The video below which is posted by Sri Kugan shows, Tamils were harassed, attacked and blocked their freedom of movement in front of International Community in Jaffna.
Earlier this week, families from Mannar, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi and Jaffna were travelling to the capital Colombo to attend the Samagi Human Rights Festival, also known as the alternate Peoples Forum to stress Commonwealth Values, were also stopped by Military personnel and turned the families back to their home districts.
The Government previously stopped protesters from entering the capital during this year’s UN Human Rights Council session in March, when families of the disappeared attempted to reach Colombo in order to hand over a petition to the UN Headquarters in Colombo.

Clear evidence of double standard by the law enforcement officials.
There is no respect for the elderly, women, children or for the priests. The same Police stood by and watched with amusement and rather encouragingly when another section of the society lead by Buddhist monks damaged public property and attacked peaceful protesters.
On the other hand one cannot argue all these people who are protesting are genuine. There was a war many men/women fought alongside LTTE many more were recruited by force by LTTE. Lives were lost from both side. One cannot generalize all these death are due to SLG fault. In the history of world or in modern day war there is no clean war. Collateral damage is an accepted norm. The point is the war is over. No more death due to conflict.
I don’t understand why SLG is so naive to stop these people. SLG is eternally in denial which will not work in the long. Let these people be heard appoint a commission to look in the matter, give them reasonable explanations pay compensation where applicable. Is that really so hard to do ? In other worlds implement LLRC.
Unless SLG address these issues and stop oppressing minorities eternally, we will be giving fuel to all the Diaspora rats for many years to come.
The question is why does SLG need such an environment to hang on to power? what is it they are trying to hide ?

To borrow from Churchill – the Rajapakses can always be counted to do the right thing after they have exhausted all other possibilities. That’s exactly what they were forced to do with regard to the NPC Elections. Prior to that Sinhala Govts refused to even consider Language parity and the matter of Citizenship to those of recent Indian origin. These are folks who earlier enjoyed the right to franchise. All has to think one think now, Unite and stand or Divide and fall.
I know every one did mistakes in past, thousands of youth died in north and south in last 4 decades. We can cry for the past but nothing will gain. I know this government is terrible, but ordinary people vote for them in all the elections, that is the thing I cannot understand. Even bringing Ranil or UNP in to power is not the answer.
Our country needs a full system change. On that day I think all the Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims can smile.

Well people, as civil demonstrations go, what is shown in this video is quite a civilised affair. Though I do not personally have much empathy with any police, in this instance the police conducted themselves admirably. I have seen worse in the so called top end democracies. There was no baton charge, no water cannons and as far as I could see no mass arrests.
By the way the sit in protest by the women and their lamentations were more powerful and will attain much more international reaction than the mob trying to bulldoze the police.
