The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has joined 10 foreign-based Tamil diaspora organizations in demanding that Boris Johnson, MP and Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs ‘to declare the Sri Lankan military attache, Brigadier Priyanka Fernando a “Persona Non Grata” for committing serious offences under British Law, abusing diplomatic immunity in the UK and committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Sri Lanka and therefore to curtain his leave to remain in the UK.’

The letter has been signed by representatives of the following diaspora organizations apart from the TNA: British Tamil Conservatives (BTC), British Tamil Forum (BTF), Global Tamil Forum (GTF), International Centre for the Prevention and Prosecution of Genocide (ICPPG), Tamils Coordinating Committee (TCC-UK), Tamils for Labour, Tamil Friends of the Liberal Democrats, Tamil Information Centre (TIC), Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) and Tamil Solidarity.
This follows Fernando making a throat-slitting gesture towards protestors demonstrating outside the Sri Lanka mission in London on the country’s Independence Day.
While the UK High Commission in Colombo had lodged a protest with Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs upon which the Government was to recall Fernando, President Maithripala Sirisena revoked the decision.

Sambandan, while holding the position of Leader of Opposition of Sri Lanka has all of a sudden trying to talk of the violation of British law in their territory. If Mr. Sambandan, like a gentleman, resigned his position in Parliament then his stand is clear cut. Then we can interpret that there was some wounding of Tamil pride and the British law is being made a scapegoat to make things even. In my view the Foreign Ministry was right from a tactical point of view and MY3’s conduct is explained by the considerations of his own life. But all this now has caused a tilt in the balance of the Yahapalana Government because Sambandan’s had a role in supporting the existence of this Government. Leave diplomatic protest notes aside. If the British Police failed to clear a blockade to our mission there what happens if there is a similar blockade of the British Mission here and the Sri Lankan Police fails to clear it? Long before there was a show of muscular strength or gesticulations on the part of the of a Defence attache the Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner too should have requested the British Authorities to clear the road. Obviously the British Police would fail to do so and from that point on wards to work on diplomatic and tit for tat tactics. Now the most sensible thing is to recall every staff member of the Sri Lankan Mission in UK to come back for consultations and be here in Sri Lanka for some time.

If the Britishers have given a protest note to the Foreign Ministry, then after an inquiry by a judge here the appropriate response can be made. The result now is almost breaking diplomatic relations between the two countries. As I said before the only course open is to summon the entire staff for consultations.

During the colonial rule (Portuguese & Dutch), tens of thousands of Dalit (untouchables) South Indians were brought to Sri Lanka as slaves and settled in the Southern parts of the island right from the eastern coast Chilaw, all the way up to the Deep South Matara as menial laborers/coolies (for growing/peeling cinnamon, planting/plucking coconut, toddy tapping, and for many other jobs). Within a few centuries, the Sinhala population increased exponentially when these people changed their religion to Buddhism and Christianity to hide their Dalit caste and eventually assimilated with the local Sinhala population (Sinhalized) by adopting the Sinhala language/culture and getting converted to Sinhala Buddhists and Sinhala Catholics. Some of them even adopted the Portuguese surnames to hide their original South Indian (low caste) identity.
So Percy, if you check your DNA, it will definitely indicate beyond any doubts that your ancestors (Dalit/untouchables) came to Sri Lanka from South India and got converted into Sinhala-Buddhists? What is their surname now, Perera, De Silva, Fernando? What was your ancestor’s names then, Parama Cutti, Nila Cutti? The extracts from the Portuguese Tombo records gives the original names of the present day Sinhalese with Portuguese surnames (and many others) before their conversion to Christianity and Buddhism. You can trace from which South Indian Dalit village your ancestors came here.

Kumari Kandam has never existed. It is a falsification of an hypothesis set forward by an English zoologist Philip Sclater by Tamil fanatics. In in 1864 Philip Sclater put forward the hypothesis of a submerged continent connecting India to Madagascar to explain the similarities between India, Madagascar and Africa. He called it Lemuria. The Tamils picked it up by the end of the 19th century and coined the name Kumari Kandam (which is a Sanskrit name!) and started fabricating myths and stories about this Kumari Kandam and a submerged imaginary Tamil civilisation. That the Lemuria hypothesis was referring to a time millions of years prior to humans came into being was only a minor detail for the fanatical Tamil minds. In addition to the enormous time mismatch of millions of years, there is no support for Kumari Kandam even in Tamil literature. With the continental drift theory, Lemuria hypothesis is completely discarded now, but that is not stopping the messed up minds of the Tamil fanatics teaching this nonsense to their children and producing Tamil fanatics generation after generation. A recently fabricated myth is now said to be an ancient myth and Kumari Kandam is referred to as the legendary lost Tamil continent.
