Let Us Together Build A Civilized Society

By Ranil Wickremesinghe

The majority of the people of this country have approved the continuance of good governance and consensual politics endorsed by the people through the silent revolution of 8th of January.

I offer my grateful thanks to all parties and individuals who worked untiringly during the election period to ensure victory for the people. We have been able to create a peaceful atmosphere needed for a free and fair election.

There should not be a division amongst people as winners and losers. We should get together as the sons and daughters of our motherland to the task of building a new political culture in this country. We have to unitedly work towards lifting the nation to a new height by facing challenges of the new era.

I invite all of you to join hands with us to face the challenges of our Mission.

Let us together build a civilized society, build a consensual government and create a new country with equal opportunities for everybody.

Ranil

Congratulations on UNFGG’s clear lead at the elections!

I completely endorse Mr Wickremesinghe’s call to “build a civilized society, build a consensual government and create a new country with equal opportunities for everybody.”

Yes, Dr. Fernando, I know very well Mr Wickramasinghe would not swell his head to the manner Rajapakshe behaved by giving dansal and gigantic parties wasting poor tax payers funds. This personality is very patient and people have to learn how he struggled within his party while constantly being attacked by most abusive MR administraton. Even if he spoke to Raja for official events, RW was attacked to have joined MARA for perks etc… people attacked RW for no reasons for such a long time. Mostly using all deregorary terms as the civilized would never hail it. I have listened to his wife and the manner they both got with critics… they are so calm and quiet.. that alone teaches a lot to the nation.

Dayan Jayathilaka will not bear RW`s election victory. Hope the stupid teenageer would not be rotten within his 4 walls. For DJ, Ranil and Chandrika were seen as KASHAYA. But the many seem to have consdiered their politics and decent. Today, DJ would not have words to fool the nation anymore.

Congratulations to Mithiri, Ranil, Chandrika & Sampanthan.
Keep up your words. The country needs a new constitution, new institutions, and new policies. Don’t drag to find an answer to the lasting national issue that is the fundamental for good governance.

I congratulate the new PM and his new team. I wish them well.

I also expect him to deliver Sri Lanka in a better shape. After 6o months.

“build a civilized society, build a consensual government and create a new country with equal opportunities for everybody.”

Indeed nice words. I do not believe in words though. In fact nobody should. Not in this country. Proof of the pudding is in the eating. Remains to be seen.

We have come far in the last 5-6 years. We destroyed VP. We broke Rajapassa dynasty project’s backbone. We fixed the presidency. Considered an impossible task before. We are on track. Very long way to go though.

We must remain vigilant. Stupidity still thrives in Sri Lanka.

      Here is why:
Rajapassa still managed to excite the stupid Sinhala-Buddhist vote bank with messages of hate, insecurity & racism. Millions swallowed the bait this time too. There are clones of Rajapassa among Tamils and Muslims too. Doing exactly the same. We should really be worried.

Further, clowns like Nishantha Mutuhettigama and killers like Lohan Ratwatte will return to Sri Lanka’s next Parliament too. Overwhelmingly endorsed by the Sri Lanka’s stupid electorate.

Meanwhile both JVP & DP are failed to make a decisive impact. Now explain this BS to me.

Congrats Sri Lanka. The peaceful election itself was a massive achievement in itself, in this blood-soaked island. That is something to celebrate.

May God bless our beautiful country and her severely tested, yet resilient people.

      Cheers!

Who said Dayan didn’t have a sense of humour?

Please read this excerpt and judge for yourself.

        The Rising: Nugegoda Feb 18th

Throughout the meeting was the rising chant from the crowd, “Mahinda! Mahinda! Apata Oney Mahinda! (“We want Mahinda!”)”. So Wimal was probably right when he said to rapturous applause “Mahinda is not a name, Mahinda is a country!” The great Vietnamese leader Le Duan who succeeded the legendary Ho Chi Minh and led the anti-imperialist war to victory often said ‘Socialism and the Nation are One’. For the people who swarmed over Nugegoda in February 18th, Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Nation are One.

It was veteran leftist Vasudeva Nanayakkara who struck the basic moral-ethical and even philosophical chord that unified everyone at the massive mobilization in Nugegoda, when he declared and repeated: “It is not defeat that is a disgrace, it is surrender!”

Prime Minister Elect Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe,

Congratulations on your Victory and the Peoples Victory, and getting Good Governance moving forward, with the help of President Matripala Sirisena and the People with Common Sense.

This is the time to fix the flaws in Lanka, in the Land of Native Veddah Aethho, created since 1948 by the various characters and parties. The People expect that and have given you and the president a mandate to fix it, without MaRa, Mahinda Rajapaksa, interfering.

For today, you all need to sing the Jaya Magala Gathaa, in Pali. Tomorrow, get to work, and fix the broken items.

Jaya Mangala Gatha-Verses of Auspicious Victory (rare Pali version)-Buddhist Chants.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OH9kdeLEX4

Based on the Book of Protection (Paritta Sutta) from the Pali canon, the Jaya Mangala Gatha is sung here in a rare recording by the Mahabodhi Society of India in original Pali. The Jaya Mangala Gatha is a chant recommended by the Buddha to destroy negativity and to generate auspiciousness. It proclaims the 8 major victories of the Buddha which are:

      1) Victory over Mara ( MarRa)
      2) Victory over the demon Alavaka (Wimal)
      3) Victory over the wild elephant Nalagiri * Udu Gamanpila)
      4) Victory over serial killer Angulimala (Gotabaya)
      5) Victory over the evil intentions of Cinca who sought to defame (Pavitra)
      6) Victory over the haughty brahmin Saccaka (Vasudeva)
      7) Victory over the serpent king Nandopananda (Susil)
      8) Victory over the false views of Brahma Baka (Yapa)

      English translation:

      Creating thousand hands, with weapons
armed was Mara seated on the
      trumpeting, ferocious elephant Girimekhala.
Him, together with his army, did the
Lord of Sages subdue by means of generosity and other virtues.
By its grace may joyous victory be thine.

More violent than Mara were the
      indocile, obstinate demon Alavaka, who
battled with the Buddha throughout the
      whole night.
Him, did the Lord of Sages
subdue by means of His patience and
      self-control.
By its grace may joyous victory be thine.

      Nalagiri, the mighty elephant, highly
intoxicated was raging like a forest-fire
      and was terrible as thunder-bolt.
      Sprinkling the waters of loving-kindness,
this ferocious Beast, did the Lord of
      Sages subdue.
By its grace may joyous victory be thine.

With uplifted sword, for a distance of
      three leagues, did wicked Angulimala
run. The Lord of Sages subdued him by
      His psychic powers.
By its grace may joyous victory be thine.

Her belly bound with faggots, to simulate
the bigness of pregnancy, Cinca, with
harsh words made foul accusation in the
midst of an assemblage. Her, did the
Lord of Sages subdue by His serene and
      peaceful bearing.
By its grace may Joyous victory be thine.

Haughty Saccaka, who ignored truth, was
like a banner in controversy, and his
vision was blinded by his own
      disputation. Lighting the lamp of
wisdom, Him did the Lord of Sages
      subdue.
By its grace may Joyous victory be thine.

      The wise and powerful serpent
      Nandopananda, the Noble Sage caused
to be subdued by the psychic power of
      his disciple son (Thero Moggallana).
By its grace may joyous victory be thine.

      The pure, radiant, majestic Brahma,
named Baka, whose hand was grievously
bitten by the snake of tenacious false-views,
the Lord of Sages cure with His
      medicine of wisdom.
By its grace may joyous victory be thine.

The wise one, who daily recites and
      earnestly remembers these eight verses
of joyous victory of the Budhha, will get
rid of various misfortunes and gain the
      bliss of Nirvana.

    KASmaalam KAS

Now that Ranil has invited you join hands with him and others to build civilized society, are you going to oblige him?

“build a consensual government and create a new country with equal opportunities for everybody.”

Do you understand what he means by consensual government and new country with equal opportunities for everybody?

There is going to be no more discrimination on the basis of caste, race, region, religion, etc. So Dalits can apply for jobs where they will have to demonstrate their ability to perform their task. Sinhala/Buddhist Govi and Karava now have to work their buts off.

Native, I’ll be interested to read Sumanapala’s response, as “consensual government and new country with equal opportunities for everybody” can’t be his cuppa tea, judging from his allegiance to his master’s policies, not to mention his bigoted points of view.

      Dear Native,

You must be a Gen X Vedda.

Even Batalanda Ranil.s dear Uncle Junius built a Dharamishta Samajaya , according to my Elders.

And they said it was in the 70s.

The rest is history I guess….

Wonder whether the Dalits got a fair go then…

BTW , How come Bodhi Sira took Galleon on his first foray overseas after that Pathalaya Fiasco?.

Is Bodhi trying to keep you guys away from Batalanada Ranil…

I’m glad the UNP beat the UPFA.

Now, it’s Ranil’s turn to grow a pair and handle the Central Bank bond issue IMPARTIALLY. All fingers point to something very fishy. The issue needs to be investigated IMPARTIALLY and Arjuna Mahendran sent home, if necessary.

I believe our president will take action if Ranil does not, on this matter. The only reason our president didn’t take action prior to today is because it would have hurt the UNP campaign against Mahinda.

Now, the time is right for President Maithripala Sirisena to resolve the issue.

I have Congratulated elsewhere and do it again here. My heartiest congratulations to The YAHAPALANAYA team.
I consider myself too that I played a small part in this win by my way of commenting on the CT.
I am sure The Freedom Of Speech delivered by the Yahapalanayas in January have had some effect too .

H Says CB Governor should be investigated ,of course ,what’s the hurry ?? his act was only done this year There’s still so much backlog to clear from the last government. So have patience.

It is with some humble satisfaction that I wish to quote below what I stated as ‘a possible scenario’ on the eve of the elections on the 16th under the very clear title “A Victory for Democratic Revolution” (Colombo Telegraph). I also acknowledge that some others also made the same/similar predictions.

“It is unlikely that any political party or a group of parties, either the United National Front for Good Governance (UNFGG) or the old regime’s United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) would obtain more than 113 seats in Parliament to comfortably form a majority government. That is one predicament of the present proportional representation and the current ‘balance of political forces’ since particularly the JVP and the TNA are contesting independently. That was not the case at the presidential elections on 8th January or one may call at the ‘first stage’ of the revolution.

The second stage appears to be little more complicated in terms of electoral politics.

The most possible and most desirably scenario, under the circumstances, would be for the UNFGG to take a lead and then a National Government could easily be formed with the support of the ‘truly democratic’ sections of the SLFP loyal to President Maithripala Sirisena. Such a national government, Ranil Wickremasinghe as the Prime Minister, is not going to be a minority government like in the recent past after January, but a majority government with the UNFGG and the UNP as the leading party or the force.

I would personally urge the President not to take the ‘undesirable’ and ‘opportunist’ elements from the SLFP or the UPFA into such a Cabinet or even appoint them as Deputy Ministers. There is a paramount need to have a ‘clean’ and a ‘stable’ government.”

      Thank you, Dr Laksiri Fernando.

Hope The President and the PM will now go back to the promises of Yahapalanaya as stated in the manifesto for Presidential election and set an example how future cabinet members(quantity and quality) should be.

A group of knowledgeable and impartial advisors to the cabinet is an urgent need.

Congratulation to PM Ranil W. and everyone who worked hard to make sure that we come out of the loop engineered by MARA.

As Dr. Laksiri F. has mentioned PM Ranil W. can form a strong government, I believe this time around President and PM will have much more flexibility in picking who should be part of forming the government.

This will be strong democratic government which will propel Sri Lanka in to a path of development, prosperity and equality. This could also make way to find a lasting solution to the NE problem.

I wish our country all the success and hope we will be able to show our true potential.

Congratulations are in order to the President Maithri and the PM Ranil for conducting the most peaceful in two decades. It also showed what the Police can do when there is Rule of Law.

The strategy of making Sri Lanka a venue for heavy foreign investment depends on respecting and supporting all foreign investments, including the Port City Project; after ensuring that it meets the environmental norms and the concerns of our giant neighbour. I am in favour of the Indian project to build a bridge or a tunnel between Sri Lanka & India and connecting it to the Trincomalee port, to make it unnecessary to consider the canal across the Palk Straight.

As we majority of our population wishes, President is also happy to join his hands with Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe as prime minister.

majority of our population wisely made their decision to expel Brainless man and his henchmen from the power.

Congratulations to the govt. to be formed by UNF for G.G. We fought for this since the removal. I can breath freely. But it is very important to stay with people and listen their heart beat. We don’t want to see politicians become masters of the weak voters. They have no power and money to dominate or win their demand. If it happened, then that day we will start our struggle to chase you away. This is very genuine and emotional statement and as well as demand from our hearts. Keep the promises, uplift the poor peoples lives and treat everyone equally in the society. We don’t want to see kings and queens in our poor, rural society. We all are Sri Lankans. We all deserves democracy and freedom. Also economic freedom. It is not an easy task. But anything can be done with real commitment only if you want. If not say we cant and go home. We really want to see consistency from our new Govt. please. We still can do miracles. Believe me!

Maithiri seems to be the ultimate winner, as he didn’t want to see a party getting a landslide victory and having an absolute majority in the House. It is good combination; SLFP holding the presidency and UNP with PM. Where is Mahinda in all these?. Will he be a member in the national Government?. If he needs to hide all the crimes his acolytes and he committed, he should be a minister. Will he enjoys the Prez perks still? Where is our good buddies Dayan, Mahindapala, etc. Smart patriotism has jet again suffered a body blow.

Hope the investigations being conducted by CID will continue and an end will be put for the missing persons mystery.

I thought Dayan was heading to Medamulana – since he had already been given the appointement to clean MR s overflowing toilett pits. Dayan cut his next by being that stupid. He behaved as if a teenager would run amok being unable to revenge on ones that never like him in the childhood. RW and CBK were repeatedly attacked not only through articles but also being joined to MOST ABUSIVE bunch led by MaRa. Anyway, there, Dayan lost almost his lesser credibility as a former diplomat- former lecturer and former self proclaimed Mr. Knnow all who came from a solid famil background… latter was repeated by him almost everyday to be caught by media. His ego was above everything, but the manner he behaved himself was almost not second to Wimal Buruwanse whose gentics would be questionable.

Except passport forgery, I agree with you there was not much between Weruba and Dayan in their behaviours. Smart pariotism seems swifting more and more towards South.

I fully agree to what Dr. Laksiri fernando says…..

“I would personally urge the President not to take the ‘undesirable’ and ‘opportunist’ elements from the SLFP or the UPFA into such a Cabinet or even appoint them as Deputy Ministers. There is a paramount need to have a ‘clean’ and a ‘stable’ government.”

There are good apples amongst a basket of rotten ones too, and so natural sense should prevail and put all the good ones who believe in honesty and who work for the masses.
We have the chance now to take this beautiful Island forward. Learn from the mistakes of the past. And mainly do not forget, even minorities are majaorities in all terms.

We hope that YOU [RANIL W] and Hon President will do make yours pledges true and treat the Society equally.
And punished your EX Classmate for the CSE Bond Scam for the cheating of tax payers money.

NOT ONLY THAT, YOU MUST TAKE LEGAL ACTIONS FOR ALL THE PREPARATORS FOR ROBBING OF GOVERNMENT COFFERS,
    WHO EVER THEY ARE.
DO NOT FORGET THIS IS AN AGRICULTURAL COUNTRY AND EASILY CAN BE DEVELOP FROM AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES INDUSTRY!

And please you should not agree to build the Indian proposed bridge on palk strait linking India and SRI lanka.

That will be a big headache for you all and future generation of Sri lanka.

You Must REMEMBER THAT INDIA IS FRIENDLY COUNTRY,
BUT NOT A GOOD FRIENDLY COUNTRY TO KEEP SO CLOSE.
    SO DO PAKISTAN.

WE MUST KEEP ALL OF AT THE ARMS LENGTH AND TREAT THEM EQUALLY.

EVENTHOUGH I am an M R supporter/ contractor, I congratulate you on your Election victory.

Such lofty words have been spoken before. After the destruction of the LTTE in 2009 and by CBK in 94. nothing came of it. We have never had statesmen only politicians and Ranil also is one such politician.

  • 3
    3

    Ranil,

Democracy has been served. We wish President Sirisena and you the best.

Led by you, Sri Lankans have proved beyond doubt, that they want to move into the world of Western Modernity.

They have not cared or realized that in this day and age, the globe is moving towards Post-Modernity. Sir, you have sold them an outdated model.

It is also unfortunate that this Western modernity is only achievable by compromising our Island with India.

We hope, therefore, that you will work with more sentient members of the heritage, to secure our Island (of both races).

When you lay down at your last, we hope that you will not regret that our Island would have come to naught.

Build civilized society by UNP-Ranil W… there is however a rather straightforward implication of this permissibility that is worth on commenting.

Since the demand of ‘civilized society’ by UNP need rational choice might not invariably yield the identification of a unique alternative that must chosen by people of that rational elites of any society members of Sri lanka.

The used of rational choice for ‘civil society’ predicative purposed can be problematic under UNP set of policy makers of Neo -Liberia politics of the UNP is quite impossible and not applicable.

How ever UNP-Ranil.W… is that person is not that reborn, how can rational choice point to what would be actually chosen, if there is more than our civilized alternative had being exist in our land 2600 years back ,that could we count as more rational civilization.

UNP-Ranil.W.. has to understand that important to stress the basic foundation of Sri lanka being in the simple commodity production of backwardness remain and still underdevelopment of mode and means of production of capitalism. It is depend economy of talking of GSP and Western market along that old and moribund decaling market economy of EU US and others.

UNP leader has to realized our country paramount reality are most key national condition in contemporary of Sri lanka.
We as nation bear our mind and encourage sustainability of capitalism which promote reform and new innovation of overall development in all respect of very reality is ours basis.

The accelerating development of economy and speeding political, cultural, social and environment are challenge task of our Land & People; planning of capitalist development on long-term basis be daily routine work of building ‘civilized society’. Current our economy is GDP $ 75 Billion US dollar is small, but we are working on that it is be large! Nation created wealth and enlarge by MR ruling class politics of economy are not that robbing the Public wealth.
That is capitalism. Ranil of UNP must analytical of its own linguistic context to distinguished from the ‘civilized society’ characterization of democratic term of rationality and freedom.

It is one thing ‘civilized society’ by UNP-Ranil.W..to accept the need to understand the nature of society and its rational of civilized choice ,because of its own improtantance and analyzing actual society choice .

But it is quite another that an understanding of people rationality of ‘civilized society ‘ and ruling class choice are different.
The actual civilized society that rational choice from its putative role as a simple predictor of real choice of democracy is has been widely used in mainstream of political -economics.
The choice of ‘civilized society’ happens to be invariably rational in the sense of being sustainable by people’s oriented critical plurality of choice of democracy.

What UNP- policy of the ‘civilized society’ rational choice that makes it hard to obtain a unique predication about UNP-Ranil’s personal actual choice from the idea of rationality along.

    Yes Prime Minister,

    Take us the promised land.

  • 3

First of all fulfil the demands of the Tamil people. Remove the military from the North. Do not colonise North with the Sinhalese people. Return all private lands to the owners for them to resettle. Pay compensation to all those who lost their belongings. Devolve full powers to the Tamil people to conduct their own affairs. Release all political prisoners. Let the Tamil people know the whereabouts of their kith and kin disappeared after the war and who surrendered to the Armed forces. Then and only then the Tamils will join hands with the Sinhalese to build a civilised society. There is no civilised society in the South at the Moment as accepted by Ranil. The Tamil people are still going to wait for their demands to be met as promised by the TNA.

Ranil brought up a split between the TNA members and Wigneswaran by allocating money to some of the TNA MPs instead to the Northern Provincial Council and the stupidity of the Tamil MPs to accept it. It is not a civilised act of the part of a Prime Minister. How is that once a 100% Tamil area voted 46.4% for the UNP and 25.4% for the ITAK in the recent election.

  • 7

Dear Mr President, Mr Prime Minister

Please accept my Congratulations! With your permission here are a few suggestions to implement in your first six months in Office.

First of all demonstrate to the country very clearly that you accept the principle, that you hold Office to serve the interests of the People, and swear you will serve the People, and that your private interests will not in any way influence your decisions. You know which current Ministers are straight and which are crooked. If you must make them Minister keep a hawk’s eye on each one of them. But for the Bond Scam, your victory would have been a landslide. Providence gave you the Office. Keep in mind that if you deviate, you will be sent home in shame like the Maharajano.

Demonstrate to Parliament Members, that only those qualified and holding appropriate qualifications, will be given Ministerial Posts. Make it clear to everyone that past election work does not entitle them to Ministerial post. CONFIRM to the country, today, tomorrow, Sri Lanka will have a cabinet of not more 20 Ministers. Each one will be assisted by a team of professional Government Officers and as necessary, experts in their fields. Even post of deputy Minister is not required, we know they are mostly potential breeders of corruption and expensive decoration.

Second, there are urgent Constitutional Amendments, which you tried, but failed to complete. Complete them. Tell the country the programme and when you will complete. No BS please.

Thirdly, there is plenty of evidence you already are in possession of about the massive corruption that went on during the the last regime. Investigate on priority basis the larger allegations and get back the money for the country. If jail is the only alternative, do not hesitate to jail the culprits.

And do not hesitate to appoint a committee of proven experts to investigate the Mahendra Bond Scam. Specify the time frame within which the investigation should be completed. That Cabraal did worse things is no fucking excuse. Send Mahendra and any others home if they are found to have not conformed to the best practices expected of their Office. If there is any loss caused to the public or the Government, or as a result any third Party has benefited , both should be compelled to pay back or go to jail. Make it law that exceptionally, in the matter of the Bond Scam, standard of proof required will be “balance of probability”, not “beyond doubt”. There is justification for this.

Fourth, pass legislation to OUTLAW HATE & RACIST SPEECH, prescribing heavy fines and rigorous imprisonment of not less than one year.

Fifth, pass the Freedom of Information Act.

Sixth, institute a procedure and institutions, whereby any citizen, who has information about financial irregularities / frauds in the Government / Corporate sector can get involved in the apprehension, investigation and punishment of the individual concerned. Guarantee protection and rewards for such individuals. Crime and Corruption will largely die a natural death.

I am sure you can think of other measures also which together with all of the above can be achieved. You can easily achieve everything mentioned here within the first six months because no MP is in a position to hold a gun to your head. You are in a position to show anyone the door which fact President Sirisena take good note. Both of you examine your conscience, and confirm to yourselves “yes we can do this”.

When it is time to call the next General and or Presidential elections, Sri Lanka will be unrecognizable. Feel proud then.

Thank you Ranil. We trust you to deliver on your promises. And I bet you have an ideal partner in our loved My3 to help you do so. But please don’t forget your primary promise to the nation – to bring the Medamulana rouges, rapists and murderers to justice including that Grease Yakkos father Gota the psychopath. Send them to the Hague if you feel chicken enough to do it yourself. Remember, you owe it to us, the peace loving citizens of this beautiful country. Good luck and may Allah help you in your path forward. Ameen, ammen ya rabbal aalameen.

    Dear RW

After 30 years of civil war that ended up with 100s of thousands of innocent civilian killed to eliminate the liberation movement. This is probably a golden oppotunity albeit the last one to pull the country together.

There will ofcourse recist elements that will be undrmining genuine efforts to reconcile and unite the country.

Attractive words can be easily but what is required is to put into practice what such words mean without being choosy on the practices at one whims and fancies.

Where is Sumanasekeram? Is he taking his well deserved holiday from writing rubbish? Oh Sumana, please sleep for a long time, maybe another 75 years. Your slave master has been rendered powerless. Now you and him can both rest together.

It is a pity we have lost a good opportunity to have the greatest politician ever produced in Srilanka as. the prime minister. All the evil forces have worked together to put us in this prelious position. First they deprived as of a great president annd now prime minister. I don’t know wbere it is going to leave us.
All this talk of equality to all and good governance is real bull shit. This man cannot govern leave all good governance.
However, all is not lost there is the position of leader of opposition from there we can rise, rise we will be. If everything fails then there is the armed forces we will use them to wrest power. So cheer up folks. We will be back.
    Hail Mahinda.

Proudman – “Pride goeth before the fall” is a proverb you would do well to remember!

Those “evil forces” you are on about have been dissed by the people’s vote and the “bullshit” has been reduced considerably (no noise from idiot sycophants – read Weerawnasa, Dinesh, Vasudeva, etc), so relax and try to enjoy the refreshing taste of freedom from the goons who governed us for too long.

Another one worth remembering -“The bigger they are, the harder they fall”.

I have a suggestion for you, Proudman.

Since you are not going to have your “greatest politician” governing the country, please commit suicide.

Worthless creeps like you are the bane of Sri Lanka.

Mahinda is my great hero. His acheiveents cannot be surpassed by the likes of Ranil. Here are a few:

1- Mahinda made history by winning 2 times in a row in 8 months. First as President and this time as Prime Minister. Am I wrong? Just wait till he goes back to Medamulana and you will see him explaining, like last time, how he won this election too. (I wish our cricket team had that rate of success).

2- We have heard of people snatching victory from the jaws of defeat or defeat from the jaws of victory. This is the first time a man has snatched defeat from the jaws of defeat – or is it victory from the jaws of victory?

3- Mahinda is the only known leader to have used astrology, voodoo, witchcraft, good luck charms and even human sacrifices to govern the country. That is why his decisions were always immensely beneficial. Ex: his decision to have elections 2 years before they were due.

The list goes on and on…

This the time for building bridges.Forgiving and be forgiven.Restitution where necesary. Election rhetoric must be forgotton. The benifit o0f the doubt has to be given to the accuused. All attention should be for a common program which will give stability to the government. Give and take is necessary. The path is clear. The eight fold path. Our country must save and be willing to make a committement to get out of the hole we are in. It is not a materialistic spirit but a path of learning and improving skills . earning more with the rise of productivity and yet saving. It is the principal of sharing and giving as shown inthe dhamma. Meeting our needs and restraining our wants.
To each according to his need. From each according to his ability.

At the best this is an incomplete. It is claimed that UPFA lost because of its shortcomings. I prefer to say that UNP won because they did the right things. Compare speeches of RW and MR. MR and his cronies were always using foul language and gimmicks more suitable for the lowest rungs of the society. RW was sophisticated and gave priority to his future plans rather than the bad past of his opponent.

MR made people believe that his ‘certain’ victory would be because of his good luck charms, voodoo, astrological and other superstitious reasons (many were claiming that number 18 was very lucky for MR) etc. rather than acceptance of his policies by the voters. Most voters would have felt insulted by this. It is OK if one is guided by superstitions in one’s private life but to be so as the leader of a country is really absurd and cannot be tolerated.

RW never displayed such stupid tendencies.

In any case, MR was made to snatch a new defeat from the jaws of the previous defeat. And that is all that matters.

Quote: “Let us together build a civilized society, build a consensual government and create a new country with equal opportunities for everybody”.

This statement indeed tells us that we do not have a civilized society in this country anymore, and who could blame the Prime Minister for saying so?

If people could have been abducted and made to vanish without trace, if people could have been killed n broad daylight at 4 way junctions, if people could have been supposedly murdered and their bodies thrown into cars to burn and roast…. then the Premier is scoring a bulls eye here, with his own implied admittance.

What needs to be done is to mete out justice to the dead and the disappeared, and justice to the guilty.

Very surprised, it wasn’t an election pledge. It could have won thousands of votes….

“Let Us Together Build A Civilized Society” –

The problem with Ranil Wickremasinghe is, he is too civilized to be in politics in a country such as ours.

Anyway it is a very noble thought, and I hope in time people would not look back and say it was a naiive thought.

In combination with a fantastic President (who notices the fine print which Ranil misses) there is every reason for us to be optimistic!

    Mr Prime Minister,

    BRAVO on your intent:

Let us together build a civilized society, build a consensual government and create a new country with equal opportunities for everybody.

Yet, you as the Prime Minister should ensure that people who are intrinsically corrupt as most in Parliament are – should be dealt without fear or favour!

No matter what, you should take appropriate steps, at once, to mete just punishment to the those who aided and abetted all the illegalities that the FCID is currently looking into and any leniency afforded to them would be a travesty of Justice.

You of all people SHOULD agree, SIR, that Sri Lanka and Sri Lankans would have been far better off should the 2005 Presidential election was free and fair. The first option, then, should be to take preventive measures as to how this started and me thinks that we should first deal with the Tsunami funds that financed the non participation of the North in the 2005 elections.

Should that not have happened, Sir, we would have had a much better man as President – and 10 years of Mayhem; the loss of good people; the corruption, etc. that took place for the past 10 years would have been prevented.

The man who lost (2005), Sir, has been given the opportunity again to make good and should – by taking appropriate action make sure – that those guilty of the origin of the despicable state of affairs – be punished in such a way – that would set an example to all the other wanna be’s.

Having said all that the former President and the former Chief Justice who has publicly announced that he was responsible for the former Presidents ascendance should be dealt with first.

We should let the courts decide as to who should hang first.
