Daham Sirisena Represents Sri Lanka At UN Youth-Led High Level Event

President Maithripala Sirisena’s son Daham Sirisena has yesterday (today in New York time) participated in the youth-led high level event at the UN Headquarters. The event focused on the Role of Youth in the Implementation and Monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to Sirisen’s Facebook; Young people, high-level member state representatives and civil society organisations, along with the President of the General Assembly and UN entities joined forces in New York to recognize the role youth have played in shaping the 2030 agenda for sustainable development and launch a call to action on youth leadership and participation in the implementation of the SDGs. The event aimed at sending out a clear and strong message about the importance of including the views of young people and their crucial role in the implementation and accountability for the SDGs at global and national levels.

The event was hosted by the Permanent Missions of Denmark, Rwanda, and Sri Lanka; the Government of the United Kingdom, the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, the United Nations Development Programme and Restless Development.

Daham Sirisena has no official status whatsoever in the Sri Lankan delegation a foreign ministry spokesperson told Colombo Telegraph.

RE: Daham Sirisena Represents Sri Lanka At UN Youth-Led High Level Event

“President Maithripala Sirisena’s son Daham Sirisena has yesterday (today in New York time) participated in the youth-led high level event at the UN Headquarters. The event focused on the Role of Youth in the Implementation and Monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

Very good. Why send old guys who have only a few years left to live. These youth have 60 or more years to live, and do want the Earth to be like Venus or be flooded.

“The event was hosted by the Permanent Missions of Denmark, Rwanda, and Sri Lanka; the Government of the United Kingdom, the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, the United Nations Development Programme and Restless Development.”

Very Good. Get on the word Map as a responsible country.

Time to move on and away from D.S. Senanayaka, Kotalawala, Dudley Senanataka, SWRD , Srima, JR Premadasa, …..CBK, MaRa and Move on…

“Daham Sirisena has no official status whatsoever in the Sri Lankan delegation a foreign ministry spokesperson told Colombo Telegraph.”

He is representing his father. The wife of the President, asked the President, and the son in turn obliged. He got his tie too.

Does anybody want the Meekatak, Buffalo from Medamulana?

      Dear Sirs,
What are the antecedents/ qualifications of Pallewatte Gamaralalage Daham Sirisena please.Did he address the youth conference and what was the language he spoke. Thanks.

Could a good Samaritan tell me what background young Sirisena has when it came to education, marriage , income source etc. I know of his advances towards someone FEMALE at a holiday resort and the then Minister Sirisena had to use his power to protect Sadham Sirisena… the then Naughty son.

        Thanks.

Just gossips of the day :)

While his father is taking part – what should he do else than taking part youth or whatever meetings being held there ? Why cant we think that in a positive manner ? Yes, may be it is not nice Prez to take his son to the Asembly, but i really dont think that this should be highlighted as healdline news.

Anyways, malice and jealoucy cant bring us nowhere… let the father do so, but in today s situation where each and everyone is given right to criticise the other- – journalists can do the job in a better manner.

      @rarityminds,

If MR would have taken any of his sons, you have questioned the travel necessity. but when My3 does, it looks fine for you. You are totally biased on your views.

FYI,I abhorred the MR’s so called Chintana.

Deference is.MARA made his entire family and friends a bunch of crooks, to make him look good..(ali baba and 40 thieves)..that won’t happens with President Maithri..

Not only entire family – but also street boys LIKE Wimal Buruwanse and social scum stuff like Mervin was taken to please him with music. Who did he think he is… Bugger destroyed poor mans funds as no other on this earth. That is why simply we are fully against MR but not MY3 sofar sofar. not.

Okay man – Let s have a break and only discuss on on about Daham Sirisena as if we dont have any other burning issues. What a world ?
Today any minion would attack the other. some times for no reasons or mild ones.. acutally, at the time Bugger et al MR was raping the nation, the very same folks stayed as if they ate KIRMATI – like kirmati gilapu kimbullu – AS IF CROCODILE were fed with clay. This is the nature of srilankens. SO long stupid folks will not reduce to significant levels, nothing down there would be the case. MY3 risked everything to achieve the levels that we enjoy today- therefore, I and the many who studied it respect him that much. That is basta.

This “rarityminds” thinks he is not belongs to stupid Sri Lankans.. I guess he is correct.. he belongs to ultra stupid Siri Lankans. He still believing Gamarala’s Yahapalanaya lies or jokes…. . King Gamarala said so many lies including the word “yahapalanaya”. Just after 7~8 months in power Gamaralalage Sirisena started promoting Prince Gamarala by introducing him to world leaders at UN… What a hypocrite.. I start thinking this 47 year veteran politician Gamarala is worse than Hambantota man to the future of the country..

Is that not too early to make such statements ?

Whoever he is – Gamarala or Gamamahage – what matters is he has not abused the office sofar. If you are honest to you – please get your facts right ? But [Edited out] et all coming from Madamulana even today swimm being on trunk show and abuse the people s funds. Why should the current govt provide the bugger with that many of 240 security men. Let the bugger be found drained as it was the case for Gadafi – or not the wish of those 62% that sent him home in January the 8th ?

          • 2
            2

You may be representing those 50% that voted for Buruwanse et al. But mine would never ever vote for the idiots. Since the day dawn that MR free lanka is there only, I thought of returning to the country. Last time, it was 6 wks ago – i felt as if i m relieved as never before. But last November I felt it was Zimbabwe I just put my feet in. Many that supported the iditic era of Maharaja would do so – since those brains are filled with extrements only. Other 50% had to suffer that much just because the dominnance of Rjaapkahse men and women took it to their hands. Bugger never thought that his glass wall would break into pieces to the manner it is to this date.

One report in Asia Mirror says that Daham is pursuing a law degree in the UK.

Do the UK Universities conduct law degrees in Sinhala medium?

I dont think that Daham cant speak English.

        What do you mean ?

I really dont know UK unis offer course in Sinhala medium.
I know know that the Heidberg uni offers once course in Sinhala.
Ich weisse wirklich nicht was Du damit meinst. NV, what bothers me is why people make headlines for above issues ? We have so many issues realted to the grab funds amounting 3.5 billions being kept away from Srilanka (alleged to have kept in Dubai or Cyprus banks) – all these are the issues. That former Baggage boy cum Monitoring minister aka beater to HC UK, had promised to reveal a lot about those transactions. Much more to surface soon.
Let s see how will that all end up for Rajanos

“what bothers me is why people make headlines for above issues”

If you don not understand the gravity of nepotism, then lets talk about his close relationship with Asela and the incident that alleged to have taken place in Clique night club at Race Course, Reid Avenue, Colombo 07.

          • 1
            1

If this is that grave – MY3 will have to respond on this on his return.

But I would never compare MY3 with MR. They have sky-earth differences.

For me any young chap deserve his second chance. Be them Rajapakshes or Sirisena or Mervins – we only need to give chance to any educated youth to come forward. Besides once criminal cant be a criminalfor his rest of life right ? In today environment, there will be no place for nepotism- what MR promoted was not only nepotism but mainly banditism.

            • 2
              0

No fair-minded person will deny anyone a second chance. But, when someone has committed misdemeanours and their character is open to question, we expect them to clear their names and rehabilitate themselves before they return to ask for a second chance.

Part of growing up is to understand the meaning of humility, entitlement and impunity. This is particular important for children whose parents are in public service. Failure to do so is more than likely to lead to that slippery road to disapproval, and to run the risk of being dubbed a ‘privileged shit’. Our small island has more than our fair share of that kind.

          • 2
            0

I commend all those who have taken time to comment. Not to do so would be to accept that ‘everything is fine and dandy’ and that would only lead others to think that this is perfectly acceptable behaviour. It cannot be. Entitlement leads to impunity and impunity may well lead to another diplomat getting a slapping, or worse. You know that is the last thing on our minds.

It’s a disgrace if the son & father return to Sri Lanka, please divert the return flight to N Korea or Somalia….!!

We are witnessing the worst of nepotism within the year – just imagine what we are going to see during the next 10 yrs. Mahinda mama is not bad, actually!!!

    • 15
      3

Actually Mahinda Mama’s son Namal was an elected member of the parliament, what status does Daham Sirisena has? I have not seen Mahinda mama taking the second and third sons to UN for that matter. Dham Sirisena is a thug and a bully. Once he made a pass at a wife of a DIG’s son at “Malu Malu” and there was a huge fight (MSD folks were involved) and MS had to intervene…why these brats get the escort/support of the MSD. They seem to have the energy in their body so let them go and thrash out with one another and waste their energy. I can remember children of many powerful politicians in early 80s (SLFP, UNP and even LSSP/CP) how they behaved. They were down to earth and did not have any security and some travelled by bus and some drove their own cars.

Keep up the good work Colombo Telegraph.

But, unfortunately, however much CT attacks Maithri’s nepotism, nothing will change. Next time when Maithri travels abroad on an official visit he may take his daughter with him.

Nepotism appears to be entrenched in Sri Lankan political culture. Ranil is lucky because he won’t be faced with any family compulsion of the kind that Maithri now faces.

At another level, being myself a father, I understand Maithri’s dilemma and I feel sorry for him because he has to put up with this type of persistent media exposure.

So Naga; Ranil can’t take his Wife with him?

      • 1
        0

        @Hamlet
Sure he can.. but I think we are well entitled to object if Mrs. RW is seated with the Official Delegation, having no official capacity. I think this is what the issue is.

    • 7
      0

After the circus performance by the previous regime, and flaunting of nepotism, it is only natural that the new regime will be scrutinized closely. Maithripala also criticized his predeccesors, and is expected to uphold better principals, and show exemplary qualities befitting a leader of this country. Saying one thing and doing another is not what we voted for. We expect better from him, not the same.

CT has every right to bring all this to our attention, after all that is what freedom of the media is all about.
Without criticism, our politicians will get away with even more.

Why can’t the Sri Lankan diaspora demonstrate againt nepotism wherever he visits on an official visit with any family member other than his wife?

  • 10

If he has no official status what the hell is he doing all over at UN at every official meeting ? my3 is not a baby and he criticized MR enough over nepotism. If he’s deliberately taking his son around, knowing full well it’s going to be news, it just means HE doesn’t care two hoots what the public thinks or says ! It’s a slap in the face of all Sri Lankans who voted for him – these same voters are now trying to justify this blatant violation of protocol !! It’s time the stupid and naive yahapalanaya voters woke up and took responsibility for the absolute joke they installed as a president !

And you guys still dont know who MR is…
he last week said, that the former party men shoudl bear the costs of over millions that he alone wasted…

Days ahead he will shamelessly say, all the condoms and the night club bills that his IRC sons may have abused should also be paid by GENERAL public – THIS MAN s mouth is wandered to the other end replacing it. So that the bugger would know nothing but the kind of statements to drop down.

    ROFL!!

Looks like “Yahapalanaya” is simply a “Back To The Future” version of “Mahinda Chinthanaya”

Bit by bit, the relations are getting into the act. First brother, then daughter, now son… Soon it will be cousin, in-law, second-cousin.

Aiyo m[Edited out]. Daham speaks English like most Sinhala Speaking Gamarala’s sons who were sent abroad or sent to Royal or St.Thomas to read and write adn speak English. His Excellency needed an interpreter and a foreign policy advisor. By virtue of his exile for thuggocracy and beach pervert fights with DIG’s sons he is fully qualified to give foreign policy advise. MR took his sons. CBK did not; Sirima took her son on foreign trips too. Dudley did not have sons being a gay as in happy bachelor. Mangy takes his partners on foreign trips at tax payer expense. So what? give this guy a break.

If you do not promote your own siblings who will. According to Amarasiri, Daham has 148 IQ. My3 is the Bodhisattava and Siri Sangabo. MR took Namal and his youngest son who loves Louis Vuitton clothing on trips where Sri Lankan airline incurred massive losses. CBK took Ramzi Rahaman her hairdresser and Padma Maharaja to UN at people’s expense. Mangy stayed at Waldorf rather than at a Patel Motel or a Holiday inn. My3 did not charter a plane. He took a small delegation. He needed a family member. Sirima always took a lady family member to help her too. GIVE HIM A BREAK MAN.

Please do not laugh at Dahams’ and Prez MS’ English.

UNPers started calling the 1st PM FATHER OF THE NATION and gave publicity and also some had a figment in their imagination that D.S. “WON” independence for S.L. Any Marxist of the old brigade will explain what really happened in the Legislative Council & State Council days of Sir James Pieris, Sir D.Baron Jayatilake, G.G.Ponnambalam, Philip Gunawardena, Dr N.M. , Lesley Goonewardena and Colvin R.de Silva days (to name a few)and how they fought for SWARAJ.A writer to this forum – CBO TELEGRAPH – wrote that even as the 1st PM of Independent CEYLON ,7 std educated Rt Hon (Conferred by the Queen under his own recommendations)who went to St Thomas’ College, & then later to England and Europe with Sir John to get English educated and finishing touches to cater to the then TUPPAHI Society with whom he tried to move until his death, had spoken BROKEN ENGLISH & MISPRONOUNCED English words. The writer referenced the book , A SURVEY of SOCIAL Change in an Imperial Regime by A.P. Kannangara,D.Phil (OXON.)Nobody laughed at him except for a few scholars and “high society people” it seems ,because of his stature. They say that after he became the Leader in the State Council in 1943 he had used trusted officers like Oliver E. Goonetilleke (Later Sir), Sir Kanthiyah Vaithyanadan and A. Mahadevan to get explanation on Laws and to write in English etc. Some UNPers and teachers like Prof. K.M.de Silva have misdirected the masses and portrayed Mr D.S. like the HERO who must get the credit for our Independence. Soulbery’s working and idea about independence to Ceylon along with India and Burma ( & division of India to E & W. Pakistan w/machinations of Ali Jinnah) had been in the offing much before 1943 and specially after the Colebrook Commission when all Ceylonese recd the opportunity to cast our vote…Universal Franchise or in T & S “SARWA – BALA- CHANDA. Prof K.M.de S. had not read the Hansards of 1920s and the 1930s and the 1940s to understand the services… towards gaining independence… of the forthright Marxists and veteran politicians like G.G.Ponnambalam, Sir D.B.J.(undisputed Leader of the Nation for 20 years) and his Senior Sir James Pieris.

So let us give more chances to Daham and his Prez Father. Everybody …including old RT. HON. D.S. had a shrewd and cunning learning curve after all! They also will have writers like Prof K.M. de Silva to paint them nicely LATER AS HE DID TO JR(WITH WIGGINS) AND DS .

OLD CEYLON EVEN WAS AWARE THAT WHEN OLD RT. HON. D.S. WENT TO UNITED KINGDOM ONCE ON OFFICIAL DUTY, HE GAVE A FREE RIDE UP TO LONDON TO HIS DISTANT RELATIVE STUDENT GAMINI COREA(LATER DR, UNDP CONSULTANT AND DEP.GOVERNOR CENTRAL BANK.) AT THAT TIME NOBODY CRITICISED OLD HON. D.S. WH…..Y…Y…Y ? I DON’T KNOW WHY? AS SUNIL PERERA SAYS ALWAYS !

        Dear Readers,

Please do not write more against our dear president and their dear family. Its known well that they are not used to Western Protocol. Please give them a chance to join the trend accepted under the POPULAR VIEW.Everybody has to have a learning curve. As a rider to Chandragupta’s episode above, our 1st P.M. D.S. Senanayake was on a train with some Britishers. When tea was served, the P.M. had poured some tea in to his saucer and sipped the tea while making the drawing noise. Then the Britisher had asked him why he was not following etiquette. Then the P.M. had quipped, “YOU DRINK ETIQUETTE WHILE I DRINK TEA.” The P.M. had been a crude person, and nobody had questioned him on some of his practices. If that was done by our present President M.S., how many would have ridiculed him. Our people , while forgetting local standards, carry matters too far…to a point of no return.

Yahapalanaya was put in place by the Elite and the West for the Elite, Anglicans and the Vellalas.

How fitting is that the Yahapalana President sends his own son to represent the new generation of our Elite and the Anglicans.

No wonder our Vellalas are sitting in the Opposition.

  • 2
    0

The reality is President Maithripala is held to a much higher standard than any previous Sri Lankan president. This is as it should be. The mandate the people gave him was NOT to be a Rajapakse. Even if he acted in good faith in taking his son to the UN, or asking his daughter to visit communities in Polonnaruwa, this is against people’s expectations of him. It brings back too much bad memories of the children of the previous regime and betrays the trust people have placed in him as their leader. It is time for the President to act for the good of the country and place the feelings and aspirations of his people above his family’s. If this means keeping his children out of the limelight, so be it. If this young man and lady want to genuinely take part in public life, let them do so on their own steam, without abusing their position as two lucky sperm.

If the President allows the status quo, the tragic end result will be his children turning out to be like a majority of Sri Lankan political offspring – a nuisance to the public and a drain on the State’s resources.
