Police today claimed investigations have revealed the cuts on Watareka Vijitha thera – a monk, who was highly critical of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), are self-inflicted.

Addressing media at a press conference today, Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana had stated that investigations led by the Colombo Crimes Division have revealed this fact and it has been confirmed by the confessions of the monk himself.
He said the contradictions in the statements made to the investigation team by the monk had raised suspicions and careful analyses of the monk’s mobile phone records and CCTV footage had revealed his claims did not add-up.
SSP Rohana went on to state thereafter, the Vijitha thera had confessed to inflicting the wounds using a keys and blades. “Moreover, the JMO reports too have confirmed the wounds are self-inflicted.”
The Spokesman had also stated that the probe has disclose that that Vijitha thera had been dropped off in Panadura by a relative and that it was not a lorry, as stated by the monk during his initial statement to the Police upon being discovered in Bandaragama with his arms and legs tied by his robe.
The Police had furthermore stated that legal action will be taken against Vijitha thera for making false complaints.

There should be a greater difference between “tranditional buddhist srilankens” and ” so called sinhalese buddhists of today”. During 3 decades ago, we the buddhists lived in the country peacefully. As one who grew up in south of srilanka, I never felt like that hatred of todays kind were with the hamuduruwo. We respected them a lot – whereever we saw the buddhists. We also have them as teachers in our schools to teach buddhism appart from the fact they held sunday daham school sessions. Each and every viillage as I remember had a small temple and the buddhist monks were held as if their role in the society to help any one visting them with analysing problems. THAT WAS THE REASON society to that time to be that polite to my understanding. WE HAD A GREATER RESPECTED TOWARDS the elders… today all these have gone down. Today, having met with a good friend of mine, we discussed it at lenghth, she also shared me that the youth in the country has no such respect and dignity towards anyone. Many of them dont even speak to their grand parents. This is common to my family cirlces too.
Btw,alone the fact that The tamil problems of the island is not related to the religions either. So, those who today have been making every efforts to make new forms of conclicts based onteh religions should be closely studied…

This is what we have been telling for a long long time. at least now we should believe what our Police says. Our IGP still searching provisions in the Law to arrest BBS(Pvt)Ltd Chairman, Gandasara for hate speach and still couldn’t find the relevant paragraph. In our system Police will act according to the book and even President cannot do anything without consulting Parliament first though he has executive powers. Recently he said it is up to the Parliament members to decide weather we should allow Madam Pillay’s group to come to Sri Lanka or not. Actually Hon. President was helpless as he cannot overrule Parliament decision as they are supreme. Can anybody point out another world leader who is straight forward like our Leader. It seems like the police are digging themselves further into a hole. They cannot be trusted to tell the truth anymore – similar to the rogue politicians, Gnanasara BBS monks, Dilantha et all. This entire charade is like a circus of clowns.
