Pro-Rajapaksa Group Decides To Contest LG Elections As A New Party

The UPFA rebels supporting former President Mahinda Rajapaksa have decided to sever their ties with the SLFP and contest as a separate front at the upcoming Local Government elections.

A large group of SLFP MP’s too have already initiated discussions to join the front under the blessings of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Vasudeva Nanayakkara

Rebel group member Vasudeva Nanayakkara said political parties in the UPFA other than the SLFP had held a discussion with former President Rajapaksa on Sunday about forming a common front to defeat the UNP and SLFP coalition.

Nanayakkara said that over 30 SLFP MP’s too participated indicating a major split within the party led by President Maithripala Sirisena.

He said that the new front has the blessings of Rajapaksa and added that soon the stance of the new front will be announced to the public.

Nanayakkara said that the SLFP’ers who have formed a so-called national government with the UNP have not expressed any desire to beat the Ranil Wickremesinghe led UNP at the upcoming polls.

The UPFA MP pointed out that during the last general election too the grassroots SLFP voters had defeated those who conspired against Rajapaksa and added that in future too the new alliance was confident of getting their support.

Nanayakkara went on to say that voters who are burdened with the spiraling cost of living and disappointed with the broken promises of the so-called Yahapalana government was clamouring for a change.

He said that as a section of the SLFP, including its new leaders have tied the knot with UNP the grassroots level members of the party were waiting for an alternative led by Rajapkasa.

He said that the new front will fill this vacuum and will come forward as a viable alternative to the UNP ands SLFP coalition.

Meanwhile the new SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake said that the UPFA will win the forthcoming polls under the leadership of Sirisena.

Dissanayake refuted claims that there was a split in the party and added that the UPFA consisting the SLFP and other affiliated parties will contest under one banner.

Have you noticed how the number of comments on such articles in CT are diminishing even on seemingly inetersting topics. In the recent past they generated lively comments of over 60.

    Possible reasons:

    1) People are getting weary of the antics by politicians of all shades.

    2) With more freedom of expressions there are other channels of expression for the people to express their views.

Yeah, you’re right. Also I’d like to add one more reason: some have nothing better to do than park their uneventful lives on the pages of CT and keep repeating their entrenched views displaying their crude understanding of the world. This drives away people who are looking for a useful and intelligent discussion of the changing nature of today’s socio-political realities.

This is a welcome move for the future of Sri Lanka, as the ground would be laid for the
exit of Mahinda from Politica for good. The UNP has a firm grip for the next few years
at least, as MS has proved himself as a non-starter. He will be content with the post
he holds while leading the SLFP in name only. the sinhala vote will thus be shared
by MR-MS-JVP-UNP, leading to another hybrid UNP governance.

Thank God. At last they have made the right decision. It is good for Sri Lanka.
The young voters have wide choices and they will vote for good quality candiadates.
So it is going to be a message to the gang of 4 that it is time for them to retire from politics.

Yes It is good for Srilanka as a Nation and People. Greedy and self oriented Mahinda Rajapakse dig his own grave with 2008 Presidential election along with his underworld thug Gotapaya and opporunistic leftists who became part racists like Wimalawanse, Gammanwila, Dayan Jeyatilake and Buddhist Fundamentalist Bodu Bala Sena’s blood thirsty mission.

Let them find their own graves.

What a pathetic figure this Vasideva is cutting out to be.

Once he was a firebrand who stood up to the rights of the downtrodden. Now he is so closely alligned with thieves, rapists, kudu mudalalis and driven by a great mission to bring the greatest robber baron of Sri Lanka – Mahinda Rajapaksa back to power.

To call Vasideva pathetic is an understatement.

It is said when “GOD”want to punish people, HE bring them to the TOP and DROP so that they feel the plunge and perhaps end up with the “EXTINCTION”. Vasu, please go ahead soon and do this, because even though you were voted with thousands and thousands of MANAPAYA, they, voters are today regretting. However, I admire you FOUR – Wimal,Vasu,Dinesh and Gammanpila for the bravery displayed commencing from Nugegoda. In the same way you all must say GOOD BYE to political life in this country. GOOD BYE in “Advance”.

Funny I had the impression that the Honorable minister Vasu and the others were the ones standing up for the people. Oh not your people, sorry.

This is a welcome democratic move. Remember one thing, no party can win election after election. It has been tried before.

Vasudeva is an opportunist. He will do anything to come to limelight. At one stage he potrayed as a saviour of Tamils, then working class now he is licking MR for his own survival. This guy is a very rich goon who has no known principles in life. He along with Buruwansa, Dinesh kaka and Gamanpila clinging onto the bits and pieces of what remains of MR. Vasu dis the same thing when Sirimavo was in power clinging onto her sari potta.

Welcome news! Finally we in SL (not all the commentators who are abroad and typing away or in Kolombo country and typing away) can depend in an organized opposition that will challenge the RW-MS government. MS needs to kick RW out and form a true SLFP led progressive government. This is the only way MS can win the support of the masses who voted for UPFA. If not he can continue the marriage with RW….the grassroots of the UPFA/SLFP do not trust MS and for MS to win the confidence he has to act decisively not only talk. If he fails Vasu/Dinesh/Wimal/Udaya group will win a fair share of seats at the local government elections and SLFP will be pushed to third position fighting for the fourth place with JVP/SF…MS still has an opportunity to reverse it but he needs to act and not play double games….I am sure if he acts decisively the progressive groups in the united opposition will support him but he needs to play his cards clean.

very good idea pissuvasu. We like to see you crooked shits disappear from the face of politics for ever and this is a good way to ensure this happens. Also be careful how much monies you will be spending on this campaign as we will be monitoring this very closely. Another opportunity for corruption to be established and you crooks brought before the law. I noticed the other day that your socks had holes in them, obviously you guys need to now make some money as the pervious opportunists under the great deposed patriot and family are no longer available.

Why or why does Vasu not contest from his own party? Then we will see his real political support.
