The office of a historical mosque in the Kattankudy city of Baticaloa, Sri Lanka was torched by unknown assailants today morning. Mass protests and hartal against the attack in the aria continues. Meanwhile the people in Kalmunai, Samanthurai, Akkaraipattu, and Saindamaradu areas in the Ampara district closed shops today to protest the prevailing crisis over the mosque in Dambulla sacred area. All activities in government institutions and banks came to a halt and business establishment put up shutters.

This could well be a self inflicted attack by the Muslims themselves in order to incriminate Sinhala people and to create havoc by rioting. The damage to the Kaththankudi building appears minimal.
The venomous atmosphere currently prevailing in Sri Lanka is the direct result of encroachment in to Buddhist Temple properties and establishing places of worship on the sly. Sinhala Buddhists co-existed with Muslim people when there were no provocation by the latter. A Muslim shrine illegally erected within Mahamewna gardens in Anuradhapura very near to Dakshina sthoopa was the cause of the incident on September 10th 2011. Encroachment in to the ancient Buddhist Shrine at Kooragala, obfuscate the scrolls and establishing a tomb for worshiping is another example of Muslim high handed and provocative activity.
Legally constructed Mosques at various sites in the island have never been attacked. Only the illegal constructions attract challenge. Sinhala Buddhists also have a right to protect their heritage. Therefore refraining from illegal activities is surely the remedy for this problem.

Talk to the point with out saying stupidity and all that. Even befor 60 years the law was there for illegal stuctures. Unfortunatly these were over looked, But now the law seems to be functioning. Last week, the statues of Mahatma Ghandi,Baden Powell,Swamy Vivekananda,Swamy Vipulananda and Poet Periyathambypilai were “beheaded” in batticaloa town, at night.
The Ghandi statue is very tall and requires a ladder of 18 feet for such an operation.
Earlier,the statue of SJV Chelvanayagam in trincomalee was damaged.
Who could have done these?

Siri, think twice before you comment. You talk just like some extremists think, that this country is only for Sinhalese and others are second class citizens. Muslims did not come to Sri Lanka recently, and their history is as old as ours. They have never been at odds with other communities until people like you with ulterior motives changed it. Go back to the history and see how Muslims fought side by side against Portugese and how supportive they were to Sinhala kings. Do not be ungrateful like some of the so called sudden patriots we see today looking for higher positions.

Muslims have internal problems also. Kathankudy is well known for such internal violence. We should not relate it to Dambulla incident.
Govt. can solve Dambulla issue very easily through legal means on priority basis and also can avoid similar problems in future by making a regulation on building of places of worship. Muslims usually build lot of mosques as they are called House of Allah. Once built, it automatically becomes very sacred place. It doesn’t have to exist for 60 years or 600 years to become sacred. The Buddhist protesters in Dambulla had made a very big mistake by disrupting Friday prayers last week, an act which calls all Muslims to declare Holy War (Jihad) against them. But everyone should understand that Sri Lanka cannot afford another war. So, to be fair with all the Sri Lankans, the Govt. should act fast and solve this at once.

Mosque is built 200m from temple on temple land without asking for permission from even grama sevaka or buddist ministry.actually it was a shop back ln 1980s later by mid 1994 they started to use it as a mosque as the area lacks a one.its clearly stated that lands arround temple are its proparty under niyangam accepted by parliment
