Colombo Telegraph Exclusive Revelation: UNP Writes To Facebook Urging To Safeguard Privacy Of Users From “Illegal” Sri Lankan Government

Following Colombo Telegraph’s exclusive revelation that the “unconstitutional” Sri Lankan government has pressurized Facebook into revealing confidential information on 16 social media profiles operated by politicians, the United National Party has written to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg urging to protect privacy and confidentiality of Sri Lankan Facebook users.

Zuckerberg

In a letter, UNP Chairman Kabir Hashim emphasizes that Facebook must refrain from engaging with the “illegal” Sri Lankan government. The letter said, ” It is very likely that officials from the current illegal administration of Sri Lanka headed by the President, Mr Maithripala Sirisena, may ask Facebook for information on selected Sri Lankan users of Facebook that should rightfully be private. Such requests may include information on named individuals, geo locations and other identification details of users who view and post on these pages. It is vital this information be safeguarded as the current illegal administration will most likely use these in ways which are constitutionally prohibited. ”

Who invited them & for what?

There’s a way to present an NCM, speaker must adhere to them. Nobody can do that in that hasty manner.

He should have followed president’s advice on this matter.

It is crystal clear that the Prez has not uttered a word against the members who conducted themselves against the constitution like thugs damaging Govt.poperty, forcibly occupying the speaker’s chair, removal of that chair and causing hurt to some members of the rival party, a staff worker and some Police officers. yesterday in the Parliament!!!

    Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg ,

If you are going to be an instrumnent of dictatorshio against democracy, Facebook will be hostory.

90% of the Facebook users will boycott you.

Think twice before you interfere with the fundamental right to communicate.

USA Bill of rights. Not different for Sri Lankans.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Bill_of_Rights

Fourthly. That in article 1st, section 9, between clauses 3 and 4, be inserted these clauses, to wit: The civil rights of none shall be abridged on account of religious belief or worship, nor shall any national religion be established, nor shall the full and equal rights of conscience be in any manner, or on any pretext, infringed.
The people shall not be deprived or abridged of their right to speak, to write, or to publish their sentiments; and the freedom of the press, as one of the great bulwarks of liberty, shall be inviolable.

Three cheers to UNP and its chairman.
Mark Zuckerberg CEO / Facebook , Can never be manipulated by the 3 week old Fake government of Srilanka which had now been defeated following the No Confidence Motion ( NCM) with majority votes .
UNP ! Get down to work soon Away from the Discarded 3 weeks Old , Fake Srilankan government and it’s Fake PM.
Following the 26 th October Fake drama played in front of the world arena , has brought irreparable damage and disgrace to our Mother Lanka / Nation and its People.
Innocent People Young and Old were forced in to this drama without the fault of their own.

We salute the Speaker at his age weathered the hooligans and the thugs who threatened him , almost assaulted him and abused him for the job he was asked to do , by the highest Supreme Court of this country.
He passed the NCM successfully , not once but twice with flying colours amidst flying weapons in the Srilankan Parliament thrown by the despicable unruly Elected MPs and Ministers from the FAKE GOVERMENT.
This will be on records as Despicable behaviours of the so called UN/ HONOURABLE men and women who were voted by People to represent the country.
Disgrace , Disgrace , and Shame on them all.
Those who performed criminal acts in the Parliament , the most sacred place of law and order behaved unlawfully should be punished by the court of law and be banned from sittings of the Parliament for couple of times at least.
Is there any law and order in our country??? To Punish the ones who behaved criminally with threatening behaviours, damaging Parliament fixtures and fittings ect! Ect!
We voted them to represent us , not to destroy the Parliament ,and the others.!!

Facebook should not allow itself become a tool of Satanic Sira in his frantic efforts to consolidate the coup he staged on Oct 26 with the help of Mafia criminal Rajapakse and his cabal. Instead, the Facebook should assist the ordinary people of Sri Lanka and their leaders in their fight against the unconstitutional actions of the belligerent and increasingly insane President and help protect their democratic rights.

‘current illegal administration of Sri Lanka headed by the President, Mr Maithripala Sirisena,” How come ?

why NCM was not passed by secret voting? Is this democracy or hypocrisy? had there been secret voting hooliganism would have been averted and the reputation of the Parliament and the Country preserved.

We cannot protect and promote corruption and plunder of public funds. Don’t we have anyone to care speak for the innocent public who voted this Govt. to power. ? threat uggery

Typical 3rd World, South Asian mindset. I don’t understand why President as well as UNP are giving UNNECESSARY hype to one of the dumbest social media platform, Facebook for nothing. If Facebook does anything out of their User Agreement, or away from legal framework, sue this social media company. Making a blog post in Linkedin would be more effective than this letter, that Mark is not going to read such a long stupidity of our own.
    .
Right now, stop going behind Facebook, and warn FB about any legal action or consequence via news media, especially one of the mainstream international news media like CNN, BBC or Aljazeera (BBC and ALJ might take you serious)

In a way the present confusion on the the constitution is good. In that we could collect all the ambiguous matters in the constitution , delete them and make a fresh draft without any ambiguity. The draft constitution should be drafted in English, translated into Sinhala and Tamil, ensuring the meaning of words and clauses do not differ from one language to another. Assistance for the languages may be obtained from the respective scholars to use the correct terms, submit same to the people for their comments/ amendments/addition, within a time frame. In the prevailing computer/digital atmosphere the feedback from the people may not be very difficult. Translation to should be done in a manner where the need to go to the courts for interpretation should be nil or minimized. All the judges cannot be expected to interpret the meaning in the same manner for various reasons, including political bias and personal attachments to political parties.
It is said that the MP’s are not adequately educated. True. But the confusion and
misinterpretations are due to the so called “intellectuals” who seem to know every thing else except their mind, which appear to fluctuate from election to election.
