UK Prime Minister David Cameron has called on the government of Sri Lanka to set up an independent inquiry on alleged war crimes during the final stages of the country’s civil war against the Tamil Tiger rebels.
Cameron said on Saturday: “Let me be very clear. If an investigation is not completed by March, then I will use our position on the United Nations human rights council to work with the UN human rights commission and call for a full credible and independent international inquiry.”

This is like asking the war criminals to conduct an investigation against themselves. Mahinda and Gota are the men who gave the orders to the military. That’s why they will never agree to a war crimes inquiry. An international investigation has to be done whether Mahinda agrees or not.
I was very pleased that the CHOGM was held in Sri Lanka because it put the spotlight on the dreadful regime. Mahinda was a fool to agree to host it and this may turn out to be his biggest mistake so far and may lead to his downfall. It was a shame that Manmohan didn’t attend and go to Jaffna. That would have helped put more light on the plight of Tamils. The stupid Tamil Nadu politicians ruined it.
