The family and friends of Sandeep Gunawardena, the victim who was allegedly knocked down by Megapolis and Western Development Minister Champika Ranawaka has called on President Maithripala Sirisena seeking justice for their friend.

In a petition, the friends and family have requested Sirisena to intervene and ensure that the law of the nation applies to Ranawaka and ensure justice is meted out to the victim, who is still receiving treatment in the ICU following the accident in Rajagiriya.
They have also requested the victim be sent overseas for medical treatment, as there is no improvement in his health situation following the accident.
Even though on March 9, the Colombo Additional Magistrate ordered the police to record a statement from the Minister, the police is yet to record his statement. The court order was issued following a motion filed by the aggrieved party. The Magistrate has also requested for the minister’s telephone records be submitted to the Court within two weeks.
Ranawaka has denied any involvement in the accident, but eye witnesses claim that the vehicle which knocked Sandeep was driven by Ranawaka.

Right at the moment, with all plans being mapped Maharaja Et al to set a number of assisinations one behind the other- warnings should have been given to them – so I really dont think that said minister was driving himself the jeep at that late evening. Anyways, it is hardly possible. But I dont know. I dont live in the country, I just added the probablity is much less. PS: Unless of course the driver of the car recklessly overtaken the bike in a busy and crowded road, and then tried to pull back to the nearside without checking his mirror and ensuring that no vehicles were in the inside lane blocking him. In this case the driver of the car is accountable for reckless driving, as well as the biker for inconsiderate driving and causing a deliberate blockage (for which he also suffered damage). The nature of damage to the car and the bike would have tell tale marks to the circumstances of the collision.

Justice or not, due to scientific evidence, when the case goes to courts, the driver (whoever it is) will be released with a fine for not avoiding an accident. Driving 1000 CC bike on normal roads is a gross violation of law and colliding with a vehicle in the rear is more or less the error of the biker, unless otherwise proved with CCTV footage.
The huge noise heard by the bikers is a master strategy to shake the society and highlight the political link (Driver was or wasn’t Champika R.) and gain sympathy for the driver who is in the hospital as well as the others who were with him. in fact, if the bunch of friends were also driving 1000 CC bikes, they all will be charged soon. :)
That’s what supposed be happening, if everything goes according to the law in the book.

The matter must be investigated and if the minister is found guilty his civic rights must be removed, he must be barred from standing for elections and he must be sentenced to life imprisonment NOT for having met with an accident BUT for having denied it AND for having attempted a cover up AND thereby setting a BAD example to the youth of this nation. Yes its a high profile accident.
But any driver who drives will note that the jeep in content has been damaged in the left back side . i.e.. the motor bike rammed it from the rear…
Probabilities are
1. The jeep merged from a by road onto the main road turning right without proper care and consideration to the other motorist and caused the accident. In any event the motor cyclist should have slowed down when he observed the jeep turning onto the road. CASE IN POINT BOTH DRIVER AND RIDER COULD BE CHARGED FOR NEGLIGENCE.
2. The motor cyclist was riding to fast ( i Have personally witnessed these hi poured Bikes ripping around these roads with no consideration to other motorists). lost control and slammed onto the left back of the jeep.
3. Unlike in the normal world when there is an accident both parties waits till help arrives but in countries like sri lanka if a person is injured . Public generally beats up the other driver and he has no option but drive to nearest police station for his protection . ( PEOPLE DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF ACCIDENT ). One of the victim’s friend said on TV that he went to assault the driver.
Just because the minster was involved this been boated up to a higher level . Police should do their investigation and figure out what went wrong and punish the wrong doer who ever it may and meat out justice through the courts to the victim who ever it may be as soon as possible.
Being practical public can’t just demand that injured guy be taken overseas for treatment because a ministers involved in an accident. Who is going to pay for this … The tax payers.
Whilst i fully agree that the Minsters and their back ups are people killers, it has soften down to a large extent under Yahapalanaya.

I was watching a TV debate titled “New Parliament” the other day, participated by the DIG of Western Province; a Medical Doctor; a Journalist; Mr. Gammanpila of Pivithuru Hela Urumaya and a Deputy Minister Mr. Ajith Perera. The main topic at debate was “rising trends of Crimes and what should be done to arrest the situation”.
In the midst of the debate an interesting revelation was made by Mr. Gammanpila accusing the Police of inaction in relation to this accident where the Minister Champika Ranawake is named a “suspect”. Mr. Gammanpila said ” The Police so far has failed to get even a statement recorded from Mr. Champika Ranawaka and therefore,(the most interesting revelation now) WE HAD TO GO TO COURTS AND GET AN ORDER FROM THE MAGISTRATE TO DIRECT THE POLICE TO RECORD A STATEMENT FROM MR. CHAMPIKA RANAWAKE AND CHECK THE CCTV CAMERAS”. Just imagine the “hidden agenda” of rival politics that play around this incident. Do you think that these types of Politicians are worth the vote of the people to be in Parliament? Does that show his LOVE for the man clinging to life in hospital or pay of his VENGEANCE to a political rival? Would this Parliamentarian come forward in any other case of such an accident that takes place in the country?
So judging from the facts I gathered from the above debate, I suspect, even this letter addressed to the President is the work of these Political Vagabonds who are waiting to grab any opportunity to pay off their grudges against their rivals.

Where I am living Hit runs occur every day, Some times they will never find. So, if they jail all those drivers and go behind those cases, Criminals and killers are outside because, hit and run cases come to the front.
What ever happened, this is a hit from behind. It is Champika Ranawaka who should sue the Driver in the Hospital for hitting his Vehicle from behind and damaging it.
If it was here, the motor bike driver would be sued and Insurance would pay the damages of the vehicles to Champika Ranawaka.
Of course, Champika Ranawaka Will not do that, because he is a Politician and it is not his private vehicle which he bought with what he earned from his Sweat and hard work.

If Sri lankan Law enforcement is law abiding, once the motor bike driver gets well, the govt must sue the motor bike driver for endangering traffic and should recover the cost of careless motorbike riding.
Only a well trained rider should ride a 1000 CC bike on Sri lankan roads.
Because, he can not accelerate on that kind of roads. Sri lanka does not have proper roads for a 1000 CC bike.
