad, in the iconoclastic imposition of Wahhabism and turned into a parking lot. They have also destroyed several holy shrines, including historical places of Islam from the Prophet’s house in Mecca, companion Ayoob Ansari’s house in Medina, and turned them into apartment blocks. Needless to say, they had not allowed a single Church, Synagogue, Buddhist or Hindu Temple to be built in Saudi Arabia.

The Wahhabi-backed House of Saud took full control of the Hejaz, Mecca and Medina, in 1924 and established the modern state of Saudi Arabia, with Wahhabism as its official religion. Since then the House of Saud has promoted Wahhabism as normative Islam throughout the Islamic world. House of Saud spends part of its massive oil wealth to transform traditional Muslim to follow Wahhabi ideology. Bin Laden, all Al Qaeda member and Taliban are Wahhabists.

Wahhabis claim that moderate Sri Lankan Muslims do not know anything of Islam and only themselves are the scholars of real Islam. Actually, Wahhabis preach only ‘dawah’ or hatred, terror and murder. To understand the deranged mentality of Wahhabis look at the ‘fitna’ the Wahhabis have caused in Pakistan. Wahhabis even use Sri Lankan Government Cultural and Religious Affairs Departments to continue their nefarious activities. Sri Lanka Government authorities must investigate every Wahhabi school and propagandist not just in the Eastern Province but everywhere to make sure they are not preaching things that are inimical to Sri Lanka.

A recent article in CT on Wahhabi violence faced by a Sufi named Abdullah or ‘Rah’ explained internal feud, mosque burning and what has happened to moderate Muslim society in general in the recent past in Sri Lanka.

Why are u not interested in begotted and violent buddhists and buddhist monks but in Wahabis ?

You as a buddhist should have more interest and guts in criticising ones that are trying destroy long held peaceful buddhism in SL.

Who are destroying our buddhistic values, they are none other than some in BBS and sinhala urumaya. If you are honest to you, when did we got to see this sorta appalling behaviours of buddhist Monks in the past. What is the difference between those monks and their GIHI people ?What is the purpose of those buddhist monks to stay further as monks if they cant control their mindsets ?

We the buddhists THEN criticised the manner that the Thai and other buddhist monks behave – but today how come our monks have gone exageratingly to the most violent LEVELS. Why cant the rulers amend laws to arrest those monks or any reglious begotted ones that break the laws ?

Have you no brains to get all these clearly that those buddhist monks should NOT be disguised in that way – as just safron robbed criminals – WHY YOU GUYS SUPPORT THEM FURTHER ?

We can leave it that Gotabaya supporting BBS: Because entire world is clear he is proved criminal – though he seems to have talents in some areas. Latter is common to any average person in every folk – not a thing to add extra credit.

But you as one who lived in UK for such a long time should have known all these better – NOT shooting the messenger. Wrong doing should be criticised regardless of the parties. You always seem to be nodding instead of pointing out the mistake of the rulers ? Are u perhaps brainwashed as no medicine on this world could help you further ?

Hade Sheriff – I am not hurt. I am no Jew. But I certainly find it excruciating when people display their inner venom against an old race
purely because they are Jew. I know you are conditioned to hate and cannot help it. That is your problem and it will take a long time for you to be cured from this in-built lunacy. Meanwhile, you have other local problems to worry about – all created unwisely and unnecessarily.
Try to extricate from that initially.

Today s situation that the folks are facing is simply comparable to a long see voyage with a wrong incapable capitan.

Capitan is MR with so called over 40 years exp in local politics but seems to have nothing in his brain how the smooth see routes lie. He feels just the mandate that he unfairly claimed by using all means (the facts are on the right thinking folks of the nation)- in the same manner he and his bunch robbed the credit for the war victory – he could easily deceive also Indians and any other international communities. But alone the facts that the countries who voted for the 2 nd UN resolution are in the opinion that MR is marching on wrong direction.

Across the globe people criticise the word RAJAPAKSHE today – looking at the manner how his powers allow BBS and other chaunistic sentiments to harm own fellow citizens – while his continous rhetoric resound that we are all SRILANKENS.

The leader is no doubt inpredictable – not once several dozens of times he proved it in the POST WAR SCENRIO to the local and IC.

I am not sure whether the present govt will last or another will take over. Whoever comes to power the opportunistic politician will crawl back & lick whatever he/she find on the way to positions. To stop this, intellectuals of the country, impartial national dailies and like minded organisations should educate the nation and make a national movement with principles such as a fixed number of ministers certain qualifications to be an MP, one member from a family to occupy a seat from Village council to the top political post in Sri Lanka. Fixed term. Realistic promises given at elections. The Lankan voter is smart but needs that extra boost of education. If this is not going to happen by the next general elections, the country will be doomed. The mahanayake and all other top religious leaders of the country at a crucial stage should back such change. Otherwise they have to face the wrath of the whatever power they believe in. Will that happen is the one billion Dollar question.
