Ministers of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will boycott tomorrow’s cabinet meeting, the party’s Central Committee decided last night.

The decision was made in view of the fact that a section of the United National Party (UNP) had demanded their resignation over supporting the no-confidence motion against UNP Leader and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The meeting held at the SLFP headquarters last evening and chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena who is also the Leader of the SLFP was supposed to be about deciding the party’s future in the National Government as well as to decide on the fate of MPs who supported the aforementioned no-confidence motion.
Although the majority supported the proposal of Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa that SLFP ministers should quit the Government, the President had urged that the matter be discussed further.
Accordingly, it was decided that the Central Committee would meet again on Wednesday to decide whether or not to quit the Government.

Direction of the meeting could have been carried away by a few vociferous, errant ministers of the SLFP who were totally rejected by the people of Udunuwara and Badulla at the general election but got entry through the back door and they don’t have a life without ministerial posts. If they had actually wanted their portfolio they should have at least abstained from voting but they voted in favor of the NCM. President bends with the wind. Unfortunately the wind is being generated and directed by Mahinda Rajapakse. Here again its unfortunate that the President is protecting Gotabaya, Basil, Namal, Shiranee and Mahinda Rajapakse being arrested. What we need today in Sri Lanka is a strong President who is not affiliated to any political party. The other issue is also the propaganda machine of the Yahpalana Government is very weak. Yahapalanaya promise was prosecuting the Criminals. They are two types, One is War and Human rights related; other one is dangerous internal types, murder, loot, rape, corruption………. Ranil and New King worked only on one subject. They wanted to have the War Criminals saved. The crimes of internal type, but still related to first type, couldn’t be prosecuted because they are still war hero, the fist type criminals. The pure second type criminals stood along with the coconut thieves, fully open and subjected to the brutality of the law. This was not the situation of the Old Royals’ time. There, all criminal surrendered to Old Royals escaped, other than Thajudeen, Lasantha, Ekneligoda like standoffs. This was very acceptable and thriving environment for ministers of corruption. Instead struggling to suck a drying victim, leach-lets want to return to mother.
Even if SLFP ministers quit, neither Ranil nor New King would declare “one party government”. It is irrelevant of how many MPs in Joint Comedy, as long as it is legally under SLFP. Using this trick, New King will reshuffle the cabinet in the way he wants. He can assign as many appointed ministers he wants, by bending the nominated MPs schedule.
