Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi has ordered the police to record a statement from former foreign minister G. L. Peiris over the discovery of a suicide jacket among other explosives recovered in Chavakachcheri on Wednesday.

Hettiarachchi told a news conference at the government information department today that even though the discovery was ‘routine’ and based on a tip off, it appeared that the former foreign minister had more information about the explosives, and hence an investigation will be launched to obtain more details from his over his claims that the explosives were to be sent to Wellawatte.
Addressing a news conference following the discovery of the haul of explosives which also included 12 kilos of C4 explosives and ammunition in a house, Peiris claimed that the explosives including the suicide jacket was to be sent to Wellawatte. “The people need to know the truth. The government must not hide the truth from the people,” he said.
The former Minister went on to highlight that the latest discovery was a threat to national security and therefore the government must first and foremost ensure national security is safeguarded.
According to the police the explosives were wrapped in a Sinhalese language newspaper which was published in 2007. Police believed that the explosives were hidden during the war.

Please look at the issue rather than looking the finger of the person who pointed out it.
Interrogating GL is not going to solve the mystery of the explosives. The government should do a sensible job rather than behaving like a set of comedians or clowns.
The government get your approach and attitudes corrected as soon a possible, unless the whole country is going to suffer.
I am doubtful whether the government hierarchy thinks that the general public is that much stupid to swallow the lies they utter to distract the public from the real issue.
What we need is a transparent and impartial investigation on this incident. The government´s behaviour fuels the spread of more rumours. The general public tends to believe that there is something serious that this government want to hide from them.
For sure, the behaviour of some of the ministers and in particularly of Mr Ranil Wikramasingha will bring the downfall of this government sooner than later.

That is not our problem – look is unique to someone. But regardless of appearence, he truly has the knoweldge to filter good from bad because he is proven academic. We understand why MR behaves so – prevaricating whenever he is questioned about any serious issues. There we know his background – well and we can compare him with those of Buruwanse. But the same is not applicable to GLP who is a learnt professor with higher achievements not forgetting OXFORD.

Shame on GL Pieris as a lawyer. If he knew the suicide jacket was to be sent to Wellawatta, such sensitive information should not be released at a press conference, but to the Police. Police could have apprehended the suspects.
GL Pieris and Tissa Witharana claiming to be educated people, have become the laughing stock.
They come on TV supporting MR. Any lie would be uttered to discredit the current Govt and support MR.
