Ruki Fernando And Father Praveen Detained In Kilinochchi

Ruki Fernando, who works for Rights Now Collective for Democracy and Father Praveen have been detained at the Kilinochchi police station, apparently on suspicion of a shooting.

At around 10.05 pm  tonight, several of his friends and colleagues received a text message from Ruki Fernando,on his mobile number [xxxxxxxxxx] stating that Ruki and Father Praveen have been detained at the Kilnochchi police station.

Later, Ruki informed a colleague via text, that he and father Praveen were being questioned separately.

A lawyer who called the Kilinochchi police station, was informed that no such persons were arrested by the Killinochchi police or being held at the police station. However the police said that two persons had been arrested by a specially appointed unit of the TID and were being held at a separate location in Kilinochchi.

Another lawyer who spoke to the OIC Kilinochchi was informed that Ruki and Praveen were being questioned and a decision regarding their continued detention would be made in the morning. This directly contradicts the version in the para above.

The sense of impunity that exist even while the UNCHR is ongoing speaks volumes !

Nothing is remained than R2P to be implemented considering all the facts and figures related on these cruel incidents. Rajapakshe is brutal by all means – should be clear to the world. Within the international law, as a country that belongs to IC, lanken nation should be offered their rights. UN should react even more intensive – this man Mahinda Rajapakshe is a deadly virus that harm the innocient nation.

Is this “Rights Now ” another Front funded by the West to destabilize the country?.

What is its connection of it to the UNP Christian Faction, the LTTE proxy TNA Faction and the BASL?.

Because 100 % of their web publications are all negatives about the country.

Foreigners reading them will think that Srilanka is worse than Oubangui Chari….

“Rights Now”, “UNP Christian Faction”, “LTTE proxy TNA Faction”, BASL… ha ha ha did you miss anything?

When you throw around sheit around like this hoping that at least some of might stick it shows your level of desperation.

I actually enjoy enormously seeing you guys sweat like this. That’s the most fun part of the UNHRC season for me.

Looks like the Rajapaksa regime is going full throttle to suppress all information about the Jeayakumari affair. Mr Ruki Fernando has shown courage in going to Kilinochchi and it is a shame that none of the prominent Sinhala opponents of Rajapaksa have come forward to castigate the regime for treating a long suffering and courageous woman in this appealing manner. Rajapaksa is alienating the Tamil people all the time by his actions and this time he probably has lost the support of all the Tamils in Sri Lanka and abroad.

The tightening of rope around Rajapakse regime is tightening and the crimes against humanity and the regime targets turned against human rights activists.

O My God! Fr. Praveen deserves all our prayers as does Ruki. May God grant them the strength and wisdom to answer their tormentors calmly. A couple of years ago a Bishop in Jaffna was hacked with an axe on the forehead and his calves over a mere matter and he was in a coma for many days. Father and Ruki need our prayers as well as the children he looks after.

The ruling clique is paranoid and sees ghosts everywhere. It was Tamils Only earlier – now it is Sinhalese also. This is the classical
case under tyrannical regimes. The end is nigh.

Govt first went after an innocent mother and child only crime being looking for the son she handed over to the military. Now this, the govt and military is going after any one they think has any information on the crimes committed against innocent civilians.

Sad and worrying information. How could the authorities be so foolish? The timing is also atrocious. Are such moves deliberate to teach a lesson to our interlocutors ? Is this government making the hole it is in, bigger?

The arrest of these rights activists comes on the heels of the arrest and detention of Balendra Jeyakumari, a war widow, and her thirteen-year-old daughter Vidushika from Dharmapuram in the Kilinochchi District last evening. Both were arrested on Thursday 13 March 2014. The 13 year old Vidushika attained puppetry only 10 days ago. The TID has accused the mother and the daughter of harbouring one Selvanayagam alias ‘Kobi’ alias ‘Kasiyen’. . This person is not a proclaimed offender so how does the mother and daughter know that he was a wanted person by the police? According to M.A. Sumanthiran, MP Selvanayagam was seen distributing pamphlets asking people to condemn US resolution against Sri Lanka in Geneva. It might be of interest to note there was a build up by the Colombo based media of”LTTE regrouping in the North”. One is forced to suspect that a section of the armed forces is planning a coup de tat against Mahinda Rajapaksa. This conclusion is irresistible since President Mahinda Rajapaksa cannot afford to display open contempt to the UNHCR sessions now in progress in Geneva.

Secretary of offense and TID guys are too busy working overtime these days.
Ms. Jeyakumari and daughter are done with and mow it’s time for Ruki Fernando and Father Praveen. These two are of course anti-lankans, and danger to the society and peace. They should be taught the rule of law and a proper lesson and rehabilitation, Sri Lankan model !

Ruki Fernando is a truly good soul and an honest and decent human being.

Time for the highly compromised Colombo civil society to take a stand and organize a massive protest against intimidation and harassment of TRUE HR activists..

Here is a classic case of FRAMING victims of STATE CRIMES. The impunity of Gotabaya the Goon and his DEEP STATE security apparatus must end. Mahinda Rajapaksa’s military dictatorship must be challenged in Geneva and the Hague.

firstly the NGOs must understand what democracy manes in terms developed countries and third world countries. when the most of the western countries in their early stage never had the democracy, they build the foundation of the economy and made a strong currency in varies ways. some method such as grabbing the resources from the other countries. once those countries after several years of transformation now dictating the terms of democracy to the under power small countries in the world. have Libya, Egypt,Syria or Iraq achieve the democracy so far after millions of death count. millions of refugees , what does the democracy and freedom means in this scenario. the three years suffocation of millions of syrian refugees, is it the democracy or the freedom what these NGOs,human rites activists and the west is trying to achieve. democracy and the freedom has its own borders, it depends on the economic growth rate and the education level of the population the culture and the history. can any one say that China has followed the west type of democracy and achieved the worlds second largest economical state? after been the worlds largest democracy the India still in its emerging state. the rural parts of that country still kills the female babies. where is the freedom and the democracy in such instant has reached. these NGOs should look in activities such as illnesses and poverty, not to interfere with the government affairs to create the unrest, unnecessary civilian death and total destruction of a country and the economy.

It is a shame for the TID /police to have arrested Ms.Jeyakumari and her 13 year old daughter who have been in the forefront in every protest rally seeking information about their son/brother who surrendered to the Government Armed Forces during the last days of the war and Ruki Fernando and Rev.Fr.Praveen, Human Rights Defenders who have gone to Kilinochchi to find out as to what is going on there.Surely with thousands of Army and Police possibly including DIG Kapila Jayasekare of the Trincomalee 5 murder fame the human rights defenders had every reason to be concerned about the safety of those arrested. Ruki does not go to the North only but he goes to any place in the south as well if a situation of human rights violation is reported. It would have been better for hundreds of Army and Police personnel to have worn sarees or skirts and blouse than to have gone in their uniforms to question a 50years old lady and a 13 year old girl, lest they got frightened. What a waste of time and money for the intimidation of these two women or is it to warn others as to what will happen if they opened their mouths. What is there if two citizens of Sri Lanka , a Sinhalese and a Tamil go to Kilinochchi? Ms.Jeyakumari presumably has not even expressed any dissent to which she is perfectly entitled to before her detention order has been signed by an American/Sri Lankan(?) citizen. If he is not a dual citizen that Detention Order will be invalid and null and void in Law.By the way how can the Defence Secretary decide as to who is to be sent for rehabilitation. Should not they be produced before a Court and their guilt proved beyond reasonable doubt before they could be punished in any form by court.Members of Parliament and sons of Ministers are free to brandish fire arms and even kill without being warned or arrested in this country.

What is laughable is that some so called liberals and people for peace and reconciliation are only unhappy that the government should do such unwanted things when a resolution against them is pending before the Human Rights Council in Geneva, as though it would have been perfectly alright if it was another time.
Another matter of curiosity is the gallows coming back and media hype to bring back the implementation of ‘death penalty’. It smacks of an ulterior motive to send some people against the government like the impeachment of the de jure Chief justice.

No better time than this to become a celebrity. Wear a guru shirt and carry a camera and a notebook and go to the north. Tell people you are a human rights activist. You will be detained and questioned by the police. You then get your friends to spread the information on social media and bang!!!……You’ll get your 15 minutes of fame. Your heroism and personal sacrifice will be splashed across the world media and you will be an instant celebrity.

    Kutti Machan

And when your kith and kin are white vanned you would expect/beg these human rights worriers to wear a guru shirt, carry a camera and a note book and armed with a mobile to campaign on behalf of the victims.

In this case victims are your relatives.
