By Colombo Telegraph –
The secretary of the Judicial Services Commission Manjula Tilakaratne has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. He was assaulted by a group of four unidentified men in Mount Lavinia this morning, the according to the Police .
Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem strongly condemned the assault as an act that is likely to trigger far reaching repercussions. Last week Manjula Tillakaratne said “A situation has arisen where there is a danger to the security of all of us and our families beginning from the person holding the highest position in the judicial system,”
“I absolutely reject the malicious and baseless allegations levelled against me and the Judicial Services Commission these days. We see the only reason for this malicious mudslinging campaign was the media statement issued by me on the directions of the Judicial Services Commission,” Manjula Tillakaratne said.
In the Cabinet meeting President Mahinda Rajapaksa had discussed the possibility of initiating disciplinary action against the JSC Secretary over a complaint. Meanwhile President Rajapaksa orders the IGP to take action to bring perpetrators to Justice.

I Condemn the brutal attack on the secretary to the Judicial Services commission for having spoken out and talking on the pressure that is bought on him by the so called powerful people.
Where is this country heading for?
Doesn’t the government want an independent judicial in this country?
This is why all political parties have to get together to protect this country from war mongers and a dictatorial government.
We have seen several countries and governments falling after attacking the judiciary. It’s time for the opposition to immediately get together and demand for the immediate implementation of the judiciary service commission, the police commission and the election commission. This attack has to be condemn by every peace loving citizens of this country.

How long is this bugger MR allowed to kill and assault people who are innimical to him? He is openly violating all norms. Here MR talks about the Secretary JSC at a Cabinet Meeting, wanting to charge him maliciously and the next moment the Sec. JSC is assaulted and hospitalised. I believe MR is stretching his luck a little too far and before long he will meet his waterloo.

People are the problem – they have to realize the gravity of the problem that the entire nation is facing today. Majority folks are mum not reacting accordingly. Whatever he answers – people and the opposition keep quiet.

@Gamini… Welcome to Paradise.
People voted for the Rajapakses and let them enjoy the “Luck” they wanted, and Wished for. People like Malinda, Blacker, Dyan and many others shower praises on them.
Good Luck to them, and the R Bros… might hang on to power for a few more years and ruin the country, more.
University lecturers, students, teachers, doctors, lawyers and now judges are at war with the Rajapakses… Which group is next?
Parasites?

MR giving a sermon in a cabinet where Mervin and the likes of Mervin are also members. Subsequently, JSC secretary has been assaulted by known un-known thugs of Sri Lanka. This is the pattern for past many years and how long will he continue this? The whole Sri Lanka is heading for a disaster and people will suffer without a hope.

it is ironic that even proffesionals in this country leave alone the commmon man are yet to realize and comprehend the gravity and the danger of the current situation. When I discussed the matter with several members of the medical profession they appeared bemused and had accepted this attack it as another every day occurence.God help this country!

Why are we at this point trying to group up ? There is NO WAY you can get all Sri Lankans to join the picketing parade !!!!!
/

Political involvement defenitley.
The absence of an independence judiciary is the main cause for all these.
If this continues there will be no hope and future for Sri Lanka.
/

Very soon the JSC secretary will say that he was not assaulted and in a fit of depression he decided to self harm himself. Also a inquiry will be held as to his conduct and he will be punished for making statements against the regime. He will be also charged for being a peodfile for hanging around St.Thomas college.

Or, in the nature of the new culture, the Judge who appears to have a grouse against Tilakeratne may have given a “Contract” to the underworld to take vaaduva from the JSC Secretary. That is what the judiciary here has now come to – or made to come to. Pick your choice.
