Ranil is stepping down to get his promotion, Opposition Leader, a post that he loves a lot. Ranil is surely a visionary leader whose concerns are future & full of dreams. But a pragmatic leader is more practical & solves problems faster. Unfortunately, RW is not a pragmatic type, and this is a reason he is unpopular. After all, what will you do with too many dreams & imaginations when you only have 5 years to execute them?

What gentleman’s politics? He is the worst PM we ever had. Starting with the bond scam, appointing his cronies to Sri Lankan airline and his friends Ratwatte and Paskaralingam as his advisors he has done a lot of damage to the country. He could not comprehend the feelings of the common man and trusted only his Royalist friends. Last gimmick was the MCC deal where he tried to please his masters in the USA. He allowed his rogue ministers to be corrupt and also made underhand deals to prevent any Rajapakse getting arrested for their misdeeds. He has no feeling towards Sri Lanka but only worked to cultivate his image overseas. He ruined the grand old UNP beyond repair and no wonder Sajith lost due to the antics of Ranil, Mangala, Ravi K and Rajitha.

CT,
I honestly believe that Ranil, under very difficult circumstances, set the stage for three big achievements: 1. Setting the stage for economic recovery; 2. Setting a new political culture of eliminating politics from the Gvt services justice system; and, 3. opening the Gvt to public inquiry (will GoRa regime will continue the good habit is the question). Unfortunately, SL public mindset is not in a position to understand the value of such a change in political culture even though they themselves complain constantly against nepotism & political favoritism or, put in another words lack of high level democratic culture.
–
He also believe in working together, leaving politics asides after elections, for the good of the country. This was the main idea behind Yahapalanaya. But, unfortunately, not even the president (MY 3) couldn’t appreciate such a noble goal. Ranil’s failure was his underestimation of political risk of his attempts even after the realization that MY 3 was not mature enough to follow his path. His lack of charisma, not the vision, I believe that caused his downfall.
–
Therefore, the challenge of the new UNP leadership will be to carry on Ranil’s vision, while finding a way not to lose the confidence of the voters. This is mostly a leadership issue.

Ranil made a big mistake in ignoring conflict of interest with Arjuna Mahendran being the Governor of the Central Bank and his son-in-law dealing in bonds. After the scam was exposed Ranil should have sent Mahendran on compulsory leave pending a full investigation. That big mistake came back to bite Ranil and the UNP.

We demand that ongoing Parliament has delivered nothing except chaos, uncertainties and political-economic-social turmoil in Island-wide since 2015 Jan 8th .
This confuses situation in island-wide needed to redress promptly by GR and MR govt .. unfinished that task is required moderate attention by SLPP leadership.
An immediate task is to be dissolve Parliment and go for New Parliment Election . People seek fresh mandate for Parliment is very crucial.
By and large UNP leadership was headed by Ranil Wicaks of Prime,
MS of President of Republic and CBK of SLFP “Federalist” line of governance.
Meanwhile that (UNP) + alliance of JVP, MC, and TNA has done irreparable damages to Island. …basic norms of order of Democracy .
Policies of UNP an Economy has shifted to tremendous failure ; result of that recovered and recapitalization of needed pumping billions of US dollars reinvigorate of economy.
These unfinished Task cannot be fulfill by overnight. …It is long-process of responsibilities of govt undertaken by SLPP of GR and MR has to delivered according by promised…2019 election.
Before 2019 Presindtail election so there was a period of stagnation and decline of whole Economy of that while majority people become rock bottom to poverty under UNP regime of that RW .
The period of UNP that sharp of wealth concentration of few hands of UNP politicians and their family cronies. The political system of governance has began to dissolve in island – Democracy and basic rights of People of Sri lanakn.

Ranil and Sirisena either through sheer incompetence or by being hand in glove with the Rajapakses, destroyed a great opportunity to punish the Rajapakses and their cahoots for good, in the last 4 years.
There was a collective sigh of relief in 2015 when it looked like the Rajapakse tyranny had been defeated for good, and justice was to be meted out.
Now, the joke is on the people. The Rajapakses are back, stronger than ever.

UNP has to change. UNP will change – but we don’t know if the coming change is for good or worse.
The last tree in forest created by Britain, in 1931, with their mistake called Universal Franchise is falling down. It did not hold for environmental change. The wind by the changing world’s political and economic turbulence was too strong on the head and the roots are in the flood soaked earth, the allegiance to the uncivilized age Old Sinhala Buddhist culture. The Old fashioned mixed conservative- liberal Democratic ideas have faced early death in Lankawe before he rest of the world. Jerks and fatuous are to lead the country –compassion and statesmanship had given its way to the modern pompous, hypocrisy of Lankawe. Lankawe is showing off its I-Pad, I-Phone, I-Pod but the slave women in Middle East are crying I-Paid. Dictatorship with Kleptocracy – Communism (I do not know the right word for Slap Party’s political and Economic initiations and policies) is only one will thrive in the Wildlife Sanctuary.
Philosophical religion Buddhism, free market economy and democracy are too complicated ideas for the IQ 79 dwellers of the Wildlife Sanctuary, SinhaLE Lankawe. If Ranil had let the International Justice to take its toll on the War Criminals, the rescued country in 2015 would not have fallen into the hands of Satan’s and Devils once again. Now Ranil will sit and watch first 1). The country he redeemed from China is falling back to China 2). Then the criminal he saved being caught up by the justice system.

If the UNP have any chance of making a come back in the future he must also step aside as party leader and allow a fresh group to revitalize and take them forward . If he doesn’t, like the current SLFP, the UNP too will end up like what happened to the Dinasaurs.

This is a huge mistake the Rajapaksas will undo all the hard work done by this Government and dismantle the constitution and throw out democratic governance…

Sajith was forced onto the UNP when Karu was the best candidate and was give a chance… Sajith and those who forced him into this situation failed miserably… All the sore losers who can’t work with Ranil must leave the UNP and start their own party… if you are not a team player and can’t handle defeat or be humble you are not UNP material… tough fight against Fascism ahead no room for saboteurs in the UNP who can easily be manipulated or bought over by the Rajapaksas… if you think internal power struggles are more important than standing united against Fascism please leave the UNP…

Even Hirunika Premachandra just admitted in a public statement that there is no one even remotely intelligent as Ranil Wickremesinghe or even close. Elections are not just about getting votes. If you don’t have a key strategist in the party you will end up like the Rajapaksas win elections and have no practical workable vision for the nation or the ability to govern using democracy…
/

Have Sajith Premadasa and Harin Fernando taken money from the Rajapaksas to throw this election and split the UNP!? Petty power struggles within the UNP seems to be more important to this lot over fighting Fascism!!!
No political maturity whatsoever disappointing.
They don’t deserve to be in the UNP hand in your resignation and leave immediately

The country was saved from family of crooks and war criminals by VP, Hindia and the USA in May 2009.
–
Again the country was saved from the family of crooks, war criminals, …. by Hindia, USA, Chandrika, ….. and by the people in January 2015.
–
Now the country needs to be saved from family of crooks, war criminals, 52.25% of the voting population by 47.75% of the voting population.
–
May I know as to why you vote in the elections and the way you vote in the elections?

Please don’t respond if you haven’t got any answers.

It’s not back to square one, it’s even worse now!
Sinhalese are truly sorry people…

He almost gave 1/3 of the country to Tiger terrorists in 2005. As Prime Minister, the UNP under his watch has been losing the Presidential election for 23 yrs. Then there is the bondscam issue as well as negligence that contributed to Easter Sunday. Without doubt, the worst politician since Independence.

Buki Pala , DP ,Gamini see good in Ranil.
These gentlemen if they had the opportunity to be prime Minister four times and a minister for many years would surely have done better than ranil.
Ranil had so many opportunities. He simply did not have it in himself .

Today this country is in this state and the rogues have taken over is all because of this lazy bast#rd Ranil and that village mutt Sirisena. Charge them both and throw them in jail. Ranil rascal also ruined Sajith’s chances of becoming the President and saving this nation from the Rajapaksas.

THE main reason RANIL’S failure as a leader that he has no ability to reach the rural people of srilanaka by way of speaking good local singala verbal action.the village singalese enjoy a platform speaker to come out with double meaning speech or some light filth by way of attacking the opposing party.see people like RAJITH OR SPECIALLY WIMAL WERAWANSE who has noting in his head always wining because of his foul mouth.it is too late now and from this you can observe how the so called PROUD BUDIST OF LANAKA AND THEIR FOUL MENTALITY.GOOD LUCK FOR YOU RANIL.when singala modayas get up from there sleep, IT WILL BE TOO LATE AND THEY WILL HAVE LOT OF WEERWANSAS COMING UP IN POLITICS TO RULE THEM.
