President And Son Photoshopped Out Maithripala’s Facebook Page

In a throwback to the previous regime when the media team of President Mahinda Rajapaksa indulged in ‘creative’ photoshopping to show Queen Elizabeth II shaking hands with him, the managers of President Maithripala Sirisena’s Facebook page has ‘edited out’ both the President and his son Daham from a photograph taken at the UN General Assembly sessions.

Much furor was caused over Daham Sirisena‘s presence in the UN sessions with questions raised over his status.

The original photo was taken on Friday the 25th September 2015 and posted on Sirisena’s Facebook page on the same day at 9.59PM. The new, photoshopped version was uploaded today, approximately three days later.

In the photoshopped version even the name board of Sri Lanka has been shifted and placed between Mangala Samaraweera and Wijedasa Rajapakshe. The cleverly cropped and photshopped picture finds the rest of the delegates in the in their identical positions in both pictures.

“What was the official status of his son during this visit? “

Translating foreigners different English accents to Polonnaruwa Sinhala, so that his father could understand, as per his mother’s, Mr. Sirisena’s wife’s instructions. It is hard to understand, American, Chinese, Spanish, Indian and Russian English.

Can Mr. Sirisena rely exclusively on the translation and interpretation of the Matara Suttara Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera’s Interpretation and translation only?

        Amarasiri and Tree Horse,

One important question as its important to our NATION:

A very kind and nice high up of “Sri Lankan Airlines” stationed in New York, whose wife is having a small job in the UN , but shows as if she is like an Under Secretary, like Radhika C.(Wellala/high class Tamil) …with a greate reputation among SLs for her arrogance …from a very simple petty minded hamine/nona family circle in SL( nothing wrong as birth is an accident,) in whose house notorious Sajin had assaulted decent Dr Ambassador C Nonis of UK had a reputation as H&W suppliers of ” new unspoilt, kiri pani, Butter, Cheese et al” to Sri Lankan Politicians and dignitaries much against and without any knowledge of their spouses, had great time until recent times. Wherever that wife goes she does “NAYA ARINAWA” it seems and is very angry that the husband and his bros who do a “Freight Express Business” also do not pronounce English words too well. She also makes mistakes as our crowd at UN , K’jeewa and them and their family circle know. This Un ewmployee wife is jealous of K’s wife it seems.

Are they still in NY? If so, its timely to give their Tel NOs to Daham…considering that incident, when he was on holiday and where the father had to control the Police to protect the son.

      Kumari,

I agree with CT’s decision to let the public know of the incident and also to raise some discomfort for Mithri for indulging in such undue family perks, mixing it with official responsibilities.

However, this is a rather trivial issue, especially after our experience of the inglorious participation of plane-loads of spouse, princelings, siblings, in-laws, in-laws of in-laws, what have you in every little thamasha trips during the past regime. After all, in life, everything is relative!

What is critical is Journalistic judgment on the extent of coverage, on the emphasis and on the need for repeated revisits to the story – is the story of such national importance, or should the exposure be merely to warn and discourage such undue presidential liberties in the future. The coverage should not be targeted at wholesale embarrassment, way beyond what this trivial, isolated lapse warrants.

    Why are some readers becoming
    uncomfortable at these photos?

A leader elected with the pledges
    to abolish nepotism, corruption
and bribery is doing just that.

Even if he paid with his own money,
which is not the case, there is
a bigger mistake her. Sirisena is
using the full force of the authority
of the President to take his son and
introduce him to world leaders. Do
the other world leaders do the same
    thing?

It is pin adi Maru Sira’s who are equally
a bane to Sri Lanka as the pol adi corruption
resorted to by Rajapaksa and members of his
family including the pocket Dutugemunua Gotabaya.

Maithree, you have lost all the respect of those who thought you do what you preached. You are not as bad as Mahinda, but you have started following him. Take Ranil as an example. Few days ago he stopped Harin Fernando from going to USA on a private visit. When Harin asked for permission to go to USA on a private visit Ranil had asked Harin,”Can you get leave to go abroad soon after starting a new job. You have just started a new job as a Minister and you have to get on with that” Maithree is only interested in bringing back SLFP into power with all the crooks. He brought back all those rejected by the people and gave positions to all the crooks. Don’t trust Maithree anymore.

Yes… Gamarala is a cunning lair and we all were fooled by him… When this man talked about Gandhi , Mandela, I too though this guy had read many books and had strong ethical and moral values.. But this Gamarala is just another typical SB politician with 47 year experiences… very cunning one. MARA started taking his younger sons (Namal is MP) with him on official visits in later stage , but Gamarala started doing it in 8 months…

Photoshopped = altered – remember MR did to the Obama pics and the handshake with the Queen of England?
This picture is just cropped = reducing dimensions or cutting a piece out. Obviously the author doesn’t know the beaning to both of these terms. IMO your whole article worth cropping.

Some comments here seem to subscribe to the view that this is a minor transgression that need not be dwelled upon and can be overlooked. This is a risky attitude. Sri Lanka was pulled back from the brink on January 8th. Should we be silent now and let all the gains be reversed?

Oh, come on. Let’s first of all give the devil his due. I suppose President Sirisena should be given some credit for taking with him only a moderately sized delegation to the UN – 22 or so – as against the mega delegations that his predecessor MR took with him.

That said, we have every right to ask what on earth the President’s son was doing there with the delegation. For a man who came to power promising good governance, some of President Sirisena’s actions have been anything but consistent with good governance, they have been disgustingly ugly and as deplorably nepotistic as those of the previous President.

For my part, I have an even more basic question to ask. What on earth is President Sirisena himself doing at the UN? And what on earth were MR and others before him also doing there? My point simply is that I see no reason why the President of SL should go to the UN, in the first place. Does not SL have a permanent representative at the UN, who is maintained by the SL government in that position at some considerable expense? Now, one would imagine the reason why he has been appointed to that office and has been maintained at state expense is because he was seen as qualified to carry out the duties that go with that appointment. If that is the case, why do we need to send the President and his entourage to the UN? Is the permanent representative incapable of doing his job? Isn’t this a duplication of effort and an utter waste of money?

I realise that these visits enable the President to meet with other governments’ heads, on the sidelines of the UN meeting but I cannot for a moment imagine that those meetings are anything but short and insignificant and are just by the way.

Machiavelli, that master of statecraft, is said to have observed something on the lines that it is a mistake for princes to come together in person to consummate what their envoys have failed to achieve. The President’s trip to the UN is similarly unavailing. It is nothing more than another expensive tax payer funded junket.

One cannot help saying, ‘these buggers are all the same’.

Photoshop is a wrong term; it should be the term cropped.

By the way, I would blame Nehru as he started the trend by taking Indra Gandhi on his official trips!

Photoshop:Adobe software product for digital image editing and enhancement, photo retouching, and color management of graphic images. Photoshop includes such features as multiple undo, text editing with formatting control, and enhanced color management and controls. The program supports numerous Web and graphics file formats and runs on both the Windows and Power Macintosh platforms.

Photoshopping was the term we used in the continent late 89 if we needed to change the looks of an image taken with an imaging devise than the laboratory dark room.

He has been unable to do a proper job of editing and I would fail the guy.
Look at tie now smudged with My3 shirt and the filling with paintbrush than advance tools of colour replacement.

    You cannot be serious, ya’ll!
This lad is just acompaning his dad to work. What’s the bis fuss about? If not for the boy, Maithri’s wife would stand next to him, because it is a custom to do so at that very venue.
I wish you guys would have screamed “Nepotism!” as loud and promptly when the fallen King of It was still around.

President Sirisena who has a mediocre intelligence has at last got scared of criticism and has advised his foolish advisers to do some photo-shopping to fool the intelligent people. Seems he knew what he was doing is wrong from his face which looks really scared in the original photo.

Disgraceful behaviour – nepotism photoshopped out.

Sirisena is quite impervious to public sentiment just like every other politician in Sri Lanka has been. He is drunk with power at this time. People made a furore over his daughter running rough shod in Polonnuaruwa dragging along a retinue of hapless public servants. He did not give a damn about peoples sentiments then. And now he takes the brat Daham to the UN as an unappointed representative of the youth in Sri Lanka. Sirisena has also stacked his cabinet with known rogues of the previous government when there was no need to do that.

It has not taken too long for Yahapalanaya to metamorphose into Yakapalanaya.

MARA and his cronies are having the last laugh unfortunately.

Sirisena not only is impervious to public sentiment, he is extremely angry that he (being the executive President(King) of the country) is being criticized. Thus, he uses his executive powers to carryout whatever he wishes to do and send a clear message to the public that he is immune to criticism.

Is there a opposition party in Lankawe?

Why can Mangala speak out what is going in New York? Is the fund for all these games are appropriated by the UNP party’s national Government? Ranil is the head of it?

    Hold your Horses Folks…

Sira had nothing to do with Daham getting on the Band Waggon..

Mr Mangala Samaraweera . the UNP heavy and the sort of confidante and enforcer of the Hon PM Batalanda Ranil, invited young Sira to join him. ( as a delegate ??).

This is what Senior Sira himself told the media today..

Wonder whether the “Cousin” Madam had a hand in it too.

The way all these Yahapalana supporting Elite. Anglicans and even Tiger brigades are firing with both barrels at the Sira’s , Junior now has Buckley’s of getting their support at the next Election.

The Madam must be having the last laugh and a chuckle with the Son and the Daughter. as well…. .

If that’s the case, then Maithri had better watch out for “katta” fellows undermining his administration from the inside..

Was Mangala’s invitation a cunning mechanism to portray MS as being little better than MR ?
