From Domestic Goddess To The Face Of Domestic Violence

The photographs of Charles Saatchi grabbing his wife by the throat are so shocking because they remind us that Lawson’s life isn’t as picture-perfect as it looks on screen, writes Hadley Freeman.

Lawson insisted her lifestyle was “normal”. It turned out Lawson was more right than she knew: (albeit probably not in the way she meant.) So, this is not Domestic Violence, because it exists only in Saudi Arabia.

Who drink Arrack and Katu Kambi and beat their wives? Definitely not the Muslims. So Polo you need not go far to Saudi Arabia, you may be one who beat your wife after a round of Kasippu or you might even find very many in your neighbourhood. You are just another RACIST. Why the hell are sending people to Saudi or other muslim countries? Are their petro-dollars good for you? So why are screaming amount Saudi Arabia, why dont you get down your Sinhalese from all the muslim countries and stop buying petrol from the muslim countries…. Idiot…

Lawson: “Everyday you delight in chocolates you jampacked dammit, don’t you know I’ve got diabetes.

Nigella: “I wanted you’d make a sweet fluffy sugar daddy”.

Why doesn’t he squeeze her tits instead of her neck. When something is freely available you don’t know its value.Nothing like forbidden fruit.

natasha, are you saying that a husband can’t squeeze the wife’s tits?Is that domestic violence?

What about you?does your husband not squeeze them?Or are you not married?Typical srilankan mentality,do things but don’t want to talk about it as it is considered vulgar.Hypocrites.

My contention is that this old fool is squeezing the wrong areas, when having such a beautiful buxom wife.

Natasha, the main problem here is that this man does not know how to handle his wife.It is like having a car and not driving, instead vandalising it.Who will vandalise their own car, unless stupid.

car is given just as an example. Now don’t come after me saying wife is not a car etc.

Shankar, if your wife try to put her hand inside your trouser and fondle with your private parts while having a meal in a restaurant in the presence of other patrons, how would you call her? And how would you react? How do you want us to call her?

Would it be any different if a man does the same thing to with his wife’s breast in a similar situation?

of the two I would prefer my private parts being fondled to being throttled. One gives pleasure while the other gives pain.i suppose that is life.you can’t have pleasure forever. Its pain and pleasure ,pain and pleasure, pain and pleasure…..like heads and tails in a coin. However Lord bhuddha said life is suffering which is very gloomy indeed,so i would be grateful for my privates to be fondled even in a restaurant,a little bit of pleasure in this life of suffering most welcome.

A Good Man is a Man who is good to his wife…

“Among His signs is the fact that he has created spouses from among yourselves, so that you may find tranquillity with them; and he has put love and mercy between you. In that are signs for people who reflect.”

They (wives) are garments for you, while you are garments for them.”

Really, Colombo Telegraph, I am surprised at the sexist comments that you allow on this website.

This is what distinguishes a Western chat forum and a comments forum catering for uncouth Sri Lankans.

    Shame on you.

Chandra,i’am surprised that you don’t understand what sexism is.

One of the most important aspects of sexism is discrimination of woman in jobs. That is the most important aspect and should be focused on by women without getting distracted by other things which they perceive as sexism. The only way that women can be empowered is to get top jobs, because then you get the power with the job.I will give an example where once i had selected two women for senior executive positions and just when i was about to send them the letters,my boss heard about it and reprimanded me saying that woman will be fighting and that they will not like to travel out of the office etc etc.Though i did not agree with his viewpoints i had to cancel the appointments because of the old man who was living in yesterdays era.

The second aspect of sexism which i suppose you are focused on which in my opinion is secondary in importance is the fact that some men try to promote certain social roles for women. They say that a womans place is in the home to bring up the kids,or they say that she is best suited to be a house wife,or is good for knitting and sewing etc.In other words they are suited for all the things that men do not like to do.The boardroom for making important decisions is reserved for men.

Making jokes about sex etc does not come under these categories. Both man and women are needed to have sex and ribald jokes will come out of it whether we like it or not.Women must learn to give as much as they get in this area,if they want to be considered as equal to men.

You can see that the way Nigella lawson is exposing her bosom she is not a prude and will not take offence at any remarks about her sexuality, but will certainly take offence at being throttled.

Women must get focused on the aspects i mentioned without hitting all over the place like an unscientific boxer.

I think all three points this guy Shanker makes are correct.
Lots of women make jokes about men, some may be funny some may not as with all jokes, but this not sexism, its humour.

Sick comments made by some – suitable perhaps on a pornographic web forum – while discussing a more serious issue – namely domestic violence is not limited to certain countries or socio-economic or religious groups only- indicates how sick part of our society is.

also some parts of society don’t have sense of humour.example some japanese go for classes on how to laugh.Fortunately srilankans don’t have that problem and have great sense of humour.many people in the west like paul have forgotten how to laugh and are pill popping daily for depression.Anti depressents are a multi billion dollar industry in the west and do not seem to work anyway. They should come and live in srilanka enjoy our humour and uncomplicated lifestyle and throw away the pills for good.Life is too short anyway to be taken too seriously.
