Sri Lanka State Media Calls Mandela An Appeaser, Rubbishes TRC As A Sham As MR Attends Memorial Service

Amid the Government declaring two days of mourning for South African liberation icon and former President Nelson Mandela and President Mahinda Rajapaksa‘s attendance at the Johannesburg memorial service, the Government controlled press has referred to him as an appeaser of the whites and says the claims have more than a smidgen of truth.

Rajpal Abeynayake

Rajpal Abeynayake

Daily News Editor Rajpal Abeynayake in his editorial on December 9 said some people in South Africa certainly do not entertain the same view about Mandela that most people outside do.

“They feel that he sold out the anti-apartheid cause, and replaced social apartheid with a form of economic apartheid, as he did not agitate for the return of the farms that had been established by whites in land that had been stolen from black South Africans,” the editorial said.

The state media editorial also goes on to say that these claimants also feel that he sold out the blacks as he, through the so called reconciliation process, gave a blanket reprieve for whites to get away with their apartheid era crimes and with the ‘booty’ — the land that they acquired in the process of so called settler-colonization.

“They also say that Mandela probably cut a deal with the white South African apartheid regime, to be gentle with the white South Africans in exchange for their being able to keep the lands, and not having to pay for their crimes,” it read.

“There is no doubt more than a smidgen of truth to some of these allegations. But, the fact remains also that Mr. Mandela perhaps could not have done any better,” the editor says.

Meanwhile in an editorial on December 10, Abeynayake calls the much hailed South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission nothing but a sham to appease White perpetrators of apartheid because they ran the economy. “In South Africa it was the whites they wanted to please, in Sri Lanka it is the diaspora LTTE rump that is targeted for pacification. In South Africa there was good reason to appease the white perpetrators of apartheid; after all they ran the economy and therefore it was a matter of practicality as well. In Sri Lanka with no such considerations can’t we please get past this pantomime of pseudo-reconciliation and get to the task of nation building which had been on inordinate, extended hold?” Abeynayake asks in his December 10 editorial.

Abeynayake said the TRC was a result of Mandela being forced to appease many forces. “The Western led governments no doubt helped him with sanctions against the apartheid regime and obviously those came at a price. In short, at their behest, the ANC leader came up with the TRC as a means of a smooth transition in which there was no damage done to white people’s reputations, or their property or selves,” the editorial reads.

So it was in that sense not ‘truth and reconciliation’ that took place, it was the exact opposite; the papering-over of the truth and pragmatic, almost cynical accommodation, mainly because the loser in the confrontation in South Africa over apartheid, was somehow curiously also the stronger partner in many ways in the South African ‘rainbow’ state that ensued, the Daily News said in its Tuesday editorial.

The state media was only reporting what was already reported in the USA. As much as we abhor state-controlled newspapers we must not produce half-truths to discredit them. If we do, we become just as bad as they are.

Well, well, Mahinda Rajapassa wasted massive funds to shake the whtie man’s hand – Prince Charles’s hand and got shit in his face from Cameron!

Why is Rajapassa the so-called head of a BRITISH COLONIAL RELIC ORGANIZATION called the Commonwealth of Clowns and why did he indebt the people of Lanka to host this colonial outfit? He is a shameless appeaser of the White man and a lying hypocrite!

Mahinda Rajapassa clearly is a VERY CONFUSED individual – he runs behind white man while cursing him and indebting the Hapless people of the country. Rajapassa is a MORON and LYING HYPOCRITE!

Well, well Rajpal the misogynist pervert strikes again! Yes indeed no need for a truth and Rec Commission. We are tired of Rajapassas’ COMMISSION CULTURE – to sweep his corruption and criminality under the carpet..
We need an INTERNATIONAL WAR CRIMES TRIAL OF MAHINDA RAJAPAKSE AND GOTA THE WHITE VAN GOON AT THE HAGUE. They need to be HUNG, DRAWN and QUARTERED for the murder of innocents – including at Rathupasswella.

      Taraki,
State media don’t report what is reported in Channel 4 right? State media is critical about Channel 4 reporting. Now you defend state media just become they echo US news. In essence Sri Lanka state media reports what UPFA want to report. Support Mandela or criticize Mandela.

It’s the (Taraki- odd-toed ungulate!- Turks/Iranian/ Aryan) like the Jews (Bloomberg) applying divide and rule. They are unable to do it with China because the kids are taught about dynasties at school. Presently, Iranian TATA (Pune plant is Indian rope trick) never could do the Jaguar neither can the British so it went to China 50/50- Chinese automaker Chery- Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company Ltd. Before now, see how British investment finds its way into China. In another 4-5 years Jaguar will be 100% Chinese and that’s what they were discussing with Cameron.

Mandela did the right thing for South Africa. Until the local south africans comes up age to manage themselves Mandela kept the white people managed system without breaking them apart and re-inventing the wheel again. This is also what Hong Kong did when they ended british era in 97. Hong Kong like South Africa continue on right economic, development, foriegn policies.

On the contrary Zimbabwe did the opposite of South Africa, Hong Kong and plunged into chaos. Zimbabwe become worse country for people to live.

Definitely there are lessons to learnt to Sri Lanka from Mandela. When British gave the country back our leaders in 1948 it was one of the best countries in Asia ahead of Singapore, Malaysia. Our leaders chauvinistic policies plunged the country into crisis over crisis.

When British gave us the country in 1948, the population of the country was very low. Higher education was denied to majority of the people. Only to the English speaking class, aristocrats until DS started Central Schools and gave few scholarships. People walked 10km to a school or to get a bus.Even suburbs near Colombo did not have electricity. Still Sir John Kothalawala(in 1955) went round the world begging for funds to provide the demands of the increasing population thought only about rice farmers. Country was sending out all the money to import things from the UK and India, especially to cater for those English Educated who did not eat any local fruits but apples from motherland UK. Lots of factories, hydro electric power stations emerged 15 years after independent, poor villages could walk down the streets without having to jump into a ditch when a white man is riding a horse or their boot liking Sinhalese feudalist ride a horse. Tamil plantation workers got citizenship + better schools and health facilities after British left. They all cost money. It is True that there was some waste. India was verse off than Sri Lanka until they spread population around the world and they send money and started industries, all the people lived simple lives, consumed nothing imported for years(especially from England). Sri Lankans rioted when imports were limited. In Zimbabwe although they got freedom Mugabe allowed white people to make profits and send them back to England until the locals who did not have any land started to grab white farmers estates and Mugabe had to support them.South Africa is new and also it was not controlled by British, it was Dutch and all the English speaking countries was behind Mandela. We can talk for hours about ex colonies individually and cannot compare the past. Our parents should have followed Mao(even at the cost to Buddhism)or even Mahatma Gandhi. Few years of suffering to develop the country, now America is borrowing from China, not India or England.

Mandela did the best he could. He must have realised that demanding return of land and accountability would have stopped the West from agreeing to democratic elections.

Mandela was pragmatic. He knew that indigenous Africans were not yet ready to take over the farms established by the Settlers.

It is very unfortunate that, for most of SL people, there is NO value for Quality. When you hear SL debates and comments by community leaders, there are few who talk sensibly, logically and they are comparable to any wise leadership in the current world. But these wise people are not appreciated any more than the most who talk illogical, pure lies, and address the Lowest Common Denominator of Sinhalese(MR is best at it). Even when you buy a shirt in SL, there is no much price difference in a quality shirt and locally designed ones without much quality control….(unless you go to Odell). Anura

Tamils should go to South Africa.

But alas! Tamils have NO dignity.

Tamils love to live when the army abducts them, “tortures” them and engage in sex with them.

Don’t Tamils love such things from handsome boys from the army!!!

Otherwise Tamils would have left SL long ago.

Henceforth you want the law to be changed and treat my people as chattels.

Since the descendants of Kallathonies have control over our flora and fauna they could not even treat as part of the landscape.

We are discussing about my land, not Australia.

`ARYAN`…Who is??Who is?? As a translation of Latin Ariānus for Ariāna (“the eastern part of ancient Persia”), Arian(es) has long been in English use. Aryan is of recent introduction in comparative philology. Swastika was the invert of Sanskrit the Hindu Brahman which Hitler and square heads high jacked. Ladies man Dudley gave citizenship to refugee Iranians for Ox-Ford SWRDBanda to pronounce it.Both S|T kallathonies.

        • 0
          0

Only the name “Swastika” is of Aryan origin, the symbol itself can not be shown to have originated with the Aryans because it was present in the Indian SubContinent (Indus Valley Civ) before the Aryan invaded and colonised the area. The Swastika is an ancient symbol whos origins can not be shown to come from a specific race or ethnic group. It was used by Native Americans before Whites colonised the Americas.

There are a lot of websites claiming to debunk the Aryan Invasion, just as there are a lot of websites claiming that Aliens built ancient civilizations. These websites are created by Hindutva and their fellow Western travellers. — Aryan Invasion theory is the prevalent accepted theory, recent developments simply modified AIT to a nuanced view , one of gradual Aryan migration and colonisation of the SubContinent, whereas in the past people ascribed to a simplistic Blitz Kreig Aryan invasion that killed and drove of the Indegenous people of the Indus Valley (Dravidian ,Austric , Veddah )

No such thing as a Hindus during the Indus Valley Civ era. Hindu is a catch all term that emerged much much later. –Indus-Sarasvati is a term Hindutva / Hindu Revisionists use, and as such it is not accepted in academia. The only place one sees this “Indus-Saravati” term is in Hindutva propahganda sites.–The correct term for the civilization around the river Indus is Indus Valley Civilization or Harappan Civilization.

Mandela is a hero of reconciliation who understood living a life and ruling a country is not about granting all benefits to his family, friends, and race but about harmony, peaceful co-existence and prosperity for all. This idiot wanted him to be a Mugabe, which explains his pathetic view on life. He is more in line with extremism of the apartheids, the LTTE and the Talibans.

      Anu is correct.

Mandela was a Appeaser. That is why Afrikaners won and blacks lost from the reconciliation.

    .
It’s same happening in the North. Settlers are ruling with ‘gun’ power. The settler areas (HSZ) are prohibited areas for the natives. Some day when natives governs, they may allow settlers to stay, same as Mandela did.

Rajpal: What you said ‘some people in South Africa certainly do not entertain the same view about Mandela that most people outside do’ is correct. Your statement also means that majority of the people in South Africa certainly entertain the same view about Nelson Mandela. Is this not Democracy?. Why are you writing editorials based on view of some people in SA?. Are there no views of some in SL on sale/Lease of State land to foreigners/ frauds/ commissions/etc. for you to write editorials.

Of course he did the ‘best that he could’ it would only have prolonged apartheid to have held on to some theoretical ideal. Both Mandela and de Klerk made compromises. The editorial does not seem to suggest appeasement – just some additional insight into how practical considerations led to a solution. Maybe not a flawless solution but a solution nevertheless.

Official communique issued by the rear end of the Chairman CHOG. He is now visiting his like minded colleague in Kenya for advise

    ———————————————————————–
“Five years ago — shortly after the last presidential election, in which Mwai Kibaki won a second and final term in office — bloody clashes erupted between supporters of Odinga, who contested and lost that election, and supporters of Kibaki.

Kenyatta has been accused of inciting some of the ethnically charged violence that killed more than 1,200 people and displaced hundreds of thousands in 2007 and 2008. The International Criminal Court formerly indicted Kenyatta and five others, including Kenyatta’s current Vice President William Ruto, in March of 2011. Since then, long delays have impeded progress and three of the six cases have been dropped.

Kenyatta’s lawyers have been pushing for his case to be dropped as well, though prosecutor Fatou Bensouda does not yet seem inclined to move in that direction.

Kenyatta and Ruto have promised to cooperate with the court, which is based in The Hague. The trial is set to begin on July 9, though it may be postponed. It could go on for years, raising concerns that Kenya’s new president will be forced to spend considerable amounts of time abroad instead of in the capital city of Nairobi.”

    Native Vedda/Sinhala Buddhist hater-Panangkottai,
Have you checked your DNA, to see if there is a bit of Ba[tu]tale in you? Wasn’t Ibs like Agastya that dwarf who went on impregnating all women in Indo-China? Good thing he did not come this way!
Who told you that Cola-Pandya mercenaries stayed back, Indrapala? Is that because two contingents -Velakkarai and Agampodiyars- remained back after the 11th century? And later, some Talawars who came to fight Mukkarus were offered women but which they refused first but accepted and settled down around Negombo.
Did Parakramabahu’s troops also stay back in Pandya-Cola? No. They were sent back suffering Syphilis (Upasagga)? Your elders haven’t told you that, Mr.Panangkottai!

So when there will be an assessment of the Rajapkse regime later on in Sri Lanka’s history, among other things there will be comments on his crusade for uphoding human rights in the late 1980s and the about turn on this issue in the post war era; his promise to implement the 13th amendment then and his reluctance to do so now; and also that widley commented deal with the LTTE in 2004 which was a turning point in the outcome of the presidential election that was held in that year.

Please do not blame him for what he writes as he is still worrying about the wallet that he lost in a B.R.O.T.H.E.L house in Geneva.

It is understood that nobody cares two hoots about Rajpal and his writing in Sri Lanka or overseas. He is a clown. Don’t waste time and energy over him.

The important question is whether President
Percy Mahinda Rajapaksa endorses what the
pea brained idiot has written. Is he of the
same view? Why then did he talk to President
Zuma and ask South Africa to provide the details
of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
    and help him?

THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PEOPLE LIKE YOU(THOSE WHO THINK LIKE YOU) AND NELSON MANDELA.HE HAD NO VENGEANCE IN HIS HEART AS A CHRISTIAN IS TAUGHT NOT TO HAVE HATRED TOWARDS NONE.I AM SURE YOU AND THE LIKES OF YOU WILL NEVER NEVER NEVER UNDERSTAND HIM NOR HIS HEART.

Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the LORD.Romans 12:19

May the Lord bless Selva for his
    prayers, a necessary diversion
from all the serious stuff in
    the Colombo Telegraph.

    Instead of psycho analysing
    others, Selva keep on praying
    that God will change
them. Then the world will be such
a wonderful place to live. And
people like you might lose an
    important job – preaching, preaching
    and poaching!!!

First time I saw a picture of the man. He is so “blek”, that he must be a Tamil or an African. Otherwise, he could not be having such bad thoughts, when his master is away attending the memorial function for Mandela. Why cannot he let his master try to get away with it by holding a truth and reconciliation commission? No wonder the man has to wear slippers. The master will now take away his clothes too when he hears what he has written. He has made the Daily News into a toilet paper that provides daily justification for the activities of a mob that steals from the people. He can hardly show such moral outrage. Better ask Zuma, the other kleptocrat, to teach Rajapakse how to rip off what is left in the country.

I fully agree with Rajpal. He makes PERFECT SENSE and should be applauded for standing up for whats right despite working in the State owned Newspaper.
The South African TRC was a sham and i agree with Rajpal. It allowed all past crimes to be swept under the carpet. There was no accountability. There was amnesty for all past crimes in that Commission. So Rajpal is RIGHT. There should be ACCOUNTABILTY and NO Amnesty. WELL DONE RAJPAL
I COULDNT AGREE MORE with you on this

Well all stories about leaders have the right side and the wrong side. But the undisputed fact is that the right side is far overwhelming and praiseworthy if it heals the wounds and make all concerned happy. The whole world will praise him for his far reaching decisions. That is the lEADER who will be living among all beings for ever. If he was wrong at some point no doubt he will be forgiven.

The rural tradition in Sri Lanka was reading “Pin Potha” (record of good deeds)during the night vigil before the funeral.
