The No Confidence Motion against Mahinda Rajapaksa and the cabinet was passed for the second time amidst severe disruptions by UPFA MPs, a short while ago.
The UPFA MPs staged a protest in the House without allowing the daily proceedings to take place. UPFA MP Arundika Fernando took over the Speaker’s Chair and prevented Speaker from conducting a vote by name.
At that point, the Speaker conducted a voice vote, without the first clause of the No Confidence Motion against Rajapaksa moved by JVP two-days ago. Today it was again moved by the JVP. The Speaker was shielded by a large number of Police officers who entered into the House.
The Speaker conducted the proceedings standing in the aisle, surrounded by a chain of officers guarding him and the mace.
All MPs representing the UNP, the JVP and the TNA voted in favour of the No Confidence Motion while no one officially opposed it. The UPFA did not engage in the entire process and kept protesting.

Hello, Mr. President, this is my third warning to you.
Don’t go out tonight.
Especially, do not go out with your security. Ok, that is funny. What I want to say is STAY AT HOME TONIGHT, especially. Stay in an inner chamber. Even tomorrow, I don’ know. Keep an eye on your security people. Someone might ACT funny, may be not YOUR security. Even if something happened, nobody would know right away. I mean, it will be like, olden days in some countries, if somebody goes to heaven, they don’t issue the news immediately until another person sworn in. Do you know what I mean? The news will be blocked until we……. ok, I am stopping here. I don’t feel well today. I will be back on Sunday, may be. That’s a clue. I am feeling nauseous for some reason.
/

Hey Champers, you should ask that pambaya to go to a paddy field instead…
/
PUK Jayantha / November 16, 2018
Champa dear,
Feeling nauseous? Do a pregnancy check.
/
Champa / November 16, 2018
One more line.
Danger could be extended to Sunday night. Could be anything even flying objects. Oh, I heard even today some objects were hurled at the Speaker. There was a comedy movie in 1990s called flying daggers.
On a separate matter, UPFA’s behaviour is out of ordinary. They are so violent. Who would be violent in Parliament, of all the places and especially on this occasion, knowing very well that the whole world is watching??? If anybody analyses their behaviour, its like they are super confident that they will be in power and that there won’t be any repercussions of their behaviour. How could that be. And one must remember that they have no going back. Their unusual bravery in breaking all rules and laws is a puzzle to me.
/
Kalu Nangi / November 16, 2018
Glad you realized that!
UPFA, Pohottuwa, MR, Sira and Co, have been breaking rules all along!
Only people like you, who blindly adored them, supported them and never saw the ugly side of these hooligans.
/
Bubbuladewi / November 16, 2018
Champo,
are u still in the view that MR is geunine. And he is a hearted politician:
Today we got to know videos he himself had commanded his hooligans to behave so.
Honouralble speaker is in his age group. Nevertheless his men to be engaged to treat him that criminally is beyond all ethics and morals.
UNPrs and other politcians were normal today. Most of them were seated in their chairs.
Why does SIRISENA stay thinking what to be the next ?
See, if MR is that wise, why he took no measures against those hooligans today.
He is the only person that could control over today s criminal behavours.
But he did not…
Can you please come back to us with a constructive argument ?
I saw him giving orders to some of his men to throw those heavy items on to Speaker.
WHat a shame… a septagenarian to behave so … I wonder, why these men behave so.. would not they die ever ?

Babbuladewi ,
MARA never thinks twice to lie in public because he doesn’t know
anything else . He knows very well that he is talking to a bunch of
stupid people who votes to him can not find the difference between
the truth and lie ! In his speech yesterday to parliament he lied
through all available holes and the most noteworthy one was him
telling that ” I don’t care this prime minister chair , I had been on it
and I had been a president , I didn’t accept it because I wanted it but
because of a situation where there was a coup to kill the president.”
His whole speech was full of lies . He spent about two years talking
about becoming the prime minister ! This Poya , before next Poya ,
before Vesak , before this time before that time etc; And now , even
after the country’s Supreme intervention , he is sticking to the chair
uttering he doesn’t care about it ! He is the master mind behind all
these chaos and he thinks he is not caught ! His future heir to the
throne was careful not to get involved in the brawl . Everything was
according a clean plan(but stinking).

Power of English: All this fuss, where our legislators behaved like monkeys in the eyes of the whole world was because of Sirisena’s ignorance of good old English language. What Sirisena said was that he first wants Clothes to be removed from Mahinda and then they can go ahead”.
.
This was misunderstood as Sirisena Wants First Clause Removed From Mahinda …blah… blah..
/
Buramphisincho / November 16, 2018
It is not power of English but the cultural differences between two groups.
1) Mahinda, Mythrieepala and their supporters ( most of them are villagers and those who are brainwashed by extremist paranoiac theories such as foreign/western invasion etc)
Some of these men are highly educated going by degrees. But they still support extremists as if they have been vaccinated to behave so. Like for example GMOA in SL would go on strikes if their children would not have been offered admission to popular schools in Colombo or they as medicos would no thave been put above altar.
Can you imagine ?
2) Ranil, Sajith, Muslims, Tamils and their supporters( most of them are educated and liberal thinkers that are more into LAW and order, Disipline, Democracy etc)
As colombo UNI historians are in the view, lankens in general are not familiar with open discussions about country’s politics. That sort of culture is not used to them and that is why most feel that no matter some politicians are highly corrupted, but people feel not to change their support easily.
Those who respect others values, would also tolerate anything. That is how people have been raised by their parent houses.
/

You got it here totally wrong. The NCM was drafted and submitted in Sinhala langague by JVP MP Herath. This was posted in CT day before yesterday. Please recheck it Edwin, however, following yesterday s meeting to have held with President, those party leaders have been asked to change the first clause. See, this is just buying the time only. May be illfated SIRISENA would think that people are even stupdier than he is. Now people have not the smidgen of faith in Sirisena. People are angered as if they would do anything and everything against Sirisena.
Just buying time them to plan next evil step, he has asked to repeat the votum today.
However, considering the circumtances in the parliament today, honourable speaker did his job asking for a voice vote again. There had been no other options left him to go for any other better ways. Now president should and can respect the results. So would any head of state do in such a dangerous situation. Else, these violent leaders would bring the situation from region to region and the end the entire country would turn out to be civil war within the country.

It was wild. It was pandemonium. It was madness. It was terror. It was appalling disgrace for Sri Lanka. Never happened before in the 100-year history of democracy in this country. Diplomats were filming from the gallery. MARA-SIRA underworld politicians occupied Speaker’s Chair and surrounded the area and totally disrupted the proceedings. The utterly revolting MARA-SIRA MPs destroyed the Speaker’s records, documents, furniture, and threw chillie-water on opposition members. Though the Speaker later entered escorted by the police, the government MPs pushed them back and threw various objects and chillie-water, at them. The police too were attacked. The speaker was not allowed to take his chair. Standing, he took a quick voice vote and left immediately amid loud jeering, swearing and flying objects. Shocking and sickening. Now we know what the Rascal Sira meant when he made allusions to the likelihood of violence in the Parliament. Sira should be impeached and thrown into jail at the earliest opportunity for destroying democracy. Mahinda’s Pohottu MPs behaved like an underworld criminal gang. Mafia murderer Mahinda and his thugs are today public enemy No.1. They should be brought to justice without further delay. Otherwise we’d be failing in our duty towards the country and the future of our children.
/
Jo / November 16, 2018
Yes, now the whole world knows how the current Sri Lankan government defines democracy: throwing chairs and chillie water at political opponents and the police.
What the world cannot understand is, why were these hooligans not removed from parliament??
This country has become far too violent to attract tourists. And it his become far too unstable and imponderable to be attractive for economic relations. The president and MR have done a good job to damage not only democracy but also the economy. Now, who wants to bring back law and order and stability to the country, if not even parliament can be handled? You are right, if you fear for your children.

Yesterday I watched on BBC World, the Parliamentary proceedings in Westminster, UK. of what some of us like to call our former Colonial masters. They were debating Brexit. Whilst strong feelings were expressed on either side, both sides respected the speakers authority. There was was dignity within the House. Having watched the disgusting fiasco in our Parliament today I’m nothing but ashamed. We still have so much to learn and need to stop this hooliganism once and for all. Nothing has been learned from years of civil war and the whole behavior of the parliamentarians is beyond appalling. They behaved like hooligans and thugs. God help Sri Lanka.
/
Chitra / November 16, 2018
This is typical banana republic behavior, and unfortunately our parliament is full of uneducated thugs, and political goons, who do not know dignity, have no self respect, and resort to violence and threats, very easily. Perhaps some school kid should explain to them that the parliament is a sacred place, where one conducts themselves with decency, dignity, and make their constituents, proud.
How can we as a nation expect other nations to respect, and take us seriously, when our thuggish parliament members behave this way?
/

It must be mandatory for our future MPs to wear tie & coat and be conversant in English. When our MPs stand up in parliament in their white vavula suits it looks like the rows of clotheslines of dhobyhouses of olden days. This does not mean they will behave well. But eventually it will work out like in the olden days when people like NM Colvin Pieter Dudley, none of whom wore the vavula suit, adorned the parliament.

Legislators go to Parliament to enact laws for the benefit of the country. It is common that the legislators in Sri Lanka always maintain that Sri Lanka is a Buddhist country. However, here is a situation where a legislator is seen with a knife threatening the rivals, some throwing chilli powder liquid, and protesting and blocking the proceedings like uncivilized people, etc. After doing all these, they will carry the Pinnacle in public amidst the chanting of ‘Buddham Saranam Gachchami, Dhammam Saranam Gachchami, Sangam Saranam gachchami’. Lord Buddha thought that Sri Lanka is the best place to practice Buddhism, but now he is weeping. Had President Maithiripala Sirisena and Mahinda Rajapakse behaved properly without a sabotage, Sri Lanka would not have lost its dignity.

While blaming the politicians for their disgusting behavior in the Parliament, people should condemn the behavior of foreign Diplomats who were in the gallery clapping when the Speaker announced that the No Confidence Motion against PM Rajapakse passed by voice vote. By so doing they are interfering internal affairs of their host country and openly violating the Diplomatic Protocol. This dirty behavior of the Diplomuts of the Western countries clearly proved their interference and involvement in this conspiracy. These guys do not care what happens to this country or people. Parliamentary proceedings (for example to name a few – Taiwan, Israel, India) are often disrupted when contentious issues come up. In SL this has happened before and is happening now.
Wimal will say that the chillie water incidents were self-inflicted. The Arundika Fernando, who forcibly occupied the Speaker’s chair, is in ethanol business and remember he claimed in parliament that he went to Paris, he saw, he met with and he dined with Prageeth!
