Impeachment motion against Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake is to be handed over to Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa within next few days.
The leaders of the ruling coalition parties had decided to bring forth this motion at a party leader’s special meeting yesterday (30).
According to our sources that the motion revolves around the Chief Justice’s “improper behavior” and six other accusations.
The government had collected 118 signatures from MPs for the motion and according to Section 107 of the Constitution, before an impeachment motion is presented to the speaker, at least a third of the members in the parliament must sign the motion, a third being 75 MPs.
The Bribery and Corruption Commission has aleady filed a case against the former National Savings Bank Chairman and the Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake‘s husband, Pradeep Kariyawasam for alleged corruption in the The Finance Company (TFC)-NSB share transaction deal.

Fundamentally this is a political impeachment to consolidate a dictatorship.
Of course they will dig up some dirt; that’s part of the strategy.
Imagine the most corrupt regime in Sri Lanks’s post-independence history trying to play moral policeman!
This is plain politics; nothing else. Time for mass mobilisation.

Shame on the Govt to subject our first female CJ to such abuse and slander. Time has come for the Judiciary and the Bar to bite the bullet. As proven by the dons a prolonged action can produce results. No doubt this action is politically motivated to subjugate the judiciary. This time you will have the support of all intelligent people and the masses.

Considering everything, one must ask one self if one has been above suspicion, for we know that “A Judge, like Caesar’s wife, must be above suspicion,”
As idiom goes “He that lieth down with dogs shall rise up with fleas”

From all signs it looks like the Bros have decided to roast their former favourite – the CJ. No CJ has been impeached or subject to disgrace and ridicule to this extent in the history of this country.
While the Bros could be called revengeful the fact is the CJ decided to go to sleep with dogs, as it were, and she wakes up with ticks – something someone with far less intelligence would have known.
It is sad the office of the CJ has been dragged in the mud far too much. Even if the CJ survives the impeachment, the massive damage done to the institution cannot be repaired. She will be remembered for long for the wrong reasons.

Anyone who obstructs the path of the Maharajah will be destroyed. The audacity with which the regime runs roughshod over the long established democratic institutions of the land shows how much the Sinhala people have been fooled by Rajapaksa. As Prof David says mass mobilisation is the only way to topple the despot.

All the Chief justice’s are the same, to come to the position have to kiss the bosses ass, and if they do not after, they will be kick out the same way they came in.

There will be no ” mass mobilisation” – as long as Ranil is around.

Any mass mobilization will be crushed like Rohana’s teenaged communists in 1971. Until a viable successor emerges that can unify the people like never before, UNP will remain a toothless tiger as neither Ranil nor the the narcissist traitor can beat Mahinda at the ballot box. if I was a betting man I’d lay odds that a Rajapaksa will be residing at Temple Trees for decades, a political dynasty of long duration. Those who dont like it better look for another country to call home.

The Rajapakshe’s are going after women too much. Then Frederica Janz, now the CJ. They are showing the world that they are a male chauvinistic cabal of brothers. The world has changed and women are now holding powerful positions. They are going to stick the knife into the Rajapakshe’s one day.
BTW,the Mahanayaka Theros of both the asgiriya and malwatta chapters have come out against the impeachment. This is important because to see whether they are losing their influence in the country or not.If the Rajapakshe’s go ahead regardless it means that they are taking on the women of the world as well as the upcountry bhuddhist monks, and telling them in no uncertain terms that in future the power to control the country lies with the low country sinhalese who are “aapu minissu”but now numerically superior.
The Rajapakshe’s vs the rest of the world test series, just like the VP and the rest of the world test series that petered out starting in 1989 and ending in 2009 in his amuddi. Will the rajapakshe’s take on the rest of the world more than the 20 years that VP did or will it be a shorter span.If they want to beat VP the dynasty has to continue to fight the world past 2029 in the process making mashed potatoes of the sinhalese. The sinhalese have little tolerance for suffering and will kick them out the way they kicked out Sirimavo who made them suffer.
