Join The ‘Black Friday’ Protest – 11 January – Citizens’ And Trade Union Collective

By Colombo Telegraph

“We strongly protest the government’s action in organising mobs against the peaceful protest march called by the Lawyers’ Collective in demanding that the illegal impeachment motion be withdrawn from parliamentary debate.” says Anton Marcus, the  Convenor of the ‘Citizens’ and Trade Union Collective for Judicial Independence’.

Issuing a statement Anton Marcus  says;”The government thus proved it would not only violate the Constitution of this country, but would also use any sort of thuggery to violate the Constitution for its advantage. A possible chaotic situation due to this intervention by the government we believe was averted, as the Lawyers’ Collective could not be so provoked and also because the police discharged their duties with restraint and with responsibility rarely seen before. It is therefore very clear the government would proceed as decided by them, even using thuggery and force. In such context, we as Citizens’ and Trade Union Collective join the Lawyers’ Collective in declaring tomorrow 11th January, as a “Black Friday” to mark the most bleakest day in our recent history.”

“We thus call upon all citizens to make tomorrow a black day by wearing black, carrying only black parasols/umbrellas, raising black flags where possible, carrying black flags in vehicles and 3 wheelers, etc.” Citizens’ and Trade Union Collective for Judicial Independence further says.

Lawyers themselves are to be blamed for lacking common sense approach. Had they declared in uncertain terms total stoppage of work with the Judicial Officers until this blatantly unlawful exercise launched to silence the entire Judiciary, the situation would have been completely different. Thugs can force them to abandon protest march but they cannot make the Court system to function. Rajapakse don’t care two days strike action and he would even concede 72 hours. The lawyers have proved that the general public is wrong; they lacked common sense approach and have lost the plot. Having declared indefinite strike action they could have easily review the situation in few days time if had a genuine interest to save the judiciary. Well done MR, you manage to use all resources available to achieve your personal goal and to install a stooge CJ who would administer justice as per your whims and fancies.

      Come on, lanka

This magnitude of demonstration would have been unimaginable a year ago. Now the lawyers are leading these limited democratic actions despite intimidations and threats. I have no doubt these demonstrations will become popular and bring about big changes in the country…….next few months will be very interesting!!!

Even the court stops nothing changes as the government is fully supported by 2/3 of the people of this lawful country. Please do not expect a lawful government to betray the people’s sovereignty to bunch of fools led by the west and LTTE diaspora funded group of politicians. MR uses all resources given by the people and he is wise enough to not to suicide doing what you want against the people.

CJ is appointed from the seniority list of the SC judges as Shirani B did. Shirani can prove her innocence even after leaving the SC but she knows that she is definitely going to prison after the bribery hearing that follows. Lawyers please try to save her their if you can.

Who gave the ok for the 18th amendment. What were you all doing at that time? Killing of 700,000 tamils at Killinochchi, followed by a Public HOLIDAY, with crackers, Where is justice for Laasanth?

In my opinion the lawyers should not attend courts at law until the entire issue is resolved, not just boycott for two days. Further they should demand that the IGP resigns from his post before they start work again. Sri Lanka has gone to DOGS.

Hi Ganendra. Don’t be resist. As you know the corrupt governments ruled by majority Sinhalese killed more than 150,000 Sinhalese youth in 1971 and 1989. Those two were clear uprising by the youth against oppressive regimes. I think the figure given by you is somewhat wrong. Whether those who killed were belong to Sinhalese or Tamil ethnicity no just person would condone it. The wrong is wrong and don’t think Sinhalese majority condone killing of youth belongs to mother Lanka, whether they belongs to Sinhalese or Tamil ethnicity. The wrong committed by youth was that they fought against lawlessness and injustice. I agree that allowing of the 18th amendment to the Constitution was probably the biggest blunder made by the current CJ. We don’t know what made her to give clearance to it, yet as you said there is no excuse. Now this poor lady pays for that wrong committed, with her whole judicial career.

MR is prepared to announce Emergency Laws and all 2nd level Leaders
will be placed under arrest. Knowing this the Lawyers have limited
things for 2 days as a trial.
Knowing the mentality of our politics, things will die a natural death,
    is one prediction.

“things will die a natural death, is one prediction.”

I guess, you are talking about Cyril Matthew and JR Jayawardena. I do not think Mervin and Gota would have that comfort, unless they settle in Russia with their good friend Putin.

Baby Face Basil is the Biggest Thief Like Big brother MARA.

MARA stole TSUNAMI fund. Bssil stole DIVINEGUMA 85Billion Rupee fund.

Basil lied to the whole world saying there were ONE MILLION TOURISTS CAME TO SRI LANKA LAST YEAR.

I went to Airport six times last two weeks…..but saw only a hand full of tourists (not more than 40 per flight) landing from planes at the Katunayake airport.

TO GET ONE MILLION TOURISTS PER YEAR….YOU NEED 12 FULL PLANE LOADS (2,600) OF TOURISTS SHOULD LAND IN SRI LANKA EVERY DAY…..365 DAYS PER YEAR.

Therefore Big Alibaba (Basil) like his Big Brother Lied and duped the whole world by telling a BIG LIE THAT SRI LANKA RECEIVED ONE MILLION TOURISTS LAST YEAR.

Now Basil plans to steal Divineguma 85 Billion Rupees.

IT’S TIME TO IMPEACH BASIL RAKAPAKSE FOR LYING TO SRI LANKA AND THE WORLD FOR LYING ON ONE MILLION TOURISTS ARRIVAL IN 2012.

Sri Lanka Police work only if they are given Kappan (Bribes) and hora Kasippu bottles.

I saw to my eyes how in Moratuwa Police station….Police constables all drinking and smelling Kasippu and also behaving fully drunk…three of them while on duty around 6.30 PM.

That’s why they prefer to work as TRAFFIC COPS AS THEY CAN EASILY EARN RUPEES 20,000 IN A DAY.

THE MOST HIGHEST CORRUPTION AND BRIBES ARE TAKING PLAE IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.

I TELL YOU THE TRUTH …..ON ONE POYA DAY MY FRIEND AND I WENT TO POLICE HEADQUARTERS (Havellock park) AND GOT A BOTTLE OF KASIPPU FROM HIS POLICE FRIEND WHO GAVE IT FROM THE BOX IN HIS ROOM.

So that’s why they are inactive……as without Bribes and Kappan…..they don’t work.

This is the true state of police department.
