Let Them Dream Peacefully

By Noel Nadesan

Dr Noel Nadesan

Right now Sri Lanka is facing three offensives – and all three have come from abroad with the Tamil Diaspora trying their best to embarrass the Sri Lankan government. The first is the anti-Sri Lanka resolution passed by the UN Human Rights Council at its 25th session in Geneva. This resolution insisting on an international investigation into allegations of war crimes in the final phases of the civil war in 2009 has pleased the Tamil Diaspora. They think they have scored a victory against the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL). But GOSL has bluntly refused to go along with the UNHRC resolution. What the Diaspora does not realize (or does not publicize) is that the economic consequences of any sanctions will hurt the Tamil people in the North and south more than the Government.

GOSL is working on its own formula – possibly a Truth Commission on S. African lines – which will weaken the UNHRC move as the GOSL has shown a willingness to conduct an investigation of its own.

The second is the abortive attempt by small group ex LTTE to revive the violent struggle in the post-may 2009  period. Informed journalists such as DBS Jeyaraj have identified the Nediyavan  group of Norway as the key operator who has financed and directed operations from abroad.  GOSL reacted swiftly to target all three thus ending the futile attempt of the Diaspora to achieve their goal. It is clear that the Government forces are on full alert and the ready response to beat futile attempt is a clear warning to the Tamil Diaspora that they cannot gain anything significant by financing and directing militancy except causing more chaos and suffering to Tamils in Sri Lanka

Third, the Tamil Diaspora has been working overtime to hit back at GOSL in various ways. But the GOSL has taken the Diaspora by surprise when it listed 16 organisations as terrorist outfits. This is a move to nip in the bud any organized moves by the Diaspora to destabilize Sri Lanka. To some extent this move has given the GOSL the upper hand. It has also crippled the free access to Sri Lankan agents in of the Tamil Diaspora. I personally think all these Diaspora organization not only banned but also initiating a inquiry against arming and financing a war against t Sri Lankan people many years ago.

The fact that the killing of the three agents of the Diaspora did not provoke a public outrage proves that any attempt to revive terrorism will not gain any sympathy either abroad or in Sri Lanka. In fact, various reports agree that the vast amount of information came from the Sri Lankan Tamils in the North who are wary of the rise of violence again.

The West and Pro LTTE Diaspora fronts have one thing common: they have no sympathy for the victims of their foolish adventures. The consequences of all their actions will have to be borne by the Tamil civilians who have had a gutful of violence. The GOSL forces are quite pleased that  the Tamil community, by and  large, have responded favorably to  their request for information and cooperation. As usual the Tamil Diaspora is going down the wrong path. They have not calculated their options realistically. Whatever emotions there are left over it is not emotions that is going to win the day. The chances of winning gains for the Tamil people are greater if the Diaspora can change its tactics and look for positive engagement with the GOSL.

We have to seriously ask west and LTTE front organisation to leave the Sri Lankan s to sort their problem because that is the only way forward to permanent peace in our Island.

Guns and goons occupied the land till May 2009.Violence of the south and north ruined the nation. There were no positive gains in either the JVP insurrections or the Tamil separatist  violence. If the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna insurrection succeeded in Sri Lanka, then most probably we would have ended up like another North Korea. I believe Rohana Wijeweera would have been be worse than Kim Il-sung who after the Korean War, introduced the personal philosophy of Juche, or self-reliance, which became a guiding light for North Korea’s politics. Decades of this rigid state-controlled system have led to stagnation and a leadership dependent on the cult of personality.

In 1971, unable to control the insurrection, Sri Lanka had to get help from India; unfortunately many young people were killed. Many mothers lost their children. Mrs Srimavo Bandaranaike led government in Sri Lanka, not only rehabilitated  many militants but  also let many leaders back into the community believing they all respect democracy and power of the ballot paper.

In 1987 the same leaders started another insurrection while government battling with Tamil militancy in north and east during 87-90, more young militants, and defence personal and innocent people were killed. The Government during the time had crushed the JVP leadership without mercy, made no prisoner from the leadership. But there were not many complaining about human right violation because cold war clouds covered over the entire horizon during the time.  Subsequently thirty years of Tamil militancy was brought to end last may 2009 by military means.

I am not blind supporter of the government. Governments are all over the world are not only imperfect but also inefficient, but alternative to a government is chaos, destruction of lives and properties. Foreign intervention in many countries whatever those governments were imperfect, interference by other countries in last 60 years turned into disastrous consequences. The Tamil people of the North are being kept in the dark about the unrest and instability in places like Kosovo, South Sudan and East Timor by local Tamil Medias

Last provincial election results shows people are longing for the peace and order provided by the current government. President Mahinda Rajapaksa achieved in Sri Lanka last 5 years was stability and established law and order that many presidents and government were not able to provide  to citizens of Sri Lanka for many years that why he is being elected every election from 2006 to today .

During last presidential election I was travelling south of Sri Lanka and talking to many Sinhala workers, farmer and fisher folks and they all said was he was the man who stopped killing our sons. One friend of mine with his wife and  children  were  driving from Kandy to Colombo,  said to me ‘Machan,  we were not  able to come to  Colombo together as a  family before. We could only come either my wife with son or daughter or me with son or daughter because of bomb blasts in Colombo.’ I asked him, ‘how come all the people forgot this so soon. He replied ‘ No, No ordinary people remember this  and voting to Mr Mahinda Rajapaksa all along’

The majority of the Sri Lankan people are grateful to the Government for removing terrorism from the country. This is specially so in the border villages in the Districts of Anuradhapura, Tricomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara. The rural Sinhala people will perceive the actions of the west and the Diaspora as anti-Sinhala.  The west and the diaspora are therefore really sabotaging any real reconciliation between the communities. They are looking only to fulfil their political and emotional agenda.

I thought that was true if you are a wealthy Sinhalese or Tamil you can send your children abroad but ordinary people did not have choice. Poor Tamil send to LTTE and Sinhalese send to army all these years before May 2009.

Now after three decades, ordinary Tamils, Muslims and Sinhalese are sleeping peacefully at their home with their children beside them and dreaming of their future but some people outside Sri Lanka do not like their peaceful dreams.

Nothing hurts like the truth Noel. Brace for a barrage of brick-bats on your excellent analysis from diaspora – as well as well as other ani-Sri Lanka elements in the coming days. On the other hand, why worry? Dogs bark, but the caravan rolls on, goes the saying.

A good summary of the state of affairs. Dr Nadesan remind us all that it is only a minority of Tamils abroad who support terror. And yet he is not ‘a blind supporter of the Government’ either. It’s because of people like him that there is still hope for Sri Lanka.

      Tut, tut, tut, ….

”Five years after the end of the war, Sri Lanka remains a post-war society that has yet to make the transition to a post-conflict society. While the violence has ceased, the political roots of the conflict that gave rise to war remain to be addressed. There continues to be extreme political polarization between the government and the Tamil and, more recently, the Muslim polity. The government has in recent weeks being talking in terms of the revival of the LTTE and Tamil separatism. In recent months, a new front has opened up with the renewed targeting of the Muslim minority, which shows that the build-up of extremist Sinhalese animosity against them, has not stopped. The attacks against the Muslims have not enjoyed popular support, but they are becoming regular enough to sow seeds of fear and apprehension within the Muslim community. ………….” – https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/making-the-best-of-the-second-best-solution/

      Dr. Nadeshan,

what is the message of the current article ?

Truth is we have no more civil war in the country. But honestly saying, do we the folks have peace in our mind ? No, the majority of us are scared of opening our voices today than no times in the past. At the time war was at its height, people had the confindence to speak heart out. Today, alone the facts that not many in educated classes, specially the Uni dons and other senior profesisonals to stay mum – as if crocodiles are fed with clumps of clay ???

Do we have justice, law and order, fair verdicts for any kind of investigations under the rule of Rajapakshe oligarchs ?

We can only pray for a better future – knowing the universal franchise of the people have been abused by Rajapakshes as nothing would/could help any further.

Meeharaka (nation´s abusive president ever had) is again on a tour to Middle east, but not even paying any concerns of the locals trapped in refugee camps in Middle east countries. Instead of using people´s funds for his pvt trips, it is worth thinking of offering one flight load to allow those poor housemaid enabling return to the country.

This is my wish, if I had enough sums, I would have done the job offering each of those house maid women just roaming in refugee camps of middles their return to the country. Then even if they have nothing to eat, could die on their own soil, sharing the grief with lovely ones

This Noel cannot write a proper sentence in English has published this piece in his name. It must have been written for him by Gota’s Manike at the MOD or by a subcontracted propagandist of the EAM. Who knows the posterior speaker Prof Gamini Peiris would have written this for him.

Will Noel Natuma spell out the achievement of the government on the peace front and as to why the government is panicking after the UN resolution to prop up an anti-LTTE campaign, having claimed outright victory over the group with much fun-fare.

Religion makes you a ignorant f**k that will never understand that without the illumination there would be no modern democracy, no human rights and no development in science and human condition.

This Dr Noel Nadesan is a Sri Lankan shill like Kamalesh Sharma of the Commonwealth:

I won’t be surprised if he is on the payroll of Sri Lanka to discredit Tamils and their fight for autonomy, freedom and self respect. Shameless fellow.

This fellow is really an axe handle among Tamils: All self respecting Tamils must distance themselves from this stooge of Sri Lanka.

He can twist and turn facts to suit the agenda of Sinhala supremacists while the international community is trying to find justice for the genocide of 147,000 innocent Tamils.

You can compare him with Karuna Amman.

“Dr Noel Nadesan graduated from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka as a Veterinary Surgeon.

Later Dr Nadesan received a post graduate degree in Biotechnology and obtained a Masters of Applied Science degree from the University of New South Wales, Australia.

In 1984, after moving to Tamilnadu, India, Dr Nadesan served three years as Secretary for a Charity Organization he setup called “Medical Unit”, a service that provided medical care for over 100,000 Tamil refugees in Tamilnadu, India.

From 1987 to 1997 Dr Nadesan helped to establish the ‘Ceylon Tamil Refugee Organisation’ to assist with the onshore Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka.

Dr Nadesan passionately works to assist the displaced and war affected civilians in Sri Lanka, by providing clothing, College Scholarships, financial support, and even established the rural Hospital at Eluvaitivu, with his time, resources, and dedication”.

So I am laughing all the way to the Bank when someone makes a clever remark giving me a chance to respond.

Here I dont think you are right, Mr. Paul :(.

One can also complete doctorates even if you are not well conversant in English. So even we feel that the current article passes no clear message about the ground realities of the country, must not attack their doctorates.

Non-English speaking countries in Europe: most of their politicians have Dr titles; many of them cant speak English, German and French ministers use their interpreters when taking part in international forums. English is just one of the European langauges used in Europe. And today, millions in the UK have no jobs regardless of their uni qualifications.

By looking @ the CV of Dr.Nadesan that you have provided, him moving to Thamil Nadu in 1984 makes me curious. That was the time the LTTE activities were in full swing with Karuna and KP playing major roles, wasn’t it?. I might be wrong and I apologise if I am.

Isn’t it true that the govt. has been restricting and sometimes banning NGO’s as collaborators of ‘terrorist’ groups?. So, one does not have to be a scientist to figure out what ‘Nada’s’ true intentions were.

What a despicable joker! Are the world community to believe what DBS Jeyaraj of all persons writes. This writer, Nadesan was publishing a newspaper in Tamil to be circulated in foreign countries through Tamil spice shops and restaurants. The story goes that Tamil volunteers would on specified days come in and take away all these papers to be thrown into bins where rubbish was collected for recycling. So much for his contribution towards the environment. It is also well known that he in the night that tens of thousands of innocent Tamils were massacred in May 2009 celebrated the occassion with an additional drink. Besides being Tamils being wantonly killed, they were also human beings. Disgraceful. Bensen

Nadesan is a lackey of this regime which has invented this tale of “LTTE resurgence” in northern lanka merely to continue the persecution and subjugation of the tamil citizens, and four tamil males have been killed in the process.

He apparently earlier swallowed the tale of “LTTE forcing female cadres to jump from trees to obtain abortion” – without suffering broken/dislocated ankles, smashed knees, fractured coccyx & necks of femurs, fractures of ribs, neck vertebrae & skulls, contusions, abrasions & lacerations etc. while being a Vet!!
This shows either his gullibility or stupidity.

Tamils abroad are in touch with kith & kin back home, and knowing the truth of the Terror Regime, tell this to the world, and are promptly labelled “LTTE supporters/proxies” by the regime and are now “proscribed”.

To me Noel Nadeson is credible despite the brickbats and insults of the Tamil diaspora representatives. In fact it is the Tamil diaspora who are slowly but surely losing their credibility in CT. That is a problem for some of us who are fighting to wrest back the fundamental rights of citizens usurped by this government. Can we not trust the opinions of the Tamil commentators any more?

Bravo; we need many like you to talk about the reality in Sri Lanka today. You have done a good job comparing Post and Pre 2009 period of Sri Lanka. Noel, this morning I wrote to “HINDU” about the need to have people like you to represent Tamils in Sri Lanka. It is a rarity when the Spin doctors of diaspora carry the day.

It is a rarity when the Spin doctors of diaspora carry the day.

Spin Doctors for Diaspora too? You mean there are rumps for Diaspora too?

That is a new thing in the revival story of the LTTE rumps! You are a great person man!

      Which organization is this diaspora?

    Mental Dr.Nadesan:

The first question is how much were you paid by GOSL to write this GARBAGE.

***Right now Sri Lanka is facing three offensives – and all three have come from abroad with the Tamil Diaspora trying their best to embarrass the Sri Lankan government.

So this Three Pronged attack by Tamil Tamil & Tamil on innocent and Civilised GOSL has come from abroad.
Of course you idiot where else can it come from other than abroad as any dissent from within is dealt with brutally as even elected opposition is no longer safe to visit parts of Sinhala Lanka.

But a tornado is about to hit Sinhala Lanka after the election in Mother India and even you will be swept out into the sea.
You are grateful for GOSL for getting rid of Thirty Years of Struggle for freedom from Sinhalese Tyranny but have never heard of 64 years of State Terrorism.
You have a Doctorate which is not worth a penny and why don’t you write a paper on STATE TERRORISM for you Professorship from the Institute of HAMBANTHOTA you f..l.

“The first is the anti-Sri Lanka resolution passed by the UN Human Rights Council at its 25th session in Geneva”….

Well, Dok, you are wonderful! It was NOT against Sri Lanka, but those who are in the government, who conducted the war. readers are smarter than you, Nayal Nadeasan.

    • 4
      2

Rm. Rohan says It was NOT against Sri Lanka, but those who are in the government, who conducted the war.

But if, following this resolution, some countries apply sanctions etc., it hits Sri Lankans, ie., Tmils, Sinhalese etc, and not who are in the government. It will hit the poor people hardest, as the rich and powerful can always get by or even immigrate to the West. The poor in Sri Lanka are in fact the people in the Vanni.

Dr. Nadesan is correct in saying that the UNHRC and boycott Lanka programs pushed forward by some sections of the Diaspora, (and some Western politicians who pretend to support the Tamils to get their vote), will create more hurt to Tamils. It will also diminish the good relations that exist in the South (e.g., Colombo), where a vibrant multi-ethnic society has come into being.

  • 2
    2

Dr. Nadesan you are correct only to an extent. DSB Jeyaraj is today a paid servant of the Government of Sri Lanka. Most of us use to read his column before he became a paid servant. Whose fault it is if LTTE is raising its head again? You have missed to analyze this point, why? Are you a paid servant too? We hated LTTE and expected Rajapakse to take the opportunity to bring about true peace to the country. As one of the comments reads, today even the Sinhalese are scared to open their mouth against the lawlessness and atrocities that are being committed. Its very true that all the time the Diaspora carries the Tiger flag and protest its the common people in Sri Lanka, especially the Tamils who suffer, but on the other hand what has the Government of SRi Lanka done so that no one will ever carry a Tiger flag again? NOthing!

Guns and goons occupied the land till May 2009……… I was travelling south of Sri Lanka and talking to many Sinhala workers, farmer and fisher folks and they all said was he was the man who stopped killing our sons

I think Noel Nadesan is talking about Eraj Fernando. When Eraj takes the gun, all others have to drop it down.

    Dear Dr Nadesan

“Right now Sri Lanka is facing three offensives – and all three have come from abroad with the Tamil Diaspora trying their best to …..embarrass the Sri Lankan government”

so we are not talking about regime change?
    —————-
some of the hilarious and idiotic statement from your article

This resolution insisting on an international investigation into allegations of war crimes in the final phases of the civil war in 2009 has pleased the Tamil Diaspora. “….They think they have scored a victory against the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL)”.

Really Tamil diaspora brought the resolution against Sri Lanka?
    ————————
“Informed journalists such as DBS Jeyaraj..” come on?

GOSL is working on its own formula – possibly a Truth Commission on S. African lines –

“which will weaken the UNHRC move as the GOSL has shown a willingness to conduct an investigation of its own.”

GOSL is working on this and will keep working on this. I hear they are now not keen on SA involvement

yo have not explained how will this weaken the UNHRC move? the resolution is already passed?
    ———————

“The chances of winning gains for the Tamil people are greater if the Diaspora can change its tactics and look for positive engagement with the GOSL.”

The GOSL is putting as many stumbling blocks as possibel against the democratically elected NPC and refuse to engae with them. First GOSL should prove that they are willing to accept the verdict of the Tamil people in the NE.
    ——————————————-
” Last provincial election results shows people are longing for the peace and order provided by the current government. President Mahinda Rajapaksa achieved in Sri Lanka last 5 years was stability and established law and order that many presidents and government were not able to provide to citizens of Sri Lanka for many years that why he is being elected every election from 2006 to today .”

there is no law and order anywhere in Sri Lanka, but the law as ordered by Rajapakses.
    ——————————————–
“Machan, we were not able to come to Colombo together as a family before.”

Machan Tamils come to Colombo even today to inquire about their missing loved ones.

    so here we go Noel.

Nadesan was bought over by Rajapaksa about two or three years ago and he is quoting DBS Jeyaraj who was bought over about six months ago. Tamils like Nadesan, DBS, Dogleash and others of their ilk have no self respect and do not have the welfare of their fellow tamils in their hears.

Five years of peace? Peace for whom? The Sinhalese have peace but the tamils are living under a military rule with fear and worry. What about those whose sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers and children who were massacred by the Sinhala military? Are they living happily? People like Nadesan are a curse on the tamils.

    Noel Nadesan:

So, what you are telling us is that by voting in favour of the TNA, and not the SL regime, the Tamils in the North have embraced the regime with open arms. Where did you get your PhD sir?

Even those who behave dubiously like your pet Rajapakse does not expose himself in a silly way that you have shown yourself to be. He smiles exquisitely to fool people and some do buy that anyway but all I can see from your writing is a fool exposing himself. Now to the subject matter.

I wish the diaspora has the sort of influence you allege it has. At the height of the war, the diaspora demonstrated profusely to halt the war but the western nations paid very little notice. Even the UN turned the other way. Going a step further, the diaspora was even shell-shocked that a recalcitrant regime got patted for the victory, despite the loud protestations from the diaspora. The constant calls by and from the diaspora to get the regime to answer for its alleged crimes took a winding road.

Realistically speaking, if the diaspora had the level of influence that you suggest have influenced the west, then the resolution that was passed this year should have happened a long time ago. The watered down advice in previous years had, in fact, infuriated the Tamils for apparently the west cuddling with the regime. Truth be told, there were two implicit factors that finally got to this stage. One, the west realised that there is more than ample evidence to show that this is a very murderous and bloody regime, despite all the denials by it. No one seems to believe the regime anymore. So, it has to send messengers like you to take up that job. Second, the chorus of voices that have called for the regime to be investigated are those who have been independently voicing their disgust at the regime’s lies and denials. They, including bodies, have enough ingenuity to decide for themselves on what to do. In this the contribution from the diaspora is not the only factor. It has become crystal clear that the regime is hiding the truth and it is trying to hoodwink the world into disregarding the atrocities it has committed.

The regime had tried everything in its arsenal to influence the world to turn away from the predicament it faces but on ALL fronts, the world has realised that this regime is literally a liar. So, what that makes of you anyway?

I wish that the Tamils in the North are as cosy as you make them out to be but unfortunately they are not. When the NPC passed a resolution supporting the UN resolution, did it look like that they are a happy lot? Of course, it is also the failure of goons like you to knock the heads of the regime to be transparent with the accountability and reconciliation issues and show to the world that the regime has moved on the issues. Today, there will be no need for you to express your disgust against the diaspora. The regime could have easily sidelined the diaspora had it kept its promises on devolution, accountability and reconciliation. It is when the regime started to scuttle on these issues that the diaspora voices got stronger. So, chiding the diaspora serves no purpose at all.

The gruesome atrocities that have surfaced as having been committed by this regime cannot and should not escape from scrutiny. The gravity and with the distressful level of impunity that these crimes were committed including the bombing of hospitals and raping of defenseless women are very degrading crimes and your support of such a dastardly regime shows you are a no lesser animal than the regime. What peace are they enjoying in the North? You saw clearly what happened when their outpouring grief was very visible during PM Cameron’s visit there.

With the huge army presence and literally breathing their presence at every aspect of the life in the North, the regime has to be a better story-teller of its three LTTE resurgent cadres. Coming immediately after the resolution, such a knee-jerk reaction was already expected. Who can forget the “humanitarian” operation and “zero” civilian casualties this regime wanted everyone to believe. The regime’s actions have been expected and if that is the upper-hand that you are talking about, you are a fool. Whether anyone in the diaspora is implicated or not, the actions against this regime will continue. The grave and bloody atrocities committed by this regime is independently viewed as opposed to what this regime talks of the diaspora. It will take its own course.

Enjoy your fruits and harvest as long as you can. Those with heavy hearts for the atrocities committed by this regime, there can be no peace. For a meagre few hundred diaspora members being cited, you and the regime think all will quietly fade. The diaspora is a lot, lot more than that. The Tamilnadu factor is still glowing. You are simply making fools of yourselves. Instead of doing the right thing on issues that face the country, you have times and again proved to be silly and foolish.

    Dr. Nadesan,

Last time you wrote, now there is KFC in Jaffna, and therefore Tamils problem is solved.

    I asked you a question.

If you have a choice to live in a prison with three good meals a day and a TV to watch all day OR you are free out in the village, but no job, no money, and eat at relatives and friends.

You did not answer…. but I see that you prefer to live in jail with good food.

Ask your children? whats their choice?

The pro LTTE diaspora outside Sri Lanka are desperately trying to create a world where they can enjoy the wealth of the developed world and also have free access to their native land. Most of them realise that they are still a minority outside Sri Lanka and I dare say ‘second class’ citizens struggling to survive in the white mans world and culture. Put bluntly, they are a frustrated and desperate lot. Not an enviable position to be in – destined to live in no mans land.

Dr Noel Nadesan has become another story teller in addition to Ajith Rohana, DBSJ and the likes. Ajith Rohana has secured a future DIG portfolio for making up unbelievable police stories for every death in custody. Our Dr. Nadesan believed all the Gopi story and seems very appreciative of those four staged deaths. Surprised to realize that even a simple common sense is lacking in his cock and bull story. What a pathetic and wasteful education some people can have.

This fellow is a disgrace to the Tamil Community. He has no empathy for the 70 000 innocent Tamils that were forced into a supposedly no fire zone and massacred. What happened in 2009 cannot be wished away there must be
accountability and the perpetrators punished. Those responsible must be charged for war crimes and crimes against
humanity. That is the wish of the. Tamil Diaspora and the day will come when those responsible will be dragged to
    International Criminal Courting The Hague.

Indians and Sri Lankans are not ruling the world, but the West. The racist Rajapaksa regime is dreaming to fool the diaspora who have established well in the West. I never supported the LTTE, and my name is not in the Gazette. Why the Rajapaksa regime has refused to accept my dual citizenship? The answer is very clear “Sri Lanka is rule by racist regime.” Not only me, there are many Tamils in the same situation; we were born as Tamils that was the only crime we committed. The regime’s ignorance, stupidity and arrogance will cost the country. It is underestimating the West and diaspora. Remember, the West defeated Germans, Japanese and all most Russians too. Having economic success doesn’t mean guaranteed superpower status. Ruling the world is beyond economic success. Chinese, Indians, and the other Asians do not have what it takes to rule the world for another 100-300 years. After many generations it may possible for the Asians to rule the world; if the future generations are smart enough to understand the unity in Asia. Germany and Japan were very successful, but Germany was bombed twice and two atomic bombs were dropped in Japan. That was it, those two countries surrendered unconditionally. And those two countries can’t declare war on any country; because their constitutions do not allow it. In fact, if those two countries don’t have such constitutions the West wouldn’t have allowed to come up.

I urge you to read my response to the article “Return of the past?” published in the Sunday Leader, in Sri Lanka, dated 25th of April 2014.

New Delhi felt threatened by two major issues in the 60′s-70′s; one was Tamil Nadu’s self-determination drive; the other one was Sri Lanka’s foreign policy. President J R Jayewardene increased Sri Lanka’s bilateral cooperation with the United States to develop Sri Lanka. Therefore, New Delhi decided to hijack the Sri Lanka’s internal conflict to deal with the Sri Lanka’s foreign policy and Tamil Nadu Nadu’s self-determination drive. New Delhi trained young Tamils and supplied arms to fight against the Sri Lankan government under the divide and conquer strategy; and also to undermine the Tamils by turning them as terrorist groups. In the past history Tamils had done well that is why the Tamil language is more widely spoken in Asia than Hindi or any other Asian language. Somehow Tamils in Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka got fooled by New Delhi and accepted arms to fight against the Sri Lankan government. Chief Minister M G Ramachandran was an actor didn’t see the motive behind New Delhi’s deal. Prabhakaran did not see either, because he did not even pass 10th grade. The LTTE was created to act as India’s puppet; however that didn’t work, because of the Tamil diaspora.

The West wanted a foothold in Sri Lanka, so it decided to influence the diaspora and pushed the LTTE to fight against the IPKF. India felt devastated, and was desperate to ban the LTTE and control the situation. The only way to bring the LTTE under control is by its radical approach to the situation. Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination created a pathway to ban the LTTE, not only in India, but around the world. Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination helped India to ban the LTTE and control the situation. Here comes the billion dollar question. Who was really behind the assassination? Why couldn’t the Indian intelligence (RAW) prevent the assassination? Was it necessary evil to allow Rajiv Gandhi to die, in order to save India by banning the LTTE which turned against India, and decided to work with the Western Countries to achieve its goal so called “Tamil Eelam”? I let you to answer. Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed his life for the Congress’ stupidity. Indira Gandhi should not have created the Tamil armed groups to deal with the Sri Lanka’s foreign policy.

The Tamils armed groups caused too much suffering to the people in the Subcontinent, especially the LTTE. Creating the Tamil arms groups was one of the worst political blunders in the history of India since the independence. It took the Tamils backward, and brought a disgrace to the region. Indira Gandhi should have given an ultimatum to the Sri Lankan government and dealt with it accordingly, as Russia did with Ukraine. I am a great fan of Nelson Mandela than Mahatma Gandhi, because Nelson Mandela dealt with Whites and Black Africans. Mahatma Gandhi fought against the British well, but didn’t do that well with his fellow Indians. Gandhi’s blunder led to the creation of Pakistan. During the British rule the Indian Subcontinent had the largest population than any other region in the world. The British was fearful of that and wanted to divide India badly. And the British had succeeded in their divide and conquer strategy, because of Gandhi’s inability to deal with his own people. Mahatma Gandhi knew what had been done by the British, but gutless and clueless to deal with his own fellow countrymen. The author articulates that Mahatma Gandhi’s moments just before the partition of India was helpless, but reluctantly approved to divide India. Finally, Mahatma Gandhi got shot for the decision he never masterminded or approved wholeheartedly. Gandhi’s leadership style is still dominating India, but undermining the Subcontinent. Would Modi brake this ugly side of Gandhi continuing? Only time will tell.

New Delhi clearly understood the impact of the refugees’ inflows by creating a civil war in Sri Lanka; yet it has not changed the policy. Even as I write India is not a signatory to the Geneva Convention of 1951 that recognises the rights of refugees. According to PUCL, there are at least 120,000 refugees in Tamil Nadu’s open and special camps. Most of them are under surveillance in Tamil Nadu in exchange for basic survival in general camps. Ironically, the number of people who have been in the special camps for more three years without legal representation is not known in the largest democratic country. The open camps are with restriction of movement. People can go out for work after three levels of police clearance. The special camp inmates don’t have the meagre facilities that prisoners in regular jails do like parole, remissions, visits of relatives and friends, work with wages and access to a library. The Sri Lankan Tamils are falsely accused as deadly LTTE and they were locked in the special camps, however these inmates had no criminal cases against them; inmates are heavily guarded by the armed forces and the police.

In some cases, when they were released through judicial orders whether by way of acquittal or securing bail, the Tamil Nadu police invoked the Foreigners Act to imprison them. This Act permits the state and the central government to lock up foreigners in these high-security prisons; euphemistically called special camps and to throw away the key and forget them. The Tamil Nadu’s special camps are India’s Guantanamo Bay; but many people know little or nothing about it, especially the Tamil diaspora. PUCL has been demanding that these special camps be closed as they constitute a huge human rights abuse. The unwell inmates had been deprived of proper food and healthcare. Nearly 80% of the criminal cases against the inmates end up in acquittals but by that time they have already spent about four years in special camps. Children born in India whose one parent is a Tamil from Tamil Nadu can get citizenship; if both parents are Sri Lankan then children do not get Indian citizenship. The refugees have been in Tamil Nadu for 30 years; 90% of them still haven’t got citizenship. The Tamils who live in Canada are enjoying the refugees’ rights. Almost the same numbers of Sri Lankan Tamils reside in India as an indefinable people; but foreigners under the Foreigners’ Act. This is the largest democratic country’s democracy.

The West is extremely powerful and constantly trying to divide the other parts of the world to keep its power. The West has gone through the First and Second World Wars without having to counterattack any other superpowers dividing them. How in this earth the East is going to unite while we have dangerous leaders among us and the powerful West is constantly doing everything to divide us? Therefore, the East becoming a powerful region is questionable. The Western countries have been helping the Tamils when the Sinhalese thugs kicked them out from their birth places. And the Indians who created the civil war and made them refugees don’t even treat them equally. The other Asian didn’t do much either. The subcontinent has the dangerous leaders. The other Asian countries leaders are not far off from those dangerous Subcontinent leaders. Since I started Asia Unites nobody bothered to contribute even one dollar. Almost one year has gone; but no response from anyone. It says a lot about the West’s power to isolate me from others and the Asians’ dangerous mind-set, and their desired ideology to be remained divided. I think I am wasting my time with the Asians.

The Asians’ actions are telling me that they are not meant to live equally or above the West; they are born to live under the West. The Sri Lankan and Indian leaders must watch carefully their ignorance towards Tamils, because the Tamils will become the representative of the West in South Asia; as Jews became the representative of the West in the Middle East. Tamils have established themselves well in the Western Countries. Politically speaking, Tamils are far smarter than when they were in the 1970s, 1980s or 1990s. Sri Lanka and India need Tamil diaspora to maintain peace and prosperity in South Asia. The South Asian leaders will regret; if they ever want to use Tamils as puppets for their interests or toys for their entertainments. My message to India’s future Prime Minister Modi is very clear. Supporting the racist Rajapaksas will lead to a disaster in South Asia. Tamils aren’t anyone’s toys anymore. If you fool the Tamils you will be fooling yourselves. You can’t fool all the Tamils all the time. You will regret; if you paint all the Tamils with the same brush which you had used to paint Prabhakaran.

The world must know one important thing; we are not dwelling in the past. What we face in Sri Lanka is a real discrimination. We are not living in illusion. I have been to Sri Lanka in 2012. As a Tamil I couldn’t even get local tickets to see the tourist places; the staff refused to sell local tickets to me even though I showed evidence that I was born in Sri Lanka. Mr K Shanmugam is a Tamil; he is a Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law in Singapore. Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam is the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore. They are having high-profile positions in the Singaporean government, because they are from Singapore. If they are from Sri Lanka they would not have got those positions, but ended-up as refugees somewhere in the world. The Rajapaksas are the most foolish leaders I have come across as government leaders in the world. They carry-on their racist approach based on the population, in order to get votes. You can’t ask the monkey to change its tricks; once you have trained the monkey to do tricks to make money as an entertainment. You can re-train the monkey, but meantime you can’t make money.

Likewise the Sri Lankan leaders have trained the Sinhalese people to get votes, if the leaders try to change the people’s ideology they will lose the votes. The leaders have been encouraging language, race and religious disharmony among the people since 1948, in order to keep their power. Hatred is in everyone’s blood; therefore uniting the country is almost impossible. French Canadians is less than 20% of the total population of Canada, but the French Canadians have equal rights. Canada had a French Prime Minister. Punjabis are only 3% of the India’s population, yet India’s Prime Minister is a Punjabi. In Singapore only 5% of Tamils, but has a Tamil deputy Prime Minister and a Tamil Foreign Minister. How likely Sri Lanka having a Tamil President or Tamil Prime Minister? It is absolutely impossible to have a Tamil President or Prime Minister, because of the racist Sinhalese majority. Why can’t Tamils have the same system as Canada or India? The Quebec government even control the immigration for their province in Canada. In fact, Tamils also need the flexibility to control their immigration while they have racist Gotabaya Rajapaksa who enjoys dual citizenship, but refuses dual citizenship for Tamils.

The Rajapaksas can only survive by bringing back the LTTE fear factor. And divert the attention to somewhere else. Otherwise they have no grounds to survive after the UN’s war crimes investigation. Nevertheless, the world is too smart, and it won’t fall into the Rajapaksas’ dramas. According to Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s drama, Gobi somehow managed to hide himself for five years, but came into the action just a week before the voting of the UNHRC. If you believe that you would believe anything. Intellectuals know that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa orchestrated the drama to arrest the human rights activists to hide the truth and trying hard to fool the international community to justify the military presence in the North and East. However, his action won’t give that much leverage for the Rajapaksas to manoeuvre internationally in the future. Now the Gota’s drama concludes with lives have been lost. The regime has no remorse for killing thousands of innocent people; killing few more people is nothing to them. The most dangerous regime can fool Sinhalese, but not the world. I am sure the Tamil diaspora knows that taking up arms again will not serve anyone’s purpose. Banning the diaspora Tamil groups by the Rajapaksa regime was to undermine the proposed UN’s war crimes investigation. I believe that the Rajapaksa regime had India’s blessings to ban the Tamil groups; once again New Delhi became a partner in crime.

When I hear Sri Lankan leaders’ actions and speeches I feel sorry for the people, because they are far off from the West’s powerful minds. The Rajapaksa regime fails to understand the difference between the well informed world citizens and fooled Sri Lankan citizens who have been fighting since 1948. The regime can win local votes by fooling its own people, but not the world. The country’s international credibility will continue to go backward, and place the country in a disaster. The worse is yet to come for Sri Lanka. It will get ugly for the Rajapaksa brothers; if the regime initiates its own domestic enquiry or international mechanism to investigate charges of war crimes and human rights violations in Sri Lanka. Therefore, the regime will not investigate the war crimes at all, but will bring back the LTTE fear factor to hold on to its power. If it does not work; it will take the North Korea’s path to keep its power. The foolish regime didn’t plan wisely to addresses the issues during and after the war. Inability to deal with the Tamils’ issues and India were the main reasons for the war, yet the regime has not addressed those main issues since the end of war in 2009. Therefore, the worse is yet to come for Sri Lankans. I have written a detail letter to the Indian government why the Rajapaksa regime must be removed sooner than later. I will forward the letter to the newly elected government after the India’s election.

Sri Lankans have been fighting since the independence, the Rajapaksa regime has the least educated ministers in its cabinet in the history of Sri Lanka; it has killed more people than any other government in the history of Sri Lanka. The Rajapaksa regime is corrupted; the Rajapaksa family got huge commissions on the China’s development projects. The regime has increased drug trafficking in Sri Lanka and Asia. The Rajapaksa regime’s policies have increased the teenage pregnancy and sexual abuses against children. The regime has been distorting economic data to fool the locals and the international community. I can go-on forever about this regime. China backs the Sri Lankan government in safeguarding national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. “We believe in the Sri Lankan people’s wisdom and capacity to handle their own affairs.” – Foreign Minister Wang Yi. China does not value India’s, Japan’s, and other South East Asian countries’ sovereignty and territorial integrity, but safeguarding national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka. This is nothing but duplicity of the Chinese communist party. The reality is the Chinese communist party is pretending that the Rajapaksa regime is smart, but using the Rajapaksa regime for its dangerous moves in the Indian Ocean. The Chinese communist party isn’t going to influence the South Asia, or expand its wings in the South Asia by supporting the Rajapaksa regime. It will backfire on the Chinese communist party.

The Sri Lankan mainstream media is the main enemy for the country. It had played a major role to unleash the 1983 riots. The state controlled media continues to lead the country into a disaster. A country needs smart leaders, or honest media which is free from racial and religious hatred, in order to educate its leaders and people. But Sri Lanka has foolish politicians and extremely bias media. How can you expect the country prosper? I bet history will repeat itself in your lifetime. History repeats itself because there are people that agree with the past. You must have extremely talented and sacrificial leaders to change the ideology of the people, but Sri Lanka does not have leaders like that; even if it does the Rajapaksas won’t allow those people to lead. Therefore, expect the people to do the same. However, Tamils are well prepared to face the racist Rajapaksas. I am not talking about taking arms again, but doing everything to bring justice through the international community; if the Sri Lankan and Indians leaders fail to address the Tamils’ grievances promptly.
