Police Spox Says MR Lied Over His Home Search

Police Spokesman today implied that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa lied about his home being searched, when he rejected claims of MR’s home being searched by the Police.

Ajith Rohana

Dismissing claims made by MR about his home in Tangalle being searched, SSP Ajith Rohana said that it was not his house located in Tangalle but the Carlton estate and hall in Weeraketiya that was searched in response to a tip-off received by the DIG in charge of the area, about a sea-plane and a Lamborghini held in the premises.

“The claims that are being made about the IGP’s involvement in this search is a blatant lie,” he added.

This is the very same Police spokeperson who were under political influence during the last regime – in power until 8th January. Then opposition-today rulers called him being biased to Rajapakshes.

Specially, JVP attacked the Police SPoksperson naming him as “PETHTHAPPU”.

But this news proves that the very same spokesman confirms about the ground reality of the search which former President expressed to the press day before yesterday. It was a blatant lie what former Prez uttered there.

May be MR et al are making every effort to agitate his supporters since all the current investigations turning no good for him, his family, his siblings, offsprings and everyone had been merrymaking with him.

It is simply this Man MR is no different to Wimal Buruwanse who has hidden his tail behind these days. There is no body in the country who has publicly attacked Maithreepala Sirisena, Ranil, CBK and others as Wimal and SB. Today SB behaves as if he has nothing to say. The newly elected powerful allies made shut them by achieving their victory. I really dont think that MS attacked anyone if he was not aware of the truths of the matter well. He knew perfectly the gravity of the massive corruption being carried out by MR, GR, BR et al. People of this country will see it soon, if not Maithripala backed back his coalition who else saved this nation being looted by Rajapakshes.

I heard that Wimal Buruwas has to face a case soon.
His wife is said to have used a forged passport. There how the filthy mouth will control over his cespit is more than questionable. WB is a curse for entire srilanken communities. Just because he is allowed to drol over his mouth, he abused entire nation. All others that sat next him and encouarged him were also equally sick. The infected cultre – which is the code of conduct in the country today are a consequence of the filthy exchanges used by WImal, SB, Mervin et al rather than anyone else. These were like fertilizers to eroding young generations. Consequence is vocabullary that I never heard before – for example Babakukung…. Mala Paninawa and the like – I mean focusing on my childhood days 4 years back in the country. We maintained a greater respect. We stood as we saw elderly people, buddhists passing next to us. TOday, having visited the country lately, I thought my god the people have taken only the worst of the worst – my nephews and nieces did not even talk to their parents and grand parents – they only enjoyed with their IT gadgets. This is not even to the levels that european teenagers are addicted. Face book is infected to lanken cultre than to Switzerald, Germany, France or other neigbouring countries. It is becuase of the publicity given lanken media for that than to anything else. Today, there are young ones that get easily caught by killing conspiracies in sl through FB and social media – lacking no adequate in that areas.

Every man in the government will do anything to change their shirts to support the new government, no one in the government is called loyalty (except Wimal W. and the 57 members in foreign diplomatic) to Rajapaksas.

This man has switched sides because he simply wants to protect his job If this man was loyalty to Rajapaksas, in the next day he would be fired.

The new government took strong efforts to call the friends/families of Rajapaksa who served as Ambassador or diplomatic will be returned home (total of 57 members are close association of MR).

People s attention on Peththappu has not been damaged significantly after the govt is elected. May be few occasions he acted with some sorta of partiality to the former MR regime. Anyway, his is a lession to many. Hope this can help other authorities too to adjust and leave a lession towards betterment of the general public. Else, as being revealed, it is like searching for Mustard – if wanting to find uncorrpted officials. The influence of MR regime has metastasized over the years as the average would not see the gravity of the destrcution.

What kind of statement is this? Which politician of the new government ill-advised this Pettappu to say this? Only thing the readers want to know is whether the Police raided the Carlton Estate in Weeraketiya and whether it belongs to the Rajapakses. If the answer is affirmative, and if the Police found nothing (no lambroghinis, no helicopters, no horses imported from Buckingham Palace), the Pettappu has nothing much to say but to apologize to the ex-president on behalf of the New Yahapalana Government for the inconvenience caused and promise the ex-president that it would not be repeated. Case close!

In a previous article in CT where MR is pontificating on political ethics,he says the following

“Generations in my family have engaged in politics but it is for the first time that my house was searched yesterday.”

and now you say “whether the Police raided the Carlton Estate in Weeraketiya and whether it belongs to the Rajapakses.”

don’t you understand the difference between a property owned by you and your house.Since the ex president as usual twists it for his convenience what is wrong with the police spokesman clarifying?

However i also believe that he deserves an apology for courtesy’s sake because though the police was doing their duty their so called tip off was a f— off.Their should be a investigation into that, because police should not be used to harass others unnecessarily.

There is a big difference between searching a property and searching your house. The home is your castle where you live and it is very embarrassing to you when it is searched and MR as usual is trying to get some political mileage out of it by misrepresenting it.

The story has much more detail than the head line , there were so many unanswered questions ,

        1) Did the police get a green light from IGP to ahead with th search operation ? if not why ?

        2) who is in charge (DIG) of that area ? is he a loyal supporter of the former President ?

3)Was there a tip off just before the raid ?

Police department needs a complete overhaul.

srilal, you may be right.I forgot that this government has been in power only for 2 weeks while the previous one was in power (and boy they sure knew how to use it to corrupt and politicize all the institutions)for 10 years. The clean up of these institutions will take some time but at least whenever some mud is thrown it should be as you rightly pointed investigated and culprits identified.

I have a feeling it is your third point that happened. This type of things were happening even in developed countries until they overhauled the system completely even bringing police chiefs from abroad on contracts.Even among the top brass there will be moles, let alone the rank and file which may be infected badly.

When he has to go0 somewhere the road would be blocked for 2-4 hours.. Knowing MR and his lies, benefit of the doubt should be given to the Police. He may have been a Pethaappu UNDER MR coz his higher up had to BOW and kiss the feet of MR and Gota…just so they have a job to take a pay check home.. Come the Police Commission, Public Service Commission and other commissions.. MR may lie from all ends.. not just his mouth.

Just under a year ago , UNP said the following:
” SSP Rohana appears to have forgotten that he is the Police Spokesman and not the spokesman for the Sri Lanka Freedom Party,”

    https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/resign-now-unp-tells-police-spokesman/

SSP Ajith Rohana also claimed that the murder of Financial matters journalist Mel Gunasekera had nothing to do with her being a journalist

” However the Colombo Telegraph highlighted in a story yesterday (2) that Gunasekera was the third business journalist to be targeted in what the police have repeatedly referred to as burglaries.”

    https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/suspect-in-mels-murder-held-for-48-hours-questions-persist-about-journalists-killing/

This SSP Rohana has been a Rajapaksa water carrier , and lord knows all the nefarious dealings he undertook. Now he has switched sides.

    SSP Rohana should be investigated.

Please spare the Police Spokesman. He has a job and livelihood to protect. He like many honourable and non-partisan public servants are pulled hither, thither and yon by the dispensation in power in a once splendid and impartial governance system the Rajapakse family and their many goons politicised and conspired to destroy.

The former President complains to the country and the world, the sanctity of his home was destroyed. The man has earned a reputation to mislead, slander and obfuscate. They have none but themselves to blame they are not treated seriously anymore.

It will take quite a while do re-build the structures of the judicial process, the security apparatus, its safety valves and many aspects of the country the Rajapakse clan, by design, destroyed to ensure the process is there only to serve the interest and, more importantly, the coffers of his immediate Family not only for the present but for many decades in the future. On Jan 08, the country from the four corners of the Island signalled to the Rajapakses this is unacceptable.

I think we have to be fair by everyone. Whatever be the independence of the Commissions, public servants are required to be careful. In that process they cannot afford to offend the powers that may be and that is why they appear to be partial to those in power.

All what the police media spokesman said was the house that was searched is in Weeraketiya and not in Tangalle. It is the frill of reporting to say that MR or any other politician lied. It is perfectly within police powers to search a premises with a search warrant on tip-offs received by public. The only issue, morally is that it should not appear that it is due to political vendatta. Unfortunately there is no way to filter or dismiss tip-offs when they are pretty serious. Therefore investigations have to be made on every tip-off, which in fact can be made mischevously.

During the previous MaRa regime, he had to go along with them. otherwise, he would be missing now or with a jumper short.

Now, since the police has got the fullest authority with this Govt. for all investigations. Lets take his word for now. Cannot say if he will betray his uniform and his country at this stage.

    Hope for the best.

Hey guys, I have also the same feeling but Ajitha Rohana is competent. As I got to know from teh ruling people today – if they have to appoint new men to almost each and every previous posts – we should better import them from an another country… to that manner each everyone is connected with high profile corruptoin had been been carried out by MR regime.

I don’t see any reason why anyone should quarrel with the Police spokesman over the clarification he made. His past sins real or perceived as the Police spokesman is a different issue. Besides, he may not be the author of the news script his briefing is based on, which, no doubt , is a collective effort. We have to remember that his job is to deliver for public consumption a finished product produced with the involvement of several people and approved by his superiors!

What nobody seems to know or what no one wants to admit is that “Carlton” is NOT the Rajapaksa’s “Mahagedera.”
It beongs to the Wickremesooriya family, the last of the older generation is still alive, though one of the surviving brothers, Dr. Roni, passed away recently
Mrs. Rajapaksa set up her Montessori in a part of Carlton and then, quietly, the Rajapaksas appropriated it, inclusive of making “Carlton”their brand name: rugby 7s tournament, sports channel etc. etc. It is no secret that while Saliya Wickremesooriya was a Mahinda stooge and a totally incompetent head of the Port who had to be sidelined, he has been brought back to supervise “oil and gas exploration” where Champika Ranawaka recently exposed a HUGE fraud that he was in the middle of!
“Carlton” has been “acquired” by Mahinda by dangling the carrot while keeping the stick available if that didn’t work! Typical Rajapaksa strategy, particularly effective with people like the Wickremesooriyas!

” Champika Ranawaka recently exposed a HUGE fraud “

Can you be more specific and detailed. If an actual fraud had been exposed it WOULD be in the hands of the police today. Is it ?

MR was in all probability tipped off about the search.Whatever he wanted to hide would have been shifted to a new location. The Police were on their way to arrest MR a couple of years ago long before he became President. On Ranils intervention that was called off!

Telling lies is nothing new for MR and his family including their cronies. All are aware how they misled the public on many matters relating to governance and public affairs.
The people are also aware how MR can act to deceive the public, eg, carrying children in election meetings, describing his children like saints, and many many such matters.
We are happy the Police spokesman brought this to the notice of the public.

    1

I have also heard that “Carlton” was the ancestral home of the Wickramasooriya family (Dr Kamalika Abeyratne’ s parents’ family). Apparently being staunch SlFP’ers it was gifted to be used by the party in Mrs B’s time. But now the Rajapakse’s have hijacked this place & they talk as if it is their ” Mahagedara “

This is what I have heard but would like to be clarified.

So anyone who actually knows the facts is welcome to share his/ her knowledge with all interested readers.

When SWRD crossed over to the opposition in 1952/1953 he turned round to see another UNP MP following him. That was the father of MR, D.Rajapakse. SWRD had to mortgage even his house to pay for the formation of his SLFP.The loyalty of Rajapakse[Snr] used to be rewarded with open cheques by the Bandaranaikes, on a regular basis. The question of a MAHAGEDERA for the Rajapakse family is very remote. All the siblings began life with small jobs.MR as a Library Asst: Chamal as a Policeman,Gota in the Army etc.Navin Dissanayke knows how Basil started!
So,this is a case of Rags to Riches story.10 years of the Executive Presidency in the hands of this family and now they seem to be having Mahagedera all over the world! This is what happens when SMALL PEOPLE FIND THEMSELVES IN BIG PLACES!

The truth regarding the above crossing over is related as told by late Anura Bandaranaike.

“As I said before my father was a member of the UNP and had no reason to change political parties. According to Anura Bandaranaike my father used to frequent the Liquor Bar at the House of Representatives. Many Parliamentarians used to drink at the Bar in Parliament and walk into Parliament drunk. (It was Mr. J R Jayawardena when he was elected to office in July 1977 that immediately gave orders to close the liquor bar in Parliament). Anyway, to come back to my story, on that day, 12th July 1951, my father who was in the Parliament’s Liquor Bar and had taken many drinks was not in his proper senses. In his intoxicated state, he had gone into the House and accidentally walked immediately behind Mr. S W R D Bandaranaike, who at that very moment was crossing the floor of the House and sat next to Mr. S W R D Bandaranaike. My official biography has quoted the following statement of Mr. S W R D Bandaranaike himself as to how my father D A Rajapakse crossed over from the UNP to the SLFP on that day. Mr. Bandaranaike has said:
‘On that day when I left UNP and crossed over to the SLFP I saw person walking behind me like a shadow. It was not a person who had previously promised to cross-over with me. This person was Mr.D A Rajapakse’.”

If there are any other versions let’s hear it.
