Following Landslide Win In LG Elections Mahinda Wants Opposition Leader’s Post And Chairmanship Of SLFP

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) scored a landslide victory in the local government elections concluded yesterday.

The extraordinary slowness of releasing results notwithstanding it is now clear that the SLPP have won the majority of seats in more than 250 local government bodies while securing more than 50% of the total votes cast in areas outside those with Tamil or Muslim majorities. The United National Party stands second with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the coalition it leads, the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) a distant third, followed by the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).

Dismissing talk of taking over the Premiership, former President and the virtual leader of the SLPP Mahinda Rajapaksa pointed out that this was a local government and not parliamentary election. However he has stated that the Government should table a special bill in Parliament to enable its dissolution and the holding of fresh elections in a context where it is clearly lost the confidence of the people.

Following the apparent landslide victory Rajapaksa urged supporters to ‘celebrate peacefully and with restraint.’ The following is a statement released to the media by Rajapaksa:

“Reports coming in from all corners of the island, indicate that the Sri Lanka PodujanaPeramuna is heading for a historic victory at the local government elections. I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to the voting public of Sri Lanka who have reposed their trust in us, and made this victory possible. The opposition has been able to achieve this victory amidst unprecedented persecution and harassment.

“Despite the personal harassment they may have had to face over the past three years, I earnestly request all those who contested under the Sri Lanka PodujanaPeramuna to celebrate this hard won victory peacefully and with restraint and in a manner that will not inconvenience the defeated side. Members of the SLPP should be mindful that such is the way we should show our appreciation to the voting public of Sri Lanka.

“Victory to all Sri Lankans!

“May the blessings of the Triple Gem be upon you.”

Rajapaksa has also stated elsewhere that since the anti-government vote was secured by the SLPP the Joint Opposition should be given the Opposition Leader’s post. He further stated that he was prepared to accept it. SLPP sources also stated that Rajapaksa had expressed the opinion that he should be reinstated as Chairman of the SLFP.

Meanwhile, according to unconfirmed reports President Maithripala Sirisena, whose party suffered a humiliating defeat, is said to have shunned his advisors and instead had a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Don’t forget that this was a local government election; two more years for the Presidential election and that is a long time in Politics.
The “Bond Scam and severe corruption and the culture of impunity” undoubtedly played a major role for the unpopularity of the present ruling political set up.
There are many criminal, unresolved yet, charges of present sitting members of Parliament. There final outcomes will have a major effect at the next Presidential election.
The next two years are going to be chaotic but crucial.. The President will have a major role to play to be firm and fair and workable..
A cabinet with bright young new blood is the answer; the same old same old will not do.

One reason why UNP lost can be attributed to the shenanigans of Cheap Minister Wigneswaran. Every time he made claims to a separate state or LTTE ideals, the nationalist SLPP took advantage. It is possible Mahinda is still paying the LTTE remnants the way he paid Prabaharan to get the Tamils not to vote at the Presidential election Mahinda won. Wigneswaran is a surrogate of LTTE remnants, it is possible this drama came to fruition. Next time Wigneswran makes such a statement immediately President Sirisena should dissolve the Northern Provincial Council. Unless and until President takes stern action against Wigneswaran he will continue to create trouble for the Yahapalana Govt. Wigneswaran is a thankless person!

      Park:
That’s a load of hog-wash and you know it. UNP lost votes because My3 for short term gain created a bond issue and created a report just before the election and then released a part of it. There was about another thirty reports that were delivered at the same time, mostly on the financial crimes of the last govt has any one seen even a part of it. Anyway UNP still got its base in tact. It can build on before the next election.

I am glad what ever My3 did backfired on him and could not get even a million votes even if you put SLFP + UPFA.
He had brought all the crooks from the last govt and not he is dead weight and you see the same crooks crossing for their political survival.

Here is a very difficult situation. This election was not conducted to elect candidates to run the Councils. Not any one of party was serious about running the council. They all were geared only to win the election. That is only muscle flexing game with in them. It is nothing about the country, councils or voters. SLFP under New King emerged out the nastiest game player on this. He was riding on two boats. Slap ran on the election, not to operate the Councils. There is no confirmation from leader- GLP, sponsors – Old Royal and election commission that there is real party called SLPP existing and it will be running the Councils from the day all other taking over their councils. If Slap party is not manning the Councils, Election commission has to revert back to PR system and should re-allocate all available seats to the other parties on proportional system and let them run the Council. Nasty Kings and GLP are not just destroying the election system, but after winning the election leaving all candidates in mid of the sea and starting to negotiating for their own party leadership. They all three should be removed from their respective Parties. This will enable the Slap party elected candidates to run the Councils impediment free for the rest of the five years for which they are elected for.

Operation Release Genie. The evil genie that the right-thinking people of this country have put in a bottle with so much risk and sacrifice has been let loose. Operation Rescue Genie, financed by the drug dealers, graft takers, black money, organized prostitution, in fact the whole gamut of organized crime has won. The lethargy and the stupidity of Ranil and Sirisena helped. The grass eating human idiots and the rice eating human cows have also contributed. Fine. Now that the job is complete, you idiots will have to take the responsibility for the repercussions. We will be watching the game from the grand stand. Let the Games Begin.

To the best of our knowledge, Lankan parliament does not have any MPs from SLPP.
MR must first declare as to whether he is in SLPP or is in SLFP. Remember in Aug/Sept 2015 MR refused to serve as Leader of opposition.

    22nd Dream of King Kosol:
King: Lord I had a dream last night and could not sleep afterwards. There was this beautiful island. One day a Raksha known as Rakthaksha descends on it and starts to make things really bad for the people. He plunders the land of its riches and bumps off anyone who criticizes him even slightly.

As months pass by, the people get disgusted with him and finally even risking their lives, catch him and put him in a bottle. The task of throwing the bottle in to the deep blue sea is entrusted to the two leaders who led the rebellion. Little did the people realize that one of them, though physically old, was still in the mental state of a little boy studying under Teacher Dispamok. For this idiot, everything was just a game of Pandu. While in the ship carrying the deadly cargo, he playfully opens the bottle freeing the Yaksha. The Yaksha immediately proceeds back to the island, and prepares his second campaign of horror.

With that, Lord, I woke up. Does my dream portend disaster in Kosala Desha in the coming years?

Buddha: You have nothing to worry, O’ King. The kings following you, including your own son will rule Kosala Desha with justice, kindness and firmness. This is all about that island called Lankadweepa. Thousands of years from now, it will be ruled by a man called Rajayaksha. People will finally put him in a bottle but the next ruler who was an immature idiot releases him. What is to follow will be revealed in some other dream.

SLPP led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa secured just over 44% of the total votes and this was below the number of votes Rajapaksa got at the last Presidential elections (47.58).

LG election results showed that more people (55.35%) voted against the SLPP and not for the SLPP (44.65%).

Rajafuksha can say anything he wants but remember this is only a minor provincial council election and not a parliamentary one. This result was good for the current government as they were too slow in prosecuting the previous regime criminals. Now all that needs to be done is to have the corruption cases and murder investigations of Thajudeen and Lasantha completed and to have the Rajafuksha criminals locked up for life or executed following a judiciary process. This will get rid of these bastards for ever and let the people of SL lead a free and democratic way of life.

      Pal joey
You may be correct about the insignificance of the recent LG elections. But you cannot really sweep under the carpet the serious disappointment that the average voter has indicated on the basis of his/her preferences at the said election.
But what prevented My3 and RW to not keep the promise commitment they made to the voting public at large in Dec/Jan 2015?
Was the reason for their hesitation and dilly dallying due to their own culpability in having benefitted by sharing the loot with the Rajafukse corrupt gangsters?

Well result of of local government election in 2018 February 10th has turn into national political agenda. By and large that change of the center of ruling parties alliance of UNP, SLFP, MC, TNA, certain Indian Tamils of so-called progressive elements and JVP led by “Rainbow Revolution” in 2015 January 8th lead by Mathripala Sirisena has lost overall majority local governances in country wide.
The verdict of people by election result have many silent demands
1 Against divided country by ethnic basis by so-called Federalism advocated by current regime in power .
2 Restoration of fundamentals of democratic norms in Island. by Minority rule democracy in Parliament.
3 While large scale corruptions by UNP ruling party and their alliance Ministers of SLFPs.
The Central Bank that CB Bonds scam is key issues of undermined nation economy by UNP
leadership of RW ,RK Malik Samara.. and Kabir Husun of ISIS Islam Ideologist.
4 Selling all nation wealth and assets by UNP leadership of RW
5 High inflation and stop of all development project by UNP governance.
6 Day to day living of millions of people life is uncertainties around country.
All these problems has to be address by SLPP if permitted come to power?

The first demand Mahinda Rajapakse asked the President was for the President to violate the Constitution of the country by dissolving the Parliament. As per the constitution the Parliament cannot be dissolved. This shows the character and caliber of Mahinda Rajapakse, who does not respect any laws. We saw this in white van, murders, thievery etc during his last rule.

Mahinda: Give me the position of opposition leader and SLFP party leadership and also Presidency of the country to run it to the ground. Also for my family of BANDITS to PROFIT from it many more times. Where is the GOAT -“Bappa” to rival Mahinda’s famly hedgemony or for the spoiled Mahinda bratts to take a weapon and brandish in the face of “GOAT Bappa”?

This is a only a local Govt election. However, the people wanted to send a warning to the current YahaPALUWA’s that the biggest losers are the President Silly Sena and the UNP’s RanilW – the Rajakeeya HORRA who has no grass root support except from the minorities or business community in Colommbo. Damn good lesson for them if they have the brains to learn any lesson to have detached from the masses. The UNP has no economic policies for the grass roots to prosper. They’re intellectually bankrupt and no worse than the Mahinda tyrant and his band of theieves who are allowed to abscond.
