Namal Facing Money Laundering Charges

Just weeks after his brother, Yoshitha was arrested for allegedly been involved in money laundering, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, the eldest son of former President is also alleged to be involved in a similar scandal.

Namal and YoshithaThe Colombo Magistrate today ordered the immediate freezing of four bank accountants belonging to Gowers Corporate (Pvt) Ltd Corporation, which is believed to have been purchased by Namal. According to the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) the monies used in this deal was sourced through illegal means and also violated the Money Laundering Act.

Along with Rajapaksa, 7 others are also currently under investigation, and other than for Rajapaksa the other 7 have been ordered to not leave the country.

Inevitable destiny has its own way of apprehending two from the same boat and placing them in opposite cells. The two who saw eye to eye hitherto will stare eyeball to eyeball henceforth.

The octopus has four more arms to to seize 4 more Rajas. What the country sees is no more than the unfolding of fate, which has its uncanny way of dispensing retribution.

A property down Gower Street was bought by a listed company chairman during the MARA regime and gifted to Namal.

So please don’t blame Namal for buying this property.

          Sylvia Haik

If I may, I would add money laundering charges for MR’s donation to VP in 2005 just before the presidential elections. Further criminal charges should be brought in for dealing with and financing a terrorist organisation proscribed more than 32 countries.

Where did the clan get the money to finance VP’s terrorist activities, drug smuggling, running brothels, other rackets, …. or inheritance from grandma?

Thanks NV. If greed is a crime, that too must be added to the Rajapakse misdemeanours. They never paid SriLankan Airlines for gratuitous flights for them and their sycophants, nor the television channels for carrying their ads, nor the telephone companies.

It is their family sport. Then, that trickled down to the extended families through marriages and the extended families of the extended families through links.

        • 3
          2

Guess money laundering is another name for “investment” minus parliamentary approval. But if the money is obviously in that Gowers corporate, then simply take it over, I say, and stop the prosecutions. The investment must have come to fruition by now, and will be good for country assets.

(unless the Rajapaksas were hiding their investments and would only give all back to the country when the more fortuitous day came about when they all came back to power. But those are simply technicalities, and the onus should be on the family for starting the investment-scheme in the first place).

But aside from the family that had considerable assets since Colonial era – as Chandrika’s family has-, and so we can put these investments down to “personal asset” investments, one wonders about the “links” that Rohan speaks about. And there are many linkages of cronies and advisors of Rajapaksa buying all kinds of property in the major hubs of the USA. Now that set of trillions will be more difficult to intercept.

I mean, it is only those with considerable wealth from bygone Colonial period who can indulge in country-asset investment – that is easy to intercept and be returned, if the current Gosl has the guts to do so, as this Gosl has indeed.

But when the smaller man tries to elevate himself this way, and commit the same investment-procedure-technique (saying that if our leaders are doing so, so why can’t we), it is downright theft! What a bunch of traitors feigning nationalism! They forget that the leaders did so in historical “Crown” fashion. Commoners daring to do so, were hung, drawn and quartered.

        During the MR regime –

        a) No one believed physical assualts to anyone is a crime

        b) No one believed rape and murder are the high crimes

        c) No one believed keeping silent could festate the wound even further

        d) No one believed women too have their rights
        e) No one belived that Ministers should work by their own not to the agenda of Rajapakshe thieves

        f) No one believed that everyone has right to speak
        g) No one believed that Journos should be given their due rights
        h) No one believed that Sarath Fonseka should be respected for all his sacrifices

        etc.

The kind of issues had been common in the country during the last regime. These men had worked as anarchy governed. Even today, I cant close my eyes reminding the words mother left last. It was her place and I have to fight to get the land back to right hands. Believe or Rjaapakshes had been above all kind of laws.

I have never seen a man in lanken TV – who boasted about Raja that much. Weeratunga is said to be classmate of Maharaja – was unable to guide Raja well. Whatever being discussed, he nodded his head, but today, president of the country looks at the issues even more sharp.

Now they will say this also a Political rivalry and an act of HUNTING!

    • 10
      0

Political rivalry or not he is caught with such a large amount of money. So do the Rajapakses think only the poor and helpless should go to jail and the big time sharks should stay unharmed?

The fact is if the Rajapakse were truly innocent then they will not end in Jail. Even for Yoshitha to get arrested there was a definite Prima Fascia case otherwise the Magistrate cannot take the case for hearing and issue a detention order. We will wait and see how things turn.

In many criminal cases information is certainly provided by those who are associated to them. Are Rajapakses suggesting that politicians should allow their colleagues to thrive making money, if they don’t then it is political rivalry! Certainly if Rajapakses were proved innocent it is political rivalry but not so if they were proved for the charges leveled against them.

This is certainly a serious case as they abused their position, privilege and influence to commit the supposed crime and the law authorities must take it very severely, otherwise it will become a habit for politicians to rob the country. It should never be taken as a lesson taught by Rajapakses to young politicians how to earn quick money, but instead serve as a stern warning to all aspiring politicians never dare such a venture and ruin their life.

So let the legal authorities do their duty and save the future of this country becoming bankrupt due to the very rulers of the country!

Most Sinhalese have forgotten the past.
Mahinda Rajapaksa’a three sons behaved like animals and more superior than anyone else in our country.

Most Ministers and MPs were speechless and completely silent.

Mahinda Rajapaksa, his brothers and three sons were the main characters of drama and have committed numerous crimes.

Now they come to media and talk like saints in front of the cameras.

First and foremost they must be brought to justice and incarcerated for life for false speech.

What a shame that Mahinda was attiring a law suit.
I have not heard that he has practiced the law in his life at any court.

    What a shame

One day Buruwansa will also put that law suit and go to court.

    Shame …..Shame….Shame…

        Hamlet or Omlet,

Majority voted for him are all from villagers. Media men kept them blind over the years. Even today, they believe that only person who liberated nation is Raja – no collective forces did the job but Magical power of Raja – all these villagers would hail that Sumanadasa illiterate Astrologer as the royal astrolger- all these folks would offer their lovely ones if Rajapakshe would ask for their personal satisfactions. All in all people are that stupid – even today they would not care all records make clear that Rajakashes ate trillions of the tax payers funds: Main thing for those poor folks is to surivive the day that is it. They thought Rajapakshe is the man who brought high ways… for the first time allow them to use such high ways are beyond world wonders for them. So long these folks would stay away from Facts of any thing, life would go for them this way.

      • 4
        0

Basics of the basics seems tobe miles away from Hamlet. There are enough of your kind in the country – not only in ours but also in entire developing countries.

Else, you would not have raised it naively as to why the folks (4.8 millions of vote eligible) voted for the MR et al.

I paid a visit to lanka shortly before the PE and after that twice. Before the election, I wondered where ever I was there, people spoke about the all magical powers of MR et al. As if North koreans were instructed to mourn in the occasion of desesead leader ( like robot controlled men and women did it, they shed tears (those may be not generated from tear glands mostly) – the very same was the case in the country.

The answer is – this is common to Pakistan
The answer is – this is common to anywhere where majority folks are living under poverty – far from facts – there the miniority educated have to suffer… that is the bad side of the democracy. In Europe, in few hundreds of votes a Law maker could destine his futre – that is why mainly, those candidates in the Uk or Scandinavian and Canada are fully dependent on the votes of migrant communities. After getting them elected, they just forget everything not that their hearts works towards the problems faced by migrants.

          Pinthuappu;

The Minister of Education should make the Subject, which in the old days was called Civics, Compulsory for all school children.

This would enable them to understand what Democracy and the Vote mean, and Question why they are Voting for their Preferred Candidate

          • 4

May well be – since they reformed the school sylabusses time to time, the knowledge that the pupils got by the time they were ready to leave the schools were not much. My sisters and brothers had learnt a lot at schools in the aspect of history, geography and social science – that we could see while exchanging with them then, but since they introdcued one subject as Social studies covering all the previous subjects, the pupils did not learn much or may also be possible test oriented areas only they covered during the schooling.

I am telling you the truth – some lanken graduates I met myself in Europe – had no knowledge on heating system and how they function within 4 doors- EVEN IF these groups were degree holders in BSC (PHYSCIAL SCIENCE) – many of them were book worms without any practical knowledge – among them few were their have their 2 year old kids worn warm cloths not allowing kids to breath in well. This then the doctors had well noticed and had adivsed parents to read and undrstand the basics before they wrapped the body of little ones- making them even more sick. Had these parents thought bit – about the phsyics and general biology, would they ever do so ? Sure, lankens in general are not used to hard winters that we experieence in Europe. But still where heaters are on, we still have indoor temperatures at least 20 degrees. So why to cover the body of the little ones them proper breath.

The people voted for Rajapucksir because the lankan voters are grass eaters and wankers. If the Devil in all his ugliness came out of Hell and promised the voters a free bottle of arrack and meal they would without hesitation give their votes with a added bonus of their signatures signed with their blood.
Lankans don’t give a damn about the state of the country as long as they can get something or all things free. Apologies to all the good, educated, honest, clean minded lankans may God bless you all.

A very good example of lankans to the world was the recent skinning of a live Eagle. It was a shame, a damn crying shame, as to what those dim witted Yakko wankers did. Those are the shaggers who will vote the devil in for a bottle of arrack.

The days of good lankans are all gone and what is remaining of those good days is only a minute fraction. When they are gone the future generation of lankans will be lawless, ugly minded, mentally retarted, wankers. This is noticeable from the present names unlike the good old days.
One shivers to think what lankans will look like in another 25 years from now. Frankenstein in looks, Dracula by nature, and Lucifer the devil in mentality. One can just imagine what the Govt will look like at that time. Saddam Hussein, his sons, and thugs will be looked at like boys scouts.

The good will suffer and the bad will enjoy only for a time.
When the end comes the bad and ugly will fall into HELL likes leaves from a withered tree.

All is not lost. May the one good God of all creation show mercy to Lanka.

We need to check their genetic regions express for unique nature of amnesia.

They only go after anythign that focus on them only. This is common to my family too.. I wonder each time meeting them – I though compare it with those of europe.
I have no doubt, the men leave the lies against Patali Champika today are all liars work for money. Those young chaps regardless of their family backgrounds should be brought before the court. I have no doubt if anything occured by mistake, Patali would have done the due without delay. He is pro justic personality. Unlike Teenager -Udaya Gona he will never work for money money moeny…

Apple does not fall far from the tree.

I hope Rajapakse and his family will fade away from the public consciousness. The country and its people are much bigger and important than these utterly useless bozos.

A single housemaid who does a honest job in the Middle East without wearing patriotism on her sleeve and contributes to the country’s foreign-exchange reserves is more important to the country than all these born parasites put together, who will die without doing a honest day’s work in their entire lives. The press should take attention away from these parasites and do a piece on housemaids to focus citizens attention on the unseen/unknown people who keep this country going.

Mahinda was a part of a short-sighted, self-serving political system that created Prabakaran. How crazy we and the country have become to pay homage to a man for getting rid of a monster he himself help create?

If the Rajapakses were successful in their dynastic project and ruled for long years, what sort of a monster we would have had to have to get rid of the Rajapakses? Prabakaran would have looked like a choir boy.

Even today whose monies are being wasted – MR et al abuse it at large. How many are given him as guards. Is this king of corruption that valuable person to be gurded this way ?

Just to send the message to villagers – he touches and cuddle any young ones regardless of the place – but never uttered a single word at the time Kuliyapitya boy being denied to get school admission. It was his areas the man got elected to the parliament again. Why this man behaved so is my question.

When I first heard of his imminent arrest, I was thinking it would be for Wasim Thajudeen’s killing. But now we understand it will be for money laundering to purchase shares of Gowers Corporate (Pvt) Ltd. Then in that case how about the shares of Lanka Hospitals purchased by Gota, the old Australian Embassy, now a palatial structure in front of Museum purchased by Namal baby? The Marriot Hotel in Dubai? Just to name a few what I know. It is all coming in bits and pieces and difficult to map the extent of the family’s embezzlement. The full extent of the loot must be made public, for people to realize what type of mega greedy people the Rajapakse clan are. They don’t have love for the country. Instead they were there to serve themselves, to satiate their personal greed for immoral wealth. This will be the legacy MR will be remembered by, for many generations to come. He has left us in a soup.

By the way, Yoshita got slammed in the dog pound again until Mar. 24th. He must be having a rough time without the princely comforts of home.

These were not clear to general public – (predominant village folks) They thought what media men inclu. that one eyed giat – Hudson from ITN did add the truth: People were made fools them to consolidate power. How can this be gone this way- if Media men worked not being biased.

I think we have to put entire blame on those biased journos who brainwashed the majority folks to save the bums of Rajapakshes. Man is a good actor – I hate him from day one. I never saw anything to have done by him good except his term ended the TERROR – but latter was a collective achievement – though the cake was not shared to others. It was again the lanken artists and journos kept him above everyhting calling him Raja.
He the stupid man thought Laws WILL never catch him, nor will there be any space to come after him. But what was unexpected is happendd chasing him home on the 08th January, thanking to golden son of the nation MOST REPECTable Sobitha thero and his iron efforts not forgetting CBKs role to do the job though being away from active politics. All in all having met all synergies, the bunch was eliminated as a glass wall collapse into pieces. Today we are priviledged to criticise anyone regardless of the status – law is moving forward, much more to achieve though.. I am happy as a person who longed ot see it happeneing. Greetings from Rome /Italy

Greetings returned from home soil. The view from here looks sobering. Yahapalana is just coming into grips with the extent of the plunder of national wealth and natural resources, whilst the wheels of justice keep turning slowly but surely. But there still will be the wall of Executive immunity afforded to former Head of State and his wife, which will prevent their indictment and incarceration. But the rest of the gang members in the ‘fun house’ will become fair game for abuse of privileges. Although sometimes one gets the feeling the Yahapalana jockeys are holding their horses and not letting the justice system to perform its duties true to form. Some members are backdoor entrees who now enjoy Cabinet and Ministerial privileges making it harder to imagine how they could ever be brought to justice, when they themselves are now the law makers in the land.

But one thing is for certain. There is new found freedom in the land, to laugh at each other, free speech, appreciate and criticize whatsoever and whomsoever we want is quite liberating. The fiery eruption of religious bigotry has been subdued to a great extent, although on occasions, the embers blow hot and cold which keeps us minorities on edge. The economy is not all doom and gloom as it sounds, but is poised to take off with many countries showing investment interest. The negative credit rating in Fitch, down by one notch has had its impact, but plans are afoot to rectify this, and it looks like we might have to bite the bullet for a while.

If people gave them big mandate, nothing would have worked this way. Then a single government could do the job better and in an smart way. But today, it is though a good one entwined with thugs and fomer wrong doer too. They entered the parliament and MY3 and RW have not easy to get on with the bunch: Thats is why we see it the move is snail like. All in all, I see some progress. wE SEE IT being out of country better than you do. I believe things would work to their goals in the course of time. Only problem would be as MARSHAL treaty pumped funds to Germany after the war is over, no treaties of the day are ready to help the nation with big fund donations. MR as embezzeler distroyed a lot – as no westerners woudl repeat the mistake anymore.

Most of Namal’s black money is in the foreign accounts of Indika Karunajeewa. Karunajeewa’s wife Shadia Karunajeewa is also a Director of CSN TV Channel of Yoshitha Rajapakse. Still they have failed to arrest Shadia Karunajeewa along with Yoshita and Nishantha ranatunga.

What Rajapakse means by telling he is being taken ‘political revenge’ is something only the politicians can understand and may be some intelligent (nonpolitical) citizens (like me) who can read ‘between the lines’.

What Rajapakse is conveying without directly saying it, is, he is actually addressing the politicians who are putting him into grave trouble:

“Every president and head of state did what I did and made a lot of money, and all helped their kith and kin. Who really did care for the people and the country in that real sense of the meaning? No one! You and I know no one really cared for the people and all are only interested in their votes and they all simply played cheating games with the masses. No one is a socialist, none are communists, but all are simply capitalist camouflaged in communist attire and slogans. All of us lived lavish life styles, but we paraded with the masses shouting slogans “down with the capitalists”! This is what politicians are you and me together. Why are you now taking action against me for what I did ignoring all my predecessors who were no different to me. You are therefore taking political revenge on me.”

      Tamil from the north

“They should have sunk these greedy bastards in that water that day itself.”

Didn’t your parents/elders teach you anything better? You sound like a typical Tamil/Sinhalese, raging 24/7/52.

Was VP your academic and moral guru? Perhaps Gota taught you to be angry all the time.

Hey NV, stop being an arse for a change. Are you calling me a student of VP, you axe carrying bearded arse in a sarong? VP and his gang murdered the entire intellectual Tamil community and you are connecting me with him? Stop insulting people, otherwise I will unleash a barrage of insults at you. What do you propose me to do with buggers who have been the cause of so many innocent deaths, they plundered the country, raped a whole lot of women, treated national wealth like their own, robbed so many people of their freedom and you want to wish them good luck, idiot go tell that to KA Sumanasekeram and ilk. Don’t shoot your mouth at me.
