Twenty-one MPs representing different parties have come together under the Muslim Parliamentarians forum to demand justice for the Blasphemy of their God Almighty Allah by Buddhist monk Galagoda Atte Gnanasara.
This is the second time the Muslim parliamentarians have banded together to protest against government inaction. The previous occasion was when 16 of the 18 MPs signed a petition to President Mahinda Rajapaksa. MPs A H M Azver and late Abdul Cader of Kandy refused to sign the Aluthgama petition claiming it was politically motivated.
We publish below the letter sent to the President by the Muslim Parliamentarian forum:

It amazes me how our Sri Lankan people hue and cry about religion & race ,( all citizens included) , does anyone really try to even think that it is more important to find-out the economical situation of the country ?
Do they not feel the impact of the loss of buying power? The struggle?
Are thy not interested to find out how much of money we owe the world? and how much is needed to run the country and try to spend time to learn the situation in a simple way as possible ?
Unbelievable the time people are willing to waste on petty racism and bigotry and worry about one race going to over take another , damn it we do not even know if the world may even last that long, one nuclear war and the end of story .
And even worse we are not sure if we can survive the current international economic crisis, with a bankrupt empty treasury.
what happens if w end up like Greece tomorrow ? anything is possible be prepared . we all may even end up on the pavements , that is the reality of the country is in now.
What wonders can be done if people unite ,have discussions and try to help each-other and without becoming a scapegoat for politicians try to support the government and country in these difficult times .
W are not like other nations we are a 100% literate people and intelligent, when will our people of all races & religion realize it is time to terminate this cancer of fake hypocritical love for race & religion that has ruined this beautiful nation once and for all ?
When will people learn to question politicians when they promise to bring them rice from the moon ,to explain how?
When people are selling Public assets ,people should ask for explanation why and at the same time when the opposition is opposing it which is always the case with all our oppositions, question them the their alternative for the problem.
Please stop wasting time commenting in future on racism and bigotry , the truth is no one loves no one , not people of their race or religion.
Everyone loves only themselves that is the bitter truth.
If anyone is making a noise in the name of religion and race , it is only due to insecurity and the fear of loosing the willing Milking cows , the fear of loosing the free and easy Luxuries .
finally socialism and Democratic mixed style governance too have failed .
It is time to think of a autocratic Chinese model , and ban all religions for a set period of time , if people want to pray let them do it at home.

Your comment is open and sincere but we need the current situation to increase so that people will forget their everyday struggle to cope with the ever rising cost of living. The government talks big but have done very little ( in slang it means that loud and long fart but no shit). It is Nainar, a title usually given to Tamils belonging to the Jain faith but could be also used as a title to show honour or respect to Tamils belonging to other faiths. Eg Nainar Marrickar. Everybody has the right to research and find out about anything, but it is a decent thing for any human being, especially one pretending to be a good Buddhist, to respect other religions, speak no evil about other religions, and to shut their loud mouths if they know nothing about other religions. Shooting off your mouth to insult and attack another religion, when you know nothing about it, is not only idiotic, but can have serious consequences.
The majority in this country do not agree with this troublemaker. If he wants to learn about other religion, he should find scholars to explain it to him like a gentleman, not act like a thug who lies about that religion and the people.

His mentality is to keep on insulting whatever the explanations or reasons given. Also has he any recognized status in the Buddhist community to call for clarifications or explanation . It could be understood if the Mahanayakes or similar person who has some status wanted it. Why should anyone oblige Gnanasara. Gnanasara has been accepted as an ‘dishonest and unruly’ character.
