President Maithripala Sirisena is lying about the song released on the occasion of the first anniversary of him assuming office seeking to promote himself as some kind of modern-day reincarnation of King Parakramabahu the Great, Colombo Telegraph can reveal today.
Sirisena had checked the script and listened to the song prior to its broadcast. The song was broadcast across all state-run broadcasters. In the face of growing public criticism the video of President Sirisena’s Official Song for 2016, has been removed from You Tube without any reason being offered.
Issuing a statement today President’s Secretary P.B. Abeykoon said “The song has been played by some social networking websites without the permission of the President as well as the Presidential Secretariat”
But the pictures posted by its producer Dr. Arosha Fernando, proved that it was broadcast via state-run ITN.
The producer of the song, senior consultant at Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, Arosha Fernando has now deleted all pictures from his Facebook page. But Colombo Telegraph had managed to secure copies prior to its deletion.
President’s Secretary P.B. Abeykoon today said that there was no official song released by the President’s Secretariat or other responsible entities to mark the one year anniversary of democratic governance under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena.
But Arosha Fernando’s posts say the song is official.
“President Sirisena listened and approved the song on December 11, 2015 and the producer had posted a picture on his Facebook page” sources closed to President’s Secretariat told Colombo Telegraph. After the approval Fernando and his crew went to Polonnaruwa on January 2nd, 2016 for the shooting of the visuals.

Ok so here is the thing.
Just because the president is seen in a photograph with the producers (who are also the heads of a department under him) and the song is made by someone known by him, it doesnt at all mean it was done officially.
If CT has any proof that this song was officially sanctioned by the President, PMD or Presidential Secretariat, show it rather than putting up a few pictures of the two together and citing an anonymous source.
This is nothing more than just gossip news and its a disgrace!

President Sirisena brought us hope when people of SL elected him in place of Rajapakse. However, since he becoming the President all his actions have been almost similar to that of Rajapakse. He appointed those who lost their seats in UPFA back under the “Pinata Seat” system. The “Horu” he promised to catch have not been caught and most of them are now in his cabinet. His Cabinet is not 30 but many more than 30, bigger than Rajapakse cabinet. He appoints political persons for diplomatic positions. He does not know if he is a SLFP candidate, or UPFA candidate or UNP candidate or an “achcharu” candidate. SL is going down the tube, we all thought he is going to change the country. I personally thought he had the guts and backbone to go against Rajapakse, but now I have changed my view that he does not have the guts nor the backbone to go against the “Horas”. Do we need a President like him?
