CBK Dances Away Whilst Unity Government In Crisis: Video Goes Viral

A video clip of former President Chandrika Kumaratunga, the chief architect behind the Maithripala Sirisena Presidency, dancing away with SriLankan Airlines Board Director Rakhitha Jayawardena is currently going viral on social media.

Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga despite bringing Maithripala Sirisena as the common candidate was also instrumental in forming the current unity government to oust the former Rajapaksa regime is seen having a gala time on the dance floor. This is despite the members of the current yahapalanaya government pointing fingers at each other and being at loggerheads with each other especially with the ‘Bond Scam’.

The event took place yesterday at the Taj Samudra at the home coming of the son of another SriLankan Airlines Board Member Rajan Brito.

Rakhitha Jayawardena who is also heard singing the lyrics “she will be wearing silk pyjamas when she comes, aye aye yipee yipee aye’ is still a Board Member of SriLankan Airlines despite wide speculation that he along with Chairman Ajith Dias and the rest of the Board Directors ( barring Harendara Balapatabendi ) have tendered their resignations.

Indeed! Nero Fiddling while Rome Burns!

The National Debt counted by Fake experts and Fake accountants from IMF, KPMG, Anderson and Price Water House (which was banned from India), has hit the roof. People are without water and the political elite dances the night away in 5 star hotels. Meanwhile Bond scam Ranil has drafted special legislation to raise more loans to put in his pocket to assuage his greed for and need to BUY POLITICAL POWER. As Sira plays the fiddle, JVP is playing piper with SAITM, rather than calling for impeachment of Ranil Wickramasinghe.
      Miracle of Modayas indeed.

Isn’t there more than a touch of the usual Sri Lankan misogynistic hypocrisy to this article? Is it the writer’s opinion that women should not dance (or drink?). Why are the dancing men not headlined?
Anyway, if CBK can dance at her age, I say bravo to her. I know I can’t.

          OLD CODGER
Thanks for being one of the few voices for sanity. Perhaps, it is indicative of the generational gap.
WHO is the REAL Nero that’s fiddling while Rome burns?

            Emil,
We live in a country where Sinhala Buddhists prefer Victorian Christian morals over those professed by the (presumably Buddhist) topless Sigiriya damsels.
            Who to tell aney?

They have all been dancing since 1948, so what about it.
Colombo Telegraph please mature up. You guys at CT enjoy the good life in a country that has been good enough to give you guys refuge when there are much better people who deserve refuge and who are worthy of it. Somewhere along the lines CT is beginning to start to stink because if you guys at CT are good loyal citizens of the country you guys sought refuge in then by God show your loyalty to that country.

In journalism truth prevails then publish this without fear.

Why can’t the former President enjoy and evening of music and dance? She is not ruling the country nor is she meddling with governance like MR who is trying his level best to destabilize the country and economy. Whatever the misdeeds during her rule, if not for Chandrika we would still be suffering under MR. So let Chandrika enjoy an evening if she wants to. This is certainly not news in public interest.

Chief architect? Lol! CT, dont you think that is bit too much for this failed politician? In fact, there were many chief architects. RAW, the diplomatic circles in Colombo, London, Washington etc., to name them few. Did not R. Sampanthan reveal recently “there were many foreign powers that were responsible for the regime change?” Unfortunately “Beddagane Sanjeewa” is no more. Otherwise he would have said more about “chief architect”! Lol!

      Max:
It is hard to keep this kind of discussion out of the gutter of innuendo and insult when such as you seek to contribute to the discourse. Ah, well, this is Silly L:anka after all!

First came prohibition ladies are prevented from buying or selling liquor. Now comes dancing. Next may be stop wearing trousers because our mothers did not wear trousers and President Sirisena will say against our culture. Next may be no pre -marital sex. Deploy the Police to catch them. All this is happening just after giving 25% representation in local bodies which is not democratic. While 25% is guaranteed for women they they can also contest for the balance 75%. I hope they will not touch marriage and pregnancy.

so what’s the big deal in Chandrika dancing at a private function/party?
Do not these gentleman wine and dine individually or collectively ?

It” sad to see so many so called media people who think they are the only one who never sin even in their dreams and the only ones to love the country, making a big issue of some thing which even shouldn”t have been published in the first place.

My eyesight is not good and I misread “goes viral” as “Gore Vidal possibly because a columnist in the weekend papers had written a startling piece on the man.The writer NandaPethiyagoda a hard core UNP supporter who writes under the cover of pseudonym Nan, is either oblivious or was delberTely trying to portray Vidal as a great man. Vidal a raving paedophile who would not spare a boy as young a 9 years of age is a notorious homo .To know more about Vidal I recommend that people read Hitch 22 written by the Late N York Times journo Christopher Hutchins where he lays bare Vidal’s activities, now being idolised by an ignorant writer of the Sunday Times.

      Percy:
      A typical half-baked comment.
Mr. HITCHENS, not Hutchins, was more than a just NYT columnist as you would have discovered if you took the trouble to check out his cv. And, since we are on to personal proclivities, you might have mentioned that Mr. H was, to use your terminology, “a raving” alcoholic who died prematurely of cancer. To describe him as a troubled soul who had expressed difficulty in coming to terms with his and his parents antecedents would be to understate the case.
Half truths can hardly pass for erudite analysis, in case you didn’t know.

It doesn’t take a genius to discover a typo.if you read my post you would have seen Hitch 22 which of course is abbreviation of Hitchins which I now discover was as a result of auto correction. I was talking about Vidal and the reference to Hitchins was to underscore the point that Vidal was a paedophile who would take young boys to bed and suck them dry! I was not about to embark on his life story which I know very well. Probably the only person to have attended both Oxford and Cambridge and ZHarvard and Yale,What is moot here is that he misguidedly made a clandestine visit to SL during the war and backed the LTTE.He later admits that it was misjudgment on his part and if you remember he said that “the majority too have rights”. Can’t accuse you of being pedantic!

Well there is a general consensus here. The lady is on the dance floor having freshened herself after a shit, shower, and shave! She trips the light fantastic very well,. That’ why the Ladyis NO tramp! Now doesn’t that epitomise the great one who engineered this massive tragedy that has befallen this great country – the epic Yahapalana on which future historians will write volumes. It may be called “ The beginning of the fall of a country once known as Sri Lanka and now known as Shri Eelam”

    Extremely poor CT journalism.
Leaders should have their own space too devoid of prying eyes of the public.
The choice CT made in publishing this footage is utterly disgusting.

Agree. It devalues the otherwise good work done by CT. Provocative titles also don’t help. If the country is in a mess there is no need for Chandrika to moan about the it morning, noon and night. That issue lies squarely with Ranil and the President.

Thanks CT. The best piece I’ve seen in CT. Reminds me of our Peradeniya hall socials.that were so therapeutic.

Seeing Mrs. K dance and sing lightens the deal of all mothers.

Wishing her many more good times.

      Dear Busy Mother

It’s pleasing to know there are liberal human beings like you in this
“puritan” Buddhist country lead by such religious greats like Gandassara. Ranil and CBK come from the upper level of our society and are entitled to some innocent private leisure of their own – not to be intruded by crude prying paparazzi eyes. The Rajapakses and the Sinhala Buddhist extreme cannot help our lower level to rise up to middle and upper class levels. They can, and have, reduced much of society to virtual poverty. They have, meanwhile, fattened themselves considerably. There is now no middle class, built by post-1977 UNP regimes, to speak of any more.

What our yakkos do on Feb 10 will define the next few decades.

Come on CT, get a life!

      Hey DEMO
Great to hear that Chandrika is human! All the while I thought she was a cyclops from another planet, given the way she placed the whole country in jeopardy just to settle old scores with MR. May the non existent GOD bless her, poor thingy!

For the person who left Sri Lanka literally while the petroleum installation at Kolonnawa was burning after a LTTE bomb attack , the present crisis in the country is a walk in the park .
