Rajitha Reiterates MR Cronies Banked US $ 500 M In Dubai

The Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Rajitha Senaratne today reiterated that the government had reliable information on eight accounts maintained by some top-notch politicians and officials of the former regime in several Banks in Dubai, with deposits amounting to more than US $500 million.

Rajitha

Speaking to media in Colombo today Senaratne said that the government expects to freeze these accounts with the UAE government’s help and bring back the money which were plundered by corrupt officials and politicians of the past regime.

While noting that there was an ongoing investigation, Senaratne said the names of the account holders will be revealed after the investigations are over.

Disclosing the amount of monies deposited in some of the accounts Senaratne went on to say that in one account there was more than US $500 million while another two had US $1.086 million and 1.8 million respectively.

When a journalist said that Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has refuted claims that he had maintained an account in a Dubai bank with deposits amounting to US $500 million, Minister Senaratne replied that no one had accused Namal, the eldest son of Rajapaksa.

“If the cap fits, Namal can wear it” Rajitha replied in response to the question raised by the journalist.

Earlier Senaratne had said that Sri Lankan investigators have located more than $2 billion that was secretly transferred to accounts in Dubai by figures close to the administration of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

“We have information that more than $10 billion, more than our country’s foreign reserves, is kept outside the country by those closely related to the last government,” Senaratne had earlier said.

However Rajapaksa family members have dismissed as “nonsense” the government’s purported claims..

These monies hidden away,if brought back could provide relief to the rural and urban poor at the pending Budget next month.

I count the days until this come to surface. We really want the facts. I have no doubt about these men have looted the state. But we ve been waiting to see these allegations becoming facts soon. Then only, Rajapakshe men should and must show their real face to own folks.

Today, infront of the court yards, there were big gathering – cheered the man again and again… but the day that the stupid folks reluctantly need to turn their minds to realities are becoming clear now than had been few months ago.

That is their nature to take anything as no serious. Just evasively answered to locals and international communities. That was the point grew to destroy the regime he ran. They have not learnt to be serious with national issues. This should come from their upbringing, even if a murder is done, with a smile they add their thoughts to the press – as they are born morons. I really dont know whether these Rajapakshe are real srilankens.

          You are spot on.

See, the manner MR throws ball onto UPFA… whenver he is questioned on the huge sums pending without being paid.

Was he not the head of state ?

Why cant happen the similar issues today ? under MY3 ?

If the like would have been the case under MY3, would those men MR and his supporters leave it as it is ?

Why ITN stays normal today and why the hudson worked that virulent before 8th Jan ?

          Why why why
If MY3 and Ranil W abused the TV or other media institutions for their campaigns, today, Wimal Buruwanse would have gone mad..

Why is this double nature ?

Yes, next days when his toilet pits would overflow, the bills would have to be paid by UPFA. Moreover, the fees of the accounts holding at the bank of Dubai would also have to pay by UPFA.

Shameless bugger, would have no chance to escape this time. Very same people are not stupid as they appeared to be.

This I read in today s tabloid

“hat included the firm’s strong belief that it could “recover and return” to the Government of Sri Lanka through the courts in Dubai the monies in the account if there was proof it was obtained through criminal or illegal means. He was later joined in the effort by Dilrukshi Dias Wickremesinghe, in her capacity as a consultant to a different local organisation. Substantively she is the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). The office she holds prevented her from working elsewhere for a fee. By then, multiple channels, including those revealed last week in these columns, had confirmed the existence of the account. Later, the identities of at least seven others, including the young politician’s brother, holding similar accounts in the same bank became known.”

Only few of those who comment seem to have any idea that Rajitha is a man who will say whatever that comes to his imagination – these are colossal amounts and to ‘leak’ hazy information is not worthy of a cabinet spokes person. He is a street talker and will always remain so.

Namal has a right to respond as Rajitha’s description of the so-called account holders directly reflect the Rajapakses. These sort of amounts are not difficult to trace – so just do that and come up with facts without trying to keep the media interest pot boiling.

Plundered money should be brought back where they belong, they belong to the people of Srilanka. That money do not belong to the last crooked leader, his families, the politicians nor the boot lickers of the last regime.

Build some decent schools in the villages with computer and science labs ect for the future of our children.
Educate the hungry children who are hungry to move forward in their lives but no proper schools and highly educated Teachers in village schools to teach. Why the rich only can attend the best schools ,
The Plundered money should be used to build fully equipped hospitals in villages.

These should be given priority . Plundering state wealth should be a thing of the past.
Bribery and corruption has taken to the worst of the worst during the last Regime.
With the plundered wealth the Srilankan high profile thieves are laundering stolen money in the form of buying luxury properties , hotels ect.
      It should be stopped.
The SL politicians have become thieves as money launderers.
Trying to buy properties in the names of their families in UK, Singapore, Malaysia, USA, Australia and so on.

Hope our present government will stop this for ever.
All that money belongs to our country not belong to these politicians turned thieves.

“Good job, get these crooks. Get their hands chopped off.”

If that is what you want for the crooks, you should start chopping your hand first, then ….. Ultimately there won’t be anyone left to chop the last person’s hand.

You should relocate to one of those medieval kingdoms where you can find a job at the hand chopping department. I am sure you will enjoy being a Sri Lankan hand chopper.

Your family should keep all their sharp implements under locak and key.

If chopping hands is not a good idea, let them suffer in jail for rest of the lives at tax-payers expenses with the possibility of parole within a few years or change of government.

“let them suffer in jail for rest of the lives at tax-payers expenses with the possibility of parole within a few years or change of government.”

If the thief’s hand is chopped off, there is no guarantee that the guilty will stop stealing with other hand.

In fact it will have the opposite effect. Now without hands he will have to depend on his family (parents, siblings, wife, children, friends, relatives, the state, ………). Its a burden we can do without.

He will conveniently place himself on the pavement and beg for money. Guilt driven passersby will have to throw few cents at him.

Alternatively the prison service and the state should rehabilitate the thief so that he would contribute to the country.

I assume you are a Tamil or a Sinhalese for you seem to rage with vengeance.

Native, Since there is no point in captal punishment that will not reduce serious crimes and no point in jailing either as majority of them will return to jail anyway, won’t it be a good idea to do away with all this nonesense about law and order, justice and jail? which turn will save billions for the state.

The amount keeps on fluctuating from 1 million to 10 billion. This is another part of the M-A-I-G technique, which has now been perfected to be an art.

Nothing Rajitha says has any credibility. For that matter nothing that anyone says has any credibility, whether MARA family or the Sirisena + ranil combo. Rajitha should be named as a modern day Grimm for the fairy tales is doling out everyday.

Even if it is true, fat hopes that they will release the booty. We are working with different gangs of thieves here. Why do you think they selected UAE for this? Because they know that the money is safe.

I think the source and destination of the moneys lend by BoC London Branch to selected Sri Lanka originated residents in UK for the purchase of second homes during the last few years od MR Regime should be investigated. BoC seemed to have been flush with money for this purpose (at a time MR’s Brother in Law was the Chairman of BoC) whereas in UK, British Banks were extremely reluctant to lend any money for mortgages and were highly controlling their assets. My question is, were these generous loans to selected individuals a way of investing ill gotten black money from SLK in UK property market with strings attached, via relatives and friends of the ruling family at the time, i.e. a way of laundering blackmoney but keeping the power to control and recoup such moneys later. Otherwise how could BoC from such a relatively poor country be awash with foreign currency to invest in UK whereas British Banks were crying out for funds and bailouts by the public.

Rajitha [Edited out] Senaratna is at it again.

Wasn’t he sitting next to his recent ex Boss, the President in the Cabinet for at least 5, if not more years?…

Was he on the ” Pipe” then, not to know what their then friends were up to, if they were pumping this sort of dosh into Bedouin Banks?.

To get USD 5 Billion even as Commissions , the deals would have to be in excess of 50 Billion if the cut is 10 percent.

I mean that is fairly hefty , considering Perpetual could pocket only 2.95 Percent.

May be Elite and the Anglicans are not too sharp when i comes to working out sums.

There is no point hearing about this again and again, and being disappointed that no one is doing anything about it. Anyone who plays this country out, at any level, must be held accountable, if found guilty of these crimes. How can we eradicate corruption if those on top keep playing us out, into the millions, and all we hear is talk afterwards. I hope this time this leads to accountability and the millions given back to the country.
I also hope that the new regime will not do the same to us. It is a shame that we are notorious for corruption, and that the example came from the leaders.

Your confidence in Rajitha and Yahapalanaya is touching.

But You’d think that such a subject which seems common knowledge to all and about which every Yahapalana hanger-on apparently has intimate knowledge (not to mention PROOF) would be so easy to track down and prosecute, no ?

Yet NOTHING has happened except a few of low-level people have been harassed and slung into jail with no proof and no result

Nothing will or can happen. Yahapalanaya must protect it’s future earnings. To do that, it cannot criminalise the Past Earnings of past administrations

          Maalumiris ,

Your Mafia Boss is not a petty thief , but a very sophisticated criminal who can outsmart even FBI or MI5 , he is not naive to open bank accounts on his own name or his close relatives , this was done in early 70 s, in 80 s, crooks used their relatives’ names to open accounts , fast forward to 2015 , Criminals had been using their subordinates’ relatives names to hide their loot now, it’s an upheaval battle to go against the stringent banking rules & regulations at off shore banks.

let me tell you one incident where MR swindled the national wealth that no one can touch him , in Dubai , a srilnakan called Nandana Lokuvithana who happened to be the owner of the Marriott hotel , now who can prove the wealth that Nandana Lokuvithana posses is not his .don’t expect these complicated matters to solve in a month or two , have some patience Maalumiris !!!

these people would never learn it. Did you see how MR was cheered by them yesterday? For them even if MR thugs would rape them on day light, the stupid folks would go on kneeling down them. I have never seen the kind of stupid folks. Now almost everyone is becoming clear that Mafia king has looted the nation as no other. We can wait another few weeks, until all the truth will come to surface about the billions that the bugger has kept aside for his family. All the account stories are not fairy tales.

I really dont think – that we can catergorically say that all these are media displays.

These high issues on higher abuses have been reported before the elections.
And the complexity of tracing the truth had been reported by the current govt even at the beginning. I believe, now some evidences have been surfacing so that investigators can corner them.
Once this is done, MR et al is caught by horns. The days ahead of us will reveal this for sure, else, the current regime has lot to loose. I really dont think that they would let that go.

And the fact that Yoshita – one of MR offspring to have left the country for Dubai shortly after the new government first phase began – can bring more clarrifications.
Who would have sums to spend that many millions while going to stay in Dubai spending luxary holidays…. than German or UK soccer players. Latter earn a few millions a year to cover their bills while MR sons did nothing like that…. guys, open your eyes.

$10 billion? really? Even if the commission is 10% we’d need $100 billion over the period of 10 years. Who the heck gave us $100 bil? That would make $10 bil per year! Fairy tales! Yahapalanaya has done nothing but lie to the face of the people. From the start of good governance, upto now. 100 days thingy is forgotten. Going to polonnaruwa, nobody said anything like that i suppose. Ranil stealing from the CB bonds, i guess its okay when they do it. Sam Jayasinghe: Thank you. You said: “Hey be real”. Yes I am real. This Minister has brought immense problems to this Government at various occasions, trying to explain things to media as the “Cabinet Spokesman”. That need not be explained here, but the public is well aware. You asked me how he is going to explain to media, when questioned about these overseas bank accounts. Isn’t there a way to give a plausible answer, rather than talk of million US dollars and mentioning relationship to VVIPs and their siblings. These are matters at high level investigations for the moment and financial frauds are not the easy matters to finalize in such hurry. When some facts that have been surfaced are announced as “specifics” and “realities” that too would hamper the proper investigative process. He could have said in general terms:”yes, all these matters are very complicated as you know and at this present stage of advance investigations, it is not relevant or proper to give specifics. However, very soon the details will be pronounced to the public”. Isn’t that enough? Why “bark” in advance of the “rising moon”?

You also, in another comment dated Oct.16th mentioned: “….Yoshitha one of MR offspring left the country to Dubai…” Please find out “WHO” took him on that mission armed with a “Power of Attorney”. You will be surprised beyond limits when the name comes out. That too is in the “Investigation process”. I hope this Minister who speaks most of the time “out of turn” will keep his mouth shut, without hampering the investigations.

Money laundering by the top Politicians and the bootlickers . Stop it Yahapalanaya. The Srilankan thief Politicians are worse than some of the other 3 rd world countries.
Number one attempt was by CBK long before , now thousands of them , the Politicians and the Boot lickers have joined since the last Regime took to power.

State wealth had been ROBBED from the people of Srilanka as I said before these Modayas are still dancing with the crook.

First, he owes an apology to people of Sri-Lanka for that fantasy story…This guys is good to write stories….oh forgot tell stories…no body believes what he says…he should first clean his own backyard. Mahinda Rajapakse is the Ferdinand Marcos (deposed former Philippines President) of Sri Lanka. Philippines are still on the hunt for the BIG money said to have been stashed by the Marcoses’ during their strong arm rule of philippines and so far they have recovered only a fraction of the estimated billions of dollars since the strongman was ousted in a people’s uprising over two decades ago.
We are running just into the 11th month since MR was ousted in a an inauspicious election held on Jan 08.
Billions here and billions there are just political dramas from the same political stage and the same actors except that there is a change of director, MR to MS.
MR is well protected by the government as the President and most ministers are his disciples from before and will be untouched and unharmed.

What is the difference? Saudi Arabia earns so much from oil revenue, that it finances terrorism all over the world. It has destroyed the once prosperous and democratic state of Syria. In the latest transaction, Saudi Arabia sent 500 TOW missiles to “moderate” Syrian fighters. Saudi Arabia has also bombed the country of Yemen to pieces, though the Western media will never report it.

Now, in the USA, it is not a secret, but a law, that allows members of the “Congress” to stock trade with insider information.

Sri Lanka may not have the oil wealth or a big stock market, but politicians are still politicians. Absolute power corrupts, wherever you look. The new government will be corrupt, just like the old one.
