Tissa Vitarana, the leader of the Lanka Sama Samaja party and the former senior minister has obtained a promise from Mahinda Rajapaksa that there will be “no corruption” under a future Rajapaksa government. You guys, the profs, have lost your minds. I thought corruption is something prevailing in MR’s government but not openly spoken about among those who were in power with this much ease. The ease with which you bring this message to us, the fools, indicates you, had been a member of his government, weren’t feeling any guilt about these big scale robberies. Your effort in bidding yet another term for MR shows you are prepared to condone for everything they did. How do you see a poor guy who ended up behind the bars for stealing something to feed his family to provide some relief from starving to these thefts at the high level. What kind of hypocrisy, a prof displays and I thought you are better than this, sir but have disappointed. You guys are prepared to accept anything but not the influence of the West in SL. What is more annoying and somewhat irritating is persons of your caliber doing this, and doing in a mature age.
Did you get any assurance about white van, passport forgery, drugs, gaging the press, etc. Did you also find out what happened to the document which you submitted at the conclusion of the All Party conference that aimed at addressing the national question, which you had chaired. Do you think what was written in that report is worth its paper now?.
If he admits that corruption was in his government, he should go and provide those details to the commission which inquires into these matters, as people have the right to know about it and get back the misappropriated amount involved. Only in SL, do these politicians make in public kind of stupid pledges like “if he allowed to come to power he promises to stop corruption” and roam at large with relative ease, which is really appalling and challenges the law of the country.

A week ago Prof Tiss Vitharana was in Jaffna and gave a lecture. Supposed to be for one hour and then discussion for an hour. I expected the intellect that he was during his academic days. During the first hour he rambled on on the 72 constitution and how all Lankans applauded!!! I wanted to ask him many questions and waited for an hour and listened to so much rubbish. One young man said all what you have said in the first hour are old news and wanted to hear what he thinks of the current situation and the future. He wanted him to listen to him and learn!!!
Suddenly I had the feeling he had become senile and felt sad for him. At the end of two hours I walked out and he kept on going. Nanayakkara and GL P have all lost what they had 10 years back. These former gentlemen scholars should retire and spend their lives enjoying the balance of their lives instead of making others miserable.

Why Prof? Don’t we have anyone better than MR from a population of 22 million to become PM of this country? MR already had his chance and he botched up in style.
Isn’t it true you were well looked after by MR in his coalition government under the UPFA flag and you lived a privileged and charmed life, and now without him you have fear that you are bound to loose all those perks, facilities, prestige and respect, your job, and in the process, be humbled down to earth to spend the evening of your life as a commoner. Tissa – here is a suggestion.
Now that Mahinda is so positively against corruption,why don’t you ask him to gather information about who and who within his admin did all those crimes and where they satashed the money. He can then bring that first-hand information to the Government for swift action. That way the Government will not have to spend so much of resources and time to investigate independently.
Also, that will be a real, substantive demonstration (instead of mere lip-service) of good will on Mahinda’s part, and perhaps in appreciation The People will trust MR enough to bring him back to power!!
