Sirisena Adds Two Cents To UNP-SLFP War Of Words Despite Ranil Calling For Restraint

President Maithripala Sirisena issued a stern warning to unnamed politicians who have attacked him in recent times, stating that they could very well find themselves covered in so much dirt that even seven trips to the laundry might not be enough to get themselves cleaned up.

Maithripala Sirisena

Speaking at a meeting in Nikaweratiya early today (November 24), Sirisena was clearly responding to a barrage of criticism aimed at him over the past few days over moves to postpone local government elections indefinitely.

The aggressive speech by Sirisena comes in the wake of criticism from the UNP and JVP, both parties that supported his election bid in January 2015.

The JVP’s censure was indirect with party leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake blaming the SLFP and in particular Minister Faizer Mustapha for what it called an orchestrated postponement of local government elections.

The UNP’s attack, launched through State Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe, was far more direct.

Senasinghe, himself under a cloud regarding phone conversations with the prime suspect in the Central Bank Bond scam, Arjun Aloysius, accused the President of conspiring against the UNP by extending the life of the Commission of Inquiry. Senasinghe, alluding to Sirisena’s daughter Chathurika Sirisena who runs an advertising agency, asked why there were not presidential commissions to inquire into advertising deals.

President Sirisena, though belligerent, was careful to take issue only with ‘naive, juvenile and ill-advised’ members of both the Government and the Opposition and called on the ‘mature leaders’ to re-focus on the problems faced by the most disadvantaged sections of the population.

Colombo Telegraph learns that many UNP parliamentarians had raised questions with party leader and prime minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, regarding Sirisena’s recent political moves.

Many had pointed out that even though the UNP had been gracious enough to give Sirisena enough time to consolidate himself within his party, the SLFP, the president had responded by conspiring to weaken the UNP. Wickremesinghe, however, told party members to leave him (Sirisena) alone.

UNP must now contemplate in changing their leadership and President is amply restricted in swapping the PM as per the 19th amendment. RW foresaw this as he experienced this in 2004 and was thrown to the doldrums and political wilderness , and luckily proposed curtailments were not codified fully in the amendment otherwise Sirisena would have now become a sinecure . what is more democratic ? President being elected by an island – wide mandate and RW only comes through Colombo central votes. Selecting the president through the parliament has two goals , firstly RW , who has been continuously rejected by the Sinhalese to become president by devious means and secondly to appoint a non-Sinhalese to the Presidency . These are crystal clear violations of the people’s sovereignty .
UNP is not in a position to win a presidential election alone, owing to it’s lameduck leadership . Thankful to the Presidency still country is not led to an anarchy.
a reasonable person can imagine what will happen to the country at this stage in the absence of the post of president . This oligarchic regime has come to a shadow of blemish within a short spam of time. Even the mandate which was rendered to them at the election in 2015 has now become precarious . Despite all that , UNP wants to bring a Constitution . Please do not lead this country towards anarchism and another Batalanda .
Freeze all the assets of the people involved with the bond scam ! UNP could not even pay off the sirikotha electricity bill , but now criticising the president for appointing a commision of inquiry to probe the infamous bond scam. Are these people dead and born ! WE can remember what they preached before 2015. Is this good governance ?
Why Viyangoda and WIjesuriya clan silent over the bond scam issues ? Had Sobhitha thero survived will not he raise his voice against the CBSL robbery ?

          Shebal,

All Paras, Paradeshis, foeigners in the Land of Native Veddah Aethho(Aetto), are illegals, liars, betrayers and traitors.

This is about the shuffling of the musical chairs among the Paras, not the natives, as was the case with Mugabe of Zimbabwe.

All the Paras should get back to their Native HomeLand, Bharat, Damba-Diva, Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Kalinga, South India, Tamil-Nadu, Kerala etc, collectively called Para-Land, Para-Nadu or Para-Desh by the true Natives of the Land.

        Dear Gnana,

It is true that Maithri has disappointed us in certain areas, but we will never have a “perfect politician”.

        *

At this moment we have two issues which dwarf all else:

The first is ensuring that there be just treatment for all citizens of this country.

        *

        The second is Economic Stability.

        *

I know that you feel that Maithri has fallen short on the first. The question is did we ever have a leader who was satisfactory on this score?

As for the second: that is what this current fuss is all about. He has given vent to his fury here. It is a fury that we all feel. You may feel that it is partly a bit of acting, but do you really wish to see the return of MaRa?

Learn about Mugabe first. President Sirisena who has never displayed any similarity to Mugabe will remain in his position unscathed. The majority of Sinhalese will protect the Executive President irrespective of party politics in order to block Ranil taking control of the country.

Champa, you do not seem to understand geopolitics. MS was installed to carry out certain program including keeping MR out. What we see now is that MS has failed to display any leadership qualities and is trying to woo MR thinking that his post is safe if he goes along with MR line. I cannot blame MS as this exalted state came to him by sheer fate rather than his effort. MS has to thank Chandrika for promoting him and RW for standing down to allow him to contest. MS has forgotten all this and is trying to protect his selfish interest. His call for RW to resign is unwarranted and will not be accepted to the major international players. Even China will prefer MR to MS as a trusted companion. Like in Zimbabwe a joint effort of UNP and MR faction will throw MS out if he tries to be funny. You know that both MR and RW have a good working relationship though they appear to do shadow boxing. As long as RW is in power, MR will not be prosecuted and it is the case vice versa. MS should understand this and not play to the gallery.

            Dr. Gnana Sankarlingam
Geopolitics? Is this that what is in your comment? Oh, please give me a break. The most important factor in terms of geopolitics in Asia at the moment is China having an edge over the US. There is uncertainty over everything politics, military exercises, military alliances, economics and trade, in Asia. Sri Lanka is getting too close to US which is foolhardy.
            .
What you said about UNP and MR throwing MS out made me laugh. Man, have you forgotten that MR is an SLFP MP? MS can cancel his SLFP membership for conspiring against the Party Leader and sack him from the party before, he and UNP even think of throwing him out. What can MR do? Nothing. Learn “local-politics” before talking about geopolitics.

      Devaka Jayasuriya,
What is wrong with electing a non-Sinhalese to be President?
Are they not Sri Lankans? If they are not, then give them a separate country.
In my opinion, the President should always be a non-Sinhalese. They have more brains, as clearly demonstrated by your writing.

People elect a Sri Lankan as president, not a Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim or any other. Unfortunately in SL, minority members are still 2 prove beyond doubt that they are genuine Sri Lankans though they utter to be so. There’s a gap between majority & minority & it’s widening.

One day when there has been a genuine Sri Lankan non-Sinhalese as the presidential candidate majority will undoubtedly consider his candidature.

I kindly request you to get rid of your blind belief that they are more intelligent than majority community.

Your attempt to measure intelligence through a writing reflects your silliness.

Take it that the president must be a non-Sinhalese as well as non-Tamil, non-Muslim or non-any other.
Unless you are also to be considered an obstacle for non- Sinhalese Sri Lankan to be the president.

            Uthungan

            Very simple,
Consider the whole island as your country, Don’t think Tamil peoples’ confinement to north & East for long time is reasonable to say it is your traditional homeland. It’s selfish & greedy attitude.

Due to close proximity & same ethnic group you have strong bond with TN.

Make more stronger link & relationship with your fellow Sinhala community instead of hating them.
There’re mistakes & even crimes committed by both , try your best to seek legal solutions from inside. Pardoning will be helpful to both.

There’re extremist type individuals in any community. Make joint effort with moderate Sinhala people to curb them.

        Romali & Rajesh .
Sovereignty is not related to Sinhalese or Tamils , it represents the whole of Citizens of our country. I mentioned sovereignty to point out that President is appointed Island wide mandate and PM is coming from Central Colombo . So Presidential appointment is more constitutional only . Hon. Late Lakshman Kadiragamar PC could have easily become the President of this country but certainly not who professes separatism . While always antagonising the Sinhalese , Tamils are asking for rights ! will it happen ?
Please answer : If the so called ethnic conflict is due to discrimination against the Tamils by successive Governments , Have not some of the grievances of the minorities remedied ? eg Language issue .
Can Tamil Nadu politicians , while sympathising with their ethnic brethren , the Tamils in Sri Lanka , also accept the fact that Sri Lankan Tamils are citizens of Sri Lanka and must resolve their grievances through negotiations with their fellow citizens in Sri Lanka ?
is the minority’s claim to enjoy complete autonomy and self determination in it’s so called traditional home land comprising one third of the land 2/3rds of the coastal side reasonable ?

          Devaka Jayasuriya

I suggest you review and redraft your typing.

By the way Hindians caught JR by his balls, got him amend the constitution its cherished Sinhala/Buddhist language policy, the essence majoritarianism from 1956 to 1988, under IPKF occupation while the brave Sinhala/Buddhist majoritarian armed forces were hiding behind their women folks, mostly behind VP’s bum.

Could you let us have a detailed disposition of sovereignty. If you have no idea what it is, then forget it.

If you are not happy with 1/3 rd of the land and 2/3rd of the coast please let Sampandan knows what % would make reasonable?
          Please chose one from below:

          Land 30% and Coast 60%,
          Land 25% and Coast 55%,
          Land 20% and Coast 50%,
          Land 15% and Coast 45%,
          Land 10% and Coast 40%
          Land 05% and Coast 35%
          Land 50% and Coast 50%
Let see if Sambandan buys your choice.

Tamil Nadu is your ancestral homeland. You should go back to Tamil Nadu and start measuring the coast and the area it covers. If you cannot peacefully live among the people leave the island.

Don’t you think you have a problem, a big one, and its you incidentally.

Devaka – “appointing a non Sinhalese to presidency… is a crystal clear violation of people’s sovereignty. “
You are of course referring to the sovereignty of the Sinhala people and imply that the sovereignty of the non Sinhala people is immaterial. This is the reason that gave birth to LTTE. will their be a need for another arm struggle to safeguard the sovereignty of the non Sinhala people. And this time will all the non Sinhala people join hands ? what a disastrous prospect for the Sinhala people. They never learn and are sitting on the laurels and basking in the glory of defeat of the LTTE by the international community.

Sirisena must Impeach Bond scam Ranil Wickramasinghe who is destroying the economy of Sri Lanka and selling off strategic assets to pay off Debt caused by Bond scam and Chinese loans to Mahinda Jarapassa’s family.
Ranil is not fit to be in fharge of Economic Policy of Sri Lanka. BOI and Ministry of Enterprise development is also operated by a crony network just like the Bond scam was operated by Ranil;s crony network of Mahendran, Alosysius , EPF traders all in a ring.

Ranil is a clear and present danger to the Lanka and the health of the national economy, as he is now selling of strategic assets to dodgy US hedge funds.

      Devaka Jayasuriya
Your comment is a real eye-opener.
      .
I fully support this part of your comment: “Selecting the President through the Parliament has two goals.” It is pretty obvious that Ranil was contemplating to elect a Tamil President through the Parliament, presumably in 2020, along with him/after him, in line with his deal with the West, LTTE diaspora, TNA and India, which is the most treacherous part of the Federal Constitution. This is the main reason to protect the Executive Presidency elected by voters.
Other than unscrupulous means, betraying and infringing voting rights of Sinhalese, there is no other way for a separatist, racist Tamil minority comprised only 11% of the population be elected as the President. Ranil is hell bent on blocking all other political parties and form a future UNP/TNA Troika: Tamil President, UNP Executive PM and a UNP/TNA unity government. Even if the federal constitution is failed, he might try to make these changes through an Amendment which should be defeated at all cost.
JOkers, who took part in Ranil’s Constitutional Assembly, was too immature to see the danger coming. People should let them go at the next election and vote for new leaders.

“Eye-opener” is an idiom. The point I talked about in Devaka’s comment could make people realize something they didn’t pay attention before, or were not aware. To elaborate further, Ranil misdirected opposition politicians and Maha Sangha with two words”Unitary” and “(the place for) Buddhism.” They all swallowed Ranil’s bait and didn’t pay attention to other disastrous proposals undermining people’s sovereignty such as the proposal to elect the President through the Parliament. Devaka’s comment is an eye opener for such people.

Didn’t it is attributed as Gandhi’s say that “If there are only two choices, violence and cowardice, my choice is violence”. Then, how can one blame SJV arriving to Vattukottai Convention?

You first thought the carnage was in a Mosque of Lankawe and felt happy. But when you heard it was only in Egypt, you sound like you are disappointed. SJV never challenged to make blood river to flow in Lankawe, like the one Egypt. He wanted God to save the Tamils. Please don’t be an insult to his name. You better call yourself Hizbullah, Ranil, New King Old King….DS, JR, Thero De Silva, Sirimavo, SWRD… lot lots of names are there! Even you can call yourself as SJ or Stalin. LAJJA BAYA NETHI PM can talk leadership style words, because he is proven, irrespective of he personally got some money or not, a leader of white collar thieves. He escaped severe stinking because he did not step down from his position and made AG obliged to him. AG did not find any incriminating evidence from Ranil’s emails, phone, or office documents. All because Ranil used his position to escape any questioning. sujeewa Wijesinghe and many more there should go too.
President is not acting like a leader. He is just talking. President has baggage too. But, this central bank problem is first. because if the Rupee crashes, including the Land reform act which already in action Sri lanka is in place to be bought by some western businesses. After that it is there lands, they can bring any ships, planes and anything they want.
President has complains against him. He said 50% of the deals are corruptions. He kept quiet, Agriculture minister wasting money on a building rented to be occupied wasting money on that, Advertisinn deal of Rs 600 million and three billion worth Radio/TV frequency selling are those. PRESIDENT SHOULD ACT LIKE A LEADER AND NOT JUST PLAYING GAMES WITH OTHERS FOOLING VOTERS. HE SHOULD FIRE rANIL IF HE IS NOT QUITTING.
LAjja baya nethi – Ranil goes to Dalada Maligawa and promise something then goes to the Mosque and promise another. In India he was pleading to the Siva Lingam and outside he had said we did dnot hide anything. the reason, was he had said only what was eexposed by others.

Super talk! There is no reason to put up with them. Even UNP partymen can’t stand their own rogue politicians now.
There are serious flaws in the Boundary Delimitation Report which I believe had initiated in 2015, which could have been avoided if there had been a proper public consultation process prior to its finalization. Knowing Ranil’s dirty tricks, nobody can rule out gerrymandering in favour of the UNP and electoral manipulation in favour of Tamil, Indian Tamil and Muslim minorities.
Serasinghe deserves the Foot in the Mouth Award. He should explain as to why he kept his phone conversations with Aloysius a secret until the Commission found out from the call list of Aloysius. His integrity as a Member of the COPE is in jeopardy.
The ball is in President’s court now. He should seriously think of sapping the UNP in mini-Chandrika style.

    • 6
      2

      Champa,

Per the 19th amendment to the constitution which came into effect in 2015, the President cannot remove the Prime minister for 4 1/2 years. Ranil made sure that there was no Chandrika style firing opportunity when it was enacted.

So, we Sri Lankans are not as fortunate this time around. The only way this can happen is if the SLFP pulls out of the coalition and the UNP cannot form a government on their own. This cannot be ruled out also because the UNP can enlist the TNA to form a majority. If the UNP(or the SLFP for that matter, with the help of the TNA)cannot form a government, then fresh elections will have to called.

      • 4
        3

The most deplorable part is even at a situation which becomes worse if parliament being hung , president can not dissolve it and resort to fresh elections . This is the repercussion of the 19th amendment . Do or die system – hasty amendments and drafts will result in such deadlock situations . So until the 4 1/2 years succeed ,they will throw the ball at each other . the proposed constitutional draft was also brought in a do or die system without proper consensus . Therefore there are apparently lot of loopholes as Victor Ivan has already pointed out . RW acts totally ultravires of his mandate and brings ECTA and a new constitution . When voting for Sirisena we never aspired ECTA and this draft constitutional proposals of such nature. Nothern politicians are already professing separatism by vilifying the national flag which is a cause of action under the sixth amendment . but no action is being taken . so it will be a precedent . Ranil will be loosing his teeth and bite soon for betraying the masses . TNA’s opposition leadership is another joke. Sambanthan votes in favour of every anti public bill with the government .

        Rajiv
You are wrong. 19A has only barred President from dissolving the Parliament. He can remove the PM anytime. I’ll explain.
        .
Among many drafts which were brought to perplex the Opposition (then SLFP/UPFA), we should focus on the final 19A. Interestingly, Ranil had to prune many proposals to avoid a Referendum.
        .
Ranil couldn’t make the PM the Head of the Cabinet or make the President act on the advice of the PM through 19A, as it required a Referendum. Meaning, his proposal remains only as a concept without enactment.
        .
The President is still the Head of the Executive, Head of the State, Head of the Hybrid Government and Head of the Cabinet. Ranil has no legal power even after the 19A, as it is clear that a Referendum is necessary to confer such powers to the PM. President can consult the PM, if necessary, but it’s not a requirement. He can use his discretion/power to appoint/dismiss the PM or any Ministers and change their portfolios without Ranil’s approval. If Ranil has any say, it is because of the SLFP-UNP Hybrid government.
        .
Reducing number of Ministers to 30 is a hoodwink as there is room to increase the number by way of an Act, provided that the government is hybrid, formed by two main parties. I must stress this point, according to 19A, a hybrid government can be formed ONLY with TWO largest parties. It cannot be formed with three/four parties. Contrary to what you say, UNP cannot form a government with TNA, as it is NOT the second biggest party. (Wimal/Dinesh/Vasu/Udaya, please be aware, even if the current talks between SLFP/JO succeeded, other constituent parties of the UPFA, other than SLFP, are not in a position be part of a government.)

          1

          Champawati,

You may have some points. But not every one of them is right. If the 1st and 2nd parties have to be in the national Unity government, Yahapalanaya already has lost National Unity status. It has to cut down the ministers. You know SLFP total is far below to Joint Comedy Club. But practically Joint Comedy club could not even unseat Sampanthan Aiya. Before Sampanthar Aiya was seated, Joint Comedy protested for long time that they have to have the OPL title. But he could not. Why didn’t they even go to court and have their 2nd in total number made accepted? Because, I do not think the 19A is talking about 1st and 2nd parties as the requirement for the national Unity. Say for a talk that the 1st party 75 and 2nd party 35 seats; in that case, they cannot even form a government, leave alone the National Unity government and above 100 ministers.

Joint Comedy begged for long time Karu to give them that position, but he kept kicking them on the butt. Seeing it did not go anywhere, now they are trying to blackmail New King. New King can fire Yahapalanaya government after the 2nd year of its start. But he is not getting anything as if he make Old King PM, UNP will oust out that government with No confidence on the very first sitting.

We will see if the Joint Comedy can turn any stone before the 2019 election. One thing is certain. The same moment New King fires Ranil, he is willingly falling into his last pit and never will be able to get up and walk out. Without UNP he will never become EP anymore. His only option is taking UNP’s offer to stay in power until 2025. Convulsing for anything else is writing his own eulogy.

            Mallaiyuran

You say, “…Because. I do not think the 19A is talking about 1st and 2nd parties as the requirement for the national unity….”
Buddy, what you think is not relevant. What is relevant is the actual facts. Only the 1st and the 2nd Parties can form a unity government as per 19A. Ranil is caught in his own trap!!!
As I said a few days ago, the President and the PM both have no other choice other than staying in the unity government, as neither SLFP nor UNP have 2/3 majority as a single party. They both are caught in their own trap. However, the President as the Executive has more powers over the PM/UNP/Cabinet/ Parliament. He can appoint someone else as the PM. Even then 19A doesn’t allow Ranil to form a government with the 3rd largest party.
Your example of 1st party having 75 and the 2nd party having 35 is not practical. Who will be the rest? Do you think JVP/TNA/Muslim parties altogether can have 115 seats. Be realistic.
President is no fool to accept the proposal to be elected from the Parliament. UNP has brought that proposal to elect Ranil as he can never be elected directly through people’s votes. The moment that proposal is enacted, UNP/TNA/JVP will vote out the current President and elect Ranil as the new President.

Tell us given that RW woudl have been sacked, but who would be the next in the bunch to succeed him ?
No body, relatively, RW is the only leader with skills and political knowledge to lead the nation.
On the virulent SLFP bunch, there is no one to contend him.
Rajapakshe s should have long beeen jailed, if Mr Sirisena, used his exectutive powers, but he thought party should be placed before the nation:
          That was the mistake here.
We perfectly knew that Mr Sirisena has been somewhat supportive to their fractions than anything else, but forgetting all the pledges made to the nation before coming to power.
And the fact, that his reactions sent that powerful FCID head iron lady home was a great mistake.
But media did not bring a truth story about that.
Then again, today, Sirras has been given more authority to criticise only UNP.
But nothign about FORMER high criminals, that even took the lives like Thadjudeen or the like inncient citizens of this lost island.
All in all, JVP was also not fine, they have always been against UNP …
All in all, lanken polics of the champawathies dominated nation is lost by date.

Hoooooo, “RW is the only leader with skills and political knowledge to lead the nation.”. Hooooo again.
Ranil has no leadership qualities at all. Besides, how could the mastermind of the CB Bond Scam lead a nation? He is only fit to lead the rogue birds of a feather in UNP. As Devaka says, RW is an MP who only came through Colombo Central votes. He never contested for Presidency.
You think Ranil is the man, as the Sri Lankan political culture has never given opportunity for other people to rise as leaders. The reason is, this country was governed by a selected small group of politicians who thought that they were leaders. After 7 decades of failures in leadership, 2019/2020 is the best time for real leaders to emerge and show their skills by turning the country to the right direction. Anybody can lead the country the way it is. The real leadership is
telling people “let’s go” and take them where they ought to be.
What our country seriously in need of, is a leader “who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way” (copied from Maxwell).

Yahapalana honeymoon (living together?) is over. ‘The couple’ is at each other’s throat with numerous fights and disagreements day by day; disgruntled elder siblings sling mud at each other and are even ready to expel some from the family. Younger ones including the newborn (the poor general public in SL) are crying, weeping, and suffering with no solution in the foreseeable future!!
This is called the Yahapalana family, the artificial ‘exemplary’ family that we introduced to Sri Lanka with assistance from the so-called international community and India’s RAW!
What a joke!! What a tragic situation!!!

It is truly sad that the so-called learned people in this Nation are least concerned about the sorry fate of their motherland. For 70 long years mother Lanka is being raped by the politico cheats belong to all political parties, with no regard or respect to the Rule of Law.

President Sirisena and Ranil W both know that they have failed the expectations of the people who elected them to office to restore the Rule of Law. They soon became blind with power and conveniently forgotten their National duty and simply continued from where Rajapakse clan stopped. And now the Nation is being robbed in unimaginable scale and according to the Auditor General the losses incurred by the Bond Scam over a period of time (including Rajapakse era) is over Trillions of rupees. These cheats have binned the National Audit Bill that they had promissed to introduce within 100 days in power.

In the meanwhile the role played by the JVP is disgusting. The party talked about morality in politics simply claimed the additional Rs 100,000/- monthly allowance given to MPs. Did nothing to stop issuance of tax-free car permits to MP which they sold in the open market robbing over 7 billions of government tax revenue. Now the JPV blames President Sirisena for postponing the local council elections.

But the concerned citizens know the dirtiest game played by the JVP to postponement of the Provincial Council election completely disregarding the Supreme Court determination that ruled against government’s move to postpone the elections. The court in very clear terms ruled that the government has no right to deny people’s franchise, one of the sovereign rights and a fundamental right, the people’s freedom of expression.

(part 2) The Yahapalana Group refuse to accept the Court Order and determined to postpone the elections and they achieved their objective with a committee stage amendment brought in to provincial council elections Bill, leaving no room for the concerned citizens to challenge it (Committee Stage means after the expiry of one week’s time afforded to the people to challenge a Bill placed in the Order paper of the Parliament – Article 121 of the Constitution).

The JPV that talks about the rule of law and respect to the Constitution simply violated its principle and supported the move to pass the Bill unlawfully with the connivance of the Attorney General Janasuriya to postpone the Provincial Council Elections.

This is a day light robbery of people’s sovereignty, which has now become not worth the paper on which it is enshrined, the Constitution. The crime committed against the Nation and the way they undermined of the Judiciary that enforces the people’s judicial power clearly established that Sri Lanka is unpardonable. The said crime reestablished that Sri Lanka is no more a democracy but a failed state where only jungle law prevails.

In these circumstances there is a huge National duty vested in the people who understand things better. The need of the hour is to CHANGE the attitude of the so-called learned people. It is they who should take the challenge to with a clear determination to send all criminal elements in politics to the place that they deserve most.

The true sons of mother Lanka shall be prepared to sacrifice their time and energy for the purpose before it is too late.

The true sons of mother Lanka shall be prepared to sacrifice their time and energy for the purpose before it is too late.”

Sorry guys, excuse me when this Moda minded Mallaiyuran trying to understand this. “After almost a 90 years of his arrival, The so called learned Nagnanda is calling the British lords of Donoughmore and Soulbury be arrested under PTA and put in without inquiry for 25 years for having recommended the Universal Franchise for Lankawe. Then Sir Pon Brothers has to be resuscitated and brought to parliament again for having rightly forecasted for how Lankawe going to look like when the garland fall into the hand of the Monkey.

the so-called learned people May I ask a question? Please don’t feel irritated or insulted! After last twos named Laksiri and Nagananda, the two Smart Patriotic Sinhala Intellectuals, and one left Australia and one left to Britain, iIs there anything is left in the Land Called SinhaLE Wildlife Sanctuary -Lankawe as such “the learned”. If so where were they hiding when UNHRC called to send all criminal elements in politics to the place that they deserve most? ? It appears that our first challenge is bringing these two back to Mother Lankawe, drain out the left in them to copy white lefts and refill with a pint of SinahaLE and make them true sons of Mother Lankawe instead of runaways to Sudha, the Occupiers lands of comforts.

    • 2
      1

(The special task of finding them and bringing them back to Lankawe Maathaa is the job of Softy and transfusing SinhaLE from Wimal to them is the job of Champawati)

Once they become the true sons of Mother Lankawe, then they all can catch the tail of Vasu, Dinesh, DEW, Tissa, Wimal or any other Pakaya’s tails of one another and parade circles in the parliament, chatting “Leninism Sharanam Gachami, Socialim Sharanam Gachami, Moscow Sharanam Gachami”

These Karl Marx time outdated stuffs, hated with full heart the 22nd century intellectuals who predicted what the universal franchise going to do the Ceylon saying as “Sudha Worshipers” and trying to wake from the Slumber they are having in lands of Sudha where Sudhas have built democracy for their people to thinks and act. Even this wake up is only because the jealous feeling on the Sudhas’ land not by the attachment of the SinhaLE.
These Sinhala Intellectuals can regroup with honesty filled in their heart, but will the Sinhala Buddhists believe these Sinhala Intellectuals?
First they came for Indian Coolies; I did not speak out,
Because, I am not a coolie.
Then they came for North-East Kallaththonies; I did not speak out,
Because I am not a Kallaththony.
Then they came for the Kaaththankudy Kalu thambiya; I did not speak out,
Because I am not a Kalu Thambiya.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

In the past two decades the UNP has gone down from a block vote of 45% to about 25%. It has become a conspiracy of a very few to retain power among a small cabal.( it is as absurd as restricted to a Colombo school !) There is no internal democracy in the party. People join the party only to gain small rewards.
The leadership of the UNP has no place and acceptance in Sri Lanka .

RWs defense of the Bond scam in the parliament is a eternal blot on the principle of parliamentary democracy. A criminal conspiracy to rob the country. An abuse of all known ethical principles.

Sirisena has not dirtied his name like this. The UNP is in power today only because of Sirisena. But it maybe that Sirisena will also pay the price for the hatred that RW has created.

Australia is not a colony of Sri Lanka or the Sri Lankan President has no control over their legal system. Therefore, they are free to conduct an investigation on the company involved in the bribery case and prove your point.
However, the allegation is not against the President but his former Coordinating Secretary when he was the Agricultural Minister.

UNP has themselves to blame for this mess. To this day I am totally baffled by PM Mr. RW’s decision to put Ravi-K as the finance minister. Ravi-K has a long history of finance related controversies. Mr. RW might be Mr. Clean but that does not excuse bad decisions especially when it comes to appointing the nations finance minister. UNP should very clearly understand that is was Mr. Sirisena who risked everything when he broke away from MR and ran against MR. If he lost the elections his life and his entire family would have been at risk similar to Sarath Fonseka, but Mr. RW would still be in the opposition enjoying all the perks. ‘Yahapalanaya’ was brought partly to fix the financial mess of the country and not create more headaches. Right now as far as I am concerned, the UNP can go f— itself.

    Blood Is Thicker Than Water
It appears that you have a soft corner and a clandestine love affair with Mahinda. You are blaming Ranil for the slow progress in the indictment of Rajapakse and Co. If you could have appointed a bond commission despite the apparent involvement of Ranil rather quickly, what is preventing you from doing so to Mahinda. After all you are the president- is it because ‘blood is thicker than water’ by being in the same party for a long period.. Ranil’s association with Mahida was an open secret. it is said that Ranil was/is kept by Mahinda?

Mr. President, stop talking to the Gallery. You are just talking only. You are just like “Wada Bari Tarzen” You have already betrayed 62 Laks People who voted for you. You were ungrateful for UNP’ers who sacrificed everything for your election campaign. Your actions should be judged by other people and not by you as you claimed that you are a clean politician. You have clearly shown that you are a coward as you directly ran in the Rajapakha’s hands betraying only 4 people (now only 3) who came with you. It is very clear now that you will betray officers who are handling Rajapaksha crimes to Rajapakshas. Probably you were under the impression that all the SLFP’s will gather around you after you became a President and taking over SLFP chairmanship. But you were wrong, Rajapaksha’s are strong and ruthless with their ill gotten money with the support base that they have. Appointing a Bond commission is correct, but in the meantime you should have appointed commissions for MIG deal, Hedging deal, Greek bond issue and other big cases. Family of Waseem Thajudeen now may be cursing you as they allowed to exhume his death body despite their religious believes. Families of Prageeth Eknaligoda and Lasantha Wickrathunga also cursing you as it is clear that you are protecting killers. You as a clean politician blocked Lankaenews because they criticized your decisions and your Daughter’s business affairs. in the meantime you use Keeli Maharaja’s “Kakkussi kata” to attack UNP. don’t you feel Shame Mr. President? Don’t forget that Rajapaksha gang is ruthless and they will never ever be forgive you. Sarath Fonseka, Shirani Bandaranaya are examples. At the end nobody will be their to protect you. Once Rajapaksha’s get the power you will be first one to go under 6 feet.

Mr. Nagananda: While respecting your efforts in upholding the sanctity of Law and Good Governance (not practiced by the present Govt.) I wish to express my opinion on that court case you refer as regards the postponement of the Local Gov. Elections. Just as much as we have to follow the rulings of Courts, the PEOPLE too have a right to CLAIM justice to suite the social orde to their aspirations. . The election system that was in practice was tainted with malpractices, ranging from high scale corruption to crimes. That system with unsocial “Manapaya Vote” to electing a member not responsible or representing a single ward have to be changed. This promise to change that system was in the Agenda of 100 Day Programme of the January 8th 2015 of the election of President Sirisena listed to be undertaken as of Wednesday January, 28, 2015. The PEOPLE VOTED for it. The fact that it was never undertaken is no matter to go to courts to have an election under a system that has been used and abused undermining the peoples’ aspirations. Towards achieving that desire the elections were postponed, mind you in the best interest of the people and the country. That is a SOCIAL OBLIGATION and a RESPONSIBILITY. The inordinate delay on the part of the Government in bringing in the necessary changes was deplorable and inexcusable. However even after a long delay, the 20th Amendment came and went out again from a ruling of the Courts . Next came another Bill to amend the Law and as per advice of AG (whether it was right or wrong) the Amended Law was passed to get those social demands viz. (1) to do away with Manapaya (a Social Disgrace & a Corruption) (2) One Mebember, elected for one Constituency (3) Proportional Representation on Votes polled and (3) Hold elections in one day in all the Districts. Legality of passing that legislation can be argued for years to come; but the PEOPLE got what they DESIRED and Wanted. That’s the SOCIAL DEMAND and THE NEED. The PEOPLE have WON. So let us move forward.

  • 0
    1

My comment Part II: To begin with I must tell you, I am no “Party Cow”. The PEOPLE got what they desired to CHANGE the SYSTEM with or without the JVP vote. The required 2/3rd Majority was 152 and the JVP 6 votes made it 158. So even without that JVP 6 votes the Amendments were carried and the PEOPLE won. That was my wish too. Having gone through all those hurdles, we are now in another “Court Struggle” that would lead to a postponement of the Local Elections. Here I like to examine the stand taken by the JVP. The JVP “Demands” that this case be “Withdrawn”. Why? How can they “Demand” that? It is a Democratic Right of any citizen to go to courts for redress if he/she is affected. This is a case challenging the validity of the Delimitation Report in respect of 113 constituencies and the relevant Gazette Notice. The claim by JVP that the litigants are political and a conspiracy has no relevancy . They can fight the case in Courts and I think they are doing it through a Lawyer representative. The Gazette Notice is 7 months “OLD”. Din’t the PANDITS in JVP study contents? Din’t the Election Commission study it? Why wasn’t it brought to the notice of the Line Minister? and brought in the required amendments appropriately. Haven’t all the parties who are responsible and accountable FAILED in their duties by the PEOPLE? These are QUESTIONS and ANSWERS that the PEOPLE have to ask and find answers in making a decision before a CHANGE.

PM requests President to be restraint!
    Of what? For what?
    To maintain GG stability?

It’s the PM who failed to be restraint in his actions, people wonder whether had he been with his buddies; planning the biggest ever financial scandal to have taken place in this land even during the time; he with his political buddies shouting on stages to topple previous MR regime.
    Alas!
