“Citizens Are Dying Because Of Nandasena’s Arrogance”: Anura Dissanayake Unleashes Scathing Attack On Govt.

JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake unleashed another volley of salvos at a prolonged news conference on Tuesday (11), accusing Gotabaya Rajapaksa of arrogance that was costing Sri Lankan lives.

Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa was a “dry shell of a man”, who felt no compassion, no sense of responsibility towards the citizens of Sri Lanka, the JVP Leader charged during an hour-long briefing to reporters.

Health officials were holding back from expressing their genuine concerns and advice in the presence of the President, the JVP Leader said. “They are afraid that expressing such views would lead to a whole other problem,” Dissanayake explained. From opening the island to deadly variants, to the disastrous Covid-19 vaccination drive, the Government had mismanaged the entire crisis, the JVP leader said.

“Health Ministers threw pots in the river or promoted fake witch-doctor cures. This is the result of immature leadership,” Dissanayake charged. At a time when senior public health officials like Dr Anil Jaasinghe, the former Director General of Health Service were needed the most, the President had permitted him to retire when his term could easily have been extended by cabinet until the corona virus crisis had passed.

“Dr Jaasinghe was shunted off as Secretary to the Environment Ministry,” said Dissanayake, while other public health officials were being transferred as diplomats overseas.

Gritting his teeth, Dissanayake said President Rajapaksa was a leader filled with hubris and ego, lacking compassion and political maturity that could help Sri Lanka combat the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.

“The President’s arrogant, short-sighted policies have brought Sri Lanka to a dangerous point in terms of the deadly virus – for god’s sake, get off your high-horse, even now,” he charged.

“Who hands over the governance of a country of people to a cold man, a man with no feelings, no empathy, no compassion, dry shell of a man? How can such a person be an effective ruler, if to begin with, he does not feel for his people? It is this failed experiment that is before us today,” Dissanayake insisted.

The JVP Leader told the President to “learn to listen to the experts.”  “Learn to accept viewpoints that may differ from your own,” he advised.

Dissanayake explained that he had not taken the Covid-19 vaccine event though all 225 members of Parliament were entitled to receive both jabs.

“Vaccination against Covid-19 is the right of every citizen. As an eligible citizen, I have a right to know when I will receive the vaccine and how I am to go about getting it. I do not want to be given the vaccine because it is a privilege, I can lay claim to as an elected parliamentarian. Every citizen is entitled to it, and it is the Government’s mismanagement, lousy planning and inefficiency that has left citizens high and dry about when they might be vaccinated,” he said.

The JVP Leader had a sombre warning for fellow citizens.

The Government of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Dissanayake said, had abandoned all pretense of protecting the people from this deadly virus.

“In no uncertain terms, the Government has told the people it does not have the means or the will to keep us safe. It has told us that it is up to us to look after our own protection, because the Government has abdicated this duty towards the people. So I urge people, please take precautions to save yourselves. There is no government here that will save you – that responsibility is now up to each one of us,” he said.

Gota may be a good administrator, but a bad leader.

An administrator may be a good manager, but may not be a good leader with leadership skills and humanistic values .

Above all, we need a leader with crisis management skills and be a team player.

Unfortunately we have Gota as President at the wrong time.

Who said Gota is a good administrator?
It is a disgrace for administrative profession if you call him as a good administrator.

“Gota may be a good administrator, but a bad leader.”

Gota is an idiot. A plain and simple idiot.

All his mythical powers are nothing but the result of a half-decent PR campaign …… let loose on a population of gullible village idiots.

Just think …….. ………..Now that Gota’s capabilities are on full display for everyone to see. ……….. How did Gota end up getting more credit than Fonseka for finishing the war?

If not for Fonseka ……… Mahinda’s negotiating-teams with Nimal Siripala and Sajin Vass will be still negotiating with Prabakaran in Switzerland!

And EE will be still hiding under his bed!!

There are only two ways how this is going to end.

Rajapakses’ callous disregard for the people indicate/hint that the people’s opinion doesen’t matter ……. the elections will be stolen …… they are planning to cling to power for generations by force.

Or if the living conditions get unbearable,

The fear and intimidation tactics won’t work ……… people will come on to the streets without any concern for their own safety and topple the government.

Then all the Rajapakses will be hung upside down in the Gall Face Green like good ol’ Benito.

Native, ever the humanist you are ….. better make sure you wipe off the buckets of spit dripping from their faces ………. cause Lester and EE won’t be there ……. by then they would’ve done the ol’ Judas and vanished.

Now you are starting to bore me to death. I already know all your insecurities: only too well!

            Seconded by me, Nathan.
            .
The only problem for me with Nimal is writing his name in lower case. My normal spell-check is over-ridden by the free version of Grammarly.
            .
            https://app.grammarly.com/
            .
It changes the guy’s name to “animal”. Well, we are all animals, but Nimal is far more advanced than any of us! And Gota – among the lowest forms, somewhat higher than the amoeba.
            .
The paid versionof Grammarly must be fantastically good, but it is very expensive – in the region of Rs 10K per month. However, it can be no substitute for knowing the language – nothing mechanical can ever be.
            .
I’d ask all to experiment with the free version, although I sometimes find it a pain to manage. I feel it also slows down the computer.
            .
There’s no substitute for genius – that is what “nimal” is!

          Nimal,
          .
What say you to this? Let us not under-estimate the appeal of Trump to some Americans:
          .
          https://www.bbc.com/news/av/election-us-2016-36060260
          .
That’s just two minutes of video from a guy who finds that Trump speaks for him. How should this be countered? By not making disparaging remarks about those who do honest hard work, but without pretensions to being sophisticated thinkers.
          .
The danger is all the greater when we have users of English feeling that they are superior to those who rely only on Swabasha. I’d like all readers, including those who don’t understand Sinhala, to take a look at the Sinhala section of CT. There are not many articles there, but it looks as though three good articles have been submitted there yesterday. Comments only on one:
          .
          https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/m-m-janapriya-14-may-2021/
          .
Three comments there – all in English! One has to understand the frustration of those who find themselves outcasts in their own land. They ought to realise that Tamils have as great a right to this country as the “Sinhalayo” (Eagle Eye terminology).
          .
Actually, they have more excuse than the labouring class WASP. That quite honest speaker objects to Spanish-speaking Mexicans, also whites, taking away their jobs. They may not listen with sufficient attention to those who tell them that they are all immigrants, who massacred the “Native Americans”, the true sons of the soil.
          .
Our own Native Vedda has strong arguments on his side! This generalisation is true, after all: “All Lankans came from South India, but Veddas, the earliest.”

          • 2
            7

            Sinhala_Man,
Can you go to South India and find out whether they have any evidences to show that Sinhala speaking people lived there.
Please do not talk rubbish if you do not know the history of Sinhalayo. If you can get hold of a Grade 10 History text book published by the Department of Education and read to find out all the evidences given as proof that Sinhalayo along with Vedda Eththo evolved in this country called Sinhale before Brits changed it to Ceylon. Or else, go to YouTube and watch ‘Unlimited History’ videos.

“under-estimate the appeal of Trump to some Americans:”

            SM,

“Appeal” is one thing but have these “appealing messiahs” ever solved anyone’s problems? ……… After all, what did Trump achieve for any of these people? …… What is the worth of some fleeting emotional-consolation?

For most people …….. the world out here/there is the sum total of their insecurities ……… mostly insecurities picked up in childhood, yet unexamined and come to terms with …..

They view the world through the prism of their insecurities.

Sadly, when I read Dayan, Malinda, Uditha, EE, Lester et al …….. I don’t learn anything new about anything ……… I see right through to their insecurities …….. nothing more ………

The answer to your question – it’s a good one – is very long …….. I don’t have the time to compose a long piece …… so let me answer in brief snippets when I have a little more time ……..

          nimal fernando,
It is Rajapakshes who got the credit for eliminating LTTE Tamil terrorists who massacred Sinhalayo for three decades bragging that they cannot be defeated militarily because they gave the right leadership to the Armed Forces that JRJ, Premadasa, Chandrika and Ranil failed to do. Fonseka was in the Army before Rajapakshes came to power but he failed to get rid of Tamil terrorists.
There was tremendous amount of pressure from various parties who were behind Tamil terrorists to stop the military operation but Rajapakshes did not budged into those guys. When these guys realized that Sri Lanka Armed Forces are going to wipe out LTTE, some guys wanted to stop the military operation to rescue Prabhakaran and top level LTTE cadres and take them to a safe haven. Mahinda Rajapakshe told them do not interfere in domestic affairs of the country. That is the reason why they got the credit.

GOTA is a “Huge” disgrace to all the “Administrators”. Period.

        Ajith,

Look at my first sentence again- “May be a good administrator “and not “he was a good administrator”.

“May be” was used because many people who voted for Gota believed that as Secretary Ministry of defense, he was alleged to be responsible for the war victory and secondly as Secretary Urban development under Mahinda presidency he was alleged to be responsible for beautification of Colombo.

          .
Please pardon me, but I’ve just begun looking at all these anonymous comments, and I find it disconcerting to see that you have rushed in to make the very first statement on this article, but having to now hedge and haw about what you meant.
          .
I don’t mind nimal, Ajith, chiv, Plato, LM and Raj-UK being anonymous because they are consistent in what they say. In the case of the first-named, if “artificial intelligence” turns his name into “animal” this time without my knowing it, I’ll start using upper-case for “n”! For the last two, I have worked out their identity. Confusing!
          .
Gota is a bad administrator and a non-leader; he should never have been allowed to contest the Presidency, given that he was a non-citizen. We’re talking here mainly about countering COVID; another brother, Basil, has just flown off to the USA for medical treatment.
          .
If these guys consent to live in this country, it is only as bosses of us all; if not they run off to the USA, condemning that country the while, whilst we have to make do with what is available.

Good Administrator? Must be a joke? He is a joker. 69 laks paper qualified educated and uneducated were made to believe that he is the Fake Lee Kuan Yew of SL.
Entire Rajapaksa family are uneducated fellows born to fudge and steal.

He is a man who had entered the Army because he had no other options, no AL and ran off to US during the height of the war and worked as a cheap DB Admin in California and part time 7/11 gas station attendant.

69 thought that by appointing such a man as the head of the state would solve all the the problems and could make SL another Singapore.

The king with no brains and low IQ is making mistake after mistake and taking the country and the people backwards.

He is the man who was boasting during MR unsuccessful 52 day govt. that “Api hondata karala pennan” Arrogant and foolish man.

    Anura Dissanayake,
Your analysis of NGR is absolutely right. The arrogance, violent and brutal nature completely destroyed this country for a long time. I don’t understand how the Sinhalese people continue to forget the massacre of thousands of their own children in 1989/90 period. To compensate this massacre, they massacred further thousands of own brothers and sisters children in 2009. How come the police and military ignore to find out who master mind the Easter Bombing? Today they have destroyed the Mullivaygal memorial to satisfy the Monks to cover up Corona deaths. Ultimately, they destroy the country and people.

The Rajapakses never had it so good. The country maybe in deep shit but like Zimbabwe under Mugabe or North Korea under the Kim family, the rulers & their cronies enjoy the good life at the expense of poor citizens who are starving & destitute.

The family rule is guaranteed under Chinese puppet masters & with the military overseeing the governance, an illiterate bunch of yobs & yes men (& women) are all that is needed to show our democratic credentials. The health minister with her continued faith in occult & questionable support for home grown remedies, is a joke. In any other country, apart from those which are ruled by despots, such a minister would be sacked, not only for incompetence, but for the ridicule bestowed upon the govt. by her backward thinking in combating the pandemic. SL has not learnt from other countries & appears to have no strategy to deal with the pandemic, nor for post pandemic recovery. Inept past Presidents have been lucky that there were no such disasters but

Why are you cherry picking? The only similarity between Nandasena and Churchill is that both were racists. But Churchill didn’t run away to USA, and his children weren’t US citizens. He was educated, not an ignoramus like Nandasena. Nandasena is President only because Mahinda was barred from contesting. Churchill’s brother didn’t make him PM. Does that answer your question?

Whoever could claim inherent knowledge without advice from the knowing and networking?
Pandemics cannot be countered by 7 Eleven technology, all by itself.
Probably, their training of the past carriers or ignorance and lack of basic knowledge of junior school kids mentality.

            Mahila,
The very same people at large thought, Gotabaya would have been a great leader.
            :
Their hopes were based on looking at how Gota worked for ” colombo city beautification “. See, that was a greater mistake. Any soldier with some disipline could do any kind of good work. But not all would be capable to be the president. That is where srilanken stupid mind set was caught. Their naivity is to be blamed for today’s mess.
            :
Gotabaya has proved, that he cant manage to provide the elderly peopel with the vaccine, which WHO and neigbouring india granted to the island nation. No records are held for those who have now been injected with first dose of ASTRAZENECCA vaccine. Like or not believe, or not, there are provable records that their friends and close men and women were on the top of the list where the vaccine is already given. How abusive the LEADERSHIP has turned out to be ?
WE ALMSOT EVERYONE ATTACKED POLONNARUWE DONKEY FOR NO REASON, NOW GOTABAYA HAS PROVED HIS CAPABLITIES ARE NOT COMPARABLE TO 1% ofWHAT SORYSENA EVER ACHIEVED.
            .
Those 6.9 mio of voters behave today like deaf and blind. They are speechless. pEOPLE as angers make them sick, that alone could lead them to lose their lives, not by covid infections.

          Sinhala_Man,
“I’m not voting for anybody out of gratitude.”
          —-
Voting or not voting is a different matter from showing gratitude to those who have done something good. Buddha said ‘Poojatha poojaneeyanan’ (respect those who deserve respect). Sinhala Buddhists follow Buddha’s teachings.
Sinhala Buddhists, except few ungrateful guys, show their gratitude to Rajapakshes because they gave the leadership to get rid of Tamil terrorists who massacred Sinhalayo for three decades and restore peace.
Fonseka was in the Army but he could not get rid of Tamil terrorists until Rajapakshes gave the leadership. JRJ, Premadasa, Chandrika and Ranil miserably failed to give leadership. Instead of getting rid of terrorists, Ranil handed over almost one third of the country on a platter to a terrorist.

What is the Opposition Leader doing?

Sajith Premadasa too is trying to shield NGR. He does not want to hear/see/talk about the people behind the Easter bombings—an event to sway the voters to elect a (pseudo)strong man. The current lot of parliamentarians are crooks. All the ministries are there to protect the King clans

At a “Media Briefing”, Dr. Nalaka Godahewa – the State Minister of Urban Development, Waste Disposal and Community Cleanliness” (note the name of this Ministry) questioned: “Who is going to answer the delay in using the Sinpharm Vaccine that was gifted to Sri Lanka on March 31st”. If that was used all these spreads of Covid and resulting deaths could have been avoided. We failed to use it till May 08th”.Look at this “Dr.” idiot’s “Reasoning” and “Questioning”. From March 31st, his Government had the vaccine and the NMRA (National Medicine Regulatory Authority) wanted very vital information from the manufacturers to approve it. Wasn’t it the “Responsibility” of the Government and the “Task Force” to intervene and get the information at lightning speed to the NMRA? Instead, what did the Government do? The Government exerted “Force” and “Undue” interference to NMRA to approve it. When NMRA resisted yielding to such unethical interferences considering the dangers,, this “BIG HEADED” and “IDIOT” of a President removed four members of that agency and brought in New Members to get the approval. Those are the “Management Techniques” this President, knows and capable of practicing. Now his, “Followers” like this “Idiot”, “Dr” Godahewa is trying through the “Media Coolies” to escape the “Responsibility” of causing the “Calamity” of spread and the deaths of people, in asking “Who is responsible”? That is the “Viyathmaga” style.

      Part (A)
      Hi Simon,
Reference, “Dr. Nalaka Godahewa – the State Minister of Urban Development, Waste Disposal and Community Cleanliness” (note the functions of this Ministry) questioned: “Who is going to answer the delay in using the Sinopharm Vaccine that was gifted to Sri Lanka on March 31st”
You hit the nail on the head, yes it seems to me by 5 aspects as herein below
      1) Hon Ministers’ question is very valid and an integral part of his functions. Plain and simple.
      2) “Community cleanliness” was one, important element, whether carried out in pandemic situation. Whether it was questionable and/or had limitations firstly, and not adhered to and overlooked by the Ministry concerned. Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) too at one time was claimed did not adhere to administrative procedure, in the years gone by, true or false is, indeterminate as of now. The process is in “stall mode” not going to proceed anyway, according to proposed parliament Bill, awaiting dispensation by SL law makers! Not Courts.
      3) The Presidential Immunisation Task Force (PITF) and vaccination supply, led by a Rajapaksa sibling, and the one time presidential secretary of Sil Redhi fame – not getting the necessary clinical information in time, which is a sine quo non, of any vaccine manufacturer of any repute.

      • 6
        1

        Part (B – Continued)
        4) By 2) above the task force did not complete the process of vaccination import, immaterial whether gift grant or paid, in an orderly and comprehensive manner as would have been expected by SL citizens, and least expected from such patriotic administrators. They are solely responsible for half the job, very well undone to expectations.
        5) Benefactor (China) or Beneficiary (SL Government), then it is in totality failed their responsibility; It was a Façade only. Neither SL nor China wanted or intended, vaccinating and protecting the SL people. That was only another game plan; Fool the citizenry to imaginative comfort, a likeness to April 19 episode to security and gain votes. The Hon Minister is responsible by implication
        6) By undue extension and only by that reason, His Excellency, Dr Palitha Kohona, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China, (previously head of the Treaty section of the UNO) for not providing the comprehensive documentation and carrying out the necessary, due diligence, as he usually does and done in the past, in private and public capacity as administrator par excellence.
SL citizens will make their pick in due course, as they are intelligent enough and as capably done in the past.
When you point a finger at others, please remember 4 fingers (by act of God) is pointing at you. 4 against 1.

In Srilanka, A Land Like No Other, the State has been built on a total lack of Humanitarian compassion towards its citizens. In that sense the State fits the President like a glove.

      —-
State launched a military operation to eliminate Tamil terrorists who massacred Sinhalayo because the State had humanitarian compassion towards its citizens. Citizens of Sinhale went through hell for three decades because of Tamil terrorists who terrorized the people just to grab a piece of land from Sinhale to create a separate State for the descendants of Dravidians brought to Yapanaya by Portuguese.

I was listening to an interview with Rajitha (former Minister of health) in another TV program. I can’t believe that the President has not got disease control expert team together YET to advise him? While every other field can be controlled by naked POWER, pandemic is not a situation that can be controlled and managed by Polis and yes men/women. Australia has shown the way to the rest of the world. Whatever criticisms we have about Morison govt, one thing they did right was to listen to medical advice and make decisions accordingly. Even belatedly, SL President and the govt has to follow this example while keeping the bloated egos aside for the time being.

      Siri,
      .
I am not a sympathizer to any parties down there, but I trust Rajitha. He has been telling the truth about the ground reality of the country. He may be not 100% unbiased, but I respect him fo rhis achivements during the previous govt. He achieved a lot for the benefit of the masses. All these were not made aware to the grass root level of people, because media mafia run/handled by under ground networks in the country did not allow any good be outreached to the masses. That was premediated act by RAJAPAKSHE hidden forces.

      pakisB,
For guys who faced a humiliating defeat and suffering from ‘Defeat-Syndrome’, it may be a myth but for Sinhalayo who won the war against Tamil terrorists under the leadership of Rajapakshes, President is a ‘Superman’ for ever.

      PakisB,
where people are controlled more by myths and blatant lies, what cant go wrong ?
      :
The comparisons can be made with that of Madagaskar. I thought buddhist countries would have been independent of their thoughts – being close to scientific way of thinking. But in the practice, buddhagama misleads the masses in the country, so that the political vicious circle could move forward/continue.

I wonder why Anuradasa hasn’t taken the jab yet? Is that because he is afraid of taking untested vaccines ? Anuradasa and Premadsa should be vaccinated before vaccinating the general public to see whether there are any side effects. Anuradasa need to understand that people have a right to refuse vaccines.

The virus was started from Wuhan, but it didn’t spread to whole China, but they failed to warn the other countries ,even at that time world over thought this was Chinese problem, then China thought there you have it from super power to rest what is the use of and experts in WHO

    • 2

I said it long time ago that the Virus escaped from a lab in Wuhan. Dr. Tedros who is in the purse of China dragged his feet . He delayed declaring it a pandemic wasting valuable time to launch a strong attack. Chinese never cooperated with the team sent there to get to the origin of the Virus. Had Mr. Trump been the President of USA he would have cut the Chinese to proper size.

Saying it for the umpteenth time, I’m a villager – never been outside Asia. My knowing some English doesn’t change that. Nor does my youngest sister living in North Carolina, USA, with her PhD husband and her daughter mean much. When I want to understand something about America, I listen to Marxist, Professor Kumar David, and Nimal Fernando. We all miss CBK’s first cousin, Mano Ratwatte, such a reliable guide to understand the ethos of that great country.
    .
All of us liberals, non-racist in outlook, hated Trump. Many of us extended that to the entire Republican Party. That also was unfair. It was the Party of Abraham Lincoln, and of Herbert Hoover – a good and decent man who won his only term by a landslide, made terrible mistakes in countering The Great Depression, and badly lost his re-election bid to F.D. Roosevelt (Democratic).
    .
Listen to these three minutes of Liz Cheney of the Republican Party to understand how much the intelligent members of that Party disapproved of Trump.
