Following Landslide Win In LG Elections Mahinda Wants Opposition Leader’s Post And Chairmanship Of SLFP

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) scored a landslide victory in the local government elections concluded yesterday.

The extraordinary slowness of releasing results notwithstanding it is now clear that the SLPP have won the majority of seats in more than 250 local government bodies while securing more than 50% of the total votes cast in areas outside those with Tamil or Muslim majorities. The United National Party stands second with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the coalition it leads, the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) a distant third, followed by the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).

Dismissing talk of taking over the Premiership, former President and the virtual leader of the SLPP Mahinda Rajapaksa pointed out that this was a local government and not parliamentary election. However he has stated that the Government should table a special bill in Parliament to enable its dissolution and the holding of fresh elections in a context where it is clearly lost the confidence of the people.

Following the apparent landslide victory Rajapaksa urged supporters to ‘celebrate peacefully and with restraint.’ The following is a statement released to the media by Rajapaksa:

“Reports coming in from all corners of the island, indicate that the Sri Lanka PodujanaPeramuna is heading for a historic victory at the local government elections. I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to the voting public of Sri Lanka who have reposed their trust in us, and made this victory possible. The opposition has been able to achieve this victory amidst unprecedented persecution and harassment.

“Despite the personal harassment they may have had to face over the past three years, I earnestly request all those who contested under the Sri Lanka PodujanaPeramuna to celebrate this hard won victory peacefully and with restraint and in a manner that will not inconvenience the defeated side. Members of the SLPP should be mindful that such is the way we should show our appreciation to the voting public of Sri Lanka.

“Victory to all Sri Lankans!

“May the blessings of the Triple Gem be upon you.”

Rajapaksa has also stated elsewhere that since the anti-government vote was secured by the SLPP the Joint Opposition should be given the Opposition Leader’s post. He further stated that he was prepared to accept it. SLPP sources also stated that Rajapaksa had expressed the opinion that he should be reinstated as Chairman of the SLFP.

Meanwhile, according to unconfirmed reports President Maithripala Sirisena, whose party suffered a humiliating defeat, is said to have shunned his advisors and instead had a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

It’s people verdicts and government messed all up for the last three years ..
Honesty MR and Ranil did not any good at all ..
Ranil messed up central bank issue .he should have resigned but he did not do it ..
That is one of the main courre..
Government that came to power with intention of wiping up corruptions become more corrupt ..
Ranil and M&S internal fighting made a great damage ..
Moreover ; people did not feel that this coloation between Ranil and M&s could go for a long time.
I was hoping Jvp to do well..
But they did not go that far .
People are not ready to give power to JVP yet …
    So sad about this…
But AKD will be a wrong voice..
To keep any government in check .

You are right about AKD.He should resign and give the leadership to a person who can change the JVP policies to suit the current environment, not take us back in time.

They need more progressive policies or they are going to be stuck in the 5-10%range.

Iam wondering whether it is time for chandrika to come back into politics and takeover the SLFP.Sirisena can’t handle the three rajapakshe’s alone. He needs chandrika’s active help.Three against one is too much for him.he is losing control of the party slowly but surely.if chandrika comes back then the people will also wake up a bit. They think now that she is gone for good. Her dad and mums party is slipping out of her grip.Let Mahinda have his new party and let chandrika have her party founded by her father and carried on by her mother and her.Let the split be permanent.

I just threw it out to see the response which seems not good here.If not CBK what about her son?Somebody must be there to give maithri some support. He is a weak man so far as i have seen.Nobody can accuse CBK of not being gutty can they?

In 2015 presidential elections it was Maitri+ranil+CBK vs mahinda+gota+basil and the former won by a whisker. Then CBK vanished to enjoy her life abroad and see what happenned. She should be here and also bring in her son here.Otherwise she is going to lose the party her father founded. That is all i am saying.

Desperate times requires desperate measures.Even the old cow may have to be milked even if only one or two drops come.

Srilankens are born fools, else, the would never vote for this man.

This says everything about the low level society in our home country.

Almost everyone is more into corruption and extremism than to anything else.

Like LKY in Singapore we should have limited our voting to educated public until we were certain the public was politically mature for a universal suffrage. As a result we suffer this kind of ignominy time and time again. Even the ones who take over like Sirisena and Ranil are political novices and are uncommitted to the country thinking only about their parties. Otherwise as a joint national government they should have contested together as one voice!
Funniest is MR contested in a new party while the son was with the old SLFP. Now MR on the strength of his victory wants to take over the old party he left. Sirisena did this before now he wants to follow. Where in the world would this happen? Only in a politically immature country like Srilanka!

No, no, please no! She is toxic in the south. Everytime she opens her mouth the UPFA-SLFP loses votes. The only way to move forward is for the UNP to reform. RW and the old cronies must step aside and a broad alliance of UNP and certain factions of other parties have to come together. UNP has to move into the future. They have get more youth especially women in. But there is a simple and ugly truth we all have to face, and that is the UNP is seen as the minority party or the anti-Buddhist party by many in the south. Same with Chandrika only many times worse. She is really toxic to the Sinhala-Buddhists. You can’t use such a personality. She is seen as overcompensating for the Racism and biggotry of her father. There has to be a new strategy in SL politics with new faces, unfortunately that much easier said than done.

The cold blooded murderers of Welikada prisoners and Rathupaswala folks (who asked for drinking water) are still out there. The white van killers are going to be back in power. Stupid Yahapalana will get kicked out very soon.

This results verify that srilankens ground level people are racists.
They would always rally round behind an extremist leader such a Raajapakshe.

Both Mr Sirisena and Premier RW are decent civilized leaders this country we produced.

Rajapakshe rascals would do anything to please the gallery of people.
So now I understand it better, the thoughts of MINORITIES INTHIS COUNTRY.
Best possible way is to prove that Raajapakshes are war crime leaders and put him jail to feel us all a healthy future. I hate to see people to have been manipulated for his person gains.

This is very unethical and gainst morals too.

        LEELAGEMALLI ,
To my knowledge , this was the first election of many things that
we haven’t seen before . Split SLFP and UNP insulting each other
as thieves , becoming president and premier by hook or crook ,
shamelessly trying to hoodwink the people at election time and
governing together at other times , keep running after thieves as
if going to catch them but in truth playing a drama , allowing a
minister to resign for corruption enquiry and taking him to lead
canvassing for the party never minding public outrage or any
political ethics let alone that of social , it is total blunders upon
blunders by MAGE THUNA and RANIL ! And it is high time JVP
considers giving up on investigation politics and find another way
or even RESIGN THEIR POSTS until people come after them instead
them going after people who can not live without fraud and
corruption . So far JVP didn’t get a single council , even lost their
much talked about Tissamaharama. I now think , JVP is on an
impossible mission . JVP must take a policy decision to resign all
their MP posts if this LG didn’t give them a single council ! They
MUST SAY THIS LOUDLY TO THE PEOPLE !

        Leelalangemalli,
        No you are wrong mate.
I believe Sri Lankans are not really racists. All they want is a good government to cater to their basic needs and fulfill their aspirations and safeguard their interests and future welfare and that of their progeny like-any other people in other civilised countries of the world.
The Rajapakse rascals and forebears of his likes cultivated and propergated a divisive culture of fear, suspicion and hatred to divide and rule the ordinary people to enrich themselves by making false promises.
They use religion and language as crutches to drug and entice the gullible people by using money, the print and electronic media, to manufacture consent through the ballot box.
That consent is given constitutional validity to give it legal sustenance.
What has ended up as election results today is a continuation of that process. It will go on until the people wake up to raise in revolt one day.

Uthungan, if you are correct there should be a Strong Sinhalese liberal movement that is working hard to expose how this Racist propaganda to get votes are turning Sri Lankans into Racists!?
And how this is counterproductive to creating well educated Sri Lankan intellectuals who can work at the highest international standards in order to catch up with the intellectually developed world!?

After all for Racists propaganda to work people must like and subscribe to it yes!?

Ok at least can’t the voters see how the Rajapaksas have turned them against their fellow citizens and plundered the country while people were too busy fighting with each other!?

A national problem cannot be solved by local election tinkering.
The scale of crisises engulfing SL such as corruption, nepotism, poor housing, and schooling neglect, poor health service, escalating prices, unemployment, grid locked transport infrastructure have to be confronted directly by local community involvement and embrace a nation wide vision of non-market alternatives.
What is needed is a democratic, collective approach to counter the forces of profiteering to end the monopoly of corrupt big business profiteers with it’s tentacles in the print and electronic media the banks and judiciary. In fact in all aspects of modern human activity.
That can only be done by a committed set of disciplined leaders in SL coming together cutting across the racial and religious boundaries to work
That will surely happen when the masses take those leaders into confidence and decide to break out to freedom from the capitalist cul-de-sac they have been lured into.

one hand, if the current men punished the bugger putting him jail at the beginning nothing woudl have gone this way. The investigations revealed the bugger is a multi criminal not just he only, but also his 3 bastard sons and his wife too. The minorities in this country are rabid racists and have worked with the colonials masters to get them privileges that was never due to them and got a mentality that they are the majority in this country (Tamils , Christians etc.). and that they have a god given right to demand unreasonable pond of flesh from the majority. Please study the historical behavior of the minorities in this country before passing your judgment on things you don’t know fully.. Because of the tolerance of the Buddhists in this country they have had a upper hand and have always been unreasonable in the their demands.

People should learn how to respect people’s verdict. In this local election, people have voted overwhelmingly in support of MR and so, it is people’s verdict. So, this government should respect it.. Ranil should resign now.. if he has got any respect in politics. There is no secret that he is the one who has done all damage to UNP today.. So he should resign and handover power to SLPP now.. that’s good for the country.. if not for another two years.. UNP will suffer a lot.. UNP is heading for defeat next election.. It is time for Ranil to give power to a good leadership.

poor and poor JVP.. we feel sorry for it. People are not ready to listen to them yet, .. So sorry.. All eloquent talks of AKD have gone down .. It is so sad. people enjoyed his political rhetorics but not his ideas.. People are still ready to give power for more experienced people than for those less experienced ones..

    Jim Softy Dimwit

I know you are stupid as the next stupid one is however could you explain to us the plebs how logical it is to hand over the position of opposition leader and leadership of SLFP given that it is the SLPP which won the the most seats in the local elections?

    Was it a parliamentary election?
While Dr Mahinda (LLD +PhD X 3) is still a member of SLFP he campaigned for SLPP which in itself warrants disciplinary action against the good Doctor. Why hasn’t Sirisena the leader of SLFP taken any action against the renegade, crook and war criminal?

Please bear with me since I am not a dimwit like you I find it difficult to follow the logic.

When are the rest of the MP’s planning to cross over to the other side of the floor?.

When can Duminda Silva expect to be released from prison (if he is indeed in prison)?

I didn’t support JO/SLPP which had a deal with Ranil since early 2016. But, Mr. former President, May the Triple Gem Bless You to withdraw from Constitutional-Assembly and have the backbone to prove that you are against Federal Constitution by deed not by words and to vote against Ranil by participating debates. President showed a surprising valor to stop Ranil from taking the devastating 2/3 vote last November which would otherwise have serious consequences. As more national assets are on the way to be sold and ICPPED too, it is imperative for President to be strong to halt them before Ranil passes them without a vote with your/JO support same as the OMP and Magampura Port.
I wish the President to take over the economy as promised notwithstanding Ranil’s cloudy win which should never be taken as an acceptance to his economic policies.
Mr. former President, I wish to remind you that the “Butcher of the Unitary and Sovereign Sri Lanka” is not the President but Ranil. Therefore, your attempt to weaken the President in support of Ranil will never work as it was his tenacity, which even surprised me, to not to allow Ranil to abolish Executive Presidency that protected Sri Lanka so far. Had Ranil taken over the country in 2015 as planned, the story of Sri Lanka would have been completely different. President saved the country from Ranil single-handed since 2015. Therefore, your attempt to weaken the President will never be successful. He will be protected to be protected Sri Lanka with the blessings of the Sacred Tooth Relics. I stand by the President to give him the necessary support until Ranil is ousted democratically once and for all, which is my only aim since February 2015 though you deviated from the initial goal.

Although SLPP won nearly 250 at village level with 44% from the total votes, they couldn’t shake up UNP’s some 30% vote base as a single party, which is the most disturbing factor national-wise. In January 2015, MR received 47.1 while MS received 51.2% out of 81% voter turnaround. In August 2015 UNP received 46% while UPFA received 42.3% with 77% voter turnaround. This year there was an increase of 700k voters. But at the LG, voter turnaround was 65%, although people were asked to look at it as a referendum. A considerable number of voters have stayed at home. What do I see? The sooner they analyze their weaknesses, UNP will bounce back as obviously with the help of some other parties as LG election is Yahapalanaya’s litmus test for MES and contest as separate parties. They have received a chance to correct themselves two years ahead which is not healthy. Contrary to what MR/JO thinks, in 2019/2020 it is not going to be easy to defeat UNP. MR’s voter base doesn’t change based on any electoral system whether it is single, mixed or PR. In a national election, UNP will work differently not to mention the outside factors which are increasingly influential, may be even more than in 2015 for obvious reasons. If I add Yahapalanaya’s percentage of votes received altogether at this election, it is approx: 52% even without Tamil/Muslim votes which rings warning bells in the ears of any sensible man. I shouldn’t have said this, but if Ranil is elected as the President he will appoint a Tamil as the PM and Sinhalese will never be able to take it back. It is important to keep in mind that the common enemy of the country is Ranil. Therefore, daytime Miguel nighttime Daniel games don’t take the country anywhere.

Mahinda Raja is a textbook case for serious PERSONALITY DISORDER/TWISTED PERSONALITY/SPLIT PERSONALITY. Such people tend to do well in Politics worldwide. Given the depth of stupidity in places like SL. Well documented. Even then, I do not know how this CRIMINAL LUNATIC could stake a claim to Leadership of the Opposition, while his “official” party is still SLFP. That party is in power as a coalition partner. However, if our deeply-flawed, corrupted democracy can find a loophole to do it, fine with me. TNA has proved to be a TOTAL DISASTER for the people in Opposition Leadership. They have no genuine interest in SL as a whole. All can see that. Despite their best efforts, they have no vision outside narrow, ethnic-racial politics, Strictly limited to Tamils in the north and the east. Truth be told, they are a fringe-party that thrives on Tamil racism, division & segregation. Often their loyalty to SL is questioned as well. Latest being their begging the UK to expel a Sri Lankan military diplomat. At the behest of LTTE stray dogs in London. It is almost like TNA & Overseas LTTE Scumbags act in tandem to embolden the fortunes of defeated King Kong’s criminal political outfit from Hambantota. No wonder our country is in such trouble then. Non-stop with this kind of treachery from TNA in the north and Criminal Rajapssa clan in the south. Wahabi Hakeem in the east. Not to mention backboneless, back-stabbing, cunning & self-serving MY3-Ranil in Colombo. WHITER SRI LANKA! GARDEN OF EDEN. ENTRUSTED TO WORTHLESS, INCOMPETENT ROGUES AND CLOWNS!

Sweeping victory for Mahinda is a clear indication of the peoples repulsion and revulsion against the current mob of rogues. Serves them right!

No Thrisu, it is very simple.

People of our paradise, I mean average mind set is proxy Corruption and abusive nature of life.

They dont care about YAHA PALANA or any good quality of life, so long their selfish gains would have been fullfiled.
Last week, I happened to travel to lanka, there, I saw, cost of living is not that high as had been before. Lies blatant lies telecasted by Derana and Hiru and sirasa prostitues, manipulate the grass eating masses.
People i mean majority of people in our coutnry are after any kind of petty advantages.
We from Galle, I dont think anyone would respect higher values of a society.

Bank scam is one thing, but BALLIGE putha did high crime including murderes no just one or two but in dozens, let innocient people went missing, however, people have no what soever respect towards the educated and well mannered people.

Believe or not, you will learn it, if you would close to them.
You have been running a solid life being part of UK, Me in Germany, but we expect law and order to be above anything and everything, but average down their would not care anything, but their badagoosthara wadaya.

Ballige putha Rajapakshe have a big advantage is media men would even go on eating his kakka for rest of his life, for only good thing his term found the stop to the war. Even some would give their wives and females so that Rajapakshe can abuse them ON broad day life- so much is about thirisannu dominated today s srilanka.

Native mate, Keep it up with cutting and pasting Buddha quotes from the internet and some may stick (no pun intended), and you may sometimes not call the Sinhala Buddhists, racists; or may not even hate Dayan Jayathilake. Cheer-up man, every cloud has a silver lining and this cloud over you is making you become a better cut and paster!

Do you know on internet you don’t need to cut and paste, you can just copy and paste.
Since the development of WWW I have made a point to learn the basics, hence I have been using the tools such as copy paste save retrieve delete …. lavishly. What is your problem?
Do you want me to type from Buddha’s book of quotes every time I feel you lack knowledge and other human attributes?

You are typical Tamil/Sinhala stupid .
I am making your life easy. Copy those quotes save them and learn them and use them. You will never be enlightened nor awakened atleast you will have some information to name drop.

What a joke, how can Mahinda get SLFP leadership? Mahinda being a SLFP member did not win under SLFP banner, he supported SLPP, an alliance of many political parties. He violated the SLFP constitution. First of all President as the leader of SLFP should fire all the SLFP members who supported SLPP. With regards to the leader of the opposition, this election is not a Parliamentary election, its a local Govt election. Here again if SLFP (M3 group) and UNP join together (Yahapalana group) will have the control of most of the local governments. Hence even if Mahinda’s argument is correct SLPP need not be given the leader of the opposition position. The only SINGLE PARTY THAT GOT MOST NUMBER OF VOTES IS UNP. Even the President, although has the powers to make changes to the Cabinet, he will have to listen to UNP as UNP got more votes than his own party. This is the same situation as it was shown in the last General Election as well. All what President has to do is to bring all the murderers and crooks before the courts without protecting them.

“Securing more than 50% of the total vote cast in areas other than Tamil and Muslim Majorities” I have seen these sort of claims in several articles by so called pundits. What are they trying to say ?
Those other places are out of Sri Lanka or those votes don’t count . Do these idiots think only Southern voters count?

If any thing no party can win majority in General election or win a presidential election alone . It is even harder than than 2015 General election.

Bravo: A new chapter in “Democracy” has been written in Sri Lanka by the 98.5% “Literates” in that, more than 65% vote turn out decided to introduce “Democratic Slavery” in the WORSHIP of a “TRIBAL LEADER”, who was well known for : Corruption; Fraud; Waste; Nepotism; Dictatorship and Mismanagement. This “Right to Chose Slavery” must now be upheld and recognized by all the other Institutions right up to the level of UN that fight for “Human Rights”. Also, it is recognizable that the next grading (second place) too has been allocated to another “Leader” under whom the country’s “Treasure House” was burgled in a well planned manner and still the Third position given to an “Alliance” led by the country’s President who swept most of the “Investigation Reports and Recommendations” of his own Commissions, under the carpet, in some cases as long as year or even more. These “CHOICES” and “DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS” were all against another political party, viz. JVP that had a prefix word “ANTI” to Corruption, Fraud, Waste,Nepotism and Mismanagement. So isn’t it time for the JVP too to re-design their strategies and take off that prefix “ANTI” and fall in line with the 98.5% “Literate” voters who matter most to some “VICTORY”?

Following Landslide Win In LG Elections Mahinda Wants Opposition Leader’s Post And Chairmanship Of SLFP”
Pan or fire is the choice for New king. That imbecile cut the branch he was sitting on, the UNP. To fetch fire to smoke, he set the house on fire.

    His situation is the worst.

Muslim parties in difficulties of what to do next.

TNA cannot be any more the “Krishna dropping on the Milk Ocean”. Time to wake up and take matter up with IC.

UNP can recover if Mr. Clean cleans himself.

The anti-incumbency factor was at work here. This is so in developing countries facing crises in living costs, food shortages, unemployment, lack of foreign investment, a weak political system, a suspect legal-law and order machinery,
a wildly descending economy and so on. In our case, both main parties in the Govt were at each others throat days before the election. The culprit in this quarrel was Gamarala who saw the coming colours and knew he had no chance. His main goal is to protect the illegal, stolen loot in the now-rich family that started penniless from the backwoods of Polonnaruwa only about two decades ago. Add to that, an uneducated electorate with a short memory but a long vengeful nature.

As for the UNP, the majority Sinhala Buddhist electorate still sees them as pro-minority, anti-Buddhist and Pro-Western. Ranil did nothing in his long years in the party to change that image – and so he suffers, again. Of course, this election by no means changes the equation in the more important Parliamentary strength. Sri Lanka is, once more, in for years of unrest, political mayhem, social disorder and
various forms of violence. Tamils have reason to work to chart a course of their own – denied to them since the British and uncared for in the past two decades.

If Lord Andrew-Loyd Webber was around he would sing “Don’t cry for me Sri Lanka”
BTW, many thanks to the Election Commissioner and his staff for a well conducted election under difficult circumstances.

This result of the PC Election, reminisces me a tale of two proud lions who hunted a wild beast after giving a long chase, started fightng for the carcass. In the meantme,a pack of hyenas who monitored this chase, aproached the carcass & dragged it away. One of the lions in the fray,on seeing this turned to the other & said “Woe betide us,that we should have fought and belabored ourselves only to serve our meat to hyenas” The moral of this tale some time happens……..

it is easy to say MR won because of his appeals to the sinhala buddhists that the country is facing division. in fact he was giving this warning. but his tremendous victory is more than that. the people did not like the way both ranil and ms (mis)handling the affairs of the country. in fact they did not handle anything. they adopted the policy of’let sleeping dogs lie’. substantially telling both govt. parties started fighting with each other and mc released the army man in london; conducted the election very peacefully only to get defeated and worked hard to defeat the unp which brought him to power. he is very simple and polite but that is hardly enough for the people. he mad a big mistake to create the feeling that he is protecting the culprits, maninda and gotha et al. ranil was also a strong suspect in this regard. finally they caught their own ‘financiars’.

MAGE THUNA now knows his place in party politics . He and his MPs who
tried to maintain that it is thanks to them that UNP is in the government
now should look in the mirror ! The situation was such that Ranil would
never have been the prime minister if not for the split in the SLFP caused
by the conspiracy against MARA. And , and , was this MAGE THUNA Ranil
conspiracy a REAL or FAKE ? Suppose the Bud didn’t exist , what would the
election results look ? Who then is expected to lead the opposition ? A
proper analysis is required to explain how MARA’s come back was
facilitated by creating the filthiest and cheapest drama on earth which is
not second to the Bond scam .

  • 4
    0

Let us all sanely analyze the results.
    1. The only single party that got most number of votes is UNP, SLPP is a coalition of many parties.
    2. This election is not a Parliamentary election its only a local government election. It can signal the feeling of the people but it cannot change the composition within the Parliament.
    3. President may have the legal authority to change the Prime Minister, the Opposition Leader and the Cabinet. But since people have clearly stated that they do not like his rule as the President and the Leader of the Government and the Leader of SLFP he does not have the moral authority to make any changes unless UNP agrees to it.
    4. If Mahinda becomes leader of the Opposition, then it would be the end of any new courts being formed, any investigations against him, his family or his gang of thieves being conducted. Above all there is a good chance that President himself may be impeached.
    5. If SLFP, ITAK and UNP cooperate and become one group in the local governments then they will have most number of local governments under their control. If this happens even the feeling or the so called mandate of the people would be interpreted differently than what SLPP proposes.
    6. It is clear that President not only dug a hole for himself, especially protecting the murderers and rogues (Gota for example) and not allowing a just and equal opportunity constitution being passed, giving into the Buddhist Monks and Racist Nationalists, has also dug a hole for UNP which brought him to power. History will judge him as a “Traitorous President”. Further President is surrounded by a gang of thieves who were sent home by voters and he gave them Cabinet posts and got them into the Parliament under the “Pinata Seat” system.

Based on the above there is only one thing the President should do. That is to take immediate action to expedite the legal proceedings under the existing laws against all murderers and rogues and prove what he told all of us beating his chest during the local government campaign. In addition, he can kick out all UNP Ministers who have allegations against them and appoint back bench educated UNP MPs as Ministers for those posts.

      0

      Lanki ,

Put it right . SLPP is the proxy of MARA family and MARA doesn’t
even have a membership in it but he single handedly led it to
victory while not giving up his SLFP membership . Underestimating
his ability won’t help mate ! If the SLFP truly feels it has a future , let
them first strip of his membership before being serious about taking
on him on corruption allegations . It is a national election , its results
does matter and that is why all leaders put all their weights behind
it tirelessly . If the president is not part of a bigger drama , he should
be happy to be with the UNP and he has no life outside of it whoever
leads the UNP ! But UNP under Ranil is not safe . Ranil’s imitating of
MARA to break SLFP for his advantage has failed because he is a lame
horse ! Armed with new power , SLPP is not going to bother about new
or even old courts or any courts about fraud or corruption allegations .
MAGE THUNA + RANIL will now find it easier to backtrack chasing after
MARA . THE GENERAL PUBLIC HAS ACTED AS JUDGES THAT MARA
IS NOT GUILTY . MAGE THUNA+RANIL WON’T DARE CHALLENGE IT
NOW ! The current situation would have been different if the parliament
was dissolved soon after MAGE THUNA won ! Instead , the winners
conspired to bribe the voter with salary increase , price cuts of essentials
by short cut cabinet before going to polls but now look , it has only
backfired ? If you say president dug the hole for himself and for UNP ,
then blame Ranil for pushing UNP into the hole . And don’t forget the
paradise inhabitants are lazy day dreamers and corrupt to the core !
They can not think beyond their nose , they are not used to and that is
why they are craving for someone like MARA and his family . And 50% of
the paradise is blood thirsty racists . They are the ones who voted MARA
despite warnings from patriotic and gentle people of all walks .

    Landslide.

Mr. Dayan,. I WAS WRONG And you were RIGHT. I expected UNP to scrape through because or Ranil’ plot to divide the SLFP. FOR THE FIRST TIME in Sri Lankan politics a party barely 6 months old beat both the UNP and SLFP. It is like the 1970 defeat of the UNP and the 1977 defeat of the SLFP.

Sirisena has no base in the SLFP. Him and useless Kudu Duminda also lost Anuradhapura.. IF SLFP joined MR, UNP’s hiding would have been even bigger. Racist Tamil Tigers want separatism. We are now closer to Eelam that ever before . India and US will create problems.

“Tamil Tigers want separatism. We are now closer to Eelam that ever before . India and US will create problems.”

Tamil Tigers when they were alive VP wanted separation. Hindians killed LTTE, VP, and Tamil Eelam in 2009.

Even Gota guaranteed he had killed all the LTTE with the support of Hindians.

Hindians created the LTTE you knew. Hindians destroyed the LTTE which was a Karadara. If necessary Hindian can create another LTTE or support JVP’s possible third wave of terrorism or combined terror outfit of Tamil/Sinhala youth.

What are you going to do?

You cannot eat Free WiFi. Coconuts over 100 rupees that this moronic regime has to import them. No fertilizer for people. As UNP Minister Ranjan Ramanayake said., because the UNP was in the opposition for over 20 years, they were desperate to steal. So they stole and stole and stole without any development. Rajapakses stole and murdered with development. Rajapakses also defeat facist racist Tamil Tiger pig terrorists. Tamil racists are shouting here. They keep voting for identity parties while benefitting from living with Sinhalese in the south.

It looks Yahapalanaya miserably failed just the way Mahinda chintanaya failed. Mahinda Rajapakse’s win which has been a protest vote against UNP because, now SLFP and breakaway group of SLFP can make a govt. there is enough backing from people. I think president should take note of that or fail. PResident has not been quite honest during these three years and definitely voters disapproved Ranil wickrmasinghe’s dishonesty and theft.

Can some one help me out here. Was the local Govt elections fought on local issues? is there any such thing as local issues in Sri Lanka .? schools, roads, garbage collection etc? other than voting for their uncles and aunts and sisters and brothers as members ?

there is local government, then provincial government and then central government.
who is responsible for what? how does the power devolve?

when it cones to General Elections will the voting habits somewhat differ?

Great question(s). Has the news media been reporting on the manifesto pledges made by the respective parties/job functions at LG levels? or rather urged the voters to focus on the disappointments with the current joint government not delivering on the promises at national levels? In the developed countries it is normal to have parties not done well in the general elections playing important roll in LG/Council levels delivering exceptional services such they can win the trust of the public for the next general elections per say at the state levels based on key performance indicators. How do we ensure we stay focused on the evaluation process of which candidate/party to be suitable for the respective roll play if we are always confused or rather made to be confused with what is in the media or we vote based on other disappointments we have with a party. One has to respect the decision by the people and hope the reasons are not what is discussed above rather what we need to do at the Local Council level to develop the country complementing the national policies. Fully respect the emotional aspect of the voters on national policies but we hope SLPP has the right candidates who can deliver LG requirements/pledges at LG level too.

      • 1
        0

In fact we discuss “national question” at Presidential/Prime Minister level/Provincial Councils/Divisional Councils/Municipalities and we collectively failed to discuss Nation Building in a Collective and Organised way after the war from an economical point of view. The point here is national question should be about unity and human empowerment of each and every citizen in every conceivable way possible to dignify life applying critical path to get there etc. However this has now become “THEM AND US” politics loosing her sovereignty in every way possible at all elected levels. The media need to educate public to evaluate each elections on their own merits then only public will be able to get the services they suppose to receive from those elected bodies. the elected bodies who are suppose to be qualified to make the city planning/national planning accordingly to what is stipulated In their job scope. Respect to the parties who won the minds and hearts of the people but who is overseeing the job functions/performance during the terms? Can media write about each Provincial/Divisional administrative success in delivering what was promised to the people through out our wonderful land please? We need to Bench mark and Rate provincial and divisional council performances on a daily basis. Far too much of attention has been paid to central Goverement scrutiny but not enough at other lower levels which are crucial to Government Departmental success too. I always wonder how our country would have been different if and only for example my father late Mr A Thiagarajah was allowed to be alive and the people were allowed to vote for his election pledges/the economical case he made during the first Development council elections in 1981 in Jaffna.

I want some help from all other lovely readers as to where we published in national press the respective party manifestos/pledges for the Local Council elections please. Did we present any review/evaluation of this manifestos by qualified/experienced economic professionals/engineers with regard to the understanding/scope/criteria involved in running a local Councils and delivering basic services, gap analysys required for long term planning for such services with ever so pressing environmental issue, application of best sustainable technologies for such services, project management, commercials knowledge, efficiency, ethics etc etc please. Looking at various proposals/pledges in water management/waste management/environmental impact evaluation in rural/city planning/project management/land management amongst many others are what I will look for in anyone or party I want to elect for the respective government body in an election. In addition I will look for Election meetings/town hall meetings at individual/community levels such the public seek clarity on issues/proposed solutions and above all a candidate saying please listen to all other parties and understand what is being proposed and choose the best accordingly etc. Never attack an opponent or their supporters as we are all fellow countrymen looking for the best solutions to our problems in a democratic and civilised way. Whoever can make the best case win the day as after the election we are a united community working to implement the plans we have choosen at the election in our vested interest. This is what my Father did with his electorates to make his case heard through reasoning but not through fear or intimidation. It is the “fear and intimidation” of his opponents eventually took his life (along with several other capable leaders) during a very critical election campaign to save our children’s future in our beautiful land.

Following Landslide Win In LG Elections Mahinda Wants Opposition Leader’s Post And Chairmanship Of SLFP

This is what literally meant by the classic English say of “Want the cake and eat it too”. He wants SLFP, the ruling party’s, leadership and opposition leadership, but not PM or EP.

There is news saying that he declined to take up Ranil’s PM Job. Here, he wants the opportunity to destroy Ranil and New King from oppositions, while they two busily maintain the West bent government to ensure his protection from UN electric Chair.

Ranil assured him protection when he was running away from Temple Tree House. But his protection is on New King, who won the EP and worked with America to have the OSIL report ditched, ditched in March 2015. Earlier Ranil failed to have it done with UN SG’s Expert Panel report. He knows for an undetermined period of time, he cannot sit any heavy chairs and draw attention of the world.

There are news said that Younger Brother Prince asked Ranil to take up EP, for that they would help to impeach New King at the parliament. If New King loses EP, he would lose the SLFP leadership. That is the game.

Yes, Slap party won the election. But Old Royals see SLFP leadership as more valuable than EP, the country’s leadership. That tells what kind of government they are planning to put out when they capture the SLFP.
Anybody know what is going in America? Is America planning to crown Brother Prince as the future King?
