No-Confidence Motion: Ranil Secures Party Backing

Amidst whispers of UNP parliamentarians supporting the no-confidence motion against him brought by the Joint Opposition, Prime Minisiter and leader of the UNP Ranil Wickremesinghe scored a quiet victory when the party’s Working Committee passed a resolution today to defeat the said motion.

This support comes in the wake of several moves by President Maithripala Sirisena to humiliate Wickremesinghe ahead of the debate scheduled for April 7, 2018. The President relieved Wickremesinghe of oversight responsibilities with respect to the Central Bank, handing the institution over to Minister of Finance Mangala Samaraweera.

I am neither UNPer nor SLFPr. But I would support RW than to any other leaders today for one single reason – which is he is a decent person whoever whatever being said and done against him.
The fact is entire structures in this country is captured by corruption and abusive nature.
There we cant bring magics turning it to a clean society within shorter period of time.
Whatever said and done about bank SCAM, which is made above any other crimes perpetrated in this country sofar, but there are higher crimes that MEDIA men intentionally keep away from reaching to THE AVERAGE MINDSET.
What we have been facing today is one group of vicious politicians against the other. None of todays leaders are HONEST.
      Nor is JVP honest.
So the ground reality is whether or not to stand against higher corruptoin by supporting the less corrupted.
Need of the hour – THOSE PARRORTS THAT HAVE BEEN TRAINED TO ATTACK ONE SINGLE POLITICIAN TO BE BANNED.
iF THE KIND OF NATURE HAS BEEN THE CASE IN UK, THEY WOULD SETTLE IT BY EVERY MEANS.
SO WHY NOT WE DO THE SAME ?
Executive powers of current presidnt should be able to stand against SIRASA or an yother biased promoters VEHIMENTLY.
We must not allow blatant liars to control this nation this way.
They protect higher criminals, while only continue with attacks on RW.

I have never made any direct comment about Ranil’s leadership or the NCM. I think it is time I voice my opinion in few words.
I don’t give a hoot if UNP lives or perishes or whether Ranil secures his position as the Leader of the UNP or not.
But if Ranil’s removal paves the way for Gotabhaya or Basil to come back, then I want Ranil to stay, purely for “selfish reasons for a better future for my country” after 2020.

The same way those who voted Maithree and Ranil are disappointed, those who voted UPFA are also disappointed. We supported Mahinda/JO to stand by the country in the Parliament. But they did everything else other than that. Those who supported Mahinda in 2015 never wanted Basil, Gotabhaya or other hooligans back. But Mahinda/JO betrayed and abused people’s loyalty by bringing them to the forefront. I dare say people don’t want Gotabhaya or Basil. They support them as there is a view among people that, it is the only way to bring back Mahinda as he can’t contest for Presidency.
      .
We wanted to chase not only Ranil but Maithree too, since 2015. I told Wimal we should demand midterm elections in 2018. I didn’t mean LG elections. I meant the general election. We could have done that if Mahinda/JO didn’t derail our efforts by bringing Basil. He blocked the path for his own future aspirations. Then I withdrew my support to them.
      .
This message is for all political parties EXCEPT SLPP. Let Ranil stay until 2020 as the UNP Leader. President can’t remove the PM. So there is no question about that.
Let’s respect democracy and right of the people to elect a President of their choice in 2019/2020. If Maithree wants to contest, so be it. If Ranil/another UNPer wants to contest, so be it. Wimal, Dinesh, Champika, Ven. Gnanasara Thero, Mahasona, anybody can also contest. I am fielding someone from the general public too. We need to introduce a new political culture to our country. We are not going back to dirty tricks, cheap shots, bribes, blackmailing or bargaining politics. This turmoil and uncertainty should put to rest. Let’s promote clean, civilized politics to elect a straightforward sincere leader. Sri Lanka deserves the best!

You have a negative mentality. People will choose the right man at the election. There is nothing to worry.
I can see that my words have offended your weak mind. My words are meant to attract strong minds.

As far as I can remember until the end of last year I thought you were actually burning the candle for The Jarapassas.
Honestly people’s views can change for the betterment of our country. That’s a good sign.
I have been an ardent supporter of Patriots and Patriotic movements.

Has it taken 70 years to realise or is it the ” Freedom of Speech” which gave us the opportunity to EXPOSE THE CROOKS??
Thanks to Sirisena & Co for that.
Think about it ! Have we been real” Modayas ” all these years, or played Silli as the the saying goes, “IGNORANCE IS BLISS””

@ Champa. Good speech. So you are a patriot, and we are on the same page. But where are you going find this clean politician that has mass appeal in Sri Lanka, as well as the strength of character and decisiveness. MS came to where he is today because he nearly came to your specification but he had been unable to use his executive powers to clean up the system, and see what he is today ruined by his own running mate and every other rogue siting in the parliament. I applaud your intentions, but I am so despondent that we would not find your person with leadership qualities in present day Sri Lanka. BTW who are you fielding, have you got such powers? Anyway, why are you fielding and whose funds you are using for it? Why are you not out there at the lead? We are just curious to know before backing unknowns or just dreaming for a better day.

Why do I need funds to field someone? Sri Lanka’s affluent corrupt politicians have planted a myth in the society that nobody can contest at an election, especially Presidential, without the financial support of media tycoons, multinational companies, NGOO, INGOO, drug dealers, terrorists, pharmaceutical companies, alcohol and tobacco companies and other corporations. This is to discourage ordinary citizens entering into politics. Their purpose is to keep the main political race only within a selected crowd and well-established political families. On the other hand, our politicians who are funded by the above list become in hock to them once they are elected.
I want to dispel this myth and make the path open for ordinary citizens too without being under obligation to anybody.
No. I haven’t find someone yet. Politics is not in my blood but I have fighting spirit in my blood. I definitely canvass for the man I field from the general public. But it is not my last trump card.

Another attempt to divert the attenstion from real issue? The sentiment of most Sri Lankans who believe in the rule of law and democracy is that they should get their land back from the Paranghis and Karapoththas who are still occupying these lands. That has nothing to do with whether Ranil or Gotabhaya is the PM, unless we can bring back Hector and Sirimavo.

Nope. Things are now totally different from 2015. Like everything else, there should be evolution in one’s political thinking too. Learn to think rationally. You should be able to quickly analyse the situation. We are politically homeless. Not only us, the majority population is politically homeless. We don’t know what the future holds for the country. I can raise my both hands to remove Ranil. But who will come after him? Do you know? People are still not ready for a change though they are fed up with present politics of Sri Lanka. Haste makes waste. There is no need to exchange ginger for chili. We all know what happened to our forefathers who did that.

Ranil is only one. We can handle him until 2020. His elimination could lead undesirables to come to the Parliament. I don’t mind using Ranil to stop that.
              .
Ranil has already done the damage to the country with the help of Mahinda/JO who acted daytime Miguel nighttime Daniel. If they have stood against Ranil in the Parliament as per the mandate received by them in August 2015, things could have been different. If Ranil has done any damage, JO is also a part and parcel of it, not to mention the 19th Amendment passed by same MPP of UPFA (160 or so seats) with 9/10 majority for Ranil. Mahinda didn’t have the backbone to cast his vote against OMP and the ICPPED for our war heroes although it is still their sacrifice which keeps his popularity intact even today.
Not only Ranil/UNP, people should reject the entire Parliament including JO, SLFP (M faction) & JVP.

      Losers unite: keep-on dreaming.

“The no-confidence motion against PM Ranil Wickremesinghe would succeed as President Sirisena was backing it, former President Rajapaksa said.”

Ranil is not going anywhere at least until this term ends. My3 and the corrupt Rajapaksa clan saw that the threat was real when Ranil proposed SF as law and order minister.

Ranil can beat the NCM but it should not end there, he should stream line the govt and go public with the sabotage of My3 and his cronies to protect criminals of the last govt. So people will have a better understanding when they go the ballot the next time.

SO, until that he is waiting. all other things are just propaganda news to mislead the voters.

There are many words to describe Sirisena but the best word is ‘MATTA’. I say this because he wants to pull the rug from under the feet of his best ally and undermine him while bending over backward to suck up to his mortal enemies, whom he is unable to see for what they are!

Champa: Last paragraph of your comment starting from:. “But if Ranil’s removal…. paves the way for Gotabhaya or Basil to come back…….” Interesting and thought provoking. In my opinion, Ranil’s presence and the way he started functioning from day one of becoming (meaning “Appointed”) PM, really paved the way for not only Gotabhaya and Basil; but also for a “Band” of other thieves to SURVIVE and GO ABOUT FREE resulting in the Local Election results of 10 February 2018. Now their next “MOVE” is more subtle than even the expectations of Ranil & Co. of those thieves to be grateful. They now want to oust him(PM) and get into power and SET FREE all the THIEVES in their camp. So as far as your expectations for “FUTURE” are concerned, either way of Ranil being in power or not is not going to help the country.. Probably, you have heard “Proof of the pudding is in the eating”. Haven’t we EATEN the “PUDDING” already? This “Pudding” must be “Thrown Away”, because it is stale and unfit for any healthy living. If you need to expect a “better future” there needs to be a CHANGE and that should come with a “Common Sense Revolution” by the people.

Agree. Who is the alternative? Do you have somebody in mind?
Ranil should go. There is no question. But the time is not opportune. If there is an alternative the majority can agree, then there is no issue. Everyone is waiting for somebody. Therefore, the change should occur in 2019/2020, not now. Many people I believe will throw their hats in the ring. I have a feeling that someone insecure is trying hard to make the change now.

First and second generation leaders of the SLFP/JO/SLPP are all from the same family. Future SLFP-Gotabhaya, JO-Mahinda, SLPP-Basil. Not bad.
Mahinda, Gotabhaya, Basil, Namal already ruled the country for 10 years! I am sure that is more than enough for one family. They should agree to pass the baton for someone else.
Even without their consent, it is time Sri Lanka elects a totally new leader in 2019/2020 who has his own vision.

First Ranil should clean himself before cleaning others. The damage to CBSL and effects of bond scam are permanent.

All Ranil’s bbf’s are in the Working Committee (like Rosie who wants to build an ultra-post-modernistic capital city surpassing even S’pore and KL, at the expense of the rest of the country of course). ..so we’ll wait for the parliamentary debate.

BS. Rosie should learn how to keep the city clean first. they all want constructions because that is where money is. Her explanation for the dirty city is ” ane oka ohoma thiyanda ane, OKA, Ayith kilituwena”.

Membership of the UNP Working Committtee originally constituted an equal balance of persons nominated by the Party leader, and the rest persons elected by the membership. Soon after Ranil was elected asLeader he changed the rules to enable a majority of the Working Committee to consist of persons nominated by the leader. That piece of chicanery was adopted by the party which thus ensured that Ranil will never be outvoted in th Working Ommittee. Itensured therefore that no one else, however popular within the party can oust Ranil, as the party leader is chosen by the WC. Ranil will therefore be party leader for life.It is no surprise that the WC has voted to vote against the NFM as the majority of the WC are stooges of Ranil.

The nation need a strong willed, unbiased, strict leader to take over and lead the country.
The problem is ” Do we have any one in active politics with that kind of quality?”
We need a leader who has discipline, honesty, sincerity and love for the nation and people… all the people.
We want a true leader who will treat every one as citizen of the country without any discrimination or prejudice. It’s not easy to find some one with these important but essential qualities among our already brainwashed narrow minded citizens of today. It’s not their fault but all are political blunders.
Most of the so called leaders only divided the people and not united them with their selfish political agendas.
All the new legislation shrewdly enacted and enforced against the minorities brought disasters one after the other and kept communities away from each other, promoting rivalry, jealousy and distrust, paving the way for riots (politically organized) and unwanted calamity, death and destruction.
The communities lived in virtual peace are now suspicious of each other and getting used by various political forces.
We have to educate people in the proper way without sticking to ‘Swabhasha’ medium and spoiling their future. Studying in Sinhala or Tamil medium will not make any one face the changes happening in today’s modern world. Main medium of education should be English with Sinhala and Tamil also taught.
Most of the higher education needs fluency in English language and English is the most popular language in the world. All the advanced technologies are available in English and we all know that this language is vital for people to become successful in life.
Students in colleges and universities could easily converse and get to know each other by using English and get rid of the “frog in the well” mentality. The world is moving fast and improving with this common and useful language. Our children should not be left out getting the full benefit of knowing this important global language.

‘Yahapalana’ Government came to power promising to eliminate corruption. But now the PM is involved with one of the biggest corruption scandal country experienced. The NCM is bringing charges against PM’s role in Bond Scam. Those who want to ‘Unclean’ Mr.Clean can come out with all kinds of BS stories but the people of the country know the truth. The MPs who will vote against the NCM will be branded as traitors who wanted to protect a thief. Those who vote against the NCM are digging their own graves.

Eagle, please sense it.. whoever whatever being said and done, do you ever think, any group of politicians could make magics in terms of tangible changes in rampant corruption levels in the country.
People in general would agree with corruption promoters than with those who would stand against it. I am no tliving in the loss island, but I keep reading this blog in order to pick up some information.
But i happened to pay a visit to the country lately there, I got to know by mself, no matter what level of education you own, people in general would not care about anything but their selfish agendas. They dont question twice but go for support anyone tthat would distribute things to them.
Yahapalanaya is nothing else, that average to feel free to express their thoughts as is the case today. Is that no tthe case in today s enviroment ?
I am living in Europe, but I dont think that any average people in Europe enjoy that much of freedom in the line of expressions as you guys are offered today.
Meaning, even if any low level statements is in the air in the country today – some vicious parrots trained by some TV channels seem to abuse the situation.
Sirasa for example focuses only on RW but nothing else. They shoujld better focus on people s issues than being biased to their producers.
I think FREED media should be subjected to some sort of censor in this devleoping country.
Most would like Thugs AND uneducated buggers as their leaders than decent personalities. Why ? Please ask you yourself why the majority of people go after rascals … or they dont care any decent values.

Dr Ranil is the best weapon which the JO has to demolish the UNP at the next Election.
And pave the way for Gotabaya to become the next Exec President.
And save the country from the Financial Pirhanas, Pathlaya, LTTE Diaspora and the West.
And protect the jobs of the great majority Sinhala people from the Indians who are readying themselves to invade Srilanka under Dr Ranil’s ETCA..

Go and eat that Punnak after Felicitating the Yellow Robed Crooks who have no conscience nor decency to refuse other than accepting the gold and silver looted from the state and people.
On Lord Buddha’s 10 Precepts : Refrain from accepting and holding money , gold or silver.
Let alone accepting LOOTED WEALTH FROM THE STATE NOR THE LOOT FROM THE POOR.
Conscience and the Religion are not the same for some.

Do you think Rajapaksa clan will reject ETCA? When Modi came last Vesak, Mahinda and Gorabhaya bent on their keens to get an appointment with Modi and crawled all the way to his feet in the late night to see him. For the last 3 years, Mahinda and Gotabhaya changed their stances many times on India while having secret deals with them. Basil is more Indian than Sri Lankan. ETCA is already in effect in installments. In his budget Mangala gave permission for foreign companies to hire their own countrymen. I don’t remember Rajapaksas saying a word against it.

“And pave the way for Gotabaya to become the next Exec President. And save the country from the Financial Pirhanas, Pathlaya, LTTE Diaspora and the West.”

A friend of mine very often says almost like reciting a religious stanza ” Oh God Help me from Myself. I can take care of my enemies”.

First you need to save yourself from yourself if you really want to save the country.

Gota needs to save himself from himself before taking care of the country.
Then Gota needs to protect the country from himself and his fellow Sinhala/Buddhist fascists.

Now I understand why my friend recite his own stanza.

What ever it is forget voting to UNP. The whole party and mostly their prominenet people are corrupt thieves. One news report says action on PENTHOUSE RAVI, RAVI THE LIAR, GALLE ON RAVI are postponed. People have to need how important their vote is. when the elelction comes, do not vote UNP. Stay silent until that and let them dance s they pleased.

I am with you on your thoughts; If Premier Ranil leaves the political stage, at this stage, there would be a new breed of politicians of the calibre of S.B.Dissanayake to get on stage!

What can Ranil Wickremasinghe do with a spineless President who is unable to take a firm decision on vital issues. Good governance will be meaningful if Ranil Wickremasinghe is a given a free hand and I think the people feel Ranil Wickremasinghe is the correct person. If the no-confidence motion is defeated, the country is bound to have a booming economy in the country. The disappointed and frustrated MPs both in the SLFP and UPFA are waiting for an opportunity to plunge the country in deep crisis by all means. The average citizens in all communities should re-consider of supporting the no-confidence motion. Communal harmony and economic development is assured if the no-confidence motion against Ranil Wickremasinghe is defeated. The opportunities are anxiously waiting to see that communities are split, so that they can plunder the wealth of the country. Ranil Wickremasinghe is a person who can rectify all blunders made by these opposition MPs and can unite the people. This is a fact.

Ayathurei Rasingham: Definitely, Ranil, CBK, Mangala and now Rajitha Senarathne from Orumiththa govt look after well with all the freebies and social welfare. That is what you want more. Right now the problem is UNP consitution is AUTOCRATIC and by Ranil. So, the MPs are scared to take a decision as they will be history if they do it,. I think we know where it is heading. Some Tamils were corrupt and fired from Coperative societies from SLFP are now disgusted with Maithri and cheer for Ranil. Ask Rishad Bathiuddin what went wrong.

Lets see who is proposing and supporting the NCM. Its SLPP and some of SLFPers. Who are those in SLPP, they are mostly flip floppers, crooks, murderers and drug dealers. Who are the SLFPers who are supporting this motion, its those who were kicked out of the Parliament by the voters, who have no voter base and those who came to the Parliament through “Pinata Seat”. If the NCM passes then we all know what sort of people are going to govern the country – TRAITORS, BACK STABBERS, DRUG KINGPINS, RAPISTS, AND MURDERERS.
