On Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day event organised by Tamils for Labour in the House of Commons yesterday, Keir Starmer, Leader of the Labour Party, has issued a poignant message through Anneliese Dodds MP, Chair of the Labour Party and Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities, honoring the memory of tens of thousands of Tamil people who lost their lives and suffered egregious international crimes during the final stages of the Sri Lankan War. In a hard-hitting message, Starmer strongly criticized the Sri Lankan Government’s lack of meaningful action in addressing the injustices of the past, highlighting its failure to fulfil promises made to the international community regarding accountability for mass atrocity crimes suffered by the Tamil people in Sri Lanka. He urged the British government to take a leading role in referring the perpetrators of the international crimes committed against Tamils to the International Criminal Court.
Furthermore, Starmer reiterated the importance of respecting and protecting the rights of the Tamil people, emphasizing the need for lasting peace, reconciliation, and a comprehensive political solution for the Tamil people in Sri Lanka.

As for the assassination of the Rajiv it was political suicide. Despite all the treachery and what the IPKF did to the civilian Thamizh population it was no excuse to assassinate a former head a powerful neighbouring state, especially when his mother Indira Gandhi, for her own reasons helped the EezhamThamizh cause so much and Rajiv too at the beginning, until he started to listen to the largely anti Thamizh Mafia that was running the Indian foreign service. By this one act a great disservice was done to the just cause of the Eezham Thamizh and Indian neutrality changed they wanted to destroy the LTTE and it was the Eezham Thamizh who suffered from this stupid act. When fighting for your freedom, however much you get provoked or whatever injustices that were meted out to you and your people, you do not assassinate leaders of former leaders of powerful states. Especially when it is your neigbour, that can decide on your fate as seen in May 2009. However, this does not excuse a Chingkalla naval cadet who attempted the same during a parade but failed but was treated as a heri, jailed only for a certain period and then paroled and became a member of parliament, what was his excuse and why was he treated as hero with a very lenient punishment?
