MTV Newsfirst Removes President’s Daughter Chathu’s “Boasting Video” From Facebook

The Maharaja Television Network’s social media site ‘Newsfirst.lk Facebook page today removed their published video clip which aired President Maithripala Sirisena’s daughter Chathurika Sirisena chairing a meeting at the Pollonnaruwa District Government Agent’s Office which was held yesterday.

Maithripala - Chathurika SirisenaColombo Telegraph launched an investigation and questioned the President’s Media Unit regarding Chathurika Sirisena’s official stance. We asked the Head of President’s media to tell us on what basis/capacity does she go around the country accompanied with state officials. Shortly there after we noticed that the Newsfirst.lk Facebook page posting on Chathurika’s meeting has been removed. A top MTV official speaking to Colombo Telegraph on the condition of anonymity said that they had to remove the said video from the official Facebook page due to the viewers’ comments but they haven’t removed it from YouTube.

The President’s office is yet to answer queries that were put forward by Colombo Telegraph

The meeting in question was regarding anti-narcotic awareness and was attended by the North Central Province Chief Minister Peshala Jayaratne, all Divisional Secretaries and a plethora of other government officials who patiently listened to the President Sirisena’s daughter Chathurika talk about her father’s political ascendancy from his humble beginnings.

Three days ago Chathurika had visited Mahawelitenna, Sinhapura, Dimbulana, Perakumyaya and Kudapokuna during a different ‘fact finding mission’ and stated to the media that she had not come ‘just to show face with an entourage’, but had come instead to share her father’s dream in helping to solve the problems of the people. She added that this is why she was accompanied by state officials. Two days ago when Colombo Telegraph contacted the President’s Deputy Director Media Sunil Jayasekara to clarify if Chathurika has been given a portfolio in her daddy’s government, said that as far as he knows she holds no governmental position.

The theme is good, anti-narcotics, but what happened to YAHAPALANYA?!

Should not that be the theme of her lecture?! After all that was daddy Sirisena’s election theme and now we need and explanation about what happened to good governance GOOD GOVERNANCE when the new government starts off with mega bribes to corrupt politicians with 90+ cabinet members and deputies..
Seems like the Sirisena family is following in the Jarapassa footsteps.. running a permanent election campaigning for dad as he does not have any supporters and has had to bribe Jarapassa’s criminal crook and thug in the SLFP with cabinet posts to support his.. THilanga SUmathipala should be tried in open court for ruining Sri Lanka cricket and Dayasiri Jayathilake better file charges..

very pleasant to look at the Pretty and attractive face of Ms. Sirisena.

Was getting tired of looking at the Meeharakas, Buffaloes, from Medamulana.

I am surprised at your comments. We judge people by thier brain powere and commitment to work and not whether she is pretty or ugly. When it is a woman, you seem to comment on looks and not whether she has a right to be there with the state officials. It does not matter whether she is from Medamulana or Polannaruwa but as to what she is doing is correct. Even if it is good for the country, is she doing the proper way. Means do not justify end.

I am surprised as well, but looking for a differentiation, from the Medamulana MaRa, Meehark, Buffaloes, it was a pleasant change.

There is no definite correlation between beauty and intelligence, as far as I know, so far.

          We all appreciate a flower.

what I see positive is that Ms. Sirisena, seems to be doing something about it, get it done.

Ms. Sirisena has more intelligence compared to the Medamulana Meeharak.

Will she state a new White Van Campaign and kill sports players using the Presidential guards? Unlikely

        Amarasiri,

Let her family, including her husband derive joy from her pretty and yet innocent looking face! What is unfloding is wrong and cannot be compromised with in this supposedly yahapalnaya yugaya. What starts wrong will inevitably end wrong. Our political system and bureucracy will make sure this will happen. I hope the First Daughter and her father- who we now know to be quite a shrewed person- understand this.

“I hope the First Daughter and her father- who we now know to be quite a shrewed person- understand this.”

There are two aspects to this story. The point you are making here.Start wrong. Start with nepotism.

The other aspect is appointing somebody who can get things done and command peoples respect and is credible. Ms. Sirisena is credible, despite any ulterior motives of her father you are eluding to. We all know about MaRa.

Would you have a problem, if an Ombudsman is appointed by the government or by parliament to look into peoples needs?

Would you have an objection, if the appointee is Ms. Sirisena?

Would you have an objection, if the appointee is Ariyaratnas daughter

Would you have an objection, if the appointee is Namal Rajapaksa, the Law Cheated, or Yoshita Rajapaksa, the suspected Murderer? We all object to these Buffaloes being appointed. These Buffaloes belong elected by Modayas with average IQ of 65, is a different story.

          Ombudsman

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ombudsman

An ombudsman or public advocate is usually appointed by the government or by parliament, but with a significant degree of independence, who is charged with representing the interests of the public by investigating and addressing complaints of maladministration or a violation of rights. In some countries an Inspector General, Citizen Advocate or other official may have duties similar to those of a national ombudsman, and may also be appointed by a legislature. Below the national level an ombudsman may be appointed by a state, local or municipal government.

Unofficial ombudsmen may be appointed by, or even work for, a corporation such as a utility supplier, newspaper, NGO, or professional regulatory body.

The typical duties of an ombudsman are to investigate complaints and attempt to resolve them, usually through recommendations (binding or not) or mediation. Ombudsmen sometimes also aim to identify systematic issues leading to poor service or breaches of people’s rights. At the national level, most ombudsmen have a wide mandate to deal with the entire public sector, and sometimes also elements of the private sector (for example, contracted service providers). In some cases, there is a more restricted mandate, for example with particular sectors of society. More recent developments have included the creation of specialized Children’s Ombudsman and Information Commissioner agencies.

In some jurisdictions an ombudsman charged with handling concerns about national government is more formally referred to as the “Parliamentary Commissioner” (e.g. the United Kingdom Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration, and the Western Australian state Ombudsman). In many countries where the ombudsman’s responsibility includes protecting human rights, the ombudsman is recognized as the national human rights institution. The post of ombudsman had by the end of the 20th century been instituted by most governments and by some intergovernmental organizations such as the European Union.

            Dear Amarasiri,

I will object to her being appointed to any position that is a political appointment. She has not earned it.
Her only qualification for what she being made into is that she is the President’s daughter. This is nepotism.

It is wrong, wrong and wrong.

“Her only qualification for what she being made into is that she is the President’s daughter. This is nepotism.”

              True.

The position needs to be gazetted, and the applicants interviewed. Based on their performance they are to be ranked from the best candidate and downwards to the next best one etc.

They will apply the sorting screens. What are they?

              1. Is the Candidate a Sinhala Buddhist Goigama?

              2. Is the Candidate a Sinhala Buddhist non-Goigama?

              3. Is the Candidate a Sinhala Christian Goigama?

              4. Is the Candidate a Sinhala Christian non-Goigama?

              5. Is the Candidate a Tamil Hindu/Christian Christian Vellala/non-Vellala?

              6. Is the Candidate a Muslim? Sinhala Speaking Muslim? Tamil speaking Muslim,

              7. Is the Candidate an SLFP Supporter? UNP Supporter? JVP Supporter? TNA supporter etc.

              8. What are the approval recommendation letters the candidates have submitted from the politicians? The candidates may have paid money to get the recommendation letters from the politicians. Paid 50% up front and 50% paid after the position is secured.

The selection board will make the decision.

Ms. Sirisena may or may be appointed.

Would you be happy, if they go through such a dog and pony show, as it goes through a mock due process?

Would you prefer, Wimal Modawansa, who got over 300,000 preferential votes in Colombo be appointed? What About MaRa who got 425,000 preferential votes? What about the other Mara cronies?

Do you think that Ms. Sirisena being in that position will be on a very good position to get bribes from the peple? From the contractors who may be asked to carry our projects and demand the same 10% Mahinda Rajapaksa cut in omissions?

What guarantees do you have, if it was somebody else, they will work hard and work diligently?

Why is there a need in the first place?

What was the need to replace MaRa?

You are hung up on Caesar’s wife must be above suspicion. We should replace the President Maitripala Sirisena for taking back so many MaRa cronies. He should be the first to go, not Ms. Sirisena.

Prov. The associates of public figures must not even be suspected of wrongdoing. (The ancient Roman Julius Caesar is supposed to have said this when asked why he divorced his wife, Pompeia. Because she was suspected of some wrongdoing, he could not associate with her anymore.) Jill: I don’t think the mayor is trustworthy; his brother was charged with embezzlement. Jane: But the charges were never proved. Jill: That doesn’t matter. Caesar’s wife must be above suspicion. When the newspapers reported the rumor that the lieutenant governor had failed to pay his taxes, the governor forced him to resign, saying, “Caesar’s wife must be above suspicion.

        Amarasiri,

Ms Sirisena whether she has a Pretty face or not is irrelevant, She neither has a right nor has a mandate to meddle in political affairs on account of her father. This kind of culture needs to be rooted out. One does not see such activities in mature democracies. However she has a right to do her bit in advancing social improvements if she so wish but need to be mindful of damaging the credibility of the president. It is best she stays sway from such activities.

          Burning Issue

“Ms Sirisena whether she has a Pretty face or not is irrelevant, “

Agree. Just pointing out the contrast with the Medamulana Meeharakas. Amarasiri is not a fan of Medamulana Meeharakas, called MaRas, not because of their appearance, but because of their actions, as liars, crooks, criminals, murderers and thieves.

What Ms. Sirisena is, actually, an Ombudsman, appointed by her father, who happens to be President, and she seems to be getting to her work and doing something. We all should appreciate that in Sru Labka, where are many “Thanakola Pettos”, Grass Hopperr Catchers.

Do not get lost among the trees. Would you be happy if it was somebody else, but could not do the job properly? We have many MPs ans Ministers.

        Dear priyangika,

This “sexism” business can be taken much too far. If a girl is plain, we would do well to say nothing about her looks.

Surely, if she’s pretty, why not say so. Only don’t get vulgar and caddish the way this horrible “still-a-Minister” S.B. Dissanayake so often has been. And let’s not forget what Welgama (is Kumara his first name?) said to Rosy Senanayake when he was asked a serious question in Parliament.

I’m very disappointed with these 125 Ministers being appointed, but the fact is that we’re gradually becoming a more decent and civilised society because of Maithri. In a different place, I saw something about the cost of Chathu’s saree, and that person was saying that the father used to bicycle to work 20 years ago. So what? Cycling is wonderful. Provides exercise, is environment friendly etc.

A more sensible person had asked whether the President has to explain every fart that escapes him! Yes, four letter words escape even from people who normally use chaste language when the going gets as ridiculous as this.

By the way, “priyangika” who taught you English? Banalities like “means do not justify end” – straight out of “Practical English” they sound. No, no, I’m not correcting grammar or being snobbish or anything like that (and H.W. Samaranayake’s book has its uses) – it’s just that you don’t seem able to shake off conventionality.

Let this kid be! Start demonstrating, if need be, against the system that probably has made it necessary to appoint odious people to Parliament after we, the public, had defeated them at the hustings.

Can CT also investigate if the a daughter of Sirisena has formed an advertising company after her Fathers’s victory in Jan and the Lotteries Board business that was assigned to one agency was stalled and a re-tender for the business was called. Can you confirm if this is true or false?

We saw one advertising mafia under the previous regime. certainly don’t need another. Is this Yahapalanaya?
And why is Mr. President and the Prime minister allowing the same trends to continue?
Apart from Ms. Sirisena’s ad agency, the agencies that ran yahapalanaya campaigns are already bullying other agencies saying how the government is with them.
These are not small monies we’re talking about.
Last agency mafia created stock market manipulators and multi million dollar crooks.
      We’re heading the same way.
Please investigate and expose these crooks.
Ms. Sirisena is already calling up private companies seeking business.
Those businesses too wont have a choice but to bow down to political power.
We didn’t kick out the previous regime to see the same happening again

So, MS. Sirisena cannot do public service on a Volunteer Basis that will help people, because she is the daughter pf the President, and she is using minimal state resources? If Ms.Sirisena did not use them, what would those state resources be doing? Catching gross hoppers?

    Just Do It!

You have a real problem with Ms. doing real work and getting to the bottom of problems, and have no problem not chasing chasing all those crooks and cronies of MaRa who are liars, crooks, thieves, robbers, criminals and murders?

He does not look humble now. People are not interested about the history. They want the president to do the right thing. Rejected people like SB.,etc should not have been brought back from the back door. Appointing 100 odd ministers is a joke. Now, the daughter is trying to build back the image of her farther who has lost the confidence of the people by his foolish, selfish actions. Sobhitha Thera who spearheaded the campaign to bring in a common candidate condemned president’s such actions the other day when Rauf Hakeem met him.

We still have people worshiping the executive president who can not see him through.

CT, can you stop posting bullshit like this and actually get some proper news? I feel like CT knows it’s losing credibility and therefore is trying to attack every single minor mistake of the current government. They have just come into power, so they have to make some compromises but there can be no denying that they are slowly, but steadily attempting to make this country better. So i request that CT only report about Chathurika Sirisena if some sort of massive corruption has been uncovered instead of reporting worthless news like this which is simply a waste of time to read.

There is nothing wrong with a close relative of a senior VVIP doing things to assist in an important issue. The co-opting of close relatives by VIPs and VVIPs is not new but there must never be fleets of vehicles, regiments of security, large gatherings of staff. And it is wrong to speak about the father’s problems gone by.

However. Amartasiri appreciates the wotk she is doing, despite describing the problems her father had to face, to move forward.

      Thai is the message.

She is there to help, not hurt, as the Ombudsman.

    Give her a break guys…

She is no Hirunickers, Nether an Elite caste Rosy.

Rosy & Hirunickers show was on almost every night in Colombo last month, spelling out how to protect our Women getting raped , at the rate of one every 90 seconds.

They thundered the counter in front telling the Elite , Anglicans and the Vellalas how bad it is for their beautiful bodied gals to get cat calls from village Dalits who migrate to Colombo to do construction work.

And how they are planning to stop that too..

Here is Chatthu without even make up, trying to lift the stock of her extended families , friends and their friends in Pollonnaruwa .

And how she is going to protect them and their children from Meth Amphetamines..

I know it is a bit controversial , Army Sampath , Senaka, and few others migrated back to Colombo from their hiding places as soon as Chathu’s dad got the job.

May be poor Daddy didn’t know about it.I mean these imports are really political activists , and they were probably hiding during the previous regime.

Probably Daddy didn’t know that either.

Anyway cut a long story short, this lass is doing something to protect her people

Not to stop anything unlike Hirunichers and mentor Rosy.

Good luck to you dear . Keep up the good work.

But don’t try build Airports or Ports in Pollonnaruwa , because these facilities are only meant for Colombo so that the lite and the Anglicans don’t have to travel far to use these facilities.

Besides they don’t like your Pollonnaruwa folk graduating in to Elite class, by learning and training in top end jobs like Air Traffic controllers, ground Staff, Cabin Staff and as other administrators.

If you don’t believe me, just look what happened to the people in my part of the country..

I see some comments are critical of CT.

I for one am not. The only legitimacy that Chathurika has in herding a heap of pliant public servents and policeman to meetings in remote areas is that her father is the president. No matter how good her intentions are she has no legal basis to do what she did. This is how groundwork is laid for greater corruption. Nepotism in any form or brand must not be allowed to take root. The Rajapaksa Mafia showed us how perverted the course of justice takes when you permit nepotism to flourish. CT is right. This kind of ventures by Chathurika or for that matter any offsprings of any politicians must be nipped in the bud.

      BBS Rep
Nepotism is favoritism granted to relatives
Nepotism is a common accusation in politics when the relative of a powerful figure ascends to similar power seemingly without appropriate qualifications
Both above is not happening here, She is getting down to volunteer work, giving up a Presidential comfort, within the Presidential House.
As long as she is trying to help the rural community, by reaching them, what is the wrong and fuss about, whose theory is that Chathurika shouldn’t have a passion of her own for rural community, because her father is the president of the country. Whose assumption is that she didn’t have the same passion before Maithripala became president. If she has visited a rural community during Mahinda’s period, what would have been the consequences? Please think. Now as a Presidents daughter, media publicity she wouldn’t have bargained for, and the security if Mahinda’s sons are entitled for wherever they go,even now so does Maithri’s daughter as well. Those who write comments shall always aware that there are enough rural population that unable to access the normal channel of government machinery, and when the daughter represent the president, for a good cause, there is nothing wrong in it. It is nobody’s secret that Neel Balagaya (Blue Force) under Namal Rajapaksha was entirely “Blue” in its activities, I feel sorry for those innocent girls! Isn’t this a far better proposition?

    Cannot understand all the fuss.

This lady is leading a campaign to ERADICATE DRUG MENACE from Polonnaruwa along with the Chief Minister ON A VOLUNTARY BASIS. Public figures all over the world such as close relatives of prominent politicians, actors and actresses, elite sportsmen/women etc. regularly engage in such activities. Importance of people who lead these campaigns provide an added impetus to the campaign.

Only a person who supports drug dealers could oppose such noble efforts.

The withdrawal is not anything of backing off. They will come back with many more stunts. But this is not the time to confront. First is to deal with UNHRC. Once the call for International Inquiry is forced to fade, they all will be out there again.

Everybody knows how the 19th amendment reduced as provision to provide 100 ministers in the cabinet.

President Sirisena’s rationale must be “If Rajitha senaratne’s Son Chathura can enter parliament why on earth my daughter Chathurika can not”. If former Dentist Rajitha and his medical Doctor wife think that politics is much more important than a good education there is no surprise that president Sirisena being not that educated like the Senaratnes thinking the same way. Hence, he has got panicked and started this journey. Chandrika is the only politician whose children are educated. Daughter is doing a great service to the world by treating human beings and the son treating loving animals.

She is not doing prostitution with her father’s power like namal and yoshitha did. She is trying to do some good things to poor mass. There are millions of mistakes were in former govrn. and this gov too, CT should stop publishing bullshit like these. If she is doing drug smuggling, selling girls, steeling musuem and killing using her father’s power you CT start publishing until then pls shut the fk up.

Chaturika is doing the right thing. As far as people accept what she does, it is Ok with us as far as she does not steal peoples money. Namal, on the other hand stole peoples money with her father’s power. Chathurika will not certainly do that. For the general public, it is not a big deal whether it is president’s daughter or not. What they need is real benefit from a true citizen of the country who can get things done. We thank Sirasa for giving publicity for her and expect more social work from her.

We sincerely hope she will not run night races in Polnnaruwa like Namal did. That’s the difference between Namal and Chatu.

Agree. She speaks with great affection and appreciation of her father-
I don’t believe it’s a boast – please leave her alone to get on with her good work.
      Blessings on you Chaturika!

All these problems arise due to MISFITS becoming Executive presidents and not because the Executive presidential system is bad. To solve this major problem either (i)the way the executive president is elected should be changed or(ii) the executive presidential system should be abolished totally. Executive president should be a broadminded person who does not have an inferiority complex. Unfortunately, most of our executive presidents had and have this weakness. A highly qualified person will be ideal for such a position. How can we get a highly qualified person elected. Introduce a minimum qualification such as a postgraduate degree(M.Sc.,M.A.,Ph.D. etc). Dr. Jayampathy Wickramaratne, Dr Harsha De Silva, and other qualified MPs if there are any would be possible candidates for 2020 presidential elections. Sri Lankans will be able to breathe a sigh of relief if that happens.

Ms. Sirisena should be appointed Ombudsman and help the govt officials to be effective and active.

    Paddy Mills in Polonnaruaw
    Hotels in Polonnaruwa
    Large Restaurants in Polonnaruwa
Sand mining illegal all across the District
Kudu SLFP and Kudu ACMC ministers and deputy ministers

Yahapaalanaya President taken for a ride or is he and Ranil taking the country for a ride?

How is that CT always censors any question on the President’s family now? Why is it taboo to ask how the President’s son goes to London for higher education? who is paying?

At least the Bloody Bandas had their family members paying and sponsoring them when they went to England and CBK got a french govt scholarship I am told.

Poor Harsha and Eran….so much for being on Facebook riding buses like Basil and posing for photos(Harsha did look a clownish and identical to Basil and MR posting behind a steering wheel of a bus and posting it on Social media but he did great work and is capable and smart and outspoken) and Eran W riding trains to Moratuwa for once in their privileged evangelical lives; all their image boosting on Facebook did not pay off? Eran even talked about family and dogs and his cricket days at that Elite school Royal where he shined really well. Harsha gets what? Eran gets what? peanuts or is it Cadju leli for ministerships?

Ranil cannot even appoint them to do good work based on their PROVEN abilities and training. Instead Galleon gets the plums. Is it all Malick S’s advise to Ranil because of other reasons? ARe they all set to steal and plunder in a short time? Does Ranil feel threatened by them or is there another motive here to usurp My3 with US support soon and establish a dictatorship backed by US like in Egypt.

What is the rationale in giving ministerships to people who abused Sirisena on stage?

How many ministers does India have?Cabinet Ministers

Is it because we Sinhalese have a lower IQ that we need that many Ministers, deputies and State ministers?

LOOK at even the illogical allocations. Kiriella gets Education and Highways? That is a new first!

A public official has to do a public duty. The impression created here is that Chaturika has commanded public officials thus elevating her self as a “Presidential Princess”. But it is these public officials who boot-lick by giving up there right to chair and worship the princess. In doing so, not only can they cover the sins by taking her on the garden path but increase their promotional prospects.

The poor farmers! they always suffer.

This is putting the public attention she got with her father’s sudden elevation to the president to best possible use to do some service to poor people I suppose. This happens in all over the world as wives, daughters and even sons to a lesser extent, of the leaders get the attention of people enabling them indulging in public/welfare activities. What is wrong in that if the outcome and intentions are good? But her way of doing that seemed little immature. There are several much better framed and effective ways of dissemination/facilitation which we older people know through experience. We think she will probably learn with the maturity to not starting/starring with undue authoritative note. We are not interested of this Knitty gritty as these are trivial issues. These patriots have and had more serious issues to talk about, running through being lenient to corruption, misuse, frauds and other crimes under last government to appointing a mega cabinet with corrupt and distracted politicians with 90+ cabinet members and deputies. Those illegal ethanol and drug businesses are putting up their ugly head under this set up too etc. All around us are examples of such systemic breakdowns inclusive of environmental issues, drug trade, trade deficits, killings and crimes and problems that have no simple cause. Let young people take the initiative and motivate others. We should be patient and monitoring to give a slap to stop at the right time if twisting for vested interests and damaging the country, which we never did due to fear earlier. Most elites and even government officers have the intrinsic least understanding of problems of this poor communities dwelling in remote villages in Polonnaruwa. The Government would need many such voluntary programs with more affectionate care (kidney problems etc). We as a part of that community are aware of the hardships these villagers go though and the severity of deficiencies in inputs that should be delivered at their door steps. Can these elite philanthropists in the gossip world do it. Practically never irrespective of their political affiliations. The poor farmers! they always suffer if something is not done outside the existing bureaucratic structure.
